We went here for lunch on a weekday with friends. Parking is plentiful, but it was also very busy. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring it to your table. I ordered the chicken curry Bowl with Jasmine rice and the roasted cauliflower, and a beef empanada. They gave me the Empanada right away, and it was nice when you want. I have to say I did really enjoy this, and the bread was nice and Flaky on the outside. The ground beef was plentiful and flavorful as well. As for the chicken curry Bowl I really was hoping to enjoy this more. It was fine, but nothing that really stood out. Maybe I should have gotten with the mixed vegetables instead of the cauliflower, but it just tasted like it was missing something. The roasted cauliflower was good, but the rice was just very mushy. There were parts of it on top that were fine but once I got into the bowl, it was like a gelatinous blob of rice. This kind of turned me off from it. Id like to try this again but order something different next time.

Loved our experience here: the menu was extensive and the price point was very reasonable. It was very busy, but efficient for quick dining. The space is very clean with a good amount of seating. I really enjoyed the miso salmon special. It was prepared medium rare as recommended and the portions were perfectly sized. My friend built her own bowl and absolutely devoured her chicken and brussel sprouts. The cookies... yum! $3.50 a cookie; but worth it! I can't wait to come back and slowly try everything on the menu.

My friends wanted to meet my puppy, so we decided on this pet friendly restaurant. They have a large covered outdoor patio with lots of tables, perfect for our party of 4. I ordered the free range chicken bowl with garlic mashed potatoes and assorted roasted veggies. I enjoyed my bowl even though the veggies were more like steamed than roasted, which was fine by me. It was a tasty dish that was well seasoned and not salty. My friends got the miso salmon crunch bowl and curry chicken bowl. There were problems with both of these dishes. The salmon was too dry and the roasted broccoli were over roasted, too charred. The Jasmine rice in both bowls were all overly mushy. Whoever cooked the rice had added too much water. The consistency was more like rice pudding! Sadly, they didn't particularly enjoy their food. Properly cooked rice would've made a difference. I liked the restaurant, but it was a miss for my friends....

Kids butter noodles with tri-tip side

At Bushfire Kitchen, you order at the counter and the food comes out relatively quick. We tried the Thai chicken curry bowl with roasted vegetables, the American burger, kids noodles with a side of tri-tip, and tri-tip plate. There are craft fountain drinks available along with flavored lemonades. We also ordered their empanada trio, discounted during happy hour (available from 2-5pm), which came with chicken, beef, and vegetable empanadas. It was nice to feel the breeze on the outside patio during dinner, although we did have to tune out the view of the oncoming traffic in the plaza. Not a big deal though. Lots of parking. And make sure you ask for each piece of to-go container and bag that you need when you're ready to go.

First time here on a recommendation from a friend. The food and lemonades were good, store was clean, and I enjoyed the outside patio. I wish the sandwiches included a side. (But I still bought one to try).

To-go Caesar salad with added tri-tip for $5 . 3 small slices of overcooked meat.

I came back again after soft opening. This time I came with my parents to pick up takeout. We ordered a Caesar salad with tri-tip, a bbq chicken plate with broccoli and vegetables, and tri-tip plate with squash and broccoli. The salad without protein is about $18. Another $5 was added for the tri-tip. For $5, I expected more than 3 thin slices of meat. It was overcooked as well, very different from my previous experience. Oh, and they forgot something this time again. They forgot my salad dressing. The chicken in the plate was super tough. My dad didn't end up eating it because it was so dry even with all the sauces. This was my parents' first experience with Bushfire and they've already told me they don't want to go back. It's a shame because I know the food can be great. It seems the quality of food is not consistent. It's really luck of the draw.

Solid healthy food spot that gives lots of great healthy options including plates, bowls, salads, and sandwiches with good portions! If calling to order, would recommend calling in advance. We came on a Friday and it was quite busy for dinner so it took a while for food to be ready for take out. Ordered salmon bowl and salmon plate which were both seasoned very well! I liked the Korean style cauliflower and veggies it came with. The sweet potato fries were a little soggy by the time we got home as we lived about 10 minutes away but I'm sure if we ate there'd it'd be crispier!

The food was amazing, but even more amazing was the fact that they played darkwave music the whole time (and a customer behind me was singing along to Depeche Mode) What a vibe! This was my first time here and I'm definitely coming back.

    Beef empanada ... yum

Food was good; brussels sprouts were tender with a sweet drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Tri tip and mac were okay and chimimchurri sauce was good. Beef empanada was delicious I really liked that. Service was good and waitress was clearing tables nicely. Ambience was nice inside and I like the outdoor area too.

