A friend invited me out to brunch and picked this cafe. A warning - there is no sign on the door and it's poorly labeled so you had to sort of guess which building it was. It was a very homey place - which I liked - with a large assortment of delicious looking pastries and cakes at the counter. I got the Dill Eggs Special and my friend got the breakfast bagel. It took FOREVER for us to order. There was one woman running the cash register as well as making the coffee. All in all, food was fine but not for the price. You walk in aren't greeted, no sign on the door telling you to order at the counter or seat yourself but we figured it out by watching others. Staff was friendly and the food delicious. We ordered the Skillet Breakfast and a meat omelet. The portions were quite large, food fresh and hot. Other reviewers thought it was expensive, I find it comparable to other places for breakfast and we brought home leftovers. Will definitely go back. read more

We've tried to support this local establishment but continue to get poor service. They recently started putting their prices on the menu but it is very expensive for simple breakfast items. The order takers typically are rude and food takes forever even with it not that busy. We kept trying to chalk it up to a bad day but now this is the last time after waiting over an hour for food. I worked in white bear for over a year doing outside marketing and had no idea this place was alive and kicking...it always looked like an abandoned business. My daughter works across the street and mentioned I should go there to get coffee ---I said have you been there? She confirmed yes that she had. I went in although they do have a drive through and wowwwzzza the bakery case was amazing.....I ordered from the menu a veggie omelet - -it was divine ---i think they put a little dill and lemon in their eggs....yummers... I had to get a big ass muffin to take with as they were too good looking to not try...and it was terrific also.... I am kicking myself for not knowing about this wonderful establishment when I had the opportunity to frequent there all the time...apparently they have been functioning for over 20 years... Love this neighborhood gem! It was a mainstay in my life starting in high school. Such a cute, cozy place with great coffee, desserts, bakery and breakfast, as well as, lunch items. I have since moved and haven't been back in years. After hearing their call to the community to save their business because of their struggle to stay open during the pandemic, I came out to support. We ordered takeout breakfast and sweets and it did not disappoint. Order biscuits and gravy, eggs benedict, it was fantastic, could drink the addictive hollandaise, yum! Carrot cake was chock full of raisins, plump and spiced to perfection topped of course with a cream cheese frosting. Their frosted almond cookies are buttery and crumbly. Lemon bars are tangy and just what you'd expect from you grandmother's kitchen. If you are driving through White Bear Lake, or just in for a trip for delicious sweet or pick me up, check out Cafe Cravings and support a local business. A bright airy little shop with high windows for a great view. There is a spacious patio with a few sun umbrellas. The indoors. It's delightful, little weird, So 90's Grandma's tea and crumpets. Tables are a hodgepodge of re-done wood shop and thrown in with some pictures of Paris and Candle Bulb lighting. The pastry looks like what we would crave for but all I tried was a ham sandwich on Sourdough. The bread was on the dry side and the sandwich a bit thin for the thick price. Ham and cheese of fine quality. The Dark Roast was hardy and made me sorry I didn't order a large. If I were to show up in this neck O' the Burbs I would stop in again but just get a coffee and try a pastry provided I've burned enough calories ahead of time. read more

