I've eaten at this location, Walnut Creek, and Oakland (Broadway). Love Buttercup. I go mostly for lunch or dinner take out or dine in. My family and I were one of the first customers at the Concord location and we waited about 2 hours to get our dinner. I can't believe we ever gave them another chance but I'm glad we did. Their pancakes are ok but I've had better. I really love their blackened chicken fettuccine, fried chicken plate, and chicken parmigiana. I give 3 stars to all 3 locations. read more

The only reason why this isn't a 2 star rating is because the Mimosas were tasty.. Unfortunately Mimosas ended up being my breakfast. My family and I woke up and decided to go have a nice family breakfast. Of all places that crossed our minds.. Buttercup, haven't been there in a while and it was delicious last time we were.. ugggh. My son ordered mozzarella sticks and a salad. My husband ordered the mixed grill sausage and eggs (over easy.) I ordered huevos rancheros (as per the description in the menu, eggs are cooked over medium- perfect, sounded delicious. My son's food came first which is fine, we told him to get started. The waitress came back and said they made my husband's eggs over hard and it would be a couple of minutes, ok cool, glad they caught it before he did. They bring both of our plates and I'm ready to dig in since this was the first time ordering huevos rancheros there. Boy, did my excitement quickly come to an abrupt halt.. I make the first cut into my food only to discover my eggs are over hard.. No!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so sad. By the time I could get the waitresses attention to show her my husband well into his meal. I love this place. It is great when you want something delicious and reasonably priced. We tend to go there once a week or so on average. Usually for breakfast or dinner, sometimes for lunch. Their French toast special is one of my favorite breakfasts to order there, as they do French toast how I think it should be done. The wait staff is very friendly, and have in my experience always been diligent in making sure everybody is well taken care of. Same goes for the managers & owners of the place. We dine there often enough that they recognize us when we come in, so it is always nice to be greeted like they are happy to see you. I am kind of sad that Pearl has changed her shift to where we don't see her as often as we used to. She is one of the characters of that place that makes it a fun experience. I know a lot of people have been 'turned off' by her demeanor, but I love it! But in spite of that, we still have friendly staff when we are there. read more

The only reason I gave it 1 star, is because you can't give it any less! I will never go to this restaurant again! Last night I went and ordered a hamburger and asked for it well done. When my burger came it was burnt beyond being edible. The whole burger with grill lines was burnt to black charcoal, which was all I could taste. I normally will never send food back, but this time I did and asked for them to cook it medium. Apparently cook didn't appreciate that! I don't know if it was some kind of joke, but the next one came back and was completely raw inside. At this time I just canceled my order while the rest of the table ate. What was even more discouraging is the young waitress seem to get a little laugh when I showed her the next one and refused to eat it. Even the manager when she said, "I don't know what happened, he's usually pretty good at that!".. had a good chuckle in her voice! Whoever is cooking in there has no business being in the kitchen serving customers. And the management sure doesn't seem to care much about what they put out. I've only been to Buttercup on three occasions, but all three times I've been there, I've been met with a friendly staff and great food. On our most recent visit, my girlfriend and I were able to try their Breakfast menu. I ordered the Southwestern Benedict, which had a Poached Egg, Chorizo, O'Brien Potatoes, Bell Peppers, Tomatoes, and Hollandaise Sauce served over an English Muffin; and my girlfriend ordered the Cinnamon French Toast. Their portions are very generous; the Cinnamon French Toast was enough to split between two-people. But the quality of the food was great. Our server was always checking in on us, making sure we had everything we needed. My only gripe is that they don't have a location closer to San Jose. Otherwise, I look forward to my next visit to the East Bay so I can pay Buttercup another visit. read more

I can honestly say I have a great time here and the food is consistently fresh. They ofte have sepecials with local fruit on pancakes or waffles. No where else in concord you can get this! The wait staff is always consistent and often remembers me, my wife and our friends. I come mostly for Breakfast. The sunrise skillet and breakfast burrito (sub bacon for ham) is off the charts!!! The few times we have come in for dinner the food has been great as well. The Chinese chicken salad is awesome. So is the Phili! (curley fries too) The manager Ben and his family are always gracious. Good place for a decent breakfast. But I order the same every time. Bacon, eggs over medium, hash browns, bagel with cream cheese. I am never disappointed with that order. The service is usually quick, the servers are friendly. It's usually clean, but sometimes I do have to get someone to re-wipe down the table. It's a family environment with tables for big groups. It's not my favorite place but it's close to home and decent enough that I keep coming back. Parking is ok, it's in a large enough shipping center for that. All in all, it's good and affordable. Of course I live in Concord, so it's convenient for me. If you come after noon on a weekend, expect some wait time for a table. It gets crowded. read more

