Lately, it seems like restaurant service is just not the same anymore and so I was a bit skeptical to take my boyfriend to this place because I didn't know if they were still offering the same excellent service as before. Was I in for a surprise! Not only was the customer service on point and phenomenal. The food was amazing as well! And although they were pretty busy , we got out order super quick less than 20 minutes and it was soo good! Our hostess was super nice and attentive and we left super satisfied. This review is about their pies. I was looking for a place that had banana cream pie just as good as my favorite place in Southern California (Gourmet Pie & Cafe in Los Alamitos). I ordered their banana cream pie, key lime pie, upside down apple walnut pie. Firstly, I was kind of sad because I ordered banana cream pie but they gave me coconut cream pie instead. It was still really good but I feel like the cream was kind of too sweet and glazey (if that makes sense) compared to it being fluffy soft and subtly sweet which is what I like. 7/10. The crust kind of melted into the cream, there wasn't a distinct layer of crust when I ate it. It was all kind of the same texture. Second pie was the key lime pie. It was just okay. It was more of a cheesecake then a pie. A super heavy cheesecake filling. I was hoping it would have a whipped cream top layer and a lighter fluffier filling but it didn't deliver. One bite and I have to have to save the rest for later. 5/10 Lastly, the star of the show. Upside down apple pie. This pie is a 10/10. I would come here again for this pie. The walnut crust is what makes this pie so heavenly. It's like a walnut streusel crunchy topping that's the perfect sweetness. Kind of wish there was more lol. The apple filling was also really delicious, wasn't too saucy at all it was like they coated the apples in the sauce and layered it 5x. read more

I had the corned beef hash with eggs and country potatoes/o'brien. The hash was mushy, gross looking, barely any potatoes, and looked like it had strands of dust in it (I think it was the texture of the canned "meat"). I couldn't eat more than a bite. No flavor. I wish I took a pic, it looked awful. It also arrived almost room temp. Nothing was warm enough, not even the coffee). I regret not asking for a discount considering I couldn't eat anything but the eggs and a few bites of toast. I did let the manager know I was dissatisfied and she was nice, but a small discount would have been better considering I told her the food wasn't warm. I should have spoken up...I'll stick to Digger's Diner. Much better service, reasonable price, and delicious. read more

We are a family of five (2 adults & 3 kids under 8), we were asked to wait even though there were booths available in the first room. Several customers who came in after us were seated first. Although our server was nice, he forgot to bring one of the sides. Of course he apologized and said he'd be right back, he never returned with the missing side order. Someone from the front came to bring our bill and check on us. We asked about refills (because we were never asked) and also the missing side. Only after another server came to our table with our refills did our original server return. Even if we had better experience with service, we wouldn't come back. We've had better food. Another Friday afternoon lunch with the dad.. After we dropped the kid at school, we heading out for a meal. I was hesitant about going to Buttercup at first, because of my last (bad) experience at a different Buttercup.. I am happy to say I was pleased with the service. I was greeted and seated immediately. But, since of the hesitant feeling I went with your basic eggs plate & everything on the plate was made to order. Rox our waitress was great, she was professional and attentive which is always a good thing. I must say, I will go back, to this location no doubt and hopefully will get great service all over again. But next time I will try the benedict if its on the menu which is now my favorite thing to have... well for breakfast that is. read more

They have a great outdoor patio where you can eat and still be warm. Luckily, they have heaters close to each table. The staff is friendly and clean. We've only been here for breakfast and it's always good. They make sure to keep your coffee full. I love that. The pie looks good going to try some next visit for sure. read more

The dinner was so bad. I had the prime rib with mashed potatoes and it was the worst dinner plate I've had. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich which was bad and the fries were soggy, as if they could have been cooked longer. The only passable item were the mozzarella sticks. This is one of my husband and my favorite low-key places to eat. Although the atmosphere is a little more relaxed, we have always had a completely delicious meal here and can count on Buttercup for delivering fantastic food. Now that they are open again, we have gotten take out a few times and now they have some outdoor tables available if you'd like to get out of the house for a sit down meal. Our absolute favorites are the fried buffalo chicken sandwich and the French dips. Their ranch dressing is to die for. Try them! read more

