My husband and I met friends there Saturday February 20th. We chose Burt & Max's due to it being somewhat 1/2 between us. My husband and I ate there once a couple years ago for dinner and I remembered it not being bad. The decor and atmosphere are very nice. We were seated quickly as we had reservations and menus and drinks followed rather quickly. After that the service was slow. I do not blame the waitress as it was obvious she had a lot of tables and was running around crazy. she was very pleasant and I believe did the best she could. There were forgotten items and long waits when asking for another beer. I feel understaffing is the fail of the restaurant management. The food was good. Not great, just good. For the price we were paying I would have expected better quality of food. I'm a big proponent of the food items should be worth the cost. I don't mind paying top dollar for exceptional food. We had our happy hour at Burt and Maxs on 4/25 with 30 girls and everyone had a fabulous time. The service was outstanding. Tyler was our waiter and really handled 30 woman really well. Maggie, their manager, made sure everything ran soomthly. She set up everything for us. She sent extra waiters and waitresses out to help. I can't believe I never reviewed this place. I thought I had. We've been here maybe twice before, in the past few years and it's always been a solid place for a fun time with good food & drinks. Located in the Delray Market Place, on the corner of Lyons & Atlantic, it's an always busy restaurant featuring many fun food and drink items. There's something for everyone. It's pretty casual here,although I wouldn't show up in flip flops & a tank top. We needed a quick bite to eat prior to a late movie at the nearby theater,so grabbed two seats at the bar & ate there. We were greeted immediately and I ordered the Cucumber Smash(Grey goose, cucumber, and other refreshing ingredients). Delicious. We shared the chicken sausage pizza,which came out hot & fresh. My first time here and safe to say I will return. Has a very relaxed environment. The service is great and all of the food had great flavors. I am not a zucchini eater and the zucchini that came with the calamari was delicious. And my friend had a the shrimp and salmon burger and loved it. As a friend dining with us suggested, the food lacked "love." I agree. The pizza tasted like refrigerator pizza from a local supermarket, the Korean BBQ bowl was filling but wasn't something I will crave in the future, the shrimp soft tacos were tasty enough but cold, and the stir fry chicken lacked flavor. The major positive is the screened-in dog friendly porch, which our furry family member was happy to join us in. The social scene at the bar side (opposite side than the patio) seemed festive. We did not try the cocktails during this visit, so can't opine on them. I was tempted by the bourbon and the cocktail list seemed interesting enough. Came here with a group of friends last night for dinner and we had a great time! Our server Alyssa was a rock star - very sweet and awesome! My friend ordered the smoky mule and had to send it back - way too smoky. Our server took it back and brought her a regular mule right away, the service was excellent! We ordered the eggplant a la vodka pizza for an appetizer. It was delicious but it should be listed as a margherita pizza with pieces of fried eggplant. Don't get me wrong, the pizza was good - but we didn't taste any vodka sauce at all. I ordered one of the specials of the day, the mahi mahi and it was perfectly cooked. Visited on the advice of my best friend's wife, who said it's one of her favorite eateries. Made a reservation (highly recommended). Comfortable seating, the restaurant decor is somewhat rustic, like a ski lodge...which is funny considering you're in FLA. Anyway, my wife ordered the Shrimp Risotto and LOVED it! I really wanted to love this place, but the food just wasn't quite up to par. We came for brunch and had a reservation yet waited 15 minutes while other people without reservations were seated right away. The onion dumplings were too smooshy and just felt like gummy balls soaked in delicious soup, but since the dumplings come in a dish with little holes, you can't even drink the soup from the holes. I think it might have been sitting for awhile since it wasn't very hot at all. The short rib pizza was extremely dry and had very little meat on it. There was hardly any sauce and the cheese was also lacking, even after asking for extra cheese. The burger was good, and cooked very well as was the egg on it. Their ranch is also good. The waitress was attentive and filled the soda and brought drink refills very quickly, so that was a redeeming quality. Then, we were charged an extra $65 for the people sitting next to us, and we almost didn't realize the bill was twice the price it should be. That's kind of a big mistake. read more

