They would get 5 stars, but the parking in this area is rough. I am not one to complain about a walk, but in 15 degree weather without windchill is cold for me, but really bad for my baby. The food was great! The service staff was very understanding! They were very accomadating, as well. We arrived with two people short in our party and seated us anyway with the baby fully dressed in a snowsuit and needing to get our of it! They even let him order separately, as we all know that kids don't wait for those who don't show up on time for dinner. My son greatly enjoyed the arroz amarillo complete with habichuelas. The rice was piled very nicely in a cone shape. I had the chicharones de pollo. Now they don't serve it sin gueso, but it was still very good, especially with the hot sauce that they have branded as their own. Don't forget to add a mojito to your order. They are complete with the pon pon pon y pellito y pelon and a bonus sugar stirrer. When you dine at Cabana, it is full service -high chair and all, the only pickle comes when it is changing time-there is no changing table in the bathroom, so be prepared to do a balancing act.!!! A poor excuse for 'Latin' food First of all is this suppose to be a Cuban restaurant ? I went with my mother who is 100% Cuban and she asked me where is the Cuban food ? It was like 4 things in the menu that were Cuban. Cuban or not the food was just plain bad.My appetizer was the frituras de camaron which were stale cold and where was the shrimp I felt like it was a vegan version. My mom ordered mariquitas which are suppose to be crispy and thin they were so thick it was hard to chew. We ordered entrees off the menu we got the special I had salmon and my mom red snapper both looked great but really tasted like nothing and I mean nothing no salt no pepper. My dish came with black rice I admit tasted pretty good. All in all bland food the 2 stars are for service the waiter was very attentive and even offered to replace my mothers dish. Will I go back no thanx I will take the trip to the city and go to Guantanamera or Victor's cafe for Cuban. read more

I wish I could do a full review, but since the place was so packed I never actually got a chance to eat there. We went there and was told a 20 minute wait, no problem we wait at the bar. This place was recommended by a co-worker, said they had really good mojitos. So that's what we ordered. They had no flavor what-so-ever...the bartender kept all the glasses for the mojitos prefilled with the mint and sugar...there was no muddling of the ingredients...then I noticed they watered down everything! I've never seen a martini made with seltzer water before. After waiting almost an hour at the bar with flavorless drinks, we ask the hostess how much longer, seeing it was only suppose to be 20 minutes. We were told another 20 minutes and there was only 1 table ahead of us...we decided to lea ve and go to santa fe next door. Much better mojitos and better service. read more

