Burrito Con Todo (Birria, Frijoles, and Queso)

Really good burritos that remind me like they are straight from grandma's house! We tried them all and my favorite one was the deshebrada, something about those green chilies send it over the top. Add the beans and cheese! I just wish they were filled more with the yumminess! Service was quick! You can order them to go or eat them there they have a few tables outside with a shade canopy.

It's been a number of years since I've had Burritos La Palma after Jonathan Gold (LA Times Food critic) raved about these mini burritos. This location is in Boyle Heights, just on the other side of the LA River and not too far from DtLA. Burritos are snack size. So, you'll need a few to make it a meal. Order the 3-burrito combo for under $15. What's I like here are the flour tortillas. It's not too thin or too thick and has a nice chew to it. They're hand made here and grilled with your choice of guisado. I ordered the birria de res (spiced shredded beef), deshebrada (shredded beef with green chili and potato) and frijoles y queso. All were really tasty. Salsa here is refreshing but not too spicy so you'll need to take a bite out of that fresh jalapeno they compliment. Service here is quick and really friendly. Located a block away from Ramirez Liquor, grab a bottle of tequila on the way back. Great to see them expand without discounting quality and flavor. Getting street cred on the Michelin Bib Gourmand List says a lot. I do think a few other restaurants in this area deserve some credit as well.

All that was left of my bean and cheese burritos but the packaging is nice Frijoles y Queso Burrito

I was born and raised on bean and cheese burritos. Legend has it, my mom stared craving them when she was pregnant with me. Needless to say, I love a good b&c or f&q. They are my favorite food, my comfort food and in my opinion the best ones are usually homemade. But the frijol y queso burritos they have here are better than homemade! If I could eat them everyday I would. I've only ever had them to-go but they are always quick and efficient.

The tortillas here are insaneeee. I could honestly just eat those lol. Order outside at a window, grab and go. I think I remember seeing tables outside to eat but it was so hot that day I honestly forgot. Only reason this isn't a 5 star is because it's overpriced for what you get imo. The burritos are the size of flautas and I wish there was a little more filling inside. BUT other than that they're bomb af and yes I'll still come back regardless of the price lol. Bean and cheese- so good I could eat 10 of these Birria con todo- 10/10 Chicken tinga- not my fave but my girlfriend loved it

This was my first time trying this burrito spot, and I can say they didn't disappoint. I ordered the Platillo Especial, which includes two small burritos with birria, topped with green chile pork sauce and cheese, served with refried beans on the side. Though the burritos were on the smaller side, their flavor was fantastic. The green chile sauce was a great complement. The staff were very friendly. Since there was no indoor seating--just a window order and two fold-out tables--we arrived early to secure a seat. Overall, the place had a good vibe, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend it.

Burritos La Palma are known for their chewy house made flour tortillas. I always get the con todos because it has meat, beans, and cheese. I've tried the birria and deshebrada before and both were too dry. This location is slightly more generous with their salsa, giving 3 total for 4 burritos. Their location in El Monte only gives one sales for 2 burritos.

The food was very very tasty. Very hole in the wall type place. The service could have been a little bit better. Nothing really bad about the service, it just wasn't as helpful as I am used to from other restaurants. Nonetheless, I was able to make my decision and ordered the double burritos. I knew it wasn't going to be your standard sized burritos because the cashier showed me. I went ahead and ordered anyways. Amd although the burritos combined could've been considered 80% of a solid street burrito, for the taste and freshness I would 100% go back to this place.

Burritos are delicious! Just wish they were a bit bigger since they are not in the traditional burrito size. From the ones that I've tried, the deshebrada burrito was my favorite. The burritos come with salsa and a serrano jalapeño to give additional flavor to the burritos. The service was quick. It only took a a couple of minutes for the burritos to be ready after placing your order. Be aware that there are only a few outside tables and chairs for you to use, so it's not ideal place for large parties. Will come back to try out the additional burritos!

