Stopped by Butter Cafe for brunch since we're off this week for the holiday season, and given we'd normally be at work, figured heck let's stop by on a laid back Monday. The space is authentic, pure mom n pop personality with unique and cozy decor that you could tell the place was formally a house converted into a cafe. No corporate vibes here The food tasted fresh with generous portions and absolutely delicious. Had a Maryland style crab cake sandwich with an aioli sauce that balanced out the favors. Crab cake had a nice crunch in the outside while the crab meat was moist on the inside. My wife had the Paris omelette that had caramelized onions, mushrooms, goat cheese, and she added jalapenos. Also had some creamy potatoes that was almost like they boiled the potatoes to make them soft followed frying them for some crunch effect. Nice touch The service was sincerely friendly as well. We were in town for a wedding and just passing through on our way to the airport. We stopped to get a bite here after it being recommended by many and we were not disappointed! All the staff were so nice and they provided excellent service! Even thought they were packed, our waters and coffees never went dry and we were checked on often. I ordered a latte and the spinach and feta omelet with potatoes on the side. It was so simple but it was perfection and exactly what I needed for breakfast that day. Just Eggs folded over, Impossible breakfast sausage & house potatoes. It came with rye bread (and vegan butter) and delicious coffee. I also asked for a side of sautéed spinach just to try it. I loved it all! My son had the Skinny Bxxxh Frittata. Egg whites with tomato's, spinach green pepper, mushrooms and onion. Butter has been hit or miss for the last few years. When it first opened, it was so good! Unfortunately, I have to call this visit my last. I have had far more disappointing experiences here than satisfying ones. I ordered online for carryout because I know Sundays are busy for breakfast and I live walking distance. It wasn't too busy, there were open tables and a lot of staff walking around. Upon my arrival, there were five employees at the counter doing various things, with others coming and going. A group of two that arrived before me was greeted and taken to a table, but when that employee (probably host) came back from seating them, she completely ignored me. She just kept looking down at a seating chart and running to the back. Never acknowledging me any time she came to check the seating chart. After a few minutes of me patiently waiting for any of these five employees to greet me and help me, two men walked in and stood behind me. The host greeted and sat them. Literally looked BEYOND me and took them into another room. I kept trying to get the attention of others but they kept yelling, "be with you in a minute!" and running around frantically. Another couple arrived, and the host appeared again and started to greet them so I cut her off and asked if she could help me first since I'd been there and two others had already cut ahead of me because of her. She just gave me a blank look, handed me my food and said thanks bye! Honestly it was such a ridiculous experience and I'm still so frustrated thinking about it. And I pre-tipped online not knowing the "fees" charge was an added gratuity, so she was double tipped before I even got there. The ambiance is like a busy little diner. Not the cleanest, but you don't expect it to be. Obviously the customer service is lacking. The food was awful. I was home within 30 seconds, so I know it wasn't from travel time lol. The chai french toast used to be my favorite thing but I could barely get down the top piece. It was just too mushy. The fruit that I paid extra for was old and gross. The vegan bacon tasted like they put a whole bunch of black pepper on some leather. The cappuccino was 16 oz and had no foam, so I'm gonna call it a latte instead. Went here for breakfast! This place was happening. There was a 15 minute wait. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu had a lot to choose from. The ambiance was good. They have artwork up all over the wall. It was nice to look at. Our waiter was very quick and getting our order and drinks. The drinks came out in glass jars. The food was delicious! The spot: Quaint little breakfast spot with an extensive menu for breakfast and lunch. The menu includes some great vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. This place is small and has two different dining areas. I felt a bit claustrophobic sitting in the back dining area. I liked that they had plants around the restaurant. Bathroom appeared to be clean. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant, the lot was pretty tight, but appeared to have ample parking. Service was great. Our server was friendly. The eats: The Gluten Free Waffle, dusted with powdered sugar. This was not my favorite. It was very plain and really thick and dry. There wasn't enough butter or syrup to make this enjoyable. The Crab Cake Benedict was decent. The crab tasted pretty fresh. I swapped the english muffin out for gluten free bread. Came with two poached eggs on top of crab cakes, hollandaise, and fresh chives. The hollandaise sauce was good, but the dish could have had more. The chives was overkill. The server admitted she went a bit too crazy with the chives and I don't even like chives. I knew I should have omitted them, but figured it would just be a few I can work around. Served with breakfast potatoes, which were pretty good. I'm pretty sure this dish was not worth $18. My mom tried the Huevos Rancheros. The dish came with two over easy eggs on top of a tortilla shell, topped with avocado, black beans, cheddar cheese & pico de gallo. The tortillas were a bit tough. This lacked the ranchero sauce/salsa. The salsa provided wasn't very flavorful. The Blood Orange Mimosa was pretty tasty. Coffee was decent. Overall, everything lacked flavor. This was a pretty basic breakfast. I wasn't too impressed. For a place that promotes their restaurant as "The Best Breakfast in Dayton", this was quite disappointing. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items. If I'm ever back in the area, I may try this place again but there seems to be other great options in the area that I would consider first. read more