Haven't had anything here that was disappointing.!!! the mojitos are deliscioso with real cane sugar stick to stir and the sangrias are amazing!!! tons of fruit in them! Get the pitcher with some friends and enjoy the music and amazing food. favs include the coconut shrimp, the app platter with amazing empanadas, jerk chicken wings, shrimp fritters and veggie fritters, 4 of each and spicy sauces of different levels on the plate. It cheap and great for apps with drinks with a friend. the skirt steak is amazing! with a side of their rice and beans (although lately the beans have been a tad salty) The cabana salad is my favorite, it, like the others, are huge!! arroz con pollo is soo delicious! the rice is cooked perfectly, the chicken tender, and the olives are a seriously good addition! and there is so much, its great for leftovers. I never get to the desert because I'm always sooooo full! The lunch special is cheap and the portions are big! good enough for two! The only cons about this place is that it is sooo narrow and it gets crowded quick on wkends so you might be on top of another table, unless you're luck and get a window seat in the corner where nobody bother's you! YAy! Also, they do not take reservations and because everyone loves this place, there is always at least a 45 min wait on the line on wkends! (star off for that!) First time coming back after a few years. Hubby and I would frequently have dinner dates while dating and liked it back then. Now it's downgraded. Service is not the best considering basic stuff like silverware and plates was missing from our table. I ordered one of the special dishes for the day consisting of fish, black rice, and two miserable empanadas was priced $35. For lunch!! Where did they catch my fish?! Revisited after a few yrs since my fav mgr Jose had left/ the food was eeh , so thur nite since my sister wanted to go there we stopped by/ low/behold my fav mgr was backk but before I saw him service was still the same A-ok. Coconut Shrimp always good/ the White Sangria was so good I forgot since I always got Mojitos which r xcellent but I get mine with vodka instead rum cause rum gives me a headache! I've turned into a punk,lol. Anywho I got the shell steak special with lobster/shrimp/ was iffy about the shell steak because shell steaks are usually tough/grisly but It was Tender so yay, the lobster was a bit chewy guess because it was small the heat overcooks it fast/ the black beans were a bit salty. So I told the mgr really cool guy he said he was getting bigger lobsters next day/ and my sis was content with her chkn/shrimp. Food is pricey but its forest hills. This place is ok. The waiter that served our table had no clue about the food. He told us to just read the menu. I was with my mother and grandmother that don't know how how to read or write English. The waiter clearly spoke Spanish and didn't even try to help us. He didn't promote the restaurant or the food in any way. When we finally decided on our choice he was grabbing the menus out of our hands. It was awful. The music is so loud that everyone is screaming cause they cant have a normal conversation. I have had a lot of expirence eating at Latin restaurants. The food was good but not great. Maybe if I had a more welcoming expirence I would have enjoyed the food more. I would say for the whole customer service. This place is over priced. One more last thing we waited for ever to receive our food, and the waiter never showed up to follow up after we got our food. Okay I'm not one to complain I'm very patient this was my first time coming here I thought it be good cause of the reviews however I was extremely dissatisfied. My bf and I arrived for lunch and were the first two there one thing I notice is that we were not given lunch menus I asked nicely and then got them why would I pay more if Lunch has specials. Our server greeted us he was not very friendly I tried to order a steak sandwich and asked if I can put cheese he said their not allowed. I didn't get it how are you not allowed to put cheese on a sandwich so I let it go and ordered the chiccarron de pollo. My bf and I asked for sides he said the price for each item as if we couldn't afford it. He didn't ask what I would like on the side or what beverage i would like. WE WAITED 45 MINUTES FOR FOOD!!! We see the first ppl there !!! I couldn't believe how long it took. The food was not worth it I'm Latin dined at a bunch of Spanish restaurants and did not like my food at all. The salad was oily the rice was bland and the chicken was overlooked. The waiter never asked if I wanted a refill he asked for my side orders when my food came out. He didn't even say it would be a wait for the food I would think after 30 minutes he'd say sorry guys it's taking awhile. My bf had work and couldn't do the things he needed cause we were there so long. This is poor service and food quality not worth it !!! i was looking for a decent, romantic, festive and best of all great food for our (hubby and i) new year's eve dinner celebration this year... we made the right choice. upon entering the restaurant, we were accosted with warm smiles and festive aura. the service from reception to waiters to everybody in the resto were great! - can't complain especially that these people were spending their new year's eve at work! the restaurant is small but charming. music was great, not to loud compared to other latin american restos. didn't see any TV inside. everybody and i mean everybody, regardless of ethnicity, won't feel uncomfortable nor intimidated, feels comfy right away. this is what i love about New York - diversity :) the food - my hubby ordered mariscado del dia while i ordered paella valenciana. oh boy! its been years since i last tasted paella and they were equally good. well, being that this is a latin american restaurant, some people might find the food relatively salty. the portions were huge. i had to take home 2/3 of my paella 'cause it was simply too much for me. i tried their mojito - i certainly enjoyed it :p the food was pricey but worth it. they do not take reservations, that's for sure. you have to wait in line. street (metered) parking could be a challenge since the whole strip are all restaurants although i saw paid parking around there. thanks Cabana, until next time :) read more

very good food but VEGETARIANS BEWARE. Their "vegetarian" dish is made with chicken stock. I've been going there for years and I've asked every time and they always assured me that it was COMPLETELY vegetarian until one waitress, in their Florida Restaurant asked me "Wait, are you a real vegetarian? Because it's made with chicken stock." Before I made a reservation for the one in Forest HIlls, I asked the lady on the phone, and my waiter before I ordered and they both said it was completely vegetarian... until i told my waiter i was allergic to chicken and then the waiter changed his mind and told me he was mistaken. Long story short, It's not vegetarian, even if they tell you it is, they are probably just being lazy and not asking the chef. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. Everything on the menu is just amazing. Service is always very good, desserts are delicious (yet cheap) and portions are huge. Entree prices are a bit expensive but worth it for the size. I usually make 2 meals out of an entree here. Only bad thing is that it's always packed!! Took a friend to Cabana for lunch. Was seriously disappointed. Service was not as good as in the past. Had difficulty understanding waitress, so much so that I quickly became disinterested in the specials and decided to order off the menu. They kept interrupting us. Some of the mesclun in my salad was soft and slimy. I showed it to the waitress who offered me a fresh salad or soup. Frankly, I was so disgusted by this that I was turned off to the rest of the meal. The busy boy kept trying to take our plates away. I was annoyed and will never go back. The place needs to be cleaned up, the floors are falling apart and there's a strong disinfectant smell. YUCK! read more

My husband and I tried this place for the first time and it was delicious. It was a Friday night, had to wait 40 minutes to be seated (to be expected), the wait was worth it. The food was delicious and despite how busy and packed it was, the food came out so quick and service was excellent- shout out to our waiter Marco! For an app, we ordered jerk chicken wings and for entrees we has the pulled skirt steak and empanadas. Not a bad thing to say! We'll definitely be back :)! read more

Love this place!! I went last night for dinner with a friend. We shared the calamari, which was delish. I got the chicharone de pollo and my friend had the salmon. Both were delish!! The portions are pretty large so you can share if you want, although you might not want to. Lol! If you have room, def try the tres leche cake. It's soooo good!!! read more
