He's patient, honest, and always happy to share his knowledge - exactly the traits you'd want in a card shop owner. He's upfront and transparent about his prices when he's buying/selling cards, and makes sure people leave knowing how to check fair market values for themselves. Found this gem of a local card and game shop while searching on Yelp because I wanted to get my son started with card collecting. I used to collect sports cards growing up and had a Pokémon collection as a kid too, which I sadly sold at a garage sale before I knew any better. As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted by the owner and his wife. Even with the holiday weekend keeping them busy they were super welcoming and took time to walk us through the store, explain how they price things, and answer our questions. First time shoppers also get a cool Pokémon pin which my son loved, and he picked one out for his sister too. Make sure to signup for their newsletter as they have a nice little $5 promotion too! Great selection if you're into Pokémon--from packs to slabs to singles. They also had a solid variety of video games and consoles from vintage to newer stuff. I had fun digging through the sports card boxes too, just wish there were a few more to look through. Best part was my son had such a fun experience. We opened packs together and put his cards into a binder we bought there. Definitely felt like a core memory for both of us. Would definitely recommend if you want to support a local shop. This place is a dream come true! Brandon was an absolute joy to be around and my first time here, I was given a tour of their shop! I don't think I have ever experienced a place like this, friendly and knowledgable people with a great environment. They had everything, old school video games, Pokemon trading cards, a shelf full of binders with various TCGs and the whole place felt incredibly home-y.I will always recommend BWest Collectibles to anyone who wants to go to a card shop in the East Bay area. Fantastic service and experience~!!! Came in today and met a gentleman, though not having to much knowledge of instant-product pricing for example, prices of higher tier cards but that was just a thing thats easy to improve. I came in and purchased a prismatic evolutions 8 pack costco mini tins ( with all the promos) as well as a pack of steam siege. All products were above market price a little for the 8 pack tin market being 270 while them charging 300, meanwhile they were very flexible and always wanted to check prices I felt something was a little over which is suprising as they are not an official shop. As I went home I opened the pack of steam siege and I felt it was reasealed ( IT WAS NOT!! REALEASED) and I pulled one of the higher tier hits. As I opened the tines from the 8 pack on the third I pulled a demi god-pack including sylveon,umbreon, and espeon this will hands down be my go to card shop anytime I visit the bay best shop ever read more

Absolutely amazing Mom & Pop shop run by Brandon and his extremely kind and knowledgeable team. I called before going and was given a small rundown of the shop. After, I arrived to the store front, was greeted by Adam, and shown where everything was at in its place, from ETBs, boosters of multiple series and languages, and of of the most well organized binder and singles collection, not to mention the entire arcade portion of the store that holds game titles like Xbox, PS1, and Gameboy! They even have a friendly, weekly TCG night for collectors and trainers to come together and battle using personal, or provided rental decks!! As a new trainer, this store has got to be one my favorites for the collection, prices, and experience! read more

I was greeted as I walked in and asked how I could be assisted. Usually, when this customary greeting and query is conveyed, the forced inflection is obvious, leaving one to wonder why, if unhappy with their employ, they remain in it; this however, was not the case with Brandon, who, I sensed, really enjoyed meeting people irrespective of common interests and showcasing his considerable knowledge and understanding of the patterns in pricing and the driving mechanism behind the sales value of sports cards. I went there to sell some baseball cards and walked out of there edified -- I got schooled instead. But I could not be happier about it, for the process by which I, and apparently many others, gage the value of our cards, coins or what have you, is faulty and can lead to frustration and disappointment because you believe that, unlike others with the same items, you are not getting the supposed value of your precious items. Not only did Brandon take the time to explain the process by which we dupe ourselves into thinking we have that special card and will amass quite the premium for it, but demonstrated the process for me in real time. What he showed me was precisely what I did, and was doing, in assessing the worth of my saleable items. I walked out of his pretty snappy business educated and less frustrated. It made sense, and I can now approach my vocation with a different methodology in assessing the value and expected sale price of my coveted coins, ect. I am grateful for Brandon and his store, for at 60 years old, I got schooled. The store itself was stocked with the kind of things gamers fantasize about, and while there, the customers kept coming. This business is obviously doing things the correct way and the store's popularity is testimonial of that. For my part, I always lean toward doing business with the genuine proprietor, even if it means going out of my way a bit to give them my business. I recommend this store for the products available as well as for the pleasant people there operating it. Stopped by for the first time on Friday and the customer service was excellent as they were attentive and explained everything they had in store and asked if I needed anything. The selection ranges from Pokemon TCG, and retro video games. They have their product price relatively to the market and I have a binder for Pokemon cards under $8 and most of their cards are priced. I picked up 2 packs of the new Black and White set and a really cool Noivern full set. Definitely will be back! read more

I asked Brandon if the games could be tested before purchasing and he said absolutely. After selecting a few games I then waited 20 mins to test for Brandon's attention, he was occupied with Pokemon. When he got around to me he told me that he wasn't able test to because he's too busy. I also inquired about a PS2 controller and was informed that he only had one left and that it was tested and working controller. However, upon returning home, I discovered that the controller was not fully functional. I returned to the shop to return it however he went through another box and found a functional controller. I asked if someone just sold him the controller and he said that he remembered there were more controllers in the box. Consequently, a significant amount of time was spent attempting to test the games and exchanging a faulty controller. **Yes it was at your shop in Castro Valley. The shop that is in a garage. I also have proof of purchase. Def sold me a faulty ps2 controller then I had to exchange for a functional one. **Response #2: I responded to your response to my initial review, did not edit the original. In my original post I wrote that you said that the controller was working and that you said you only had one remaining. I found that the controller to be faulty when I got home. I don't live in Castro Valley and had to return to your store initially for a refund however you said you had more controllers in a different box and exchanged it. I gave you two stars because 1) I had to wait 20 mins for you to talk to me 2) you said I can test the games then later said you were too busy so we couldn't test. You were also too busy to test the faulty controller you sold me. 3) sold me a faulty controller after saying it was the last one and that it was working. I had to take time and gas to return to your store to find out you had other working controllers. read more