Very nice and friendly staff! They were helpful with our order learning that is was our first time. My sister was overly excited about their large gluten free menu!! Food was good, not great. My sister ordered the apple pancakes and kept saying that they must have cooked them on the grill after cooking a different meal because they tasted off and had a savory taste when her meal was supposed to be sweet. I ignored her and when she said she couldn't finish and offered me her pancakes, I was more than happy to try them! They were AWFUL! I had the taste in my mouth the whole day and it wouldn't go away. My husband thought the breakfast skillet was good...nothing special. Overall, very nice and friendly staff but the food is not worth it. It is also very expensive. I'm really disappointed in the owners of Cafe Cravings. I was given a gift card for the Cravings restaurants last fall. The gift card clearly states that it is valid at all 3 locations.... The problem was, they only had 2 locations when the gift card was sold and they were in the process of selling the one in the town where I live- and they didn't bother to disclose that. We found out that the local Cravings in Woodbury wouldn't honor the gift card when we went to pay for our bill last January. I called the owner of the the White Bear location the following day. I explained the situation and he said he would talk with his wife and call me back the following day. It's been 9 months and I am still waiting for a call back. I have attempted to reach the owner a dozen times- leaving messages with his staff. The manager I have spoken with apologizes each time I have called. I can tell she feels very awkward about being stuck in the middle of this situation. He refuses to return my call. Now I am stuck with a $100 gift card for a restaurant that I have no desire to eat at after the unprofessional behavior by the owners. ***Follow up comment to Kristi: I have left multiple messages requesting for the owner to call me back since last February. I have yet to receive a phone call. I understand that you are willing to honor the gift card at your White Bear location (as you are required to do). I'm just not looking forward to going to a restaurant where I have already been treated so poorly from the owners. As a small business owner, when customers call you and have an issue, you call them back- not ignore them for months on end until a negative Yelp review shows up. Yes, the Woodbury owner offered us a $25 discount on our bill- which was very generous of him. But the end result was we were still stuck with an expensive bill that we had not anticipated paying (due to a gift card). Yes, businesses are sold, but I think it was unethical to sell a gift card for a particular location that you were in the process of selling (and had been for 2 months at the time that the gift card was sold). This gift card was purchased last year, at the end of September... Definitely not years ago. The current owner of the Woodbury location told us that he started the process to the buy the restaurant in August and it was sold to him in October. read more

Nothing was bad exactly (except the silverware that had someone else's food stuck to it) but nothing was great. They have a very basic limited menu. Basic eggs bacon and toast... and orange juice that comes in a Tropicana bottle for two people was nearly $30. Add in that you order at the counter (no waitress) and pickup your own silverware, napkins and condiments and it's a pretty mediocre experience for the price. read more

Went here on a whim, ordered a bowl chicken & white rice soup and a bowl of white bean chili, plus my wife and I ordered a beef & cheddar croissant. The service was very quick and courteous. We aren't fancy people so we liked the casual and comfy decor. The soups weren't what we were expecting; however pretty darn good. Now with that I would have given them a 4 star; but the croissant bread wasn't to my liking - it felt and tasted like it wasn't fresh, the beef was thicker and not very tender, plus they left off the cheddar. To our fault we didn't ask for the cheddar to be added, but we were done once we tasted the beef. My wife said she'd go back to try their breakfast, but I think there are many other places out there still to try. read more

