I've been meaning to eat here for awhile now and finally found some time tonight...so glad I did! The meal started off with a cup of French onion soup, which was a nice surprise on such a cold night but apparently included with my meal. This came with some warm bread, which was okay but not that memorable. Next came a salad with the house blue cheese dressing. The dressing was incredibly thick and pungent, just the way it ought to be. Next I ordered the special, a 7 oz chipotle glazed filet mignon with a baked potato. I paired the steak with a nice red blend and what a great combination! The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and was incredibly tender. The quality of the meat was top notch and the plate came with a fruit relish, which added hint of sweetness to the meal. The waitress was on top of her game too. She was attentive but not overbearing and made sure my glass was never empty. An overall very enjoyable experience and a solid restaurant. read more

If you don't have a neck tattoo, you might feel out of place here. I went with some friends, one of whom was a long time worker there many years ago, and we were all really disappointed by the experience. Three out of seven of us sent our meat back because the 32 ounce prime rib was too tough to cut up and my steak Diane was ordered medium rare but served seared on the outside? Wasn't cooked it all. Went in hopes of a top notch steak, and was not disappointed! It was a toss-up between the 32 oz bone in prime rib and the ribeye. We ordered both - they were both excellent. We had enough prime rib left over for dinner the next day for our family of 4! Best onion soup I've ever had! read more

I would like to start by saying that I have wanted to try Bynum Steakhouse for years. I remember passing it every day on my commute from Greenwood to downtown. We eat there about once every two months. We travel the US quite a bit and eat at high end restaurants in many cities. No one can beat the prime rib at Bynum's Steakhouse. We always have great service. My wife usually gets what ever is on special and is never disappointed. Bring your appetite. If you are looking for a cheap meal head for Ponderosa. i had the pleasure of visiting bynum's again this year on my annual holiday visit to indy. This place is a real gem. Some of the best prime rib i've had, and i've had it pretty much all over. Great service at a good old fashioned steak house. couple of notes - 1-wine list has average wine but it is all reasonably priced on the upside. 2-don't go expecting a ruth's chris type of experience. this is an old family steakhouse. keep that in mind, and you'll be happy. read more

Not much to say about this place at all. Will never try again. Waiter wasnt that great either. Food was horrible and way to pricey. Got my food 45 mins after we had ordered. My wife was still waiting on hers. Couldnt even eat mine because it was so dry and flavorless. She finally got hers and we just got a to go box and left. read more

My husband and I drove 40 minutes to go to Bynum's last Friday for a groupon we purchased. We sat down and got ready to order and I told them we had a groupon that stated $35 for value of $50 to use on anything on the menu, including beverages. We decided we are going to share the yummy looking prime rib and the waitress informs us that the groupon requires that you order 2 entree's (which an entree is a minimum of $20 or higher). I point out that this is not listed on the groupon as advertised nor in the fine print and the server says that they are covered under "restrictions can be applied." I explain that is a big "restriction" and ask for the manager. We wait for about 15 minutes and the server comes over and says the manager is busy and that she would say the same thing that the server said. I then ask if we can wait for the manager and the servers says she is not going to come over but can ask her again if we like but was pretty adamant about not coming over. I then asked for the general manager and the server said that was the manager she talked too. We were so appalled at the lack of customer service that we walked out. I worked in the restaurant business for 8 years and am now in the customer service industry and could not believe that the manager couldn't even come over. I wouldn't even recommend my worst enemy to go there because if they treat me like this who is to say how they treat others. Not only did they completely change what they advertised on groupon but terrible customer service on top of it. read more

The last time I ate at Bynum's I'm pretty sure the internet was a figment of someones imagination. I stopped in on a whim one Tuesday evening around 7 PM. I was a little concerned at first with only 2 cars in the lot. But thankfully the flashing OPEN sign let me know they were simply slow that Tue evening. I knew what I wanted, steak, a big one. I chose the Bone In Ribeye cooked medium rare. Baked potato butter & sour cream. Salad blu cheese. Meal was served with a hearty loaf of warm bread which was delicious. Full disclosure however I am a sucker for warm bread and butter. Also, meals come with onion soup. Not French onion. I prefer the French version but I do like the old fashioned way as well. This one was hot had a fresh taste. The salad came with blu cheese crumbles and the blu cheese dressing was delicious. I'm not a salad snob by no means. Give me iceberg lettuce a few cut up veggies, homemade dressing, crumbles and serve it on a ice cold metal plate and I'm more than satisfied. Finally the main course. The ribeye filled the plate and was beautifully cooked. The outside lacked a nice crust but inside the meat was cooked perfect. Typically a med-rare steak with have a good amount of juices but not this one for some reason. If it were cooked any longer then to med-rare it would have been dry. It had a good taste but not fantastic as one would expect from a $29 steak. The baked potato was delicious and I devoured it all including the salty crusted skin. I left no room for dessert but I left full and equally satisfied. I drank water and total bill was $31. This place has been around for yrs and I remember eating here many times with the parents. I will go back again and probably soon. Their specialty is Prime Rib and it's been a long while since Mr. Rib and I have had a sit down. read more

