Came here for the dipping ramen because I was craving noodles but wanted something a little more than a light soba but still comforting without being too rich. The dipping ramen here hit the spot. It was super flavorful and I got the spicy option and enjoyed it because the spicy enhanced the flavor without making me get spiced out. The noodles were perfectly al dente and the broth was so so good. Meat on top was also very tender. I got the karaage as an appetizer and it was very juicy and bursting with flavor. The host was very attentive and gave us the right amount of check-ins while filling our waters. I liked the chill atmosphere and it was nice and cold which I need because the summers here are so hot. Definitely coming back again!
Woke up craving noodles, but more specifically ramen for once. I didn't feel like going all the way to LA for ramen at my usual spot, so I looked up some places around me and discovered Butaton which I've ridden past multiple times. I ordered the Butaton ramen which had everything I like! Minus the bean sprouts. Pretty good bowl of ramen. The noodles were PERFECTLY al dente. The broth was good, but maybe a tiny bit too salty. You could definitely feel/taste the collagen in the broth which was nice. The pork belly was a bit tough and dry though. Portion wise it's pretty small. At first I was considering doing the lunch special where you can add a beef or chashu bowl for an additional $6, but I thought, "Nah, that's going to be too much food." I guess in the end it worked out. I was the perfect level of full/satisfied. However, if you're starving I would definitely recommend doing the lunch special. It's a nice space to dine at for sure! I enjoyed watching the cars/people flow through the Orange Circle while I was eating. Service was fast/friendly. No complaints there. A little steep on the price versus portion though. This meal was almost $24 after tip for a bowl for ramen. Overall, not bad! I've had much better elsewhere, but out of all the local spots I've tried around me so far, this one is definitely one of the better ones so far.
This place is nestled in the heart of Old Towne Orange. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. It tends to get crowded during peak hours on weekends so plan accordingly. We got an order of hot sake, spicy miso ramen, and hanuman ramen. Spicy Miso Ramen- You get chashu, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and green onions. The meat is tender, broth has a good amount of spice, and the egg and veggies make it hearty. Butaton Ramen- The chashu practically melts at the mouth. The broth is creamy and savory. You get egg, woodear mushrooms, bean sprouts, and green onions add a variety of textures and flavors. House Sake Warm- At 7$ a bottle, this was a steal! It's smooth and hits the spot on a cold day. Great experience overall!
Strolled around the Circle for somewhere to eat and stumbled upon this gem. Open seating and table service. Staff were attentive and friendly. Very chill and relaxing ambiance. Food came out incredibly quick and was delicious. We got the spicy miso ramen for $18. The restaurant got pretty busy for dinner service, we got lucky with arriving beforehand. Definitely recommend and would certainly return!
This was one of the best ramen I've had in a while, I think I'm gonna come here more often, the waiter was so nice. Everything is a little bland but the ramen completely makes up for it.
We visited a rainy Sunday evening so they were pretty busy but we got sat within 10 minutes of waiting for a party of 4. They keep the place very clean. The dining area as well as the bathroom which is always greatly appreciated! We might've come when they were short staffed because we did have to go up to the register if we needed something and also to get our check.. but the few staff members were staying busy. The ramen was good. Thick noodles and broth tasted veryy flavorful. The meat was alittle on the dry side and i would recommend adding more veggies to enhance it even more. The overall taste was good. Honestly not a "must try" but if your in the area its a great option! Overall i would come again.
Stopped by Butaton recently for dinner. This is one of our favorite ramen spots. Staff is friendly, music and ambiance are always on point, and food is delicious. We started off with the karage chicken and spicy mayo. My boyfriend got the tonkotsu ramen while I opted for the shoyu ramen with added chili paste for some extra heat. The noodles taste fresh, pork is flavorful, and mixed veggies offer a nice balance. The bamboo shoots are my favorite! We look forward to coming back for our next date night.
I'm not a ramen connoisseur by any means, but this was the best ramen I've ever had in my life. I got the classic Tonkotsu and it was the creamiest broth I've ever tasted. So much flavor! The pork was perfectly tender and all the toppings were delicious. The service was very nice and attentive and the prices were so reasonable. I can't wait to come back here.
We were here this past Sunday and it was cold so it was a perfect day for Ramen! It was a little busy when we got there but we were pretty much seated right away. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and enjoyed it! The broth was creamy and had a rich flavor to it! The noodles were pretty standard but still good nonetheless. The pork was also very flavorful and tender! I wish there were more pieces of pork because it was so good! The bean sprouts, green onions were a nice addition to the dish. I will say the food did take a while to come out but overall it was a good experience and I will be back.

