It was super flavorful and I got the spicy option and enjoyed it because the spicy enhanced the flavor without making me get spiced out. The noodles were perfectly al dente and the broth was so so good. Meat on top was also very tender. I got the karaage as an appetizer and it was very juicy and bursting with flavor. Woke up craving noodles, but more specifically ramen for once. I didn't feel like going all the way to LA for ramen at my usual spot, so I looked up some places around me and discovered Butaton which I've ridden past multiple times. I ordered the Butaton ramen which had everything I like! Minus the bean sprouts. Pretty good bowl of ramen. The noodles were PERFECTLY al dente. The broth was good, but maybe a tiny bit too salty. You could definitely feel/taste the collagen in the broth which was nice. The pork belly was a bit tough and dry though. Portion wise it's pretty small. At first I was considering doing the lunch special where you can add a beef or chashu bowl for an additional $6, but I thought, "Nah, that's going to be too much food." I guess in the end it worked out. I was the perfect level of full/satisfied. However, if you're starving I would definitely recommend doing the lunch special. It's a nice space to dine at for sure! I enjoyed watching the cars/people flow through the Orange Circle while I was eating. Service was fast/friendly. No complaints there. A little steep on the price versus portion though. This meal was almost $24 after tip for a bowl for ramen. Overall, not bad! We visited a rainy Sunday evening so they were pretty busy but we got sat within 10 minutes of waiting for a party of 4. They keep the place very clean. The dining area as well as the bathroom which is always greatly appreciated! We might've come when they were short staffed because we did have to go up to the register if we needed something and also to get our check.. but the few staff members were staying busy. Stopped by Butaton recently for dinner. This is one of our favorite ramen spots. Staff is friendly, music and ambiance are always on point, and food is delicious. We had dinner here tonight and honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. The place is extremely small and not ideal for family dining. The ramen was just average, maybe a 6/10, nothing memorable. We waited over 40 minutes just to get in, and then another 30 minutes for the food to come out . The strangest part was that the lady wouldn't let us wait in the car. Went on a Sunday around 5:15 and was able to be seated right away. Unfortunately though, the food took over half an hour to arrive and after asking about it. I was kind of surprised because the restaurant isn't that big and it seemed like everyone had their food. The staff were kind though. The standout here is the EGG in the ramen that's soaked up all the incredible flavor of the broth. The restaurant is located on the east side of the circle and space is limited but service was quick enough and ramen was good. My only qualm is that they don't have a chicken substitute for the chashu pork. They did give us an extra boiled egg, which, again, is bomb (better than any other ramen egg I've had) so I wasn't mad about it. We got the signature ramen and the spicy miso and both were yummy. I was stoked to learn that there was a ramen shop nestled in Old Towne Orange, and I'm so glad I tried it out! For lunch, they serve until 3:00pm (from what I remember), so by then, walk-ins had died down. The staff was attentive and quickly offered me a seat. Bowl brought out in under 5 mins. If you're eating alone, it is an absolute treat to sit by the windowsill. Because the shop sits right in front of the Old Towne circle, you're still a part of the animation outside-- people- watching from the comfort of a ramen bowl. The ramen was a good portion for the price. It was still very satisfying without being overly heavy, so you don't leave with a food coma. When the ramen came I was surprised by how big the chashu was and how big the bowl was. Both are bigger than this other Ramen place I go to. I loved the chashu. Very tasty. Well done but still tender. Just the way I like it The noodles are softer than I would have expected but not complaining. I actually enjoyed the noodle texture very much. I've had chewier noodles before, but I liked the softer texture very much too. The broth was very hot. And mid spicy. While I enjoy the broth. In my opinion, the flavor and richness of the broth was not as great as this other ramen place I've been to. It did not ruin the meal but was a downer. Maybe I'll try another flavor next time. The service was top tier. My waiter was excellent and attentive when I was ready to order food and drink without disturbing me while I ate. Was not expecting such good service. We stopped in on a recent chilly evening when ramen was the perfect option to warm up. It wasn't overly crowded in the small restaurant. Roughly less than 20 tables with bar top seating along many of the windows. We ordered the spicy tofu appetizer to start. As many previous reviews stated, it isn't overly spicy. Just enough for flavor but not heat. For ramen options we had the Veggie Ramen and the signature Butaton Ramen. The veggie lacked flavor sadly but was loaded with veggies and tofu. The Butaton had a hearty broth and was very flavorful. Both had delicious hand pulled fresh noodles. Service was top notch. Trinh and the homies here at Butaton Ramen are incredible. We've passed by it many times in the circle but always have seemed to catch them closed from the 3-5 hours. We finally had a chance to check them out and oh boy were we stoked. The gyozas were amazing, and we highly suggest ordering a side of the sauce that usually comes with the thick ramen noodles, so good, forgot what's it's called but you'll see it at the bottom of the menu, get that on the side. Soupy noodle weather time!! I love it when cooler temperatures start. That means soup is the best and what better than noodles with soup and to top that... how about ramen!?! Since I am a pussy for spices, I got the regular Tonkotsu Ramen. It hit the spot this past Mouthwatering Monday night. The broth was rich in flavor and the soup was thick. With the egg and pork belly along with all the toppings, the texture and flavor of the ramen was good because it was varietal. I especially love putting some strands of noodle into the spoon and adding some actual soup... combining the two elements makes that "bite" so much better! To add on delicious-ness to my taste buds was the Asahi and I had to get a large bottle. It was paired nicely! As a closure -- dessert! They only have the Lychee Sherbert. That, too, was yummers! It was tiny bits of actual Lychee. That definitely cleansed my palate. A great refreshing end to the meal. What I love about this restaurant location is the corner window seats. I enjoy people watching and city/townscapes. This view is able to provide that experience of some city lights from the street scene, cars driving by, and since Old Towne Orange is such a pedestrian friendly location -- there you have the people watching. The overall ambiance is modern and simple. Nothing too exciting. Japanese simplicity I guess. I think the green plants do add some zen to it. Moder, clean, simple, and zen-ful! Service wise is interesting. My first time was ages ago and I think I ordered at the front register..? Anyhow, the setup looks like one of those spots where you order first, then sit down. It got confusing... I think there were only two staff as both server and runner. But I found myself going up to the register counter more than I should. This part should make my 5-star review an actual 4-star, but the food and window seat experience is just so good!! Parking is a hit or miss. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant, but if it is all occupied, then side street parking is next and you would need to walk. Personally I enjoy walking so this isn't an issue for me. I caught up with a friend at this location and off of memory, the interior is well-suited for solo diners or groups of two.