Wish I could give it zero stars.First of all, after making a reservation we were seated late. We were sitting cramped in the waiting area with four other families, and still ended up seated by the restrooms, under the darkest light ever. Also we were forced to sit at a table made for two very thin midgets. I'm 5'2 and felt like a giant. Then we ordered our drinks and the waitress who took our drink order was very friendly, honestly the only reason I would give one star. Then we got an appetizer order and we were delivered five tater tots for a family of four for $11. We ordered them assuming we would get either $11 worth or an even number. There was more parsley than appetizer. And we never saw the waitress who served us our tater totish things. They tasted good but I would have paid at most $3 and that's only for labor. This waitress who seemed pissed off and rushed and skipped my mother. We ordered three medium steaks and a medium rare. After getting soup described in the menu as onion soup, and described by a waitress as French onion I was looking forward to trying something new. The cheese was on the bottom which is not where it goes in French onion soup. And then my dad got beef broth and cheese and I got an entire freakin onion, not chopped just kinda ripped, so I gave my father half the onions and still just had onion. The chicken noodle soup tasted like cheap canned food drive soup. Then we got the "garden salad" that more than likely came out of a bag. The lettuce was about the size of the cup that my soup came in. And the ranch that they claim was homemade tasted like it came out of the bottle. And the Italian dressing was separating. Then we finally got our main course, which we were quite excited considering the price, especially the steaks. We got four steaks, three sirloins and a NY strip, as well as three loaded baked potatoes and steak fries. Let's start with the sides. The steak fries, pretty sure I've eaten those out of a bag from the Kroger frozen section. The loaded baked potatoes didn't have butter in them and the cheese and bacon were like a crust that didn't quite meet the expectations of an extra $2. And then there was the weird jam stuff that no one told us what it was, it was red and sweet and honestly almost as big as my steak with a piece of lettuce sized parsley. And now the steaks. The NY strip was expected to be medium which was defined in their menus that they've had since 1980 as having a warm pink center. Instead it was pretty much straight from the cow, and thrown on the grill to cook the moo out of it. I was sitting there thinking about how the steak was redder than the "homemade ketchup" from Sysco. The steaks were cold. And they kinda tasted like Walmart. I was expecting a giant ass steak or the best quality sirloin I have ever had for paying $24 for 8 oz steak with one side, some disappointing soup, cheap packaged salad, and bread that also I believe can be found a couple sections down from the fries at Kroger. When we asked for "warm bread" it was cold. I was pretty excited about bread. It was pretty terrible. Then they checked on us like once, and really only to see how low our cups were and to try and sell us another beer. Then when brought to the waitress' attention that the steak was raw and pretty much ready to go back to the farm, she said oh that's not our medium here, and then asked if even though we were all pretty much done, if we wanted it thrown back on the grill, instead of replacing an incorrect order. And the cost was not discounted or removed despite the fact that the medium steak was raw and over half of the steak was remaining. Then they barely asked us if we wanted dessert before rushing us off, and it took a while to get the foil to wrap up our food. And when wrapping my mother's food, she originally neglected asking if my mom wanted her potato, and since we paid $24 for a tiny steak and a doll sized potato, which was proportionate only to the table, we were definitely taking the potato home. This place was horrible. First, we had to wait at the podium for about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. After we were finally seated (mind you, the restaurant was not very busy), no one came to get our drink order for a good 5 minutes. When we sat down, the booth seats and table were both very wet, and it was quite uncomfortable. We finally got our drinks, and eventually placed our food order. 3 different servers were involved in all these transactions. The entrees came with "house onion soup" and salad. The soup was incredibly salty, and came with gooey, gross cheese at the bottom of the bowl, whereas onion soup traditionally has melted cheese on the top. The salad dressing was decent-homemade ranch-but the measly portion of iceberg lettuce that was partially brown was not impressive. The entrees were mediocre as well, and the broccoli that I ordered as my side was not edible. It was straight mush, with soupy water at the bottom of the bowl and absolutely zero seasoning on it. We finally finished eating, and decided to try dessert (because who can mess up dessert?) afterward. The server in training came to the table and attempted to rattle off the names of the desserts on the tray. I understand she was new, but she could not answer any of our questions and even mispronounced several names. We decided on the cheesecake, which was quite tasty, however was served with a disgusting, large fingerprint right in the middle of the fudge (cooks, please wear gloves-that is disgusting, and a health code violation). We had to take off the top of the cheesecake so as to avoid the gross fingerprint in the cheesecake. We waited for at least another 5 minutes for boxes after we had paid the bill. Oh, and on top of all that, the server in training had the most disgusting hygiene. Her hair was very unkempt and greasy, and she had a large amount of visible dirt under her yellowed nails. Definitely not appetizing. That night after we went to sleep, I woke up 3 times in the middle of the night with extreme stomach pains that led to watery diarrhea and vomit. I do not know if it was actually food poisoning, or if the food just did not agree with my stomach, but I was sick for the first half of the second day as well. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone! Ever. It should probably be closed down for numerous obvious health code violations. read more

