Perfect little spot Stumbled upon this little coffee place in Dumbo. Hip menu items and you can sit outside. The service was wonderful. View is fabulous, you can't go wrong with that. Friendly and helpful. The coffee is good, really hip place. Lots of tech young professional people go here (I think!). Would definitely go back next time I'm in the city! read more

Review #349 - 2019 I was afraid that I would run late to my 3 PM photoshoot at DUMBO so I ended up skipping breakfast & lunch since I didn't know my way around NYC very well. Luckily, we showed up with more than half an hour to spare so I decided to grab something simple at Butler. We showed up at around 2:15 PM on Wednesday, December 11th; the place was pretty busy, yet not overly crowded. We were third in line so we were able to place our orders pretty quickly. I wanted a hot non caffeinated drink so the cashier recommended the turmeric latte, which sounded really enticing, but it wasn't really my thing. There was very little flavor, but overwhelmed with turmeric. I guess I was expecting a hint of sweetness in there somewhere. It is a very healthy drink though! Luckily, their breakfast empanada was awesome! I wish I could've picked up a second one before I left the area because it was so tasty. The breading was so nice & flaky. So rich and buttery! Every bite was like heaven in your mouth. I'm drooling just writing about it. My daughter got a regular croissant and was super happy with it. She rarely finishes a whole croissant to herself so the fact that did meant that she must have really liked it! Service was nice and friendly. My only complaint is that the door was super heavy so trying to keep it open while trying to push a stroller inside is definitely not an easy task. They have a walk up window for people with pets & strollers, but it was closed due to the weather. read more

The cruffin is worth trying. It's a decent size. The taste is great. The mini sausage roll is Big considering the name is mini, but not as big as the sausage rolls you might be used to across the pond. read more

I really enjoyed this cafe! If I lived in the NYC area, I'd definitely visit frequently. It's a very cute, modern cafe that seems right at home in the Dumbo area. Great vibes, gold accent decor, amazing pastries, and smooth coffee -- checks all the boxes. I came here on a Sunday morning at 9-ish AM with 3 other girl friends. We somehow beat the breakfast/lunch crowd by about 10 minutes. As soon as we finished ordering and sat down at our table, the line was nearly out the door. I got a mocha with almond milk, and my friends got lattes and a cappuccino. The coffee was good! Not life changing and not as "chocolately" as I expected, but was thankfully smooth and had no sour or bitter notes. One of my friends, who doesn't really drink coffee often, immediately noticed how much nicer the coffee was compared to Pret a Manger, for example. The coffee is good but the highlight of our visit was definitely the pastries!! Oh my goodness all of the pastries we got were *chef's kiss*; no misses whatsoever. I tried the vegan date muffin and I loved how dense, flavorful, and moist it was. My friends loved the mini sausage rolls, herb and chili scone, mixed berry yogurt muffin, and petite french toast. Prices are comparable to other independent cafes in the area. I'd suggest coming early on the weekend if you want to grab a seat or avoid waiting in line for 15 minutes. This coffee place was easily one of my favorite spots when I visited NYC. Really liked the customer service, all the baristas were friendly. I came here twice and ordered the matcha, and iced latte with oat milk. Both drinks were so good and smooth. Also, the breakfast empanada and sandwich are perfect for an on-the go snack. I also tried the olive oil muffin and it was so moist and not too sweet. read more

horrible experience. ordered iced coffee she made it way too light. they made iced americano instead. that was too light too. the other woman - dark hat, marroon shirt with a foreign accent proceeded to rip the iced americano coffee out of my hand. she put it down and started helping someone at a walk up counter. the one girl never said can I take your order. this place sucks and so do the people who work there. terrible. go elsewhere. read more

