An unnamed shipyard in Alamitos Bay did not even call me back after leaving a message of what I was looking for in a haul out. This appears to be the southern most part of the South Waterfront Bike and Pedestrian Path. Fishers bring their families and children ride their bikes and scooters on the path. Today, we caught zero fish, but it's still a cool spot. Nice and breezy. Also loud from the noise from the Port of Long Beach. The cargo train runs through there, can hear whirling and buzzing of drills, and the lift and lowering of the cargo containers. Interesting sight, but it's not ideal for those who want serene aquatic sounds...

The captain put us on some great spots during the day for some bottom fishing and we definitely found the lobsters at night but boat traffic was tough. We also trapped a lot of short lobsters so can't complain at all. Rich in the galley also made some awesome jalapeño cheeseburgers (made mine a double). Nothing beats a galley burger while fishing. I'll be back soon before the season ends.

There were several issues that made me feel misled before, during, and after the trip. 1. OVERBOOKING BOAT: One of the main reasons I fish on weekdays is because they're usually less crowded. When I booked my trip, the website showed 8 seat available for Monday. After I paid, it still showed 8, which I thought was odd but assumed the system was accurate. The morning of the trip, it still showed 8. When I arrived, however, there were approximately 43-45 people on board a very small boat. The boat itself lists a 35-person capacity, yet there were well over 40 passengers. Because of the overcrowding: - There wasn't enough room to store everyone's bags. - There weren't enough rod holders for everyone. - Fishing space was extremely limited. - Tangles were constant. I specifically try to avoid crowded trips because of situations like this. At one point my line became tangled with another angler's, and before I even had a chance to work it out, someone simply cut my line. The passenger count displayed on the website was completely misleading, and I feel I was sold a very different experience than what I actually received. 2. MISLEADING PARKING: Before purchasing my ticket, I looked into parking. The website displayed a photo showing free parking at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, but provided almost no additional information. I also checked Yelp and Google, where many reviews indicated that parking there was free. Only three hours after I purchased my ticket, I received an email stating that parking at the museum was not allowed and that vehicles could be towed. The email suggested trying to find street parking instead. Finding parking is stressful enough when you already have to arrive before sunrise for a fishing trip. If this restriction was known, it should have been clearly stated on the website before customers purchase tickets--not several hours afterward. To make matters worse, the day after my trip I noticed the parking image on the website had been updated, suggesting they were aware that people were having issues. However, the parking information is still incomplete. Had I known the actual parking situation ahead of time, I likely would have booked a different landing. 3. MANDATORY FISHING CUTTING FEE: This was another unpleasant surprise. If you catch fish, you are required to pay to have them cleaned. There is no option to decline the service and take your fish home whole. I caught only two mackerel and was charged $9 to have them cleaned. I would have preferred to clean them myself at home, but I wasn't given that choice. I've been on many Southern California sport boats, and I've never encountered a mandatory fish-cleaning fee. If customers are required to pay for this service, that information should be clearly disclosed on the website before booking. 4. WEBSITE vs. SOCIAL MEDIA: he website lacks important information that customers actually need. Fish counts are not updated consistently. Important details such as parking restrictions and mandatory fish-cleaning fees are difficult to find or missing altogether. Passenger counts appear inaccurate. Meanwhile, the Instagram account is updated constantly with stories and photos, often highlighting previous yellowtail catches. It seems there is plenty of time to keep social media current, but not enough attention given to maintaining an informative and accurate website. OVERALL The entire experience left me feeling misled and disappointed. It wasn't just one issue--it was the combination of misleading passenger counts, confusing parking information, undisclosed mandatory fees, and poor communication that made me feel like I wasn't given the information needed to make an informed decision. There are many great sportfishing boats in Southern California that are transparent about their policies and provide a much better customer experience. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend Sport King.

Take my business somewhere else, then the day Steve owner of sunrise marine was going to put my boat back in the water so another mechanic can work on it he asked me to be the one to follow him to the boat ramp where he ran my boat for almost 10 minutes with water going to the engine then told me he had to take the boat back to the shop and on the way there I noticed the trailer crank wasn't connected ! Cone to fine out it didn't work and he was using my rope to secure the boat to the trailer. So unprofessional for someone that charged me $1950 in Labor charges just to remove an engine and do a compression check on the other engine. I am Pursuing civil actions against sunrise Marine and the owner Stephen so I advise nobody goes there and find other places to take their vessel to

I took my boat in to get the control box and cables replaced because my throttle was sticking and…read moredifficult to move. They upsold me to get diagnostics run on the engine and told me the lower unit needed servicing. It took them !!FOUR!! weeks just to get the parts and they lied every time I called in saying it would only be a few more days. The estimate was already high and then when I came to pick up my boat they bumped up the cost another $800. Then... when I put the boat in the water, the throttle was difficult to move, just like it was before they supposedly "fixed" the issue. I asked them to fix the issue like I had paid for and they wanted to charge me for the fix! I told them 'no!' and took it another service person. The second service person ran a diagnostic test and told me that Sunrise hadn't run any diagnostics on the boat - and found issues with my spark plugs that should have been identified by Sunrise if they had actually done the diagnostics. I was there when he replaced the spark plugs and saw how bad they were. Sunrise never performed the work they said they did on the boat and then tried to get me to pay them more. This place is completely unethical - they are crooks. Find anywhere else to go unless want to get robbed and lied to by these crooks.

The only reason this place gets a 3 instead of a 5 star review is for the price of admission, the boat wash down should be free like most other boat launch facilities. Why do patrons need to pay additional just to flush their motors and spray down their boats. Feels like a bit of a money grab.

The Freedom was, by far, the worst fishing charter I've ever been on! Unfortunately, the biggest…read moreissue wasn't the fishing, it was the captain's attitude and the overall lack of professionalism. The captain was extremely rude and seemed to have no customer service skills. Throughout the trip, he repeatedly complained about being tired of fishing and talked about how good he was, yet the boat didn't even have enough bait for the trip. My group drove several hours and paid hundreds of dollars each to fish for yellowtail on an overnight trip. By around 9:30 a.m., the captain announced that we were out of bait and that we'd be switching to rockfishing. We didn't travel all that way or pay for an overnight trip just to spend most of the day rockfishing. When customers expressed their frustration, the captain said that some boats had canceled their trips because they didn't have bait. If that's true, then that's exactly what should have happened here. Instead, the trip went out anyway, everyone paid full price plus a $20 fuel surcharge, and we weren't told about the bait shortage until less than halfway through the trip. The problems didn't stop there. For the first several hours, the crew was nowhere to be found because they were asleep. We had to gaff our own fish because there was no crew available to help. There was also no coffee or breakfast available early in the morning because the cook was asleep, and when customers asked for food, he complained instead of helping. To make matters worse, several passengers questioned the accuracy of their galley tabs and felt they had been overcharged. Overall, this trip was extremely disappointing. Between the lack of preparation, poor customer service, and unprofessional crew, I would not recommend fishing on the Freedom. There are plenty of other charter boats that value their customers and provide a much better experience. Avoid this boat at all cost!

Marinas are always a sight to see, but the one thing that popped out was how clean the entire area is.
