When the waiter brought it, I told him that I had ordered a bowl. He told me that it was a bowl. It wasn't as good as I remembered it. Woods Seafood and the Lobster Hut (right next door) charge $5.50 / bowl. They also charged $3.95 for a really bad cup of coffee. Oh well. read more

It's right on the water and there's plenty of parking. You can sit inside or outside. We sat outside and it was beautiful. Seats are not that comfy, they have those plastic chairs that are not the best to sit in for long. Our waitress was great, answered all our questions and was very timely despite having a bunch of tables besides ours. I tried the white sangria it was really good- on the sweet side but I didn't mind. For lunch I had the tuna melt which was on the daily special list. We arrived and there was a 35/40 minute wait. There was a lot of available seating; I assume the wait was due to the restaurant being busy yet understaffed. We were sat at a 4 person table (we had a party of 5) but they provided an extra chair and there was more than enough space for everyone. The best dish out of our orders was easily the vegetarian spring rolls! I highly recommend & it comes with a spicy dipping sauce that adds tons of flavor! We went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon in May and despite it down pouring, the place was still pretty busy. I started with a cup of clam chowder, which was very thick, but very tasty! For our meals our table got the fish and chips, fish and chips sandwich, and the fiery shrimp flatbread. The fish and chips meals were both good and the fish totally fell apart which was great, but the fries were pretty bland in my opinion. The flatbread was interesting, not bad, but the flavors made me realize why Asian cuisine does not have any cheese. Today's experience at The Cabby Shack. Phenomenal! My son and I split the captain's platter. Some of the best fresh belly clams I've ever had. Whether it's seasonal or they just get the best quality, the clams were small, tender, sweet yet nice and crunchy without a heavy batter. Billed as the "best chowdah " at the top of the menu, but it is THE WORST clam chowder I have ever experienced... ever anywhere. We expected a thick chowder but the potatoes were under cooked, and the "soup" was like wall paper paste. It was tasteless and I think they cut up one clam for the entire bowl , it was a hunt to find any among the potatoes and there was no clam flavor. Hubs and I stupidly each went all in for a bowl, not a cup ( which wasn't cheaply priced!) and ate maybe a quarter of it before it congealed to set cement and became inedible. The wait staff paid no attention to the fact that both bowls were uneaten (we didn't complain- not worth the hassle and they were slammed). Others in our party loved their pizzas/flat breads, though. And the sushi offerings looked great, but were very pricey (yes, tourists may pay it and in retrospect, so would we had we known how bad the signature "chowdah " was.) Great beach bar vibe though! I'd go there to hang with friends for drinks but never again for food. read more