I had fried chicken potatoes and veggies that all were excellent.My wife had the salad wedge and she loved it.We also had the Minestrone soup again excellent. Pros: Basic American diner/comfort food, at reasonable prices. Very good service, quick and attentive (shout out to Pearl!). Clean restaurant interior. Food quality is overall very good. Pies are delicious. I've had many breakfast and lunch dishes, and all have been tasty, with one exception... Cons: Avoid the jambalaya. Order anything else... burgers, meatloaf, any breakfast item; they're all good. Just not the jambalaya. Not. Good. Verdict: My wife and I eat here about once every couple of weeks, and we will continue to do so. It is a reliable choice for a tasty, simple meal. read more

My hat off to the wonderful restaurant Buttercup, on Clayton Rd. in Concord. They are dining on the patio during this tough time. My wife and I were without power at our house because of a PG&E pole placement on our street. We called and were very happy that they would be open. When we got there we were greeted by the Hostess (wearing face mask) and we were escorted to the patio area. The server Jenny 17 was warm and courteous, a job well done during the entire meal. Thanks for being there Jenny and keep up the great work, we'll be back. Everything was clean and sanitized, the menu was paper disposable and the silverware was wrapped in a napkin. A very pleasant paper menu indeed, enough to satisfy a hungry couple. My wife had the SHRIMP CAESAR and I had the FETTUCCINE ALFREDO with SHRIMP. Jenny was nice enough to bring me a little extra PARMESAN CHEESE. Oh my was it good. We ordered dessert of a slice of CHEESECAKE with BLUEBERRY SAUCE and a slice of BANANA CREAM PIE to take home. Maybe the power won't come on until after dark. We salute the Buttercup Diner and their employees for the work that they have put in to keeping the restaurant open for the public to enjoy. Ok, I had their mile high turkey Cob burger. It was a dry chewiness. The beacon was dark, almost black, odd that it too, was also chewy. The menus said spring mix, I did not see that! The vegetables were fresh and crisp, but. Instead of spring mix greens I had iceberg lettuce. To top it off it was drenched in blue cheese dressing, what a mess! The excess blue cheese dressing further increased the salty stale flavor of the burger and bacon. On to the Curley fries! Two words, soggy and stale. Over all presentation was fine, but I am so happy that there was a small potion of the curly fries! I love fries, but the curly fries and their condition, really broke my heart and soured my stomach! My server was very polite, but I'm not sure if she has tried the menu. She could have recognized the errors and saved me. She assured me that the next time I come in I will have a better lunch. For my troubles my server and the manager offered me desert to take home, I declined their offer. A decent gesture, I'm greatly appreciative. Decor is sterile and neutral, and about what you would expect from the last decade. The area where I sat I could hear everything! From the kitchen to the dining hall, it was not good. I'm sorry, but they need to clean! The beer taps need a good polishing. The glass wear had an opaque film. Their was oxidization on the fridge hinges! Loose coffee grinds on the counter, the stainless was in need of a polish, or they need to hide it better. The pie display case needed attention! I so dislike giving hard reviews, and for a meal worth $13.04 it really does not rate one for this type of diner. I'm obviously not their ideal patron. My Buddy and I used to come in here all the time about 15 years ago. It was a regular meeting spot fir Sunday morning breakfast before the games started. We always sat at the bar and threw a few back to get oiled up before the coming festivities. We eventually stopped going cause one of the managers, the owners kid in pretty sure, was having a bad day and was rude. We went back recently for nostalgias sake. Man, what a bad idea. We both ordered the corned beef hash. . It looked like something they found under a bush in the parking lot and then grilled the shit out of. Hash browns were burnt, and the eggs were undercooked. Solid breakfast spot that actually has more options than just the typical eggs and potatoes. My family and I come here at least once a week. Biscuit breakfast is awesome. Homemade biscuits, home made corned beef hash (ask for it well done if you don't