I picked this spot out to go to for brunch with a Yelp friend. Mostly because I've seen reviews for years and years of people raving about their pancakes. One of the best pancake spots in Brooklyn. So the word on the street. Cheap drinks. Homey atmosphere. Tons of things on the menu for everyone. It was a cute spot. Definitely easier to get a seat without a reservation than Verde next door. You know what happened though? After thinking in my head about these pancakes and wondering how great they really are I didn't feel like eating pancakes. So I got mac and cheese. Stares at my feet. The outdoor area is kind of cute. It wasn't super well heated but it wasn't too bad either. I think we were just sitting out there on like a 30 something degree day back in February. First of all - the prices on everything have gone up from older menus. Drinks are now pretty expensive. But I kind of figured. They've gone up in price everywhere. So I just ordered water. The mac and cheese? It wasn't rave worthy amazing. It was baked. Which I don't mind. The portion size was really pretty large for its value. The thing that gets me is if it's baked with bread crumbs it better still hold it's creaminess. Instead of being creamy it was weirdly oily and my stomach felt like death had warmed over on my 3 mile walk home. Like my mind was willing me to walk faster/struggle run to get home to my porcelain chamber pot. My friend on the other hand ordered the stuffed nutella french toast and her commentary was: "I wish I got something savory instead". So I guess we both didn't have our expectations met. But I'm still giving it 4 stars because I really want to believe they have some of the best pancakes in Brooklyn and that we both just didn't order the right things. Fluffy, cloud-like, dreamy pancakes! These are some of the best pancakes in the city and just the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning! I love cafe luluc, they're old school in the best way possible. I asked for a cappuccino and they don't offer alternative milks which was okay with me but just be aware of that fact. That being said, they make the best traditional cappuccino out there. It's so fluffy and the foam is just perfect. It's a joy to drink They also offer outdoor seating but it's very limited so I would wait for warmer weather to come here. The inside space is quite small but cozy and they follow covid guidelines. Stopped in here for brunch today and was impressed! I got here pretty early, so it was easy to get a table. They have a great outdoor set up. They brought a heater right up next to my table - so not cold at all despite it being a cold, windy day. My waiter was quick to take my order. I already knew I wanted the pancakes! He brought out my coffee with some steamed milk on the side. Refills come with the coffee order! The pancakes came out hot and delicious! It comes with syrup, but I also got the side of Nutella... because why not really! The pancakes are huge and FLUFFY! It's a stack of two and it was more than enough! The man in the front who asked for my vaccine card stood and literally blocked me from walking further. Of course, I showed him my proof. The best pancakes (including better than Clinton St Baking Co imho). These babies are fluffy and the edges are oh so buttery and CRISPY. The crispiness is THE best. I've yet to try a pancake anywhere else that has crispy buttery edges like this. They're served with super fresh strawberries and blueberries. There are some downsides tho - Luluc is incredibly popular and crowded during breakfast/brunch time. Wait times can suck. It also means sitting really close to your neighbors and hitting your legs against the table. The bathroom leaves a bit to be desired. During my last visit, the cleaning fumes were so incredibly strong. Finally, Luluc is cash only -- so bring that $$. read more

I still love Luluc even though things seemed a bit hectic with the addition of the outdoor sidewalk, street seating. I was happy to sit on the sidewalk as opposed to the street, because I am quickly learning that it isn't really my favorite thing to dine in the midst of noisy, smelly traffic! When I arrived there seemed to be some miscommunication as a group was about to be seated but was standing apart from one another an another couple with a small child who told me they were told a 20 minute wait. There was no wait for a table fo to but it took them a few to clear it and at times it took a little longer than I would have liked to get the server's attention. I had the pancakes which I remembered as being one of my favorite ever, and these were delicious (it was a special with chocolate chips) but quite thick as if made in a skillet or so. Still quite light and fluffy. I also tried the pulled pork sandwich which was good with melted fontina on a perfectly toasted, just toasted enough buttery bread. The garlic aoli it came with was definitely a lovely edition. Their fries are still the same as always, thin and crispy. My bellini was delicious, and felt like a 'deal' for being under $10. As we are currently living in CoVid times I was happy to see this restaurant taking extra precaution to consider guests safety. The wait time on a Saturday at 2pm was 15 minutes which was not bad at all. There is sidewalk seating and backyard as well. We waited for the backyard which is intimate and charming. Upon being seated the waiter placed a partition in between us and the next table. I was so glad for that. I do believe that this place has some of the best pancakes. Fluffy center with crisp edges. If you like syrup like me you might need a little extra than average to soak up the pancake but it's so tasty . I also had the spinach & goat cheese quiche that comes with salad and fries. Delicious. And not for nothing the fries!!! Super good. I've been on a French fry kick for a few days though , lol. My friend has the pancakes and the spinach and goat cheese omelette with grilled chicken. We didn't have a reservation and we were seated right away when we came around 2:30pm. We sat in the outside patio on this cold Saturday. There are heaters available so we didn't mind. We had the patio all to ourselves which was nice. But since we were out of sight, they took longer / less frequent to check on us. However, they were all friendly and helpful. This is our favorite place because of the crispy pancakes - which did not disappoint. We tried the Nutella French toast this time and it was delicious. It can get too sweet so have something plain on the side to switch back and forth. We also tried the crab cake - no good. Hardly had any crab meat, was kind of dry, and we just didn't like the taste. The Eggs Benedict - 5/5: comes with a side of salad and French fries. The fries were very crisp and the salad was AMAZING! I wished I could get more salad in place of the fries. Also the portions were huge which fueled me up after my morning run French toast - 3/5: has apple compote, fruit and syrup. On the last day of my week-long vacation in New York, my boyfriend and I stopped into Cafe LULUc to have brunch. In all honesty, we had actually picked another spot for brunch originally, but once we realized we had made the mistake, we were already seated and since the staff was so friendly to begin with, we decided to stay. The server came over and took our order, and I saw that it was 12:36 when we finished making our choices, and he wrote them down. At about 12:58, my boyfriend kindly asked the man if he knew about how much longer the food was going take to come out? To which the server came back with; "Good food takes time, my friend. It's your job to sit and wait." My boyfriend is not confrontational and is incredibly mild tempered. I, however, on the other hand am not. After the smart mouth server made his snarky comment, he rushed over to the kitchen, grabbed our food and all but chucked the plates at our table. After he rushed off to get condiments, he returned back, and I quipped back with; "I'm sorry if our questions inconvenience you. However, we are a bit light-headed and hungry, so I didn't think it's such a far-fetched question to ask, how much longer the food would take." The server double-downed and said; "Well, it's common sense. It takes time to cook good food." The exchange abruptly ended after I cut him off, with a choice few words, in which I will not waste anymore time on in this review. I'll simply say, that he was straightened out immediately, and was switched out by someone else to take care of my table. Now, onto the food. To quote my rude former server; "good food takes time." Indeed it does. However, THIS FOOD was not good, and should have really been sent back to the kitchen. First and foremost, all of the food was lukewarm, at best. I ordered eggs benedict with salmon, salad and the dish came with shoestring French fries. The salmon was the equivalent to a salt lick, the fries were soggy and the salad was drenched in an overly salted vinaigrette. Luckily I ordered the hollandaise sauce on the side, because that was like tasting a lemony salt custard. My boyfriend had an open faced western omelet, and the eggs were overcooked, and the peppers and onions were "just not good" to him. He also had a very soggy and wilted salad, that he wasn't happy with either. Towards the end of our visit, our new server was incredibly attentive and very apologetic for our troubles. However, he could do little to repair what his coworker and the kitchen staff had already done. After settling the bill, we had one last treat, as we witnessed one of the other male employees come out from behind the bar, stand at the front door entryway and proceed to do a couple of pull-ups in front of the dining room. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have insisted to leave Cafe LULUc, and go find our original brunch selection. I have a couple of trips tentatively planned to return to Brooklyn, before I intend to permanently relocate to NY, and I will ensure that neither I nor my loved ones ever set foot here. read more