Great selection of Harney and Sons teas, lots of great coffees, a wide selection of baked goods, and a menu with good options all around. Order at the counter and have a seat to wait for your food. In my opinion, the sandwiches are a tad overpriced, but good. The breakfast entrees are DELICIOUS; as are their over-sized muffins. You can figure on spending $10-$15 per person for an entree and a beverage; $4-$6 for a baked good and beverage. Its a coffee shop with some surprisingly nice food. I'll echo the words like "cute" and "cozy" other have used. We dropped in sunday for a late lunch (~2). I had a french dip, my wife had the burger with a salad. The french dip had onions and provolone. The au-jus was mild (not a tarry mess) but still had good flavor. It came with some huge pickle slices and chips. My wife's burger was delicious. The tomatoes were not the "rock-atoes" some places like to serve. More chips as a side. The salad was good. We drank the house blend coffee. The only awkward note of our visit was being handed a cup of coffee after my wife's cup had depleted the house blend decanter. Upon questioning whether this was decaf. She said it was and then asked if it was ok. I demurred and asked for the house blend. They were fine with that and quickly made some more. My parents like this place and both times I've gone here it was because I was visiting them. I really do not understand the great reviews people give this place. Four times in a couple years and each time I'm disappointed at the service, food, and coffee. On one of my first visits, I ordered Eggs Benedict, which was, frankly awful. The English muffin was burnt black and inedible. I should have returned the meal and given the store an opportunity to correct it, but I was short on time and didn't want to interrupt my conversation. What annoys me about this is not so much that there was a problem with the order, but that it was such an obvious one. There is no way that someone could take such a blackend, burnt English muffin without knowing it was ruined. The preparer obviously thought she could hide it under the egg and hollandaise sauce. This indicates not mere carelessness but--at best--apathy. That said, my parents eat here all the time a like the food, especially the desserts, and it always seems to be busy when I've been there, so I was willing to assume that this was a rare lapse. And to be fair, I hadn't given them an opportunity to correct the order, so I can't comment on the quality of the food if it had not been ruined. Update. Took my parents out to brunch and they wanted to come here. I still don't get what they like about this place. I had the Dill Eggs Breakfast, which was fine. Also had an oatmeal-raisin cookie, which was good. The coffee and coffee service, however, is disappointing. I started with a cappuccino, which was served in a regular coffee mug and I don't know if it was the espresso beans or the proportions of espresso to foamed milk, but it just tasted weak and milky. For my second cup, I decided to go for a cup of coffee. They ended up taking the cup they made the cappuccino in and just poured coffee into it, without even bothering to rinse the cup creating a weak, kinda milky coffee. I just cannot recommend this place for coffee or breakfast. I avoid most "sweets" and perhaps that's why I am so unimpressed with this place. We came here since we had a Metro dining card. Well, I thought this would be similar to the Woodbury Cravings. But, this is more of a Panera if anything. The prices are okay and the food is pretty decent. We both the half and half with soup and sandwich. I think my lunch was pretty good. I also got a hot apple cider since we had to get 2 drinks for the discount. The location is a bit out of the ways from the Maplewood Mall. From the surroundings you would not think very much about this place. There is a gun shop, a rental car place and a lounge with no apparent windows all around. Let me tell you, this quaint little breakfast and lunch spot is worth the stop. There are a few tables outside for a warm spring day. All service is counter service with a full menu and gluten free menu. There is even a drive in window if you are on the go. They offer 4 coffee selections and many other beverages. The Veggie omelet is yummy. Great jams to go with the grain or sourdough toast and there is even a smile. They also have a great french toast. Not healthy but it looks yummy. Go and have a good time. I ordered take out for Mother's Day. They have a specific menu for the day. The order was not ready at the pick up time. I ordered a quiche, cheesy hash browns, caramel and cinnamon rolls. The quiche and hash browns were ordered to be take and break. The hash browns were in a nice foil pan to be baked. The quiche was warm and ready to serve. I asked the person who brought the quiche to my car why I was getting a ready to serve quiche when I ordered a take and bake quiche. They told me to keep it warm and it would be fine. I was planning to eat four hours after I picked it up. That's why I asked for take and bake. They made a mistake by adding raisins to the cinnamon rolls. When I placed my order they specifically asked me if I wanted raisins and I said no. I called Mother's Day to express my concern. I was quickly told they were busy and would call me back when things slowed down. Two days later I called again. In response to my concerns I was told that the order said the quiche was to be ready to eat. "You could pick the raisins out of the rolls ". "We have a hard time finding help". "This happens all the time " They hung up on me. When I called back I was told, "That happens all the time. Our phones have been like this for five years " The four items cost more than I would have spent at best restaurants in the area for brunch. read more

Cafe Cravings White Bear Lake, I placed an 1st time order online- prepaid. Per the email instructions, Pulled up to the drive thru order board, a female voice told me she would be right with me. After 10 minutes of sitting there I drove to a parking spot and went in told them about the delay and got my order then I said in a loud voice, this place sucks. I wrote them an email about this issue. Because I have heard businesses want to know about bad service. Did not post about it until now. I got a call from a "manager", I didn't get her title; she didn't apologize until after she asked if that was what I wanted, about the third sentence in to the conversation. In that time she said they had been in business 20+ years and it was nice I had finally found them (insult 1). I found out the owner had been unloading supplies the entire time I was sitting at the drive thru order board and didn't notice I was there a long time, we were less than 10 feet apart...(insult 2) after the apology the person on the call said the reason they were so busy was call-in mother's day orders and the employees were busy taking a $200 dollar over the phone rather than deal with my ($30) order (insult 3). The employees told her I might complain and that they said they told me to drive around to the window (I'm slightly OCD, so they did not, I follow directions) I asked why the employee didn't come back on the speaker when I didn't drive around and the "manager" said well people drive off. Then she told me that customers eating in the restaurant complained that I came in upset and yelled at their 10+ year employees (insult 4). So if you love this place, good for you. But they don't need any new customers and if people do drive off, well I guess I'm not the only business they are losing... read more

One of the better breakfast places in the NorthEast suburbs I think, they won't blow your mind but they are able to do traditional breakfast foods really well and for a decent price. Breakfast for 2 at about $15 is fairly easy I think to obtain. Pastries are also delicious for that afternoon coffee break if that's more your cup of tea (or coffee here)! Be careful though as they do have a $5 minimum if you would like to use a credit card! read more
