Well, they are and they aren't. if you have visited a couple of car dealerships and you are sick of talking to salespeople you can enter the car you want online and have it delivered. If you have some questions, and aren't sure if you can get the trim line you want without the extra this and that, they can help with that too. We had figured out what we wanted, but had a couple of short phone conversations to make sure we got what we wanted. A few hours later a deal sheet appeared with a good price. we ok'd and the car was at our door the next afternoon. Chris, who delivered the car stepped us through all the necessary controls and we did the paperwork in less than 15 minutes. We used Roadster to sell a car, not buy a car. The best thing was how frictionless the transaction was, quick to set up on the website, easy to upload photos. Everything happened faster than the website said it would take, start to finish was four business days, could have been three but I needed the car one more day. Guy that picked up the car was professional and had all the paperwork ready. Processed quickly. While I would have loved to get more for the car, it was fairly old and Roadster did pay 30% more than the dealer would for a trade-in. I don't know about the buying end but if it's anything like selling, it's going to be a great experience! read more

Disappointed in my Roadster experience. I was in the market for a new car and signed up for Roadster to take the headache out of negotiating with all of the local dealers. I was hoping for a meaningful reduction in MSRP and a professional approach. Things started out great, and the interface is slick, but can't say much positive other than that. I got my deal sheet back relatively quickly, but it seemed like there was barely any effort placed into negotiating the best price. There was a flat $400 off of MSRP and in addition, the emails back and forth between my rep lacked basic courtesy I expected in a professional service, such as addressing me by name, capitalization and a meaningful conversation about next steps. I cancelled the service, tried Carjojo and absolutely loved it. In one day they went above and beyond and I got the car Roadster quoted for over $1k less. Drove my brand spanking new car home yesterday. Roadster has potential, but my experience felt more like they were relying on me to have no idea and just not want a headache vs. actually wanting to get the best price. read more

Even though I wasn't buying or leasing a car from Chris, he still went out of his way to find dealers and got me a very decent purchase offer on my Infiniti. This was a whole new level of experience buying a car. I was looking for a car (audi a5 sportback) that didn't have much inventory in the bay area (was looking for most base model and dealers have inventory full of useless options only). Chris helped me find it from Southern california with a perfect combination of options (minimal), got a great deal (I don't think I could have gotten that price if I had to deal with dealers directly), and also handled my trade in. After my experience with Roadster, particularly Chris, I would never buy a car directly from a dealer again. I've been looking to own a Porsche for quite some time, but the dealership experience has been particularly difficult as they have limited allocation and are rarely discounted. After talking to 5 different dealerships in the Bay Area, I was not able to make a deal and was quoted inflated APR's for financing and Money Factor when leasing. After working with Chris, he was able to negotiate a good discount off MSRP and an honest interest rate. Warning: This might be a long review(because this company is awesome) I am not sure where to begin. But I can say that buying or leasing a car should be easy AND involve minimal stress. This is what this company offers. You go to the website, pick your car, customize it then place the order. After that's done, they contact you and get your general information. When that's done, one of their agents contact you. The person who contacted me was none other than Chris. He's a rock star in my book, especially having to deal with me. Despite him being so busy, he was very patient with me and tried his hardest to find what I wanted(leasing a toyota highlander). It was slim pickings but he managed to find something. The whole ordering process was super easy and painless.. done mostly electronically(man, tech has seen leaps and bounds over the years). The final price and lease deal was so good! No one could have beat it for such a popular car. Prices included all fees and other garbage that can stress you out, so no surprises. Once the car was ready, he personally delivered the car to my house. I did all the paperwork right in my garage on top of my garbage bins(i was in a rush)lol. There was a calmness about the whole thing that made me feel good about the whole deal. And people who know me, know I stress out easily with these situations. Paperwork literally took less than 10 minutes. After that, we chatted for a bit about my motorcycle until the Uber car came. After that, it was all done and I had my new car. He would have shown me how use the car but I was in a rush(like I said earlier). Why can't all car buying experiences be like this?! I can spend countless days or weeks playing dealers against one another via email or phone, then go to the dealership to be messed with by the typical car salesperson playing hide the ball for any number of hours, then be sent to the finance manager who, no matter what I say, will try to extract from me every dime I negotiated in car "savings" over the aforementioned days or weeks, and finally, after reaching near exhaustion and in a full state of "hangry", I get to drive my new vehicle home. Or, I can go on my laptop or cell phone and use Roadster to choose the exact vehicle I want, have a knowledgeable personal concierge find my vehicle at the best price in a totally transparent business transaction where everyone gets their bite at the apple, and have it delivered to me for a 15-minute "signing ceremony" plus a tutorial. For $295? Hmm, let me think. Done. Roadster? Yepster! And for the vast majority of us for whom the fear of the car dealership experience is right up there with the fear of death and public speaking, we can only hope that this wonderful concept and company become the new normal, or at least a viable alternative to the traditional and silly hand to hand combat involved in a new car purchase. I hate anything to do with getting a car. I've had a few cars in my life prior to moving to San Francisco, from dealerships or private sellers. I abhor haggling or shopping around for a car. It's so stressful and makes me anxious. And since I didn't have a car but live in San Francisco, I would have needed to rent a car or bother friends to drive me from dealership to dealership in the Bay Area an effort to find a good deal. I didn't have time for or any desire to do all of that, but I had been wanting a car for a few months. We recently adopted a dog and suddenly needed a car sooner than anticipated. I found Roadster while looking at dealer reviews on Yelp. From the start, we worked with Chris W. (there are two employees named Chris--the other Chris who we did not meet apparently is just as helpful and awesome as Chris W., per the Yelp reviews). Chris was so great--he provided a deal sheet for the first car we were interested in but he mentioned that it wasn't a very good deal. He then suggested we might be able to get a better deal on a different car and encouraged us to consider other cars--but he didn't suggest a specific car or anything so I never felt like I was being pressured or lured into a deal that benefited Roadster. I am really happy he gave us that advice too. He could have just let us get the more expensive offer, but instead we ended up taking the time to research a little more and ended up choosing a Prius. And it happened to be one of their lease specials for that month, which worked out well. This was my first time leasing, and after explaining how we planned to use the car to Chris, I felt confident that we made the right choice in leasing. So now we have a new car (and since it's a new model, it is our first "new" car!) that was ordered online and delivered to our door--I still can't get over how easy it was to do. The entire user experience of buying a car at Roadster was so delightful and simple. When our lease ends, if we choose to buy a car or lease, I know for sure that I will contact Roadster again. I stumbled upon Roadster by accident. I read the Yelp reviews and gave it a whirl. I was interested in an Audi Q5 and the local dealer was difficult to deal with. The Roadster website was amazing. It showed every Q5 within 500 miles that they had and the discounts offered. No phony add-ons. I worked with Mark Hugret. We presented a deal sheet that listed everything. We walked me through the different options: cash purchase, lease, and finance. He was patient as I changed my mind a few times. I signed the deal sheet and he took care of the financing. I had the car delivered to my work three days later. Paperwork was maybe 5 minutes, not like a dealership which takes hours. While the website design is flawless, the service and quote provided where not. My broker could not give me a quote on a VW Golf with the driver assistance package because "they were very hard to find and in too high demand." However, I searched the VW website and found the car less than 2 miles from my house. The quote Roadster did provide for the car without the driver assistance package, ended up being $2,000 more than I received from the dealer. The quote from the dealer was all on-line as well, with minimal hassle. Signing the paperwork from the dealer took 2 hours, so while the 15 min. it takes to receive the roadster car is much better, I'd rather save $2,000 and go to the dealer. read more