I cannot even begin to describe how HORRIBLE our experience was at Cabby Shack. We came here after a wedding with a large group, excited to celebrate, but were immediately met with outright discrimination and disrespect simply because we were from out of state. The manager and security treated us terribly from the moment we arrived. The groom was actually demanded to show two forms of ID just to enter something I've never heard of in my life, and clearly a tactic to target those who aren't local. It was insulting, unprofessional, and completely ruined what should have been a fun night. On top of that, the service was absolutely disgusting. The staff acted like we were an inconvenience, the drinks were poorly made and overpriced, and the overall atmosphere was anything but welcoming. This is supposed to be a place for people to relax and enjoy themselves, but instead it felt hostile, judgmental, and just plain uncomfortable. We were so upset we made sure to spread the word to the other 5 wedding parties happening in the area that night none of them will be going to Cabby Shack either. Instead, we all recommended East Bay Grille, where the staff treats everyone with fairness and respect (night and day difference). If you're thinking about going to Cabby Shack, do yourself a favor: don't. There are plenty of great places in the area that actually want your business and won't discriminate against you based on where you're from. I don't have much to say. We came here to grab a quick bite to eat for dinner expecting at least good seafood. Right by the water in Plymouth, beautiful location pitiful food. The only saving grace of this restaurant was the clam chowder. That was on another level. It was so thick you could stand a spoon up in it and was delectable. Thick, rich, and hearty.. what more could you want?! The cup size is definitely the appropriate portion size for this dish, anything else will comatose you. All the other dishes were more than disappointing. The blackened fish tacos were bland, not even blackened, and so poorly presented it was an appetizing. It was the oddest combination of toppings I've ever seen in a taco. Romain lettuce, chopped up fish, and some type of fruit that resembled mango but tasted like a fruit cocktail. In my head I imagined a mango salsa, filet of fish and a cooked/grilled tortilla.. I received none of that. I think I could call this the worst taco I've ever eaten. My sister ordered the Boursin shrimp and said it was terribly overcooked that the mouth feel resembled jerky. My brother ordered the swordfish Rockefeller and said that it was good. Not pictured, but my mom ordered the crabcakes and did not even finish one of them because she said they were disgusting and just tasted like salt. She actually sent it back. I would not come back. As an experience I don't want to have again and don't necessarily recommend. The chowder was the only good thing. Our server was sweet but not very helpful, she does not like seafood. I've been here several times over the years and never had a bad meal, not to mention the views from the two floors of outdoor dining overlooking the water are just beautiful. The clam chowder here is one of my favorites on planet earth - so rich & thick, your spoon will stand up straight in it! For me, this clam chowder screams "quintessential New England" and I love that you can get it in a bread bowl if you want. If thick chowder is your thing, this one's a must-try! On our last visit here, I ordered the seafood casserole and my husband got the baked scallops. We both ate every last bite of our meals! My casserole had plenty of seafood in a light buttery sauce that I couldn't get enough of. My vegetable medley & coleslaw sides were equally as delicious; just your basics done right. After the last time I was here over 10+ years ago having a bad experience I can now say it might be my go to spot. I got the chowder in a bread bowl and easily some of the best chowder there is out there. Very thick and full of flavor. 2 of us arrived on a Saturday around 4:30. There is pay parking, but if you have the app you can use that right from your car. The lot was pretty full but there are always people leaving so be ready to make a couple of passes before a spot frees up. We went up to the top level, where there is an outdoor bar with 24 chairs and also many tables. The bar was full when we arrived, however, within 10 minutes or so both the bar and the tables had plenty of seats. They all began to fill up again around 5:15. FOOD: Excellent! The fish and chips, at $24.99 is a little pricey, however, the quality is top notch. The fish was flaky and the coating light with the perfect amount of flavor. The fries and slaw were very good. The portion is good for one person, but if you have an app or 2, you may be able to split it. BAR: Mio (mee-oh) is a chill bartender who kept up with everyone's drinks. He was always scanning the bar to make sure everyone had what they needed. Decent wine selection, they offer 6 and 9 oz. They use a caraf to measure so they are pretty standard pours. I like they have actual glass for the wine. The beer and other drinks come in plastic cups. SERVICE: Very good. Mio took excellent care of us, we had drinks right away. The food took a little longer than expected, however, it was not an issue for us as we were not in a rush. Every place around here is short staffed, so exercising patience is appreciated by those hardworking folks covering for the shortage. We appreciate each and every one of you! ATMOSPHERE: This has to be one of the best views from a restaurant in Plymouth. It's surprisingly hard to get a beautiful water view, excellent service and good quality food on the waterfront. Cabbyshack gets 5 stars in all categories! There is a tiki bar vibe upstairs and speakers with music at a level where you can also have a conversation without shouting. Having been disappointed countless times when dining in Plymouth, I was certainly nervous about trying somewhere on the main strip, but the rumor of amazing chowder called me in. We had minimal wait on a beautiful Sunday, and were seated outside on their patio. We came for the chowder, but decided to grab some hand cut onion rings as well. The rumors are true, this chowder is thick enough to hold up the biggest spoon you can throw at it. Not only is it thick, but it's loaded with flavor, and nice chunks of clam (an ingredient that can go missing in many tourist areas). This place gets pretty crowded on a football day, and they have TVs all around. There's the main restaurant and a sealed in outdoor area so it's warmer than outside, but may not be a great option for most of the year. You can put your name on the waiting list on Yelp! I didn't know that so I did have a bit of a wait due to poor planning, but when we were seated, the booths are spacious and service was good. We started out with clam chowder soup -- very tasty, thick cream, oil was thick on top but mixed that in. It was filled with clams, so this soup was definitely a winner. We were intrigued by the captains platter - a fried combo platter of haddock, clams, shrimp and scallops with onion rings, fries, and coleslaw. We wanted the variety but was disappointed if we wanted broiled food, we could only get the haddock or the scallops, no combo platter. We also couldn't substitute the fried sides so got the only vegetable on the menu. It was tasty, but it was a LOT of food and very heavy the rest of the night. It was a lot of fried food but a good variety of options. "Lightly fried" seems just like "regular fried." It's a nice place to come and the service was good. Soup was amazing. I would return to try other dishes. I know it's more common now to do to go containers because of COVID, but it also puts a damper on the enjoyment of going out to try to rip into a cardboard box to get the meal. read more

Our biggest complaint were the drinks. The measured pours were very weak. Ordered a margarita which was cheap tequila and water.
