When people say Memphis is underrated, this is exactly the kind of place they're talking about. This stumble-upon-it neighborhood cafe makes it feel like a local secret. The space is perfect for eating alone, as a couple or a small group. After you order, you make your own coffee or tea. It's so good! This place delivers on both cozy atmosphere and delicious breakfast/brunch experience. Whether you're planning a quick meal to-go or want to lounge for a lazy breakfast, this is your spot! We were both satisfied. Note: Though you make your own drinks, do not touch the to-go containers or you will get scolded. ‍

We did a long walk down the Riverwalk and ended up here unfortunately right before they closed, but we orders really fast and they were very gracious and let us quickly enjoy our food. We had a biscuit with sausage gravy, the traditional sausage/egg/cheese biscuit breakfast sandwich and a side of the smashed potatoes. The inside of the restaurant is so cute and bright and they have plenty of outdoor seating as well. Both the ladies working were very nice and you can tell it's the perfect neighborhood spot. The biscuits were so buttery and fresh and perfectly baked. We would definitely come back (and at a better time!)

We had a great experience, The food here is pretty good. The Tennessee Street Biscuit (The Chicken and Biscuits) was awesome w/ the honey, cheese, and eggs added. My husband had the Brisket Biscuit, it's also very delicious. We added the Smashed Browns and Gouda Grits for sides, the Smashed Browns was of course my other favorite. The food is very flavorful and service was great as well. Staff here is extremely friendly and made great recommendations too. Don't let appearances fool you--the decor may be divey, and small but the food here is fantastic. This place is perfect for brunch or a casual morning breakfast. This place is a must try if you are ever in Downtown Memphis , I know I'll certainly be back again again to try something different each time ...

Cute little brunch spot near the riverwalk in Downtown Memphis! We tried a variety of their biscuit sandwiches and all were delicious (if a little crumbly). I loved their serve-yourself coffee bar with syrups, sugar, and milks. Their outdoor patio is the perfect place to sit and enjoy a nice Saturday morning

Food was pretty good... we had no real complaints. It's pretty much a self waiting place. You place your order at the kiosk with the server and then you tend to your own drink. They have coffee, teas and soft drinks available in a fridge near the front. Service was pretty quick. We came in on a whim with my parents. We all enjoyed our food. We didn't have any complaints beyond them being out of a few things. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. The place is cozy and clean with good offerings.

Great southern-style food! Got to talk to the owner, and learned a lot about the cafe and the area. Everyone (staff and patrons) was so friendly, and the space is beautiful. Will definitely be back!

I was seeking out a healthy and filling breakfast and I found the perfect spot. The Avocado Toasted is "thicc & tasty" with ample amounts of avocado, arugula, tomato, and an "egg in basket" on some premium bread.

Cute little eatery in what seems like an up-and-coming busy area. We weren't sure where exactly the Yelp directions were taking us but the walk wasn't unsafe or off putting. We were fine walking around getting to and from here on foot. Staff were helpful, attentive and super friendly. Cashier provided her recommendations and we ordered exactly what she stated was their go-to must try items. Though they were good at first, the more we kept biting into our dishes, the saltier they were. I Couldn't finish mine. Made me upset a bit since I don't like wasting food or money but I did my best to eat as much as I could but every layer of the sandwich was coated in salt. Coated.

Great place to mingle and get a fresh variety of breakfast and brunch options with a hint of organic-y. Background music, very pleasurable staff and decor is refreshing.

By the Brewery is a new South Main staple that I'd recommend anyone try for breakfast or lunch. The gardeny urban atmosphere really worked for me, with cool terrariums and wall art decorating the place. Theres also a healthy variety of biscuits, tamales, yogurt, and other delicious items to choose from. The service was super quick too and they have really friendly staff.

This hidden eclectic restaurant makes me happy! It is such a quaint restaurant downtown located near the Riverwalk. It is one of my fav places to dine. The coffee is bold and strong. It is roasted through J Brooks. So so smooth. The food is very tasty and incredibly flavorful. I ordered the grit cake biscuit sandwich. Yummy for my tummy! I need to branch out next time since I did order that last time. It was so good. The place has so many options. Pleasantly surprised they have many gluten free foods for my niece. It is always a plus. Here are some photos from my niece. I forgot to take pics of my food. I was hungry! Tee hee hee.