Ordering a nice warm bowl of ramen from Butaton on a cold day was perfect. Butaton is located at the circle of Orange and it's a great place to check out for ramen lovers visiting the area. I tried the Tonkotsu ramen and Butaton ramen. The tonkotsu broth was very rich and flavorful. The pork belly was so soft and it was paired perfectly with the noodles, bean sprouts and green onion. The Butaton ramen had similar ingredients, although the broth was spicy. The prices were comparable to other ramen spots and not super high. I thought they were fair considering you get such a huge bowl. Inside it's very clean and they have a relaxing, calm atmosphere. The food comes out pretty quickly and the servers come to check on you every so often.

The service was quick and fast got our meals out in a timely manner matter so we enjoyed the whole experiences The food was great , the fried gyoza was very flavorful enjoyed every bite . The spicy ramens were really delicious, I got the Spicy Butaton Ramen and my husband got the Spicy Miso ramen . Both were very delicious and we enjoyed every slurp. The spicy got a really nice kick where it wasn't over powering with spice. I'd definitely will come back to enjoy more of what they have to offer . Orange has been getting better with age. The antique shops. The old buildings. The history. And a community that still gives the Orange Circle some life. Right nearby is Butaton Ramen. Their tsukemen is worth trying, especially with the spicy option. Thick noodles, concentrated dipping broth, and enough heat to make a cool day feel a little warmer. If you want to keep it classic, go with the miso or shoyu ramen. Add some gyoza and chicken karaage to the table and you have a pretty good meal. Nothing needs to be complicated. Walk the old streets. Look through a few antique shops. Let the fall air get a little cold. Then find a bowl of hot ramen. Some meals taste better because of where you had them. read more

The standout here is the EGG in the ramen that's soaked up all the incredible flavor of the broth. The restaurant is located on the east side of the circle and space is limited but service was quick enough and ramen was good. My only qualm is that they don't have a chicken substitute for the chashu pork. They did give us an extra boiled egg, which, again, is bomb (better than any other ramen egg I've had) so I wasn't mad about it. We got the signature ramen and the spicy miso and both were yummy. I was stoked to learn that there was a ramen shop nestled in Old Towne Orange, and I'm so glad I tried it out! For lunch, they serve until 3:00pm (from what I remember), so by then, walk-ins had died down. The staff was attentive and quickly offered me a seat. Bowl brought out in under 5 mins. If you're eating alone, it is an absolute treat to sit by the windowsill. Because the shop sits right in front of the Old Towne circle, you're still a part of the animation outside-- people- watching from the comfort of a ramen bowl. The ramen was a good portion for the price. It was still very satisfying without being overly heavy, so you don't leave with a food coma. The next time I visit downtown, I will definitely visit Butaton again. read more
Every bowl of Ramen here is a study in softness. Pork tastes delicious usually. Now imagine it soaking in hot broth. Think of the changes the hot broth would make to pork's tender meaty appearance. Do the same imagining, but for eggs this time. Ramen renders eggs so soft that they slide down the soft palate like socks on linoleum. I don't really remember the service. I did not pass out from hunger, and there were not any lunch lady hair nets in my Ramen, so I'm assuming I had decent service here. The ambience here is quiet. So hushed one can hear a solitary noodle adrift in a broth bowl seconds before it's slurped into oblivion. I got more in touch with the silence & calm in my subconscious while dining at Butaton. I left serene enough to forget all past disappointments, and fully present enough to direct my higher self towards the perfect future awaiting me. read more

I love the conveniency of this place especially the availability of the staff at least an hour before closing. Thank you for that hospitality after we seen a show on Chapman university. We managed to get a bowl of tonkatsu ramen and side of fried octopus. Really delicious and filling to the tummy. The ambiance is clean and simple. Easy to come in and see either the QR code menu or the actual menus. Will come again ! read more

Came here on Thursday for lunch. First time here. Got the Butaton Ramen and lunch special. The rice, beef, and salad were nice for the price and tasted good. When the ramen came I was surprised by how big the chashu was and how big the bowl was. Both are bigger than this other Ramen place I go to. I loved the chashu. Very tasty. Well done but still tender. Just the way I like it The noodles are softer than I would have expected but not complaining. I actually enjoyed the noodle texture very much. I've had chewier noodles before, but I liked the softer texture very much too. The broth was very hot. And mid spicy. While I enjoy the broth. In my opinion, the flavor and richness of the broth was not as great as this other ramen place I've been to. It did not ruin the meal but was a downer. Maybe I'll try another flavor next time. The service was top tier. My waiter was excellent and attentive when I was ready to order food and drink without disturbing me while I ate. Was not expecting such good service. The waiter exceeded my expectations. I kicked myself because I forgot his name. I like how roomy the dining area is for both single diners and groups. I felt comfortable in my seat. Overall good experience with food, service, and seating. A bit expensive. But I will be back. read more

