First time for lunch. I had low expectations based on the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised--it was a good little food stand. My husband and I shared the fried clam platter. He loved the clams! Fries were tasty. Coleslaw was good, but at room temperature, which made us nervous. None of us got sick. Our daughter had the chicken tenders. She said they were good and were real meat (versus pulverized). She said the soft serve dipped cone tasted like childhood. I had the frozen yogurt. It was a bit icy, but I picked an unpopular flavor so it may have been old. Overall, a good experience. Fairly pricey though considering fried clam platter cost the same as the Halibut at Fireside. Tried the new chicken here and was seriously impressed. Both the spicy and non-spicy options were delicious--crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We have been loyal customers of C&L frosty for about 20 years. We have especially liked their BLTs, burgers, steak subs, french fries, and club sandwiches. We are not sea food people and the ice cream, which I'm sure is quite good is too expensive for us. We have seen three new owners and the food quality has been maintained. However, no so for the new owner that currenlty owns the establishment (started Feb/Mar 2025). Our first outing of the year was for our beloved BLTs. The lettuce as low quality and less bacon was used, overall very poor. Our second outing was yesterday for burgers and fries. The burgers were at most warm. They sat on the counter for about 10 mins waiting for fries to be cooked. When I expressed concern over the temp of the of the burgers I was told they would be fine - they weren't, They were dry (no juice) and no taste. The fries were over cooked. (C&L fries were the best in the past). They have replace the help that really knew how to run the place and cook with new help that appear not how to do so. So I'm afraid that C&L is off our list for eating out. A real shame we loved the place read more

We stopped in last evening for two child-size twist cones. There were two of us there and absolutely no one else inside - no other customers. There was one lady outside eating a burger and fries. She was the only other customer there. So obviously - and with some common sense - you can see they weren't busy. We asked the young lady if we could get two child-sized twist cones and she said we would have to go outside and order through the outside window. We said, there's no one else here. Why do we have to go outside? Can't we give our order here? She calmly said "no, we had to go outside to order." We went outside and stood at the window and she asked "what can I get for you?" Ordinary burger, frozen french fries and soda for two will take a big dent out of $40. The food used be good, but the quality has gone down. Teenage kids who work there still seem to be polite, but the grown men (new owners, I presume) are curt to the point of rudeness. Still no toilet facilities. This place is a hidden gem to eat lunch at. The fries were hot, crisp and had good potato flavor. I was pleasantly surprised to find my burger wasn't a frozen patty but a hand formed burger with a good beefy flavor. Bun was just ordinary, but the nice thing was the burger patty was shaped to exactly fit the bun. I hate it when there is a bunch of leftover roll and no burger to go with it! Dropped in today for some ice cream. It was 4:30/5:00 and the place was absolutely empty. Nobody at the tables outside. Nobody at the tables inside. Just a teenage girl waiting for some take out. As a result, service was quick. I saw the menu board - $2.60 for a Kiddie size - which they call Child. My first thought was "reasonable pricing". But then I got handed my kiddie bowl. It was a teeny tiny scoop of ice cream. It looked like it was scooped with a melon baller. I would not call this portion child sized. I'd call it infant sized. I think I finished it in 3 bites. Limited flavor selection. The seasonal flavors are listed on a white board behind the counter. I didn't see the specials until after I paid. The vanilla lacked vanilla flavor. I would have called it "Sweet Cream". The Snickers was chocolate chip ice cream with a caramel swirl. No peanuts to be found. And it was a 60 cent upcharge for jimmies - when the cone was so small that a teaspoon of jimmies covered the ice cream. It wasn't a bad experience. Kids likes their hot dogs. I ordered a Greek salad which consisted of: 1) 2 lbs of iceberg lettuces; 2) 3 kalamata olives; 3) 3 thin slices of red pepper; 4) 3 thin slices of cucumber. I then went ahead and brought it back, asking to have it fixed. They were very accommodating of my request. Unfortunately, the first attempt to fix it appear to be little more than adding a fistful of feta. I asked them to just "add more veggies". On the 3rd attempt, one of the managers handed me the salad and said "next time you come here, you will get what you got before. Not this. You are getting this because you complained." Tone deaf. C&L's has always been expensive but we come here from time to time because we love the nearby park and want to support small businesses. We'll probably come back, but not for food. My advice to C&L, serve food you'd like to eat and would feed your family with. Also, feedback is a gift - instead of lecturing me on how I should order my food next time, understand my complaint and assess whether you're serving a product that delights your customers. To me, this experience tells me C&L is trying to maximize its margin by serving a salad at its lowest cost, not