Spent my Saturday at By the Brewery located downtown Memphis. I ordered the Avocado Toasted "egg in hole". It was loaded with avocado spread, spinach, tomatoes and don't forget the egg. I also had a side of fruit which was delicious. The customer service was okay, it could've been better. The waiter did inform me about customers favorites and gave me a quick run down on the menu. By the Brewery is spacious, kid friendly and it's not too far from the River Front and Tom Lee Park.

An absolute must try if you've never been. The biscuits are so strange but are delicious and cooked to perfection. My breakfast sandwich was phenomenal and filling, I got a side of fruit to go with it. We sat outside because we had our dog with us - but there are tables indoor and it's a small intimate setting. Parking is super limited - we walked there.

Sunrise Memphis did not disappoint. We stopped in around 12:30 p.m. on a Wednesday and didn't experience any crowds or much of a lunch rush. That being said, after eating here, I completely understand why people mention waiting hours on weekends. The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here.

I had a fantastic espresso martini and the best brussel sprouts I've ever tasted! So I was excited to come try something else. On the plus side, the bathroom was so nicely decorated. It was also very clean. I sat at the end of the bar, beside the little section of books. The bartender was nice. I ordered the Ember&Passion cocktail. Although it was pretty good, it was quite mild. Unexpected with the ingredients in it. I was surprised that the level of expected heat was not very detectable. I give it 7/10. When I came here before in the winter, the temperature was perfect and I don't remember being too bothered that they don't have cocktail napkins. But yesterday it was quite warm in the restaurant and not having these napkins wasn't good. Nobody in the restaurant had any type of napkin under any drink! I noticed that just like mine, every glass of water from every patron had a puddle of condensation under the glass. Each time I picked up my glass of water, it would drip onto my food and clothes. My two menus got so wet. I suppose they made this decision to save themselves a lot of money. As for the food: My parmesan truffle fries were excellent!! Hot, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked in the middle. Best I've had in a long time. The Alabama white sauce on the side was just your typical sauce. It tasted just like every other Alabama white sauce that I've had so was not disappointing. But I actually ended up not using it because it was too thin and it didn't add anything to the fries. The fries were excellent enough on their own. I ordered my burger "pink" but there wasn't any pink to it, but I wasn't that bothered about it. Burger and the toppings were tasty, except for the fried green tomato. Looking closely at the picture, you can see that it was SO SMALL compared to the size of the burger. When a restaurant does that, don't they realize that it makes for a glaring disappointment?! It apparently came from near the end of the tomato, and not the middle. If you are going to offer a fried green tomato on a burger, then I feel as if you should only use the larger slices of the tomato, and save the smaller ends for maybe putting in salads. I've always been obsessed with fried green tomatoes. After having my first two bites of burger and still not reaching the tomato, I took it off to eat by itself. Sadly, it tasted terrible! I was surprised. Obviously, they didn't season the tomato or the batter. (Salt and pepper go a long way.) The burger toppings apparently made the tomato batter not only soggy, but also this strange thick texture. Like mushy and chewy at the same time. 1/10 Worst problem: FLIES!!! So many flies! When I just had my drink but no food yet, I noticed them but was not bombarded by them at that point. It wasn't until my food came. All of a sudden I was literally surrounded by them. They were everywhere! No exaggeration. I actually had to use only one hand to eat and the other hand to constantly move back and forth over my food. I eventually gave up and set the plate of some of my fries about 4 inches in front of my burger in order to hopefully draw the flies to the fries so that I could eat my burger. Unfortunately, after only four bites of my burger, when I set it down to take a drink of water, a fly landed on it within one second. Obviously, that was my last bite, and even when I was moving the plate closer to the end of the counter, two more flies landed on it. The glass of straws was inches from me. That, and the book closest to me seemed to be where they gathered to wait for their opportunity to dive bomb me. So many of them! It turned my stomach when I realized that I had been drinking from a straw with my water and I'm sure there had been flies on it before I got there. Every person that gets a straw in their drink at this restaurant has had a fly sitting on top of it. When the bartender told me about the desserts, it turned my stomach to think of just how many flies were in the kitchen. Had I known the fly situation was that bad when I first got my drink, I would have never stayed there, and I certainly would have never ordered food. I do think it is a real shame because the winter months are a totally different experience in that restaurant. But because of how horrible it was this time, I just can't ever come back.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!