I was having dinner with a good friend of mine and we had a reservation at 5: 45 p.m. It was a rainy night and not much going on. At around 7:45 p.m. a man came up to our table and lifted up the check holder and looked at it looking for our credit cards so we could pay and said "so what's going on?" And we said we were enjoying our dinner and catching up with each other. We asked if there is an issue and he said that they were on a wait and very busy and basically if we could please pay and let them seat other guests. We were totally flabbergasted. We literally thought we were being punked. I have been in the restaurant business and was a trainer for Darden Restaurants and have never experienced anything like this. We told our server Andres, who was excellent, what happened and asked who the guy was. We were told his name is Steve and is the general manager! Seriously!? We got up and paid and then asked to speak with him and another manager named Monica came out and told us Steve had just left. While we were waiting for Steve, we had been out of our booth for 15 minutes and nobody was seated there and there was nobody at the entrance waiting either. It was not a busy night at all. Monica made it even worse! When we told her what happened and that it totally ruined our evening, all she said was" I am not sure how busy we were when Steve came to your table" and was not apologetic at all. Monica was very snippy and rude. She then said very sarcastically to "Have a nice night". Worst experience ever. I will not return to this establishment again. If You know what they say, if you have a good experience, you will tell one person. If you have a bad experience, you will tell 10 people. read more

The food for the most part is really good. We started off with the onion soup dumplings which were excellent! I had the Philly cheesesteak which I was disappointed with. This would be a lot better if it was made with real cheese. It's made with what they call provolone sauce. The "sauce" tastes very powdery and was not good at all. We were very lucky to hit the perfect time to get a hightop table adjacent to the outside bar. They have reasonably priced happy hour items. We ordered one of each. Specialty drinks will cost you $10-$15 each. We all had two rounds of drinks each. Ordered one of each of the happy hour appetizers and two males the bill came out to $180. We planned a last minute family dinner and made reservations for 8 that same afternoon. We arrived on time and immediately were shown to our table. While we walked to it, my sister noticed that the floor at the entrance is made of pennies so she said "oh, look, for good luck" and smiled. As soon as we sat we noticed that some of the tables too had pennies incorporated in them. If not for good luck, the copper color of the pennies goes well with the restaurant's dark wood and dimmed lights. In some parts it even feels almost like a cave which I like but, the problem that when there's no more outside (sun)light, it's almost impossible to read the menu. We had to keep moving trying to see where the last bit of light was hitting and ended up getting our cellphones out for light. Their menu offers just about everything, appetizers including calamari, empanadas, freshly made chips, and more. They have salads, Flat-breads, Sandwiches, Hamburgers, then there's the Large Plates including shrimp, salmon, steak, etc, and they also have a separate healthy menu. They, of course, have specialty drinks, beers, wine, and a full bar. I ordered from their specialty drinks list The Cure. Vodka: Absolut Berri Acai, Pomegranate Juice, Blueberries, Simple Syrup, Fresh Lemon. It tasted almost like a Berry Mojito without the carbonation. It was good but can't say I loved it. For food, I started with a Short Rib Empanada. The outside tasted exactly the same as my grandmother's pastelillos. The inside was something deliciously new to me. Melted Manchego cheese, with beef, and drizzled with a just enough spicy aji crema sauce. I loved it! Then I had the Butcher's Blend Burger. These burgers are enormous (check out my brother's The Farm House Burger burger pic). Good luck getting all layers in just one bite. I asked mine cooked medium well and it was still juicy and tender, not dry at all. Flavor was amazing, very well seasoned, I added the cheese to it, and if you add the caramelized onions they put on the side to it, you will have a perfect savory sweet combination in every bite. This also comes with your choice or steak fries, sweet potato fries or onion rings. I had the steak fries, and they are huge. The sweet potato fries I heard were really good too. I tried a little bit of my Mom's salmon and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked, not dry and well seasoned. It came with sautéed spinach and wild rice. My Dad's New York steak looked so good, but he said it was a little dry, but that flavor was great. Staff was OK, quick in getting our drinks, refills, and food came out fast but not really friendly. The guys helping bring the food to the table got some of them wrong and when corrected they acted visibly frustrated and impatient in front of us. They had