Went there for the first time today. The ultimate fish tacos were really good. I plan to go again. There are a lot of things to like about this place. The Freebirds feel made it familiar. I liked the glass bottles of Coke and Mexican drinks (there is a bottle opener at the cash register). Then there are five choices for tacos or burritos: pork, beef (Nolan Ryan beef), chicken, fish, and veggie; and 4 choices of tortillas: ancho chile something tomatillo, flour, and something cheddar. Then I got to the Imperial sugar based fountain drinks. My only problem, which isn't really a problem, since I got more food, was that they don't seem to have any portion control, so they just slop everything on the taco, and that makes it very messy and hard to eat. read more

i am from California, the land of burritos. I love Cabo Bobs and try to go every time I am in Austin, which is about 6-7 times a year. I love the fresh tortillas, and the steak is super good. The chips are made to order out of the fresh flour tortilla. my favorite part is the jalapeno sauce. It's light green and creamy. I actually put a container in a zip lock and brought it home to cali...Best of all, they are the nicest people. Every one is so happy. Went to this place on Saturday after suffering through the monthly wal-mart visit. I have long been a fan of Freebirds and will definitely go to Chipotle when available but I gotta tell ya(no relation to Mark Katz here) this place has it goin on. The fresh made tortillas do the job for me.... I had the Tacos so I could try several flavors ....Ancho pepper, Chedder and the Green one....now i remember eating some really good tortillas out in Del Rio one time that were fresh made and they may be the only ones I have had that are better than these...sweet old Mexican lady that also made these great tamales, I know they were loaded with the good stuff -mmmm LARD-......sorry that is another review, back to this place....I mixed it up and got the pork ,steak and fish all good stuff, great toppings and some really good hot sauces kinda like that Cholulla stuff you see everywhere but I think these guys make it....anyway I have a new favorite burrito place...wait a minute I ate tacos does that count, oh well guess I have to go back..... First time trying CBs and it didn't disappoint. I'm a big fan of Chipotle and not so much for Freebirds if that helps explain my taste. I really like the different burrito skins you can choose from and they are really fresh as well. They even have fish as a protein option but the only thing I'm not too sure of is the difference between the bowl and the salad. To me Chipotle is the pinnacle of burritos -- Generous portions with quality ingredients. After finding this place on yelp, I decided to try it out. I found it very similar to Chipotle, but they had more ingredients which made it possible to customize your Burrito/taco in more ways. I ended up getting the fish burrito wrapped in a tomato basil wrap and it was MASSIVE. The fish was fried and I want to say they either used cod or tilapia. If Chipotle and Cabos Bobs were neighbors, I'd probably opt for Chipotle 70% of the time. If I could give this place 4 1/2 stars I would. A well made tasty burrito. read more

Always telling it like it is ... Well whomever the hell Bob is, I'll gladly take him on a trip to Cabo. Cabo Bob's is what Chipotle would be if it were any good. Pick a category: Bob's is above average in all of them. Pressed out to order tortillas in 4 flavors, several tasty meats (actually enjoyed every one of them), and plenty of fresh toppings to construct your BurritoTacoBowl (whichever you like). I'm a little partial to the mango salsa, but they have plenty of the more traditional ones to finish off your creations as well. The soda fountain doesn't just have the usual same boring choices either. Very nice variety. The star of the drinks however is the mint ice tea. I'd bathe in it if they'd let me. As a finishing touch they have a red pepper sauce in a bottle which is the perfect blend between flavor and heat. Watch out for the hotter version of this though. It's certainly up a few more notches than the regular version. Well Bob, I have an exciting vacation planned out for us. I absolutely love everything about Cabo Bob's minus the fact they're closed Sunday. I will live though. The fountain, and bottled soda's are made with real sugar cane. The tortilla's are homemade, and more than one to choose from. They're cooked, and not placed in a presser(and served cold) like Chipotle. I will never go to Chipotle again. However, the only thing I will miss is the corn filling for my burrito, but Cabo Bob's has grilled zucchini, and squash. read more