want mush) full bar. Great for a hangover. Pancakes are great. Cinnascuit french toast is great when you have a sweet tooth. Lots of solid great options that is consistently delicious. I didn't write a review the first time I had a bad experience at Buttercup because the manager made things right upon learning of what happened. There was a strand of hair on my hashbrowns which I quickly noticed before even touching the food. They took it back, gave me a new plate, and took my order out of the bill. No issues, apologies accepted. This happened a few months ago. Today I came back and ordered the same omelette but decided to skip the potatoes. I asked if I could get avocado instead. My plate arrives with my omelette and this tiny piece of avocado and my first thought was, "Is this a joke?" I asked the server, "One tiny piece of avocado in exchange of half a plate of hashbrowns?" She said she will get me more, but then I had to call the manager. After explaining and asking if I could possibly get more avocado, he said yes. Server came back with more avocado. No apologies from anyone this time. So it seems I was supposed to be OK with the tiny piece of avocado they gave me like this is how it's supposed to be but since I complained they just decided to give me more. Really, REALLY bad kitchen crew TWICE in a row within a few months time. This place is great and I'll definitely keep coming back for more! I've been to ButtercuP three times so far. Whenever I go in with my family, we're always greeted with friendly smiles and helped right away. There was only one time out of the three we went that we had to wait, but it was only for less than 5 minutes. Keep in mind that we attend in groups of 5+ so it's great that they always seat us right away. The first time didn't wow me too much. I wasn't really a fan of my belgian waffle because it was pretty much flavorless, and I wasn't a fan of my hash browns either. BUT to be fair I don't really like hash browns in general so my opinion on that doesn't count. I did really like the eggs and my drink. It was a cafe mocha which was seriously sooo good that I drank every drop out of the huge glass they put it in. My sister and her son shared the biscuits and sausage gravy, and ended up getting more because apparently they couldn't get enough. I didn't try any because I tend to avoid red meats, but I'll take their word for it. The server was really nice. He had good timing and was very helpful. The second time I went to eat there, I ordered a chicken fried steak with eggs, white toast, and a hot chocolate. The food came out in about 10-15 minutes for our group of 8 and everyone was definitely satisfied this time. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was delicious and so was the chicken fried steak itself. The eggs were as great as expected and the hot chocolate was warm and sweet. Again, our server was very kind, patient, and helpful. We also took two whole pies to go- coconut creme pie and banana creme pie... They were devoured in less than two days... Third time was even better than the first two times. The lady that took our orders was quick and friendly. She knew exactly what to say. The man that brought our food was quiet but kind. He gave us our delicious looking breakfast meals and told us to enjoy. This time, I ordered the chicken apple sausage and eggs with white toast and o'briens because I wanted something light since we would be walking around the rest of the day. Regardless, I didn't get a small meal... A single chicken apple sausage was almost the size of my hand and was pretty thick too. I'm not complaining though because it was amazing and super yummy! Every item I chose was flavorful and satisfying. Needless to say, ButtercuP has won me over. My family and I will always come back whenever we want a quick and appetizing breakfast! This is one of my favorite breakfast places in Concord. Their food is consistently good and their service is excellent too. The servers recognize the regulars and are welcoming to all. I typically get the Extra Omelette, which is delish! Their crispy hash browns are great too. I've had lunch and dinner here as well, and find their salads, sandwiches and burgers are just as good as their breakfast options. Get a slice of their Upside Down Apple Walnut Pie! You won't regret it! All of their servers are great, but ask for Pearl if she's available. She's a kick! This place is definitely worthy of 4 plus stars. read more