Salmon bowl with jasmine rice and Brussels sprouts, American burger on GF bun with French fries

If anyone has been to the Bushfire Kitchen in Del Mar, they just opened a new location in Rancho Bernardo! So much of their menu is GF! Most importantly, all of their fried food is GF, so their fryer is GF! My husband and eldest daughter both have celiac and they did not get glutened at either location. I got the salmon bowl which has a house made GF teriyaki sauce, my husband got the American burger and said it's one of the better GF buns he's had, and my kids had the crispy chicken strips and french fries. I love that it was so effortless, the staff are knowledgeable, and the menu is diverse. They also have a GF cookie which we didn't get this time but will be back often!

Bushfire Kitchen is now open in Rancho Bernardo! I visited on their second day operating to take advantage of their promotions. First of all, not sure where the name "Bushfire" comes from, but every time I read it I want to say "Brush Fire". Maybe because living in SoCal it's always top of mind. I don't know but it's kind of awkward LOL. Anyway, I was excited to check out this new establishment which is a regional chain of restaurants with about a dozen locations throughout LA, OC, the IE and San Diego. Founded in 2012, Bushfire Kitchen specializes in "Comfort food you can feel good about". Their seemingly healthy food menu is inspired by global flavors using high quality ingredients. This restaurant in Rancho Bernardo was smaller than I was expecting. The tables and chairs all seem to be high quality and were reasonably comfortable. Unfortunately they were densely packed and oriented such that it felt like a hospital cafeteria. I dined outside on the patio and loved it. Ample shade overhang throughout the entire space. Despite being their second day open, service was very friendly and professional. Not as frenzied and frantic as I was expecting. This is a counter service restaurant, but they bring the food to your table. I ordered a Greek Salad and it was outstanding. Beautifully presented and fresh tasting. It's served with an inadequate amount of dressing on the side. I recommend a larger cup or include two. It also should have been served with a more generous amount of feta. I'm happy that I was able to omit the olives! I wasn't sure if it was premade or not. They feature Happy Hour daily from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. I love that! Offering a generous 50% off beer & wine plus a handful of discounted shareables. They had a nice looking selection of beers on tap. I look forward to visiting again soon and try many more of their tasty looking menu items.

My wife and I tried this place and were underwhelmed. We both ordered burgers and they were not properly cooked. The person taking our order asked if we wanted them cooked medium or well done. See the picture for how it turned out. The patties and buns gave the impression that they came from Costco. I get that the place is new, but this needs to be fixed if this place is going to survive. Great service, but food safety needs improvement.

Chicken bowl, Salmon bowl and side of Brussel sprouts
    Kay C.

I was really looking forward to having a Bushfire Kitchen in Rancho Bernardo. It just opened so it has some kinks to work through. The area to place the order is rather tight with line out the door. Like others have mentioned, very densely packed seating indoors and some seating outside in covered patio. The staff was friendly and helpful answering questions on the menu. I ordered a tri tip bowl with a delicious chimichurri sauce which comes with rice or roasted vegetables, a salmon bowl (well seasoned) with roasted butternut squash and chicken bowl (a bit dry) with roasted butternut squash and some beef empanadas (which were delicious). I also ordered a side of roasted Brussel sprouts. Prices are a bit on the higher side for the portions but food was tasty. Ambiance was family friendly. Will love to return to compare in a month or so.

First off, if you're in San Diego, this should be your only must-visit. I rarely go back to places I've already reviewed, but Hodads is a MUST, non-negotiable!!! The dining room is not fancy and looks like a teenager's bedroom with stickers and license plates adorning the walls. While the burger speaks for itself, whether you get the mini, reg, or double, the patties are thick, juicy, with fresh veggies and a soft, sweet bun to soak up those juices. This goes for the onion rings too, that don't seem to come out of the dryer in a bag. At the end of the day, the service was fast and friendly and carried the ocean vibe a Cali burger joint should have. I even picked up my Hodads T-shirt to probably advertise on my travels! My only question and curiosity is in the fries. I'm not a fan of wedges, and I feel like my last visit, they were thick-seasoned traditional fries. Pros: I got the half-pound burger with fries and it was really good overall. The burger was super juicy, well-cooked, and had that classic hearty, satisfying taste you want from a solid burger spot. The portion size was generous, especially with the half-pound patty, and the fries were a great side to round out the meal. The location in Pacific Beach is also a big plus. It's in a great area with lots going on, so it's easy to grab food and walk around afterward or make it part of a beach day. The overall vibe of the spot feels casual and fitting for PB--nothing overly fancy, just good comfort food done right. Cons: Since it's in a busy beach area, parking and crowds can be a bit of a challenge depending on the time you go. It's more of a casual grab-and-go or quick dine-in spot, so don't expect a sit-down restaurant experience with a lot of space or quiet seating. During peak beach hours, it can also get pretty busy. Verdict: Overall, Rocky's Burgers is a great spot in Pacific Beach if you're craving a juicy, satisfying burger in a fun beachside area. The half-pound burger and fries hit the spot, and it's a solid choice for a casual meal before or after hanging out in PB.