live music, nothing too loud so you could still enjoy it while conversing with the people at your table, and they offer happy hour Monday - Friday 4:30pm to 6:30pm, Ladies Night Thursdays from 8pm to 10pm, and Build Your Own Bloody Mary Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. So I would give them 3.5 stars. I would come back, place is comfortable, has great food, and is located at the new Plaza at Delray Shopping Center so you have where to walk, and look around before or after lunch/ dinner. Boca (or i guess technically delray) I'm impressed! This restaurant is located in the new center, located in no mans land on Atlantic Ave. The center itself is filled with so many cool new restaurants, shops, etc that my husband mentioned it "almost" made him want to move to Boca. My parents got excited about that one. There's lots of good food options in this center but we settled on Burt and Maxs since I'm a fan of their other restaurants. There was a 30 min wait for a table which is super impressive for end of July in Florida. Definitely make reservations ahead if you want to dine here during season. Fortunately we were lucky enough to score 2 seats at their outdoor bar (full service menu available) and didn't have to wait. A mojoito and some delish fried calamari later we were quite happy besides all the flies that were nipping at our legs, but that's what you get when you eat outside in south Florida in July. For our main meal we split a chopped salad (so good) and the fish tacos (I'd skip these next time). We left quite full, but somehow found room for ice cream at orange leaf...another great biz in my new fave south Florida center. read more

Last year on two separate occasions I had poor experiences with their southern fried chicken and waffles. One time they even remade them but it was like biting through concrete. However I am very happy to report that our visit tonight for dinner was very positive. I wouldn't try the chicken again but I ordered the farmhouse burger which was delicious. Others ordered caesar salad and eggplant parmigiana. Both were very good. The service was friendly and efficient. It's time to update my previous 3 star review of My favorite Rapaport chain restaurant... Which I previously assigned 3 stars because of some inconsistences and sloppiness stemming from a very busy somewhat inundated kitchen.... This being said the menu is always enticing.. With out a doubt our evening was enhanced by our special server,... Joey... Consistent with our previous visits we ordered the wonderful Onion soup dumplings...clearly a 5 star starter when properly prepared.. Occasionly they come out a bit too charred but still good. Joey recommended the Scallops and the Hanger steak which we shared... and thoroughly enjoyed.Joey must have read my mind since he cut the scallop dish in half thinking it would be a bit too much for 2 old codgers like us.... Good move Joey.... since it gave you an extra half a star on this otherwise 41/2 star review.... I suppose I'm being a bit generous because I somewhat short changed this fun loving spot on my previous 3 star review...... Perhaps there should one warning..... I'm a big fan of Henry's and Deck 84 but no so much Burt & Max's. Being a vegan (which a lot more people are these days), there really wasn't much at all to choose from, not even salad wise. I ordered the flat-bread without cheese, which was more like a pizza. It was good but meh. I've had the opportunity to come back and decided elsewhere in the Market Place because of the lack of options. If you're a meat eater, then go for it, I've heard good things. My intention on this review isn't to steer people away in any case, by all means, give it a try. I can tell you though that the owner's other restaurants are absolutely fantastic and those alone should could speak for Burt & Max's. However, more vegan options please! Found this farm to table funky restaurant searching for mud pies around the area. The decor reminds me of hillstone: dark decor with low lights and the smell of delicious wood oven/smokey flavor. We were seated right by the kitchen which is somewhat open and you can see the waiter plating the food before they serve. We started off with the onion soup dumplings which were really fried, such a shame as I thought they would be the real soup dumplings like the ones you get in Chinatown in NYC, where you bite into the dumplings and the souls pours out. So please note- this dish is on the flash fries side. Wood roasted wings- lacked any smoke flavor tasted more burnt than anything and the honey ginger glaze was way too sweet. Short rib empanada- again a little too fried but the meat and the salsa picante were delicious. Heirloom tomato and local burrata- cheese was perfect texture and the tomatoes were dense and had lots of flavor- the balsamic glaze is amazing on top. Short Rib Maytag blue wood fire pizza- yum and yum. We also had the roasted vegetable pizza and added our slow braised beef short ribs entree on Top of the pizza. After a very