Fast and super friendly service. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito and a carnitas taco. The star of the show was their green salsa. The beans were perfect consistency but needed salt. But the green salsa made it delicious. The carnitas were a little in the dry suffer and also needed salt. Those items and a large diet was under 14 dollars. Happy with that. The food was 3 stars. They've been making burritos here since 1978, and I've been coming since 1998. I rarely think of posting a review of places I've been going to for years. It's hard to review a burrito. They are the least photogenic food group out there. I have a photo of a naked burrito below and it's not pretty like the food art at fancier places. But you can't judge a book by its cover. I always get the JVC no meat. It's like a bean burrito with a salad thrown inside. it's stuffed with so much goodness they wrap it in two tortillas. I like the salsa tubs they include with your order. They add a nice kick. The menu board is stuck on 1996 with references most folk under 40 years won't get such as the Ito burrito from the famous trial of 1995. And then there is the Ross Perot burrito (presidential candidate in 1992 and 96). The new owners (since 2008) say they won't change a thing - no need to mess with success. read more

I wanted a straightforward, simple burrito and found this place. I called in the order and it was easy. The location is easy to find and though there are a couple parking spots, there's plenty of street parking. I got the JVC with chicken, and I loved everything about it. I do wish there was an option to get everything without the double tortilla because it was just excessive for me and I ended up eating the insides more, but it was still great. It had meat, rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and guac which is everything I want in a burrito. Most important to me is the rice because I'm Asian and it's my base for everything and theirs was really good! The filling was generous especially for the price. My husband got Vic's Special which is basically a wet burrito, and he was impressed. This is definitely more of my place because I don't even have to ask to take out onions/cilantro but he seemed to still enjoy. I'll definitely come back when I want a burrito. read more

One of the hidden gems of Pasadena, Burrito Express has been one of my go-to places for decades. The staff is always friendly and glad to see you. While the inside dining area is small and cozy, there are many tables outside. As for the food, the JVC Spicy Beef Dinner plate is easily two meals, and is the item I have consistently ordered the longest. This is normally prepared and ready to eat but I've actually worked with the staff to turn this into a "to-go for later" item with the green salsa and cheese on the side. Doing it this way does require some assembly but it tastes just as good. I do this to enjoy a JVC later because my current favorite item is the Deluxe Nachos with carnitas and spicy green salsa. Ordered chicken taquitos and an asada combo burrito. Price was very reasonable. As for the food, I'd say it was below average. The taquitos were ok, although they weren't as crispy as I'd liked them to be. The burrito just wasn't good. The asada looked overcooked, some of it burned, and it was not very flavorful. It also had a weird, sort of crispy-hard texture. I suspect it wasn't cooked to order and probably was sitting in a container and then reheated. Aside from the price, the only thing I'd say was good is the sauce. I really hope they improve as it's in a convenient location and the folks who work there seem nice. But there are too many competing burrito spots within a 5 mile radius and I'll probably check them out instead. read more

I arrived just 10 minutes after calling in and the order was ready to go. I had the Ross Perot Burrito. It is a hefty burrito. Lots of Chicken, Beef, Pork, Rice, Beans, Sour Cream, Cheese and Guac. It is loaded! It is more than a meal! However, we also decided to share the Carne Asada Fries tonight. The fries were also good; however, I am still partial to Connal's fries. (down the street). Was craving some Mexican food. This is not the place to go. Tiny place on the corner. We ordered chicken taquitos, carne asada fries, carnitas tacos, and JVM burrito. The best thing out of all of that was the carne asada fries, the meat had some flavor. The guacamole was watered down and you could barely taste whatever else was on there. A good decade ago (we are that old), a few friends and I set out on a mission to find the best breakfast burrito in the greater Los Angeles area. A friend and I agreed that nothing shows someone you care about them quite like a breakfast burrito delivery, and this food item combines two of what are arguably the world's most perfect food groups.... The excellence and universal love of breakfast food with the functionality and versatility of a burrito. Due to time constraints and health considerations, it has been quite some time since I've posted one. Last weekend, my boyfriend had to work until the early hours of the morning and I had the opportunity to be expressive in the language I understand best.... A breakfast burrito delivery. Yelp research led me to try Burrito Express, which is close to me and a place I've never tried, and apparently has rolled and served burritos for over 30 years. It's a pretty noticeable shack on a corner of Washington Blvd, with a few parking spaces on either side. Yelp reviews raved about how friendly the staff is, and maybe I caught someone different or someone who wasn't having a good morning. He was okay, but didn't offer recommendations or seem very welcoming when I told him this was my first visit. I went with two burritos - eggs, cheese, salsa, hash browns and bacon, and another one subbing the bacon for carne asada. Also added a side of guac, sour cream, and one of each salsa. The burritos were ready in 10 minutes and I was on my way! The verdict - I had a few bites of the bacon burrito. The guys appreciated the delivery, but to me, the burritos were noticeably dry. The hash browns were dry, and there wasn't enough salsa and cheese to balance it out. The egg was fried and placed first in the tortilla so that it wrapped around the edges of the burrito and wasn't present in every bite. The bacon also wasn't as prominent as it should have been. Although I expected this, the guac was mostly avocado sauce, without as much texture or flavor as guacamole should have. Also, the burritos weren't labeled..... fortunately, the guys I delivered them to were willing to leave it up to the universe and choose asada or bacon at random. Maybe breakfast isn't their strength, despite having "Burrito" in the business name, but this BB is not the holy grail. read more

Best food in town. They are closed Sundays, so you can only eat their burritos, tacos, tostadas and enchiladas 6 days a week. Which is not enough days. My daughter and I go regularly for lunch dates, my husband and son pick up dinner for us together and usually come home with stickers and a bigger cup of Orange Bang than I can get anywhere else. The food is delicious and a bargain. I get the JVC burrito and have two meals in one. Everything on the menu is tasty, and the salsa is delicious. 3. All of the people who work here are kind, hardworking, lovely people. They honestly make my day when I go; I always feel a little extra bounce in my step after interacting with them.
