I proceeded to go to the bar to order 2 drinks at the Happy Hour prices. Bar tender gave me a hard time because I was sitting at a table vs at the bar. Eventually got drinks but the evening was not off to a good start. Proceeded to order dinner. Menu is minimal with not many selections. Got the meatloaf wrapped in bacon and wife had a pasta dish. Portions were small and prices were high. The meals tasted good but nothing that knocked out socks off. Don't think we are going back. Only 2 Stars in my book. read more

We dined here last night for my husband's birthday. It was impromptu after a movie and we didn't have a reservation. The place was quite crowded and we were seated outside in the bar area, which we really liked because they had tables as well as bar seating. It happened to be a balmy evening with little to no wind. We were not rushed; it was truly dining. We all enjoyed our selections which were: wedge salad and chopped salad, ribs, bacon wrapped meatloaf, and a burger. The carmelized cauliflower was really good. There were some other interesting vegetable choices as well. There was music, but I don't know what the primal music program will be. Let me tell you about brunch at Burt & Max's. First, there is a Bloody Mary bar. As a rule, I am not a Bloody Mary guy, however, the bar would make me want to switch from screwdrivers to bloody Mary's. The brunch menu is good, an excellent balance between breakfast and lunch. Try the breakfast burrito, it will not disappoint, nor will the chicken and waffles. It may have been perfected at Roscoe's in Los Angeles, but it was kicked up a notch in Delray at Burt and Max's. We chose to sit at the bar. Normally I hate sitting at the bar, but we were watching march madness games so the bar was a necessity for tv's. Behind the bar was Melissa. She pours a fantastic drink, has just the right amount of bartender skill and bartender wit one would expect from a neighborhood place. My drink was never empty and she was always quick and attentive. She remembers names, which doesn't happen much these days, and with a full bar on a Sunday, she handled everyone with ease and a smile. Just ate there this evening at the bar and the food was absolutely delicious. Had an issue with my meal where a hair was actually in the spaghetti and I didn't notice it until half way though my meal but they took it back right away and without a question took it off my bill. This place has a cool setup and layout, and I've been back several times. To be honest, the food that I have ordered has been pretty good...But I keep ordering the same stuff b/c the menu is a little boring. We're in South Florida...I hate seeing places that cost this much serving expensive dishes of Salmon, Idaho Trout, Meatloaf, Skirt Steak, Chicken. Borrring. There's several dishes that incorporate Mahi but still, this menu could be much better...They should look to the Menu's of comparable places on East Atlantic Ave like Park Tavern, Dada's, 32 East for inspiration. My grandparents and I enjoyed lunch on Tuesday afternoon. Our server, Darren, was really great, and very knowledgeable about the food. I had the pesto pizza, it was so yummy. I also couldn't resist the sweet potato fries. My grandparents raved about their food, the hotdog and the chicken sandwich. I'm a vegetarian, but I have to say that hotdog look REALLY amazing. For dessert, I usually have the carrot cake, which is served as a huge cupcake. I'm seriously addicted to it. I wanted to try something different though and opted for the waffle sundae with chocolate sauce. A waffle for dessert, you ask. The answer is a definite yes. read more

I looked for a restaurant to take my daughter right fast before meeting with her mother, I saw on yelp Burt and Max's had 3.5 stars with over 150 reviews and only 2 dollar signs, what? Skeptical yet open we drove over and got a seat right away from a gorgeous hostesses and hostess in training , I know two for one right? But then they stuck me in a guy waiters section ugh... But I did have a view of the female bar tenders , so kinda decent. The waiter was a little unsure wether we belonged here but I didn't allow that to effect his tip. We ordered two drinks and looked at the menu, right away I could tell they were missing half the dollar signs on yelp, no worries though I knew it would be that way because I drove past it couple times and got the vibe. So with gusto we ordered the skirt steak and meatloaf. We received cornbread fresh and warm and before we could finish said bread, the entrees arrived. Portions were a tad small for the price and felt like meals were prepared earlier , yet taste was still in tact. All in all the experience could have been better , yet still worth a try one day. read more