Still pretty good with the soft tortilla and tender birria. Not much birria in the skinny burritos but 2 filled me up again since the tortilla is very rich. Tortilla could be cooked a bit more since 1 of the burrito was borderline getting flour dough taste. Guess it's a fine balance of making soft chewy tortilla vs too cooked hard. Worked good for lunch and rest will take home to family for dinner.

Stopped by here and got me 2 burritos. They were simple and pretty small, deshebrada burrito and a birria burrito. They were soft to the bite, some salsa to top it off. I honestly didn't think this spot would be good. The deshebrada burrito con todo was good stuff, the cheese added that touch to it. The birria burrito was pretty mid, nothing special but it wasn't bad. Deshebrada burrito: 8.3 Birria Burrrito: 7.1

This Micheline recognized burrito take out spot is a "must-add" to your culinary experiences. Located within La Tropicana market (also an excellent place) you'll find an accessible menu to meet your taste buds! And, if you arrive after hours, you can purchase their delicious burritos from the frozen section well packaged in a box. I've tried all of their meat options and they get an A+! But, what excites me most is when I can have warm, spicy chips and a salsa that's not scared to be real! So... get an order of chips and salsa and you'll know what im talking about!

tl;dr the dynamic chile verde headlines a can't-miss burritos mojado platter at this family-owned fast-casual mini-chain Burrito shops are ubiquitous across Southern California. But few specialize in the simple, sushi roll-sized Zacatecas burrito. Enter Burritos La Palma, a mom-and-pop hole-in-the-wall turned mini-chain. Here, the flour tortilla burritos are loaded only with your choice of stewed meats. Turn them into "especial" burritos mojados to enjoy a generous ladle of fragrant, meaty salsa verde and a sprinkle of Monterey Jack. While minimalistic, these burritos have earned wide praise, including Bib Gourmand recognition by the Michelin Guide. Burritos La Palma has now expanded to a handful of locations across SoCal. The original El Monte Shop barely pops against its drab, mostly industrial block far off the 10. There are a few dedicated parking spots outside the tan, plaster storefront. The bright lighting, white-and-red color palette, and matching wall art inside are drastically more aesthetic. Place your order from the trim, burrito-centric menu at the open kitchen-checkout counter immediately to the left. A mix of wooden laminate booths and round, cafe-style two-seater tables is packed into the narrow dining room to the right. Spanish-language pop music mixes with sizzles and clangs from the kitchen. Expect a steady trickle of takeout customers even during off hours. I arrived at Burritos La Palma for an early weekday, and I was able to order immediately. I opted for the Platillo Especial: a combination plate of 2 burritos mojados, refried beans, and undressed salad. The sides were bland and totally forgettable, initially making me second-guess my decision to pay $5 extra for the combo. The sugar-forward, barely cinnamon-y Horchata was similarly lackluster. But the tangy chile verde was alone worth the premium. Each diminutive burrito felt surprisingly hearty, filled to the brim with tender birria. The chewy tortillas were sturdy against the soup of salsa, and the deliciously rich culmination melted in my mouth. I was impressed enough that I ordered another platter to take home to my partner -- and it held up admirably against the 30-minute ride home. Although the platter defaults to 2 birria de res burritos, you mix and match any protein options; the Deshebrada doubles down on the salsa verde, while the Chicken Tinga sports a subtle spice. Nowadays, the Platillo Especial runs for $16 -- slightly pricey but undeniably delicious. The secret is in the homemade chile verde, stewed with a trade secret recipe of dried chiles and pork. It's a no-brainer whether or not you should shell out the extra $5 for the combo; the only question is which two proteins to choose.

