With a couple glasses of wine ($2 off from 11am to 3 pm) our lunch could have easily qualified as a perfect "Happy Hour" menu of sliced meats, spreadable and sliced cheeses, grapes and olives, crackers and a homemade pesto sausage wood fired pizza. Should have added the home made focaccia with olio santo for $2 to the meat and cheese platter, used end pieces of pizza crust to spread the final soft Boursin cheese. There are several artisan pizza choices. The pesto sausage had lots of mozzarella, making it go down easy and milder in spice than I expected. Just right. In retrospect, it was a little too much food, we should have had the short list of Lunch Menu specials including four sandwiches for. The Grilled Chicken Caprese, the Meatball, the Chicken Parmesan and the Salumi Sandwiches all come with a choice of sides. Another possibility is the choice of salads with a cup of soup for $10 and you can add a protein including chicken grilled steak, grilled shrimp, meatballs, Italian sausage, or scallops for about $4 each depending on the selection. On the outside, it looks like a smaller restaurant than it is, they have really done a marvelous job of creating an inviting space with an open kitchen and bar on opposite side with dining in between, larger parties in another room, lots of inviting windows and outside dining in nice weather. Tall ceilings and some hard surfaces could overwhelm conversation on a busy night, so bear that in mind. Big wooden table surfaces, cloth napkins and hefty silverware. Water refills came from a bottle on the table which our server made a point of pouring as needed. Service was excellent, for example a refill of iced tea was replaced with a new glass (hate it when a server takes your drink away to refill out of site and possibly get mixed up.) On a weekday we arrived at 11:30 and got right in, however by 12:15 the inside tables were mostly full. Reservations available on-line. I had avoided going there earlier as it always seemed very busy and the parking lot was shared with other businesses. The bone-in wood fire game hen used to be fire stars...crispy skin, amazing flavor, juicy and tender...and the accompanying veggies...sooo good! Well no longer. I was served a pale, bland piece of chicken that looked like the flash frozen kind you can get at Trader Joe's. The skin was not crispy at all. The chicken blended into the white plate. The sauce was not at all baked-in/carmelized. The veggies lacked flavor and had no yummy crispiness. So disappointing. I make chicken at home and rarely order it bc I can make it at home. BUT I'd get it at caci bc it was so darn good. No longer. Did I eat it? Yes, bc I was starving and wanted to fill up on protein and veg in an effort to avoid eating handfuls of unhealthy popcorn during a Three hour movie later today. Did I express my dissatisfaction when I was there? I sure did and received a "well, sorry."along w an explanation that they recently switched to a boneless hen as it saves time in the wood oven. (Nice server...manager stayed away!). Bad move. They need to return to the prior preparation. Very disappointing. Salad was very small for the price tag of $9 and drinks are overpriced. Needless to say, manager did remove meatballs from the bill and offered a dessert to go. Since we were just passing through, we declined dessert. Restaurant seemed like a nice vibe but maybe understaffed a bit. It felt like our waitress preferred being a bartender rather than part of the wait staff since we had to flag the only other waitress to ask where our order was. I had a margarita pizza last night and I could barely eat it! The crust seriously tasted like it was fired ahead of time and then they just threw the toppings on and heated it up, not piping hot, just warmed up! The toppings were minimal and it resembled nothing like an Italian margarita. No slices of mozzarella, just a little shredded cheese, diced tomatoes not sliced and slivers of basil, not freshly topped. The sauce was bland. My first tapped beer was in a warm glass! Caci is a beautiful building that is very clean and has an open feel to it. They have indoor, outdoor and bar seating. The parking lot looks busy when you come in but we were easily able to find a spot. I got the ube mile mocktail, a margarita pizza and tiramisu. I have 0 complaints about the food, it was phenomenal. The drink wasn't too sweet and also wasn't too ginger beer-y, made perfectly. The pizza was also cooked perfectly with a crispy crust and the perfect amount of toppings and sauce. The tiramisu had an ice cream like consistency that was excellent. I thought that the service was a little poor as there was a lack of attentiveness. I had the best experience today at Caci's. What a beautiful venue. It's very vibrant and bright inside. They have a huge garage door opening so it was cool and fresh from the breeze. It is a smaller venue but with the side of the restaurant being open, it created a feeling of openness which was nice! I was greeted and sat right away. Our server was fantastic. My lunch date was running late but she did a great job checking up on me and making sure I was good. After my sister