Butler has two locations in brooklyn I visited the one in Dumbo, its owned by Ryan butler a pastry chef with a michelin star. Didn't know what to expect maybe some exquisite and scrumptious tarts and other baked goods. Also the view is really nice, I had an herb chili scone quite different and my friend had an egg sandwich which was on a brioche bun The coffee was basic coffee but the service left much to be desired. Upon arrival, you are greeted by an open green space, due to the plants, with lots of natural light. The environment itself is pleasing & welcoming. The lighting is warm & comforting & the employees are extremely accommodating. We came later in the day but they still had a few gluten free options available. The matcha was AMAZING, (I still think about it weeks later). Water was available to the side which was a nice accommodation. Stumbled upon this well-lit, spacious, and delicious cafe by a pleasant surprise. It is hidden away from the busy streets of dumbo, but crucially located right with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge and with OddFellows ice cream next door for dessert. I order the a turkey sandwich just as a quick lunch, but was again surprised by the quality of the food. The bread had an almost-croissant-like texture, included a handful of greens, and filled generously with non-dry turkey breasts. The owner is Australian! And the staff is generally very friendly. read more

Butler is definitely my favorite cafe in the neighborhood. Great vibe, location and food. The coffee is good too, but ironically it's the rest that makes butler a frequent spot for me. They change the food menu every season by the looks of it. The mushroom toast was amazing, hope they bring it back. Love the chicken sandwich too, the focaccia bread makes all the difference there. Their breakfast sandwich is great too, I'm very particular about bacon but theirs is on point and you can't go wrong with truffle aioli. There's also a takeout window if you want to grab something quick and take it to the Brooklyn bridge pier for the views. read more

This place is going to be a no from me, dog. Okay, I understand that businesses are going to be expensive in DUMBO. But close to $14+ for a tiny sandwich is just too much. I ordered their version of a Cubano (one of their daily specials made with pork sausage instead of ham). It was served on a pretty tiny bun, dripping in mustard mayo. It was pretty good, but because it was the size of a burger bun, I ate it in 5 minutes. That's like $3 a minute. Anyway, I will say that the space is amazing. Big windows, brightly lit. Lots of tables. Maybe just stop in for coffee next time. read more

Really great place in coffee shop/brunch spot in Dumbo! They have indoor seating and what appeared to be table service, but what I liked was that they have a takeout window for on the go. I decided to get a matcha latte which was good (didn't take photo) and the breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was so tasty and the truffle aioli really tied everything together. read more

Butler has such a cute exterior, and great merch. While waiting in line, you can see everything they have to offer except the drinks. I was planning on getting a hazelnut americano, but I peeped the woman's mocha iced coffee in front of me. Babay, that mocha spoke to me, I decided mid order to get the iced mocha($4.50) instead. The lady helping me rolled her eyes, ehh I wasn't to fond of that, but it's all good the coffee was tasty. My friend wanted to go to Butler as it was on her list of coffee places and I was worried it would be too small but it had plenty of seating inside. Since it is popular it was filled but we didn't have a hard time finding a place to sit down and enjoy our coffee. Chai latte with oat milk: Not too sweet and it was really good. One of the best chai latte's with oat milk I've had in New York. Pecan Sticky bun: HEAVEN in your mouth. They toasted it for me and it was absolutely divine. It was so sweet but not overly sweet Views: This coffee shop is right under the Brooklyn Bridge as you can see in the picture with my latte. The view was incredible. Do Not Visit. Much better options in the area. Poor customer service. Staff is robotic. Hot drinks and baked goods are overpriced and sub par. Asked a staff member who was on her phone, behind the counter for some assistance. She barely looked up, told me to ask her colleagues and walked away. When I shared this with the manager, he seemed completely unbothered. I lived in Paris for over 10 years and have to say that American businesses should look to their European counterparts for the definition of first class customer service. So tired of these cafés and restaurants that take your money and act that they are doing you a favor. Also, shame on managers for letting their staff be completely incompetent. read more

The place is very cute! I was stressed about ordering a latte once I realized they didn't have flavored syrups, and only use simple syrup. Well, let me tell you! They don't need flavored syrups because their beans are so good and the coffee is so flavorful. It was delicious! read more

The interior itself is antique, quaint, and there's minimal (but some!) seating for you to enjoy your tea at. One of my favorite parts of this shop is that their tea menu is all around the shop, right on their walls. So, you walk around the shop, look at the different teas (organized by type, caffinated/non-caffinated), smell them, and read the labels. I had a lot of fun doing this! The topping was literally like actual tiramisu rather than just tiramisu flavoring, and it felt like there was more ice and tiramisu than latte. Personally, I would have preferred more of the tiramisu flavor without the full tiramisu texture mixed into the drink. That said, it was an interesting concept and I'm glad I tried it. I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.