tough week, my husband talked me into dinner and drinks. I wasn't very hungry but agreed to drinks and appetizers. He recommended Burt & Max's has he had been there for a work lunch recently. He bragged about the Brussel sprout appetizer and he normally ONLY likes my Brussel sprouts. He was spot on!! First off, the service was exceptional, I apologize as I cannot remember the 2 gentlemen who were our servers, but we sat in the bar area booth seating. Super friendly and very patient. We ordered some wine and beer, along with the Brussel Sprouts, Calamari and the Wasabi crusted Tuna. UNREAL!! I ended up ordering a second order of the Tuna, it was that good!! Came here today to meet up with some old friends and they had a great outdoor area with plenty of shade to enjoy our meal at. With a vast menu, they had lunch and brunch options. We opted for the brunch menu and picked the Tuscan Egg Sandwich. While it tasted pretty good, it was super heavy and greasy and was a falling apart and a bit soggy. It was served on more of a big burger bun. I admittedly would have preferred something a bit lighter but it was filling. I was most impressed with the yummy mimosas which were a steal at $6 a pop. The service was fantastic and the server even offered to take our picture a couple of times as we struggled to take it ourselves. He was very attentive (but no overly so). Rating: 48/100 pts I came in one afternoon for lunch, so this rating is just based on the limited sampling I had, which I felt was worth 3 stars. During on weekdays, they have a "10 (choices) for $10" lunch menu that is a pretty good deal. I tried the Daily Quiche + Salad. The quiche itself was fair; not delicately prepared, and a bit too salty, but abundantly filling, with giant chunks of ham throughout. The fact that there are a lot of choices, and that some items change daily means you could probably enjoy their $10 lunch many times over. I'd be remiss if I failed to mention that they have the most frustrating salad I have ever attempted to eat. Everything is chopped so finely to be nearly impossible to eat with a fork. You don't bear the full brunt of this unless you get the salad with an entree, when it's served on a plate (as opposed to a salad bowl, which at least makes it scoopable). They don't honor reservations, they treat their customers poorly and the people that work there are completely unprofessional. I had my birthday party at the restaurant. I was supposed to have had 2 servers for 23 people. One server took the order of one small table and then disappeared for most of the party. The small table got their food while the rest of us waited until they were done. I was basically ignored the whole time. I got my food after watching my friends and family finish their food. Furthermore some of my guests got coffee and when I asked for coffee, I was told it wasn't part of the set menu. When it was time to give out the cake, the server gave me a piece last. He was giving some of my friends second pieces when I didn't get any. The manager finally didn't charge me for the coffee, but I don't plan to go back to the restaurant. read more

Being in the Delray Marketplace makes most everything here visually pleasing, but unfortunatley their isn't much at Burt & Max's other than a nice atmosphere. Came here with two friends on a Sunday evening for dinner after seeing a movie at Frank Theaters in the Delray Marketplace, which is in great walking distance. We had a reservation and got seated right away, even though the place was pretty crowded at the time. For an appetizer we ordered the Wood Roasted Chicken Wings for $11. The portion size was big, plenty for the three of us, but not much taste to the wings. They were covered in some sort of glaze sauce, but they didn't retain much flavor. For my main meal, I had the Farm House Burger, which is vertically huge, almost impossible to take a bit without a mess being made. It was $17 for the burger and fries, and despite its physical size, flavor-wise, I was pretty disappointed. The burger itself had no taste, and just tasted like a piece of meat between two buns with other stuff on top. The steak fries were huge and good, but not enough to save the meal. Our server was fine, came over a decent amount of times, but didn't refill the waters enough. The restaurant itself is a very nice location. Exterior is obviously located in an amazing area, and even the interior is a nice, dimly lit locale. The floors are made up of pennies glued to the floor, which is a really unique and cool effect. Burt & Max's fits in well with the Delray Marketplace area feel and vibe for sure, what it doesn't do well is in all of the other areas. Sat outside which is a lovely atmosphere. Waitress was nice but service was extremely slow- took 30 minutes just to get drinks. We had the wings and I didn't care for the sauce at all. Way too sweet in my opinion (but that is personal preference). My southwest chicken salad barely had any cheese. The chicken was cold and had a rubber like consistency.