The menu is quite simple, but beware that no prices are listed on the main menu, but they are on the paper menus. They accept Apple Pay/credit cards. I ordered the asada burrito and the pollo caramelo and added the grilled poblano (as recommended on Yelp!). The tortillas were the true stars -- soft, nice chew, with a buttery mouth feel (probably lard). The fillings were just ok. The inside reminded me of a Taco Bell 7 layer burrito -- a lot going on but all the flavors kinda blend together. I (incorrectly) thought the beans were refried, but they are not. Whatever is going on inside, I didn't find much structure. The burrito was the best. The caramelo was a lazily folded burrito. I read that it was like a quesadilla, but I couldn't disagree more. I would skip this next time. I spent $25 and it was a lot of food, but I wasn't impressed, especially given the hype and the fact that LA should really be the pinnacle of Mexican food. Not sure if I'll make a second trip here.

The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. I browsed the menu and had a really hard time deciding, but ended up on the cauliflower rajas taco, the crispy shrimp taco & the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The waiter recommended the crispy shrimp taco, but I actually enjoyed the vegetarian tacos more. I love cauliflower and poblano so that taco was a great starter. So much flavor and a variety of textures. The tortillas were super flavorful too. The potato taquitos came next and I am actually obsessed. The outside was perfectly crispy, the interior was soft, flavorful & cheesy. The sauce complimented it perfectly. I can not recommend them enough. The crispy shrimp taco was really good, but I also tried a crispy fish taco and would honestly get that over the shrimp. I think there was mango or something in the coleslaw of the fish taco because it had a really nice fresh flavor to it. Last, I had the vegan Korean BBQ taco. The mushroom shreds & the flavor were just perfect. Again, as a pescatarian I have really never had Korean BBQ because it's so heavily meat focused. I truly loved this taco. The building is an original piece of the City's history, boasting a menu that features their famous burritos that vary in size from a regular to a huge party size beast that can feed several. I tried the Hollenbeck and the Okie burritos on two separate occasions via pick up, as aforementioned, the service was quick, convenient and the pick up window is seamless, parking is located next to the structure and I haven't had problems getting there. Hollenbeck was good but I definitely enjoyed the Okie burrito more, I ordered the "original" size once and didn't seem to learn my lesson the second time, these burritos can feed two in Original size. They offer a "Mini" version which would be satisfactory for one person. My favorite thing about these burritos is how "home-made" they are, the salsas and meats are fresh and taste like they came out of an abuelitas kitchen. I still need to try the crunchy tacos and nachos which look great, I recommend trying this classic establishment at least once if you're in the area.

AMAZING. So efficient, very clean, love being able to see them prep food at the bar area…read more Pulpo a la brasas - low key a must, octopus is so tender. Didn't care much for the rice/beans but not bad. Comes with blue corn tortillas, but honestly the octopus and almond sauce (think b*tchin' sauce) were delicious. Great cherry tomato pico de gallo. Scallop aguachile - wowwww the scallops were so fresh, literally bursting is my mouth. They were sweet, tender, and perfectly paired with the tangy lime sauce. Taco de pulpo - ok so this is pretty much an assembled pulpo à la brasas, BUT I will say the full meal was more tender because it was an entire grilled piece of grilled vs one tentacle. If with a group, def recommend getting the entree to split vs individual tacos. Smoked kanoachi tostado - delicioussssss the smoked kanoachi (amberjack) was the perfect glue for the ceviche. Another banger. I was at capacity at this point, but the only change I'd make is swapping the taco de pulpo for the ahi tostado. So really, Holbox did everything right, and was so good it's gaslighting me into how I could have ordered more strategically. I arrived around 3:45pm on a Sunday, and the line wrapped around the corner. Bar seats are FCFS, so use that information wisely...and you may get seated immediately :P

There is a private lot but fills up, and there's also adjacent street parking. I love sitting at the bar and seeing the plate being prepared. Also love the open freezers so you can see the fresh seafood hanging. Another standout was the homemade hot sauces! Each had a distinct flavor from sweet, smokey, and hot so it was really fun to try. The ceviches and the raw cold dishes were my favorite, especially the scallop aguachile! SO GOOD. Would order that 100 times.