We had a bad experience from the moment we entered. I had made a reservation, and went to the hostess to say our name. TWICE she took a phone call, even walked back to kitchen to talk to them, before greeting me. They need to seriously work on their customer service with the customer standing right in front of them. Then, we got seated at a table, and moments later water started dripping on our table from the ceiling (it was raining outside). When we asked to move to another table, they said we had to ask the hostess if it was ok and where to sit and made us feel bad for wanting to move. 80% of the tables were open, and water had been dripping on us. Three other tables got up to move within 10 minutes because of water. Two people dressed in gross clothes (one woman in pajamas!!!!) came to check on he water situation and crawled under the tables to check the wet carpet. This is not appropriate for a restaurant that charges $38-40 for steak. The onion soup tasted good (but cheese was in a lump at bottom of cup instead of melted over the top), bread was good, and salad was ok. My steak came out and was very undercooked. After waiting 15 minutes for the waitress to return, I asked nicely if they could please cook it longer. She was nice and took it, but came back 5 min later to tell me it was cooked properly. Seriously!!! I didn't even initially say it wasn't cooked properly, I just asked for it to please be cooked longer. It was totally rude, and I think the waitress was relaying a message from the kitchen, but it was SO rude. When she said that to me, I gave up. I asked them to keep it because I didn't feel like arguing with them. So, I didn't ever get steak to actually eat. In addition, I ordered mushrooms on top of my steak (menu said $5 for whole mushrooms). I received about 10 slices of mushrooms (maybe 2 mushrooms total) for $5. The service was slow. From start to finish our meal took 2.5 hours (and I never did get to eat my steak). It took almost 20 min to get our wine we ordered. Bar drinks seem to be an issue. Soda and water was brought quickly and refilled as needed. Thankfully, they did remove my steak from the check but I left hungry and since we were from out of town I had to get food from our hotel at 10 pm. Not cool. read more

I have been eating at Bynum's since I was probably 12 years old, it is outdated inside, but that is one thing I like about it, the décor hasn't changed in 33 years. Weekends are very busy, and you can request to be seated away from small kids if you make reservations, as I usually do. Lunch prices are good and food is equally as great as it is for dinner, you definatly get what you pay for, as they give you a lot of food. They will make it right, if that means you don't pay if you are so unsatisfied as some that left reviews say they are. A sirloin is a cheap cut of meat, so again you get what you pay for, I recommend the Filet, it has always been cooked to perfection, and I have never had a bad experience. If in a rush for lunch, you can call ahead and tell them what you what and it will be ready when you tell them you will arrive to sit down and eat, as well they do have carry out, I don't recommend, as it is always better to eat there, to get out of the house. We have had parties there for years or just small gatherings, and I don't know anyone I have been with that was unsatisfied...if you were not happy the 1st time, let management know, they will make it right and give them a second chance, I don't think you will be upset by doing so. By far, this is far better than Ruth Chris, which I thought was very bland and the staff was just rude. Weeknights and lunch is best time for best service as weekends are always packed and they are doing the best they can, so you have to be prepared for that...Again I love this place, it will always be my # 1 favorite place to go, everything from the Filet to the Lobster, and or chicken or a burger, it is a great place with prices you should expect from a steak house... read more