I freaking love this place! I am all about a good burrito. My boyfriend and I were in Austin recently and had to try this place out. They have a lot of options for your burrito, as well as 4 different types of tortillas. They have the tortilla dough sitting there waiting to go and they press it with a dough machine and throw it on a rotating round grill and cook it right in front of you! I couldn't get over it! Our burritos were delicious. They also had cute retro looking choices for the fountain soda. I got the peach soda which was awesome. I can't believe what a sad burro city Austin is, considering it's the de facto home of bastardized Mexican food, aka Tex mex. Cabo Bob's is yet another example of the mediocre, bland mish mash that has come to define the Austin burro. First off, this whole notion that a burrito should be an assembly line experience is seriously misguided (an aside - Freebirds does this concept better, and cheaper). It's like making a salad into a burro - pile up a bunch of random ingredients and hope that all the flavors gel into a savory whole. That's more a recipe for disaster than a good burro, which needs only: beans, rice, meat, salsa or pico, and cheese. Add some slices of avocado or guac, a dash of cream si le gusta. And better yet, drop the rice altogether - this is the recipe at la Taqueria, considered by many to be the best in the Bay area. Unfortunately, even if you stick to the basics at Bob's, you won't get much in terms of flavor -- most of their ingredients seriously lack seasoning. Mexican food needs a certain amount of lard, oil and salt to bring its flavors together. So while Bob's may take a healthier approach, it results in much blander food. (Aside again - you know why Torchy's is so good?...buttermilk and mayo in those magic sauces. Not healthy, but damn tasty) One of the most insulting things about Bob's is the price -- I just paid $8.92 for a basic beef burro with guac. That's phreaking ridiculous, even if it was the best damn burro on the planet. In Cali and Chicago (two places loaded with authentic taquerias), I can't remember ever paying more than about $6 for a burro. I think i've tried just about every burro place in town, and not a one can hold a candle to a decent taqueria in these cities. A few of the taco trucks on the East side make a passable burro, but assembly line places like Bob's make for a pretty tasteless and overpriced experience. read more

I used to like Rubio's fish tacos and had been to a Wahoo's......but this place absolutely, postively trumps them. If you are a fan of the Chipotle way of doing things, you will like this. I personally don't like Chipotle, but I love Cabo Bob's. MAJOR PLUSES: -Fresh tortillas turned out on the placa. Enough said. -Fresh, wonderfully battered fish. Not fishy. Fresh, or well frozen. I lived in Alaska. I know good fish. -Mango salsa. I make this at home, but hand-chopped salsa fresca (no, I don't use a food processor) is work, yo! Theirs is very good. -Cane sugar sodas. This was the clincher. My man and I have both enjoyed our trips here. The service is friendly, the food is fresh, the interior fun in an airy, Spiccoli way. It brings a much-needed piece of California into to the puzzle of my Texas existence. So far, the best fish taco I have found in Austin. I'm really happy with their food. Their proximity to Wal-Mart makes even a teeth-grinding trip to Wal-Mart worthwhile. :) read more

This hidden gem might have gotten overlooked if it wasn't for my sister's adventurous appetite. Been going here for over a yeah and it gets better all the time. DELICIOUS flavor - the fish tacos are awesome and the sodas are the "pure cane sugar" variety. That's right...Dr.Pepper made with sugar sugar. Everything I've eaten there is flavorful and hot and always made to order correctly. The pricing is spot on for the quality and portions and the staff there have always been very personable, friendly, and genuinely seem to enjoy working there. The only downsides:: having to drive down south on I-35 - they need a location up north STAT. And they are closed on Sundays (which is when you want it most...kinda like Chick Fil A). I really wanted to love Cabo Bob's. My roommate loves this place and she kept telling me to try it, and after a very stressful day, I was looking forward to a nice meal to make everything a bit better I got the chicken bowl with the ancho chile tortilla on the side. The tortilla was warm and it's a nice touch that they make it on the spot, but I don't think it tasted any different from a regular tortilla... The chicken could have used a lot more flavor, to be honest, but the sauces were great. I recommend getting the 66 sauce that they use; it really gives it more flavor along with the chipotle crema The price you get for a burrito is also really good! I was super full after finishing my food and I have a pretty good appetite I do want to give this place another chance though, so I'm going to go back and try the Fish Tacos next time :) read more