Got brunch here with some friends and was less than impressed. On a Saturday morning expect a wait, which isn't uncommon for brunch places but still something to keep in mind. Our waitress definitely did her best but you could tell she was juggling a lot of tables. The food left a lot to be desired, I got a burger and the middle was undercooked which icked me out a bit but again being that they were so busy, I did not get a chance to mention this to the staff. It was served with potatoes that were underseasoned and generally mid. All in all this won't be a place I plan to return anytime soon. read more

There is a small parking lot in the back where we were lucky enough to find a spot. We arrived around 9 on Saturday and did have a small wait for a table of 4. There are a lot of options on the menu including vegan and vegetarian which was exciting to see. We decided on a breakfast sandwich, pancakes, biscuits and gravy and French toast. If we were to come back I would 100% recommend the pancakes and French toast but the biscuits and gravy were not our favorite as they were a little dry. Was in town for the Flyers game. Hit Butter Cafe on Sunday morning before heading home. Had high hopes and yoooooo this was a bummer. Started off with drinks. They were really good. Almond milk vanilla latte was top notch. The Bloody Mary was nice despite not being at all spicy as requested. They had $1 pancakes so of course we had to give that a try. The pancakes were bomb. By far the best thing we ate. The wait for the food was realllllllly long. It was busy but by no means packed. I got the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were good. The gravy was an abomination. It had no flavor, texture, or body. It was straight up watery. Just a sad situation. My beautiful and smart fiancé got the crab eggs Benedict, and that was another bummer. I added mushroom and onion into it. The steak was seasoned well, and the potatoes are sooooo good. Highly recommend that item. My girl got the raspberry donut pancakes, and they were good and very unique. The vanilla icing was a great counterbalance to the cakes and jelly. Overall, too sweet for me, but for somebody with a sweet tooth- there's no better option. We also got mimosas, and they were alright. Nothing special. Price: Pricing is where this place falters to me. My steak scramble was 15 dollars. Her pancakes were 10(fair price) and our mimosas were 7 or 8 a piece. For breakfast for 2, with 2 mimosas, tip included, I spent 57 dollars. The burgers on the lunch menu were also 15 dollars. Absolutely absurd to me. But, maybe I'm just out of touch. I took a quick road trip to Dayton over the weekend, and I really loved the downtown/Oregon area my friend gave a tour of. Before heading home Sunday morning we went to Butter Cafe and it was great! Cozy diner style with a ton of vegan options, almost all the menu items can be made vegan, and with care! I had the Vegan Classic Breakfast, scrambled just egg, impossible sausage, potatoes and wonder fresh wheat toast (rye and white are also available), it was great, reminds me of the Jersey diner breakfasts I used to get most weekends, I wish some of the local spots near me would make this! read more

I always do pick up. They always take 2.5x as long as the ETA suggests. I've ordered here numerous times over the years and the food is always extremely slow so it's definitely not the fault of any one person. I wouldn't mind if the website didn't always say that it would be ready sooner. I got the crab cakes Benedict, they didn't put any hollandaise sauce on it and by the time I got realized I was already home. Definitely my fault for assuming they'd make it correctly. read more
