Stumbled upon this cute bakery on a Saturday morning... we walked into a long line of locals, which always is a good sign! They have a specialty, their glazed, filled croissants! A sweet employee behind the counter asked us if it was our first time, we said yes and she gave us samples! They were absolutely delicious and we ordered a dozen croissants and a gluten free dessert. Good selection of GF items. The fillings we tried were strawberry, raspberry, Bavarian cream, plain, cream cheese, cinnamon sugar.. they were all delicious! My first time at Burney's was 3 years ago while on holiday and our amazing hosts brought us to this amazing little shop. They are locals and locals know the worth while places. I was still eating like a piggly wiggly hoggly woggly back then. I can't recall how many of the glazed croissants I had back but it was an embarrassing number. They are like Oreo cookies - you just can't stop at one. The prices are more than reasonable - they are practically giving the delicious treats away. If you're limiting yourself to one treat the butter cream glazed croissant is the winner and as a second choice the chocolate glazed croissant. I can't wait to visit again. read more

Yum!!! This is a special bakery- with everything you could hope for! They have something for every type of sweet tooth (including ice cream in a cup or cone)! The mini glazed croissants are the perfect size, and filled with yummy bonuses! I am a Britt's Donut junky, and the sweet and simple glaze on the flaky croissant reminded me of their amazing specialty. :) I never thought I'd fine anything comparable! Burney's Bakery I noticed this new bakery in Southport and thought I would try it since none of the bakeries in this area make a good crusty fresh bread. Most of the breads are very doughy and soft, not my kind of bread. Well, make one exception, Publix. They have a few breads that are OK. Anyway, back to Burney's. I went there to order hard rolls. The person at the counter looked very confused and ask 'hard holes?'. I said no, hard rolls. She look more confused, repeating hard rolls!?!? I said yes, hard rolls, round sized bread for sandwiches. Her confused response was 'we don't make that here. I had to laugh, what bakery doesn't know about hard rolls, and, don't make them. It was a confusing and entertains moment. Maybe one day, I'll get this place another try, LOL, funny experience. read more

This place was amazing! We weren't planning on getting pastries but while out shopping we kept noticing a wonderful aroma that we tracked down to here. The four of us got an assortment of filled croissants and desserts. My favorite was the pumpkin cheesecake filling but I also really liked the chocolate as well. Their tiramisu was delicious and while not everyone enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter dessert, I thought it was awesome. Definitely going to make this part of our Southport tradition! read more

The best macarons anywhere (I'm from NY and have enjoyed my fair share throughout the city so I feel like I'm a good judge). They have a wide variety of filled crossiants (smaller and more danish-shaped than traditional) which are delicious, but the small, almost hidden selection of macarons have that perfect blend of wafer-crisp exterior and chewy interior while feeling impossibly light and yet decadent at the same time. Not too much filling, which is often the downfall of an otherwise good macaron. Try the strawberry, coconut, and/or red velvet if you're lucky enough to get some before they sell out. read more

Stopped by Burneys to satisfy my sweet tooth. I couldn't decide so I got a few items including blueberry cheesecake ice cream. The ice cream is one of the best in town, full of flavor and had real pieces of cheesecake mixed in. I also had a lemon orange cake which was very light and full of zest. One of my favorites was the sweet potato maple cheesecake that tasted like a holiday cake...definitely not a typical summer dessert but tasty nonetheless. I tried the peanut butter chocolate cake which was ok. Lastly I had a famous honey glaze croissant, what they are known for, with mango filling. I liked the mango as it added a nice fruity tanginess that cut through all the sugar. Overall probably the best place in Southport for pastries and ice cream. While I will say they were delicious (c'mon it's a fried croissant!), I have to say they were not unique or spectacular (it's filled fried dough). The kids enjoyed the ice cream (no chocolate based flavors???). They had a decent selection of pastries still, near closing time. I love LOVE LOVE this place. Delicious! This place is seriously dangerous, you could just keep eating the glazed croissants! There are so many flavor options, chocolate was a definite favorite. I ended up taking some home on my way back to MD. My husband enjoyed the bavarian creme long john and the brownie was delicious too. I plan on making this a go to place when I visit the area.