caring if it's of reasonable quality. Try this, make a salad, get feedback, figure out what customers want, serve it, charge for it with the margin you want. Profit comes after giving a great experience. There are pretty much only two or so restaurants in this area, if one works here and needs something quick like lunch, but one time buying it here convinced me to continue bringing mine. Nothing wrong with the food, the service, or the place itself. In fact, it's sort of adorable. There's old school charm galore, like the rickeys or the little order slips they give you. It's not the manufactured, hipster kind--it's real small town charm. On the day I came the elementary had a half day and it was fun to see so many school families stop here for a bite and greet each other so warmly. What really makes this place negative for me is the price. I paid so much more than I wanted to for a plain grilled cheese and a milkshake that filled me up about as much as a small, child sized one-slice-of-cheese sandwich and milkshake can do. I can't believe this place is still around, and find it even weirder that it's actually listed on Yelp. This was my hometown, side-of-the-road, only-open-in-the-summer-months burger shack. There's absolutely nothing special about what they serve here. Very basic fare. Burgers, hot dogs & ice cream. The fried clams here are pretty outstanding though...full-bellied and dipped in a light, flakey batter...and cheap too...at least they were when I was a kid. That's one thing I miss about New England...plentiful & good-quality fried clams. But even though C&L was nothing special, there *was* something special about coming here after a soccer game, or after a date, or whatever, and just hanging out. There's something about late evening ice cream cones or raspberry lime rickeys during the summer that just hits the spot. read more

C&L Frosty ROCKS! This was my grandfather's favorite place, noting that it's been around for a pretty long time. And guess what..... it's still phenomenal. While it has all of the normal things for a burger and ice cream place, the VALUE is what makes this place really great. And in Sherborn, there isn't even any competition in this department.... so unless you want to drive into Natick or Framingham, C&L will be your only choice! Service is friendly all the time, and the seating inside and outside is perfect. May not have a great amount of tables, but normally there are still a few available (this place does get BUSY!). Take out is available, and the ice cream counter is great too. The menu is wide, my favorite section being the "Platters". You get two of whatever you order, a drink and fries. They have cheeseburger, fish filet, hot dog, hamburger platters, and a few others I can't remember. Onion rings are also a classic here, and I always make sure to order some. Other great things to order that I have over the years are the Clam Roll from the sandwich menu. Speaking of which, while the platters are great, the sandwich menu is great too. $2.90 for a hot dog, $5.40 for a cheeseburger, $2.55 for a grilled cheese, $6.05 for a chicken salad, and the clam roll (my fav) is $14.95. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is filling if you order enough. And the orders are made fast, and have been ALWAYS accurate for the years and years I've been here. Ice cream is great too. Great flavors like vanilla, chocolate, OREO, pistachio, peppermint stick black raspberry, chocolate chip and others. Also, while their website should be accurate they don't always have the Toll House flavor (so why list it if you don't have it, and aren't going to re-stock!). The only reason they get 4 stars over 5 is because of a customer service issue that still hasn't been resolved. I called this place and spoke with some manager regarding the ice cream flavor and price issues on the website. I just recently checked the site before going here around a month or two ago, as I haven't been here in a while, and the list of ice cream prices is completely wrong. Now the difference isn't a big deal, and ice cream is still a good deal, it's just the fact they are telling people something that isn't true. A small ice cream is NOT $3.10, medium is NOT $3.70, and large is NOT $4.15. Now if you look at the PDF menu it's correct, but on the actual site it's wrong. When I specifically call to let the manager know it's wrong I expect a response of FIXING it! I was hoping I will be able to update this review to a 5-star, but it's been so long since that call that it doesn't seem possible anymore. I will post a picture of the screenshot from their website. I have always been a fan of C&L. It is a classic snack shack approach where you can get your summertime fried food standards and soft serve (only all year round!) Simple, quick, and clean. The outdoor seating is nice and the setting leaves you in a perfect location to head tot he Peace Abbey (right out of the parking lot) or the Charles River water fall down in South Natick (left out of the parking lot and follow Route 16 to the right.) I get the same thing: turkey on toasted wheat, with mayo, lettuce, and extra pickles... the first sandwich was awesome, super-fresh REAL oven roasted turkey, piled almost 3 inches high... it was too much for me, but the 2nd half of it made for a good Midnight snack later that day. The past two orders have been 'meh'... DELI turkey (WTH?!?!) maybe a total of 3 slices of 'turkey' used in each sandwich. I'd add that their fried shrimp are completely addictive. Of course, you have to end the meal with ice cream.