arrived, drinks and food was ordered. Today we ordered the calamari, arancini and the shrimp and halibut bucatini pasta. For drinks I grabbed a Shirley temple. I did finally notice that they had mocktails at the back of their cocktail menu so I'll have to grab one next time. My sister grabbed the strawberry smash cocktail. I had a sip of the cocktail and it was delicious. You can taste the strawberry and the alcohol. The alcohol wasn't overwhelming, it was balanced. We had everything come out at the same time and boy it all looked amazing! Everything was beautifully plated. The calamari was fried perfectly! The exterior had a great crunch, perfectly seasoned and the inside was tender. It came with two dipping sauce and both were delightful. You got 3 huge balls of the Arancini which was fried risotto with mozzarella in the middle. They were embedded in their Nonna sauce. Talk about chef's kiss! They were so good! You can eat those bad boys as a meal, they are massive and a must have! The shrimp that came with the bucatini were nice and plump. The halibut was delicious as well. The pasta was cooked just right and the sauce that was paired with it had just the right amount of heat to get your mouth to tingle. Every bite was absolutely delicious. The venue is quite casual but it's perfect for a date night, lunch meeting or a simple drink at the patio bar. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying other items on their menu. My husband and I shared the Harvest Pear and Butternut Salad and the Sicilian Harvest Pizza (sensing a theme?), which were both wonderful!

The short rib bolognese was so delicious. The noodles were nice and tender while still offering a chew. The meat was tender and very flavorful. For the price, I wish there was a bigger portion. I don't eat very much but I wasn't full after finishing my meal. We did order a blueberry and lemon cheesecake for dessert. It was very refreshing and decadent at the same time. We chose CaCi for Mother's Day because we've had good food in the past, however, I believe we have the youngest server, very childlike! We ask about the grilled octopus.. she didn't seem capable to get us answers!! so we went ahead and ordered the grilled octopus and It was like rubber and definitely not grilled.!! all of the oil and spices were poured on the side of the dish with the rocket, not sure it wasn't microwaved. Very rubbery!! we asked for salt, it was not brought, until the end of the meal. When we ask about a second iced tea... so much time went by, we stopped her and asked her if she could bring it and she said" well it's not me. It's the bar I'm waiting on the bar." Which of course... she didn't need to say! Then when my short rib Bolognese came, instead of having the meat portion on it, it had about 2 tablespoons of fat gristle. And the noodles were all clumped up and hard. Unbelievable disgusting meal! It looked like leftover's from another table! I asked her is this really the usual Portion? She started talking very loudly and say the same thing over and over.. i decline, No! Everyone was already enjoying their meal. I was not going to start over with this nitwit! Total fail on celebrating Mother's Day with their food! I would not waste my time here! The food has gone downhill since December when the last chef left! It's ridiculous how we were treated!! I'm more of a regular customer than you realize but not now! We have experienced huge turnover in staff and it seems like they enjoy not giving good service! My wife and I just moved to Star from Southern CA. We have friends from CA that moved to Caldwell three years ago and we made plans to meet them here. Located off State 44 just past the 55/Eagle, it is located in a small shopping center on Riverside Dr. The ambiance is casual, and it's not as big as I thought it was. They do have a bar and some outdoor seating. Since it was a warm day, we chose inside. The menu includes appetizers, salads, pastas, pizzas, and more expensive entrees like steak, seafood, and duck. My wife had the Chicken Apple salad and I had the Sausage Pesto pizza. Our friends had a pasta dish, a salad, and the sausage pizza as well. My wife enjoyed her salad. My pizza was good, with sausage, mushrooms, and their homemade pesto. The crust reminded me of my trip to Italy. It was intermittently charred, which might turn some people off, but I like it. Our friends come here fairly regularly and enjoyed their food as well. The negative to our experience was the service. While our young female server was nice, it took her forever to get to our table to take our order, we actually had to flag her down, and even then she put us off for a few more minutes. After our food came, by a runner and not by her, she never checked back with us. Our friends call this service phenomenon "Mountain Time", and suggest that it is typical of Idaho, a calmer, more laidback attitude. However, we have been to many other restaurants on our trips here and since moving, and good and prompt service has been our experience. We will most certainly be back, as the food is good, but I hope that the next time we come the service will be a little better. read more
