Caffe de Olla Menudo Asada & Pollo Combination Plate
Kia A.

I always love Mexican breakfast! I'm glad my husband discovered this relaxing spot. We had Asada & Pollo Combination Plate, Menudo, café de olla, and boing mango. I enjoyed the food! All staff are attentive, approachable, and quick to attend to guests, from the receptionist to the servers and the Cashier. We also bought plants. The owner is nice! Come and check out this spot.

I really wanted to like this place because it looks cute and has potential, but honestly the experience was terrible from the moment we arrived. The parking situation is an absolute nightmare -- tiny, stressful, and nearly impossible unless you want to circle around forever. Then came the wait. About an hour and a half just to get seated, and another incredibly hour and a half wait for the food to come out. What made it worse is that they don't even seem to have any organized system for managing customers. They literally write names down by hand in a notebook to keep track of the waitlist, which feels ridiculous considering how busy the place gets. The hostess's attitude was also really unpleasant. Not welcoming at all, seemed irritated whenever people asked about the wait, and overall made the experience feel even more frustrating. The food might be okay, but nothing is worth wasting hours of your day dealing with bad organization, terrible parking, and poor customer service. There are plenty of better breakfast spots in the Valley without all this chaos.

I came here on Mother's Day and honestly loved the whole vibe of this place. The only thing I'd say is that the food did take a long while to come out, but considering how packed it was for Mother's Day, it was understandable. The atmosphere is SO welcoming. Right when you walk in, you can smell the authentic Mexican cheese and the firewood they use to cook, which gives it that cozy ranch smell that reminds me of Mexico. It seriously feels like you're hanging out in a ranch in Mexico. The place is inside a nursery, so there are plants and greenery everywhere which makes it feel super peaceful and unique. The food was super tasty and authentic, the pricing is good, and the staff was attentive and kind even during such a busy day. They also have tons of seating and an exposed kitchen which is really cool to see. To check out, you just pay at the front register which was easy and convenient. Totally recommend this place!!!! even if it's just to grab a cofecito and some conchas!

Carne asada with half cooked rice Carne asada con arroz mitad cocinada

Review in Español y English English: My family and I were excited to come here, but we left feeling very disappointed. 1. A 2.5-hour wait to get our food is ridiculous. I can understand if the food was extraordinary, there would be exceptions but sadly, it wasn't. 2. The food lacked flavor and had a very generic palate. Our rice was half way cooked which they did replace. Nothing really stood out. The only thing I can say is that the menudo tasted clean. 3. The price for the portions felt like an insult after having to wait that long. You got very little for what you paid. 4. Selling the idea of hacienda-style food and then serving store bought tortillas just adds insult to injury. 5. The service was decent, nothing special. They were mostly just trying to keep people from walking away. I really wanted to like this place, but sadly it was very disappointing. It honestly felt like a scam, and the sad thing is that most of the clientele were working-class Latinos trying to enjoy a day off, and everyone looked disappointed. Every table around us was waiting the same amount of time, or even longer. It just felt like the community was being taken advantage of. On top of all of this they charge $5 to use your card. From my understanding it is illegal here in the US for a merchant to charge you to use your card. So that's totally wrong. Look it up, inform yourself. Nuestro arroz no estaba completamente cocinada.

Open seating in the nursery makes for a beautiful setting. Plus my company, the prettiest flower of them all.

What novel idea! A cafe/restaurant in the heart of a nursery! Who would have thought? But it somehow works. And I'm sure the two businesses have established a kind of synergy where they both tend to bring business to one another. We stopped in for the first time today, and the reviews that call it a "hidden gem" are correct. You might even find yourself driving past the place without realizing it! So definitely follow the Google maps guidance. Down to the nuts and bolts. We really enjoyed the setting. It's all outdoor seating, so be aware, you may have to contend with nature in her various forms (weather, insects, etc). But our visit was very pleasant and comfortable. Walking in we noticed some really pretty landscaping and ornamentation, which definitely added to its charm. The seating is rustic (pro tip: maybe don't wear white pants). But there's plenty of shade, and the views of the surrounding greenery are very pleasing. Our servers were kind and polite, and always responsive. Unfortunately, on the day we visited, they were out of many items, which is the main reason for the 3-star rating. They didn't have menudo, horchata, Jarrito, or any decent beer selection aside from Pacifico and Modelo (but not Negro). Our server was very apologetic, but we felt that there could have been some kind of concession in light of the substitutions. We ordered a quesadilla platter and a fiesta bowl. The quesadilla was pretty standard, and came with no sides. The fiesta bowl was very good. The beef, especially. We did order waters to start with, which were completely forgotten, which is unfortunate, as there were five employees we could see, and not many patrons at all. Our appetizer, the guacamole Chico, was also very tasty, but had some soggy, undercooked tortilla chips in the mix. All in all, we think Cafe Escondido has a great deal of potential, with some attention given to the above. But for now it's a 3-star. We do plan to come back again and see if maybe today was just a "one-off."

For $25 ,you can't beat that price for the delicious flavor. The meat was soft and practically melted in my mouth. Tortillas were freshly made when I ordered it which makes the flavor even better. My buddy and I came here on an off chance cuz initially went to Key Burger but it was closed and we stumbled upon Carnitas Don Cuco. They had a great family pack deal for $25 with beans, rice, salsa, a bowl of carnitas and fresh pressed hand made corn tortillas. Carnitas - great flavor savory and smoke notes to the pork. Also, just the right amount of fat and lean meat. Not overly greasy compared to other carnitas I've had. Beans - great flavor of beans. Not from a can. Great seasoning on it. Corn tortillas - real deal fresh pressed and homemade style corn tortillas to go with our carnitas. This was definitely the highlight of the entire pack and put it all together. All in all I'd come here again just after my match. Go with cash only. They love that. Cash is still and always will be king.
