Been coming here for years, and they've never missed. Always consistent, always fire. Never had a bad cheesesteak ever. The Motown Philly? Always a hit. The cheesesteaks are bomb just the way I like them. Now, if you're getting steak fries, do it right order them well done with extra Guylic seasoning. What happened to cheesesteak shop ? The meat is not the same not juicy and tasty like before . The large size is like a small now . Asked for provolone cheese and the cook hardly put any. We ordered two regular size classic phillies. In one word- Bland. The cheddar cheese sauce was minimal, and most of it was on the wrappers and not on the sandwiches. Onions were few and far between. Both sandwiches were crushed on one end. The bread was dry and stale. Very good! I ordered my cheesesteak sandwich (to-go) with just meat and cheese. You can get a five or ten inch sandwich. There was plenty of meat and just the right amount of cheese. The restaurant is a little dated but clean. The guy who took my order was pleasant. Minimal parking in the front which wasn't a problem as I found parking in the front. I used to eat these cheesesteak sandwiches regularly, but that last 2 times ruined it for me. 1st while eating there, sandwich was not tasting great. Opened it up to find lettuce, tomato and mayo...on my cheesesteak!! Nasty. Complained & the girl said she started one type of sandwich & then realized it was just cheesesteak and used the same bun!! I'll just file this one under another guilty pleasure of mine. It wasn't until after I moved back to the Bay Area from Southern California that I tried The Cheese Steak Shop over 20+ years ago. In fact this was the exact location that I tried it for the first time. Since then I've tried several other locations. Food is pretty consistent across the locations I've visited and the service is good. Located off of Clayton Blvd it's on an older strip mall next to a donut shop. Meat, Melted cheese and bread is all it really is however somehow the end result greater than just the sum of its parts. The chopped steak hot off the grill stuffed into a roll on top of melted cheese makes this the King of Sandwiches! Once I crave one, no other place will satisfy my Craving!! We've never been to the actual location and have only got them on door dash but everytime it has been so amazing. I love that they offer half sandwiches too because that's normally all I can eat. The food has gotten so much better! I definitely think who ever cooks the end of the week and weekends than the Monday Tuesday cooks. I will say it's a little over priced but what isn't nowadays. My ONLY complaint is that today I went and I got two sandwiches yhe same sandwich one for my daughter because she doesn't like the peppers only to get in the car and find that there were no peppers on my sandwich either so I went back in and asked for hot peppers only to be told they don't have any. Love the chicken cheesesteaks but wish the sizing was better. I usually get a large but it's too much for me. The regular, which is a half, is laughably small. The large is huge. The need for a medium is real. The photo only looks somewhat decent in size because of all the peppers stuffed in. Finished in about 4-5 bites. Needs to be bigger. The bread is soft and savory, with a slight hint of butter. The meat is tender and seasoned well. When both are topped with melty gooey cheese, grilled onions, and tangy sweet peppers it's pure perfection. I ordered the large classic and couldn't believe how big the thing was. I found the meat to bread ratio to be on point. I also shared a Philly salad with chicken and I was blown away by the quality. Leafy greens and arugula, topped with tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, and cheesy tender chicken. I don't do fast food and had been trying to figure out what I could pick up for dinner in a bit of a hurry and not break the bank. I am so glad the cheese steak shop is here. I wanted a Philly cheesesteak sandwich so I normally go to the Oakland location but because I live in Concord I wanted to try Clayton. The fries tasted as if they were cooked in old oil they were brown with residue on it. The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was dry and was not cut all the way down the middle the third of the sandwich was not sliced just dry bread I asked for extra peppers they gave me globs and globs of peppers which they were cold. I went to The Cheese Steak Shop the other day not knowing what to expect. Once I got there I saw the menu and everything looked amazing! I got the King Philly Sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich came out pretty quick, which I was excited about because I was super hungry. It was pretty big with A LOT of cheese, just how I remembered it being made in Philly! The steak fries on the other hand weren't the best, they tasted very plain and could tell they have been frozen for a while. The service itself was decent but the lady at the register seemed to not know exactly what she was doing, but she was super nice.