We are sad to write this review as we were really looking forward to our dinner last night. Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 people in our group were unimpressed. I had the turkey burger. All of the 'fixins' were delicious but the turkey burger itself had a bad flavor. My husband's pork chop ($27!!) was overcooked and bland. My friend's skirt steak was 'passable/not great' but her mashed potatoes were dry and the snap peas were drowning in sauce. The saving grace was the slice of bacon wrapped meatloaf. I went for happy hr tonight my favorite red blend "the magician" has been removed from the menu. Joe the bartender did not know why. I'm amazed how many businesses don't listen to the folks on the front line Joe said it was very popular. I don't have one negative comment to say about Burt and Max's. Whenever I go there the presentation, flavor, and temperature are spot on. Last time I visited Burt and Max's... Joe catered to my every need at the bar....not over powering but just enough. Speaking of Burt and Max's staff, Lauren is one of the sweetest people I've ever met in my life. She normally stops by our table and makes sure we're having a wonderful experience!!! All of the Burt and Max's staff are all together genuine people... I arrived at 4:50 pm on a Thursday. The restaurant was mostly empty. I was a party of two and the hostess would not seat me until my entire party arrived! We decided to check out the new Delray Marketplace area after hearing some good things. Of course the first choice for a restaurant is Burt & Maxs which we wanted to try since we usually enjoy Maxs Grille. The decor and atmosphere of the place is very inviting with colors making it seem comfortable. The server was nice and attentive. The only problem that we experienced was with the food. The focaccia bread, like others have stated, wasn't to good. It was pretty stale and tasteless. The onion soup dumplings seemed interesting so we decided to give it a go. They were very underwhelming.. The taste was basically mediocre onion soup meets dumpling dough (duh) but I expected more from them. The bacon wrapped meatloaf had a decent enough flavor but nothing out of the world. The saving grace of the entrees was the chicken and waffles. Overall the place looks great but they definitely have to work on the execution of the food. Definitely promising though. read more

We arrived late one Sunday afternoon, were seated and given a lunch/brunch menu. Our server told us the egg dishes on the brunch side were not available but everything else was. However, each time we ordered a non-egg brunch item, our server returned from the kitchen to tell us that it was not available. We asked for the dinner menu but were told we would have to wait an hour to see it. We just gave up and ordered something simple. I had a basic hamburger ordered medium. It was served rare, the bun was soggy and so were the fries. My husband ordered the turkey burger - it was small, flavorless and totally unappetizing to look at. His asparagus would have been tolerable had it not appeared to have been sitting around all day. The well drink I ordered was $10 while specialty drinks on the menu were also in the $10-$12 price range. No plans to return. read more

I visited the Del Ray Market place location last week @ 6 p.m. on a Wednesday evening. There were 5 in our party. We were seated promptly and placed our orders. Two of us ordered the small beef rib dinner for $16.00, two of us ordered individual pizzas and one of ordered a chicken chop. I was very disappointed in my meal. The dinner was a plate filled w/ mediocre mashed potatoes, five string beans and canned fried onion rings sprinkled on top. The "beef rib" was 2 pieces of 1/2 dollar sized X 3/16" thick stringy meat that had an overly salty sauce over it. I ate mine because I was famished but my companion inly ate half. The meal couldn't have cost $5.00 to produce....a plate of potatoes are NOT expensive. The pizza was spare with toppings, but my companions ate them. The matre di came around and asked how we enjoyed our meals and I told him...since he asked. He did NOT think that I was serious and when I reaffirmed to him that I WAS serious, he walked away. We sat outside, which was nice. We were visiting w/ relatives who we see infrequently, so we were attempting to converse. The background music, while tasteful, had volume problems in that it fluctuated from soft to very loud making conversation hard. We had to flag down the waiter in order to get our water replenished more than once. I was NOT impressed with this place and will not go back. read more