My first impression when the plate came out was not good at all, basically resembling a pile of vomit. It literally looked like someone chewed up some food and spit it back out on to the platter. Let me start the review by saying I HATE breakfast, nor do I eat it often. So take that in to consideration when reading the following. From the moment you walk in, you dont feel rushed, you get the sense everything is moving right along. Then once your seated, the feeling returns. The waitress came probably 8 times during my visit, but at perfectly timed intervals. I've been going here once a weekend for "date breakfast" for about 8 months now. My weekend is not complete without a stop here. The waitstaff is above-average friendly. The menu is large and while not the least expensive breakfast spot, I always seem to have enough for a 2nd meal...coffee is good. Pies are legit, too. Coconut Shrimp was the best I have experienced. Large shrimp that were butterflied and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of coconut. The marmalade dipping sauce was authentic. Served with 2 sides rounded out the gourmet repast. The restaurant has improved over the years and is our go to neighborhood restaurant. One suggestion is that the salads could be colder. As it's real close to our house, we've been here a few times for dinner in the past, but we've never had anything that we enjoyed. Their Bleu Burger (that's French for blue) has something they call "bleu cheese butter" on it which hardly tastes of blue cheese at all, and seems like an attempt to spin out the expensive blue cheese by mixing it with yoghurt or whatever. We want REAL blue cheese (even just sprinkles) on our bleu burger; maybe even bacon too. Our son had a plain burger and he said it tasted burnt and wouldn't eat it (and he loves burgers). Fish and chips? Yes, there was lots of fish but it had a thick, chewy batter and the fish inside was gray and nasty (certainly not cod or haddock). What else... yes, the draft beer tastes like it's been watered down to me (and I really know my beer and ale). One time I asked for a Scotch and Seven Up, no ice, and it came in a full pint glass FFS!!? I said, no, it's supposed to come in a small glass. So... off the Mexican server lady went and brought me my drink in a rocks glass. Hmm... that's better, I thought. Until I took a sip that was... she'd obviously just taken the contents of the pint glass (I'm guessing 2% Scotch and 98% Seven Up) and poured some of it into a rocks glass, as it was as weak as water. I guess the bar tender had phoned in sick that night... Service? I don't know if she's still there, but they had this black lady server who was pleasant enough, but her finger nails were inches long; that's got to contravene some health regulation! All that said, Buttercup seems to be quite popular, especially with old folks. Maybe they do a senior discount, or maybe it's just that old folks were brought up on plain food that wasn't very good!? Stopped here on a Saturday morning. Clean place. Quick service. Kind of like an upscale IHop but with more variety in the menu. I ordered the Sunrise Skillet. It was was a little on the bland side. I had to use Tobasco sauce to add a little flavor to it. (Not something I usually do.) I was disappointed in the dish because it was a house special which usually implies it's good. Came to visit family and saw this place was recommended so I gave it a try. On a Tuesday afternoon we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. We were then offered drinks to get a glass with lipstick on it. Disgusting!! Then we placed our order and it took about another 30-40 minutes to get. Our server forgot our toast and our hot water for our tea and another glass of water. She never checked on us to see how we were doing and the food was not nearly as good as reviewed. Instead of the family breakfast I received an individual one instead. I ordered through Door Dash. The manager of the restaurant immediately private messaged me and was very sorry this mistake happened and immediately sent me a gift card to the restaurant to make up for the cost of the family breakfast I lost out on. It is so nice to know that this restaurant really cares about its customers. Buttercup still has one of my favorite breakfasts!!!!! I love, love, love, their banana walnut French toast. I was there a few days ago and got that as a combo with sausage and eggs, yummy. My husband and parents loved their omelettes too, but, their only complaint was that they were so cheap with the avocado, one sliver each for the Daniel B and the Extra. I love buttercup. We here for my Fiance group party, about 35 of us, planned over 2 months ago, they knew what we were eating and how many was eating what, we get there at 5, they didn't start serving til 6:15pm, they brought out the salad no dressing, no salt & pepper on the tables, very thin napkins, they finally bring out the salad dressing (salad is warm now), finished our salad, now they bring out the bread & butter, butter was so cold, you couldn't spread it on the bread. 20 minutes later, they start serving dinner, I had prime rib, in which I was served last because she forgot. No horseradish, no beef broth (because that's what it taste like), the meat had no seasoning. This might be a good restaurant for everyday eating, but not for big parties read more

In an almost-empty restaurant at about 8:30 on a weekday morning, it took forever to get two omelets. (Maybe the cooking staff had to make a run to the feed store up the street to purchase chicks, and grow them into hens capable of laying eggs?) Though the waiter comped us a piece of coffee cake. Which was icky-sweet and greasy; one bite was enough. Denver omelet and homefries both pretty greasy; ate about half. Part of what I ate went right through me. The rest sat like a lump of lead in my stomach for two hours. I felt so bad I that I needed to lie down until the worst of it wore off. Luckily, friend liked his breakfast OK. Had never been to this cafe before, and I will not be going back. One star for the food, three stars for the service. I've had to revise this. I give the food a zero. Brought home the uneaten part of my omelet and it's just plain revolting. Took one bite, and the rest went into the trash. I'm not an especially picky eater, though I do go for fresh ingredients. This omelet just tastes "off." And it's pretty hard to screw up an omelet. The coffee was ok, though not as hot as it should have been. And it takes real "skills" to screw up Peerless coffee! 6/17/17 Service * Food *** Our party of 6 were served by Luis this morning and couldn't be more disappointed with his inability to gauge the group by calling everyone amigo and speaking to some in Spanish because of his ethnic impression of the group. O ly two of us actually speak Spanish. He sometimes rattled iff complete phrases to non-Spanish speaking persons. In fact, only one person actually spoke/replied in Spanish because their Spanish speaking ability was above average. So, if you've ever felt you were being profiled by other ethnic groups - it could happen from ypur own. Luis never came back to refill during the meal only towards the end and never offered jelly or jam to the table to accompany the toast. He also brought a verry sloppy plate of O'Brien potatoes that were refused - he never offered a different plate of those same potatoes. He clearly could use some training. read more
