We had a wonderful brunch here today. I wish there were more places like this where we live (Arlington, TX) but we are just run over with chain restaurants. My wife had delicious grits and a beautifully homemade biscuit, with egg and sausage. My patty melt with a black bean burger was everything I wanted: buttery, crunchy on the outside, cheesy and hot on the inside, with lots of grilled onions. My side of grilled vegetables was clearly done by someone who understand vegetables are best barely cooked over high heat, just a little brown around the edges. Ended with a slice of pecan pie (me) and a vanilla latte with a caramel swirl (my wife). I didn't perceive any delay in service at all. Our server Clarence was always bringing refills of coffee, water and soda, and we got our food in an acceptable amount of time. We would definitely return. read more

We went here after a day at the Memphis Zoo. The service was amazing, however the the food was the opposite. We payed we payed $11 for a soggy waffle and a burnt piece of chicken and $10 for cold "hot" cocoa and an expired cinnamon roll. even though the service was good I will not be coming back here any time soon. read more

This is a great spot to enjoy breakfast, lunch or brunch. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. The prices are reasonable. Karen was our waitress and she is an absolute sweetheart. She made sure we had everything we needed. I think she was a huge part of why we enjoy the cafe so much. She greeted us with a smile and answered all question we had. The wait time for our food was about 30min, and thats the reason, I couldn't give 5 stars, but that was no fault of hers. My kitchen sink omelet was stuffed with meat and veggies and might I add it was delicious and very fulfilling. We had reservations for 10:15, we were promptly seated on time, ordered by 10:30 and then waited an entire hour for our food. The over medium eggs were so runny and greasy that my spouse didn't even eat them and cold toast and cold grits.. after an hour of waiting. Our server never asked why the plate was never touched. We placed an extra order of bacon that we ended up canceling because we decided we didn't want to wait any longer, we just wanted to leave by that point. Only to have our server tell us she hadn't put it in anyway. Cafe Electric is soul, eccentric, and contemporary all wrapped up in a ball. And I really enjoyed looking at all the coke-cola posters and star gold soda advertisements that are posted for all to see. The staff is very hands on and super friendly and that makes me smile. The service was with a smile and it was quite speedy. Warmth is just as important in a restaurant just as important as its food. I ordered 2 eggs scrambled hard with toast and taters and to my surprise the taters are potatoes and yams. I really enjoyed it along with the Espresso. Altogether my total was $8.41. Yummy stuff at cafe eclectic! We first tried three of their lattes, which were delicious! We tried the creme brulatte, karamel sutra, and a dark chocolate mocha! All were very good! Then we tried an omelette, granola (with almond milk + berries), and the biscuit with sausage gravy. The biscuit was so good and fresh, don't miss out on ordering one! I live literally 3 minutes from this amazing place and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Of course because it's Sunday it's uber crowded,so be prepared for that if you're going on the weekends. Not really the place to get much work done. From what I could see the wait was around 30 mins. However, I sat at the bar. My order was quickly taken at the bar and my entire wait was all of 15 mins before I ate. I had the Cream Brulatte and Challah French Toast with a side of Porcellinos bacon...yum! My Brulatte was everything I expected. The raw sugar sprinkled on top made it even better. Challah French Toast was to die for! Typically, I'm not a blue berry topping kind of girl but the fresh berry topping and syrup was pretty good. Another Broken Egg had a long waiting so thought of giving this place a try, I ordered a caffe latte and the salmon Benedict, it took the coffee 35 minutes to be ready and the eggs Benedict 45 minutes to be ready, in a normalized coffee place when a customer waits so long its a norm to give him a complimtery thing but that wasn't the case but whatever. The food and coffee was ok, felt like was made in a rush, and 1 minute after I finished eating the waitress came up with the credit card machine and asked "are you ready to pay?" Like seriously? I was actually planing on ordering another thing but didn't because of that, this is the only place ever someone "rushed" me to pay, aren't you supposed to ask if there anything else I want to order? Or maybe care a bit and ask if everything tastes good after making me wait 45 minutes? Clearly careless. VERY disappointing visit. read more

But the counter guy who said that was being a dude-bag. AND, now to our most recent experience. I may have learned the trick to Big Eclectic. We went back early on Saturday morning, and not only was the place packed with young people who like to wake up at the crack of dawn (the toddler set and their handlers), it was also the best food and service I've ever had there. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever been to Eclectic for breakfast before, but boy, is it a treat! The Rachel wrap sans bacon was grill-icious (big fan of the grilled tortilla and fresh avocado), my husband dug his Spanish omelet, and the biscuits were JUST like my mom used to make -- none of the coulda-been-frozen, overly-greasy flour bombs you find in some Southern restaurants. What's more, we were out of there in thirty minutes and headed to the playground with our antsy toddler. Bottom line: I think I may have found our new favorite Midtown breakfast spot, and it's a place I knew was there all along. read more