I wanted to buy a car the way I order stuff from Amazon. Roadster came very close. Here's my experience: After deciding on a vehicle, I rented one to make sure I really like it. After that, I decided on color and feature and expected the buying process to be simple. My first try was Consumer Reports' buying service. As much as I like the organization, this did not go as expected: my email (and phone) basically were spammed with messages from dealers with often irrelevant information (like how they offer a great car buying experience). I also did get some offers, but none matched what I wanted and had filled into countless boxes on the Consumer Reports website! A web search pointed me to Roadster on yelp. I must say I was pretty skeptical about the rave reviews but now can confirm that they are right on the mark. After just a couple of days I had a "deal sheet" which is what Roadster calls an offer. From similar (but wrong color, features) offers from dealerships I knew it was competitive and accepted it. A few days later the car was delivered to my home, signed the paperwork (10 minutes of signatures - amazing how much paperwork accompanies buying a vehicle) and was done. Watch out dealerships. They ship the car all the way from SoCal for no charge, wash the car, and Mike gets the car delivered right to my door with documents signed in 10 minutes. No additional 'protection package' solicitation or any price haggling needed. While everyone's experience may vary and certainly the discount of the car varies with make/model, I strongly encourage you to try, at least give Roadster a shot. So the reviews are correct, this place is excellent! Mike delivered my new Mazda to me yesterday afternoon and he was awesome. Super professional and nice. The whole delivery process took about 30 mins, and then off he went, and into my new car I went. Kim H was my concierge and she was fantastic. Finalizing the deal on my car took a little longer than I expected (probably about a week total), mainly because Kim was waiting to hear back from the dealer who was quite a distance away. But the whole process was completely painless and I did it all from my computer. FYI you can email Kim almost 24/7 and she will typically get back to you in an hour. She's really communicative, which is quite refreshing. I highly recommend Roaster if you want someone to hand deliver your car to you without any hassle whatsoever.