Best Ramen in OC! Delicious. Authentic. good portions and value. They also offer spicy and Tsukemen. I also like all food comes out piping hot, as it should. It comes with seaweed, green onions, bean sprouts and full egg. A lot of other places charge extra for EACH of those. I think it's better than Silver-lake and Hiro Nori. read more
Located in the heart of Downtown Orange, Butaton Japanese Ramen offers some great options for those seeking Japanese noodle soup. We stopped in on a recent chilly evening when ramen was the perfect option to warm up. It wasn't overly crowded in the small restaurant. Roughly less than 20 tables with bar top seating along many of the windows. We ordered the spicy tofu appetizer to start. As many previous reviews stated, it isn't overly spicy. Just enough for flavor but not heat. For ramen options we had the Veggie Ramen and the signature Butaton Ramen. The veggie lacked flavor sadly but was loaded with veggies and tofu. The Butaton had a hearty broth and was very flavorful. Both had delicious hand pulled fresh noodles. Service was top notch. Servers came around and checked on things to be sure the meal was enjoyable. Keep on Yelp'n! read more
Cute ramen spot in the corner of old town orange. They have lunch specials which is what we got. It's a rice bowl and salad added to any ramen for 5.50$ extra. The servers are friendly and attentive. The ramen was flavorful. read more

Soupy noodle weather time!! I love it when cooler temperatures start. That means soup is the best and what better than noodles with soup and to top that... how about ramen!?! Since I am a pussy for spices, I got the regular Tonkotsu Ramen. It hit the spot this past Mouthwatering Monday night. The broth was rich in flavor and the soup was thick. With the egg and pork belly along with all the toppings, the texture and flavor of the ramen was good because it was varietal. I especially love putting some strands of noodle into the spoon and adding some actual soup... combining the two elements makes that "bite" so much better! To add on delicious-ness to my taste buds was the Asahi and I had to get a large bottle. It was paired nicely! As a closure -- dessert! They only have the Lychee Sherbert. That, too, was yummers! It was tiny bits of actual Lychee. That definitely cleansed my palate. A great refreshing end to the meal. What I love about this restaurant location is the corner window seats. I enjoy people watching and city/townscapes. This view is able to provide that experience of some city lights from the street scene, cars driving by, and since Old Towne Orange is such a pedestrian friendly location -- there you have the people watching. The overall ambiance is modern and simple. Nothing too exciting. Japanese simplicity I guess. I think the green plants do add some zen to it. Moder, clean, simple, and zen-ful! Service wise is interesting. My first time was ages ago and I think I ordered at the front register..? Anyhow, the setup looks like one of those spots where you order first, then sit down. It got confusing... I think there were only two staff as both server and runner. But I found myself going up to the register counter more than I should. This part should make my 5-star review an actual 4-star, but the food and window seat experience is just so good!! Parking is a hit or miss. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant, but if it is all occupied, then side street parking is next and you would need to walk. Personally I enjoy walking so this isn't an issue for me. In the end, worse case scenario is the parking structure on the other side of the Orange Circle! Eating and walking -- the best! read more

Trinh and the homies here at Butaton Ramen are incredible. We've passed by it many times in the circle but always have seemed to catch them closed from the 3-5 hours. We finally had a chance to check them out and oh boy were we stoked. The gyozas were amazing, and we highly suggest ordering a side of the sauce that usually comes with the thick ramen noodles, so good, forgot what's it's called but you'll see it at the bottom of the menu, get that on the side. The ambiance here is modern and you can sit privately or in tables in the center. Great views of the circle and we can't wait to get back. Thank you Trinh and team at Butaton!! read more

One of my favorite ramen places! Tonight, we ordered the beef bowl and the spicy tsukemen ramen. Both were fantastic as always. It's located in the plaza downtown, so even if there's a short wait, there are plenty of places to walk around or even grab a quick drink beforehand. read more
First time at this location. It's located Old Towne Orange. There's street parking available, but I usually park in the free parking structure close by. I came on a Friday afternoon and there were a few parties seated, but luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. I tried the Tonkotsu Ramen ($14.50) and my friend had the Butaton Ramen ($15.95). Both ramens were good! I think ramen is always really good in the beginning and it can get tiring towards the end so we had a hard time finishing our bowls. The ramen came out quick and the waitress was attentive. Overall, noodles and soup are always a good option during the cold days. read more