Visited here on a Sunday morning (about 11:15) before our road trip to Nashville. The parking was a little bit of a hassle because the parking lot only fits about 8 cars! We were lucky to find parking on the street across from the restaurant instead of having to park in front of someone's house. The restaurant was pretty packed, but we only waited about 10 minutes to be seated. The breakfast menu had very good and interesting selections! My fiance and I both ordered pumpkin spice lattes for drinks. It was so good! Way better than Starbucks pumpkin spice latte! The menu option that jumped out at me was the Bacon waffle! I love bacon and I love waffles. So why not get a waffle that has bacon in it? As a side I ordered the grits. My fiance ordered biscuits, over easy eggs with bacon and potatoes. Everything tasted delicious and was exactly what we needed before the drive. My fiance also ordered the bacon cheddar biscuit to-go because he was curious to how it tasted. This was my first time here. I like the location and according to the cashier, this is the original location. It's bigger than the location near the University of Memphis. I ordered breakfast to go. Two eggs scrambled with cheese, 3 turkey sausage links, biscuit, and potato hash. I also ordered a cafe au lait. The eggs were scrambled nicely and they were fluffy. I added cheddar cheese of course. The turkey sausage links were moist and not tough at all like your typical links. I did not particularly enjoy the potato hash, it was julienne style white potatoes and sweet potatoes.The cafe au lait was so good. I added just 1 pack of sugar in the raw but it was super smooth and creamy. I will come back next time and sit down to get the full experience. All of the employees were very friendly and didn't mind my gawking at everything. I'll be back! read more

I always enjoy Cafe Eclectic on McLean. They have something for everyone, which is great when one has visitors from out of town. I've yet to taste a dish there that I haven't liked. My favorite thing on the menu is The Hendrix scramble, hands down. I've had really good salads, solid wraps and sandwiches as well. Great coffee-- I mean really it doesn't get much better than Illy. Their espresso drinks are good, but I like to keep it simple and order the drip coffee. Also, the pastries--for the love. Eclectic really shines in the pastries arena. My current fave is the lemon blueberry scone. My only beef with this place is the service. Everyone on staff is friendly, but tend to disappear or ignore your table once your food has arrived. Getting a refill can be a challenge. But I keep going back because I know the food is always good, it's great people watching, and Illy coffee calls my name. All that being said, the service today was great. Rhonda was our server and she checked on us frequently, kept our coffee cups full, and was very efficient. What a difference! read more

Came in for my the first time Tuesday morning, (November 27th), immediately loved the atmosphere and the aroma coming from what I'm assuming were freshly baked goods. I had two other people with me and it didn't take us long to get seated at all. Our server's name was Karen and she was awesome; very cool, calm, and collected, but attentive and always there at the right time. She recommended the Apple Cider to me and I had two cups it was that good. For my meal, I went a little over board, not realizing how healthy the proportions would be. I had the vegan pancakes, two eggs, turkey sausage, and a cup of the fruit and yogurt. EVERYTHING was good. I'd never had vegan pancakes before and I've been missing out. We wanted brunch and came across the place. I really liked the decor and the vibe here is pretty chill. We got a macha and the flavoring was good. It has a slight spiciness to it that I surprisingly like. I just wish it had an art on it. I got the jj burger and it was pretty good. The caramelized onions were sweet and went well with the meat. However, the bun got a little soggy and started falling apart. In my pinion, if the bread was a little thicker or if it was grilled a little longer for more crunch that problem would've been prevented. The hash that came with it wasn't very good though. I felt like it wasn't very crunchy and was bland. It was chewy and that was a little weird. The service here was exceptional though! Very charming cafe in Memphis. My husband and I got breakfast here when we were visiting his brother in Memphis a few weekends ago. They have a large and varied menu (even for coffee), from classic breakfast dishes to creative! I chose something from their "Lighter Side" part of the menu - The Funky Salmon: smoked salmon, cream cheese, fresh spinach, tomato, and cucumber on a toasted English muffin. It was light and healthy and yet still really tasty. My husband really enjoyed his chicken biscuits. The menu is also very vegetarian- and vegan-friendly if you or anyone in your party enjoys veg options. This cafe is a Memphis institution, and you can see why. One of my most regularly visited spots. If you like cream cheese/spicy food- hit up that Diablo wrap! So good. Black bean wrap is also amazing. I loved the smokin' Diablo as well, but they took it off the menu. Coffee drinks are good, the desserts and pastries are just ok. Great place to study, plenty of room and never super loud. This is one of my most favorite places for brunch. We go to the cooper young location. There is always a wait but so worth it. There coffee is just amazing, soooooo good. My husband is the biggest fan of their black bean wraps. If you are a vegetarian, you ll go nuts for it. For breakfast, I had an omelette with goat cheese (I absolutely love goat cheese, so any place that has it is a win in my book!), mushrooms, tomatoes and spinach. My omelet came with biscuits, which were very fluffy and fresh. My boyfriend had a scramble with biscuits and a side of bacon. Both of our meals were delicious and very filling. The prices were great too! I think most of their breakfasts are around $10, and you get plenty of food. The atmosphere is very welcoming and bright.