I've been here a million times and I will come here a million more. I love absolutely everything about this place. Cafe Luluc is also on my Top 3 Mac and Cheese list for NYC. Sometimes they don't serve it with the cheese crust but it's still very good. I love coming here for brunch! Dinner here is okay but since I consider their pancakes to be their staple dish --which they don't offer during dinner hours on weekdays, only on weekends-- it makes dinner a lot less fun. I'm happy that they don't offer unlimited mimosas, it keeps the place classy. Usually places with unlimited drinks become trashy very quickly. Overall, this is my absolute favorite brunch place in NYC and I hope it stays around forever. read more

Really cute and relatively inexpensive brunch spot in Carroll Gardens with really solid food. Wait can be a little long (maybe 30-45 minutes) but bar seats are easy to come by. I had a Bloody Mary the last time I went which was spicy and peppery, just the way I like it. Would love it if they did bottomless as I'm not a huge brunch eater otherwise. The menu is comprised of traditional brunch fare; eggs benedict, pancakes, french toast, quiche, omelettes, etc. While simple, it's a breath of fresh air among a number of NYC brunch spots that, well, just try way too hard to be different. The egg dishes come with a salad and (super crispy, thin, delicious) fries, and portions are filling but not excessive. The eggs in the benedict that I had this weekend were cooked perfectly and the hollandaise was delicious as well. I'm generally a savory-over-sweet kind of person, especially in the mornings, so I haven't tried the pancakes yet but I've heard they're awesome. My boyfriend liked the french toast that he had as well. Place is cute on the inside although because it's consistently busy, it gets a little noisy. Service was friendly and familiar. Taking off a star because it's cash only. I don't typically carry cash with me so the fact that my friend and I had to leave to find an ATM in order to pay for brunch was annoying. I get that credit card companies charge businesses, but I'd gladly pay a couple dollars extra or whatever to be able to use cards at this place. Was debating between a 1 and 2 star, but had to go with 1 hopefully so this review gets their attention. Saw and read the hype about the pancakes, which they fry/bake really well. Will agree they are pretty good and unique. However they are going overboard on their pricing and charges. First I noticed the prices have basically doubled from several years ago. I typically reference the pictures of the menus on yelp from years prior, but the pictures for Luluc menus only go back 3 years. A friend of ours wrote a yelp review 5 years ago commenting how the pancakes were ~$7 then; today it's $12.50. We had a good decent meal - pancakes, eggs Benedict. The waiter actually messed up my order - I asked for ham but they gave us bacon with the Benedict. No big deal to me, didn't mention it to them. Shock came when they gave us the bill, which was hand-written. Subtotal was $25.50. They charged us $2.50 for tax - that's 10%! Then below that, they charged us an automatic $6 for service fee, that's 23.5%!! They never mentioned they have an automatic service fee. They have on their menu that it's cash only, but not anything about the service fee. We as customers have the right to know what we are going to be charged. When we eat at nice places like Gramercy Tavern, they will tell you they will charge you a service fee up front and that you don't have to worry about tip. This place ain't Gramercy Tavern. Didn't want to fight the bill, because the workers there who you can tell are not native English speakers, and disputing the service fee is taking away money from them which is not what we want. I'm sure they weren't going rogue and were doing the upcharging themselves; it has to be a systemic thing from up top. Anyway, because of this and despite how decent their food is, can't recommend this place to anyone until they fix their pricing/charge problem. My friend swears by this place. We've been coming to this location for years and never actually getting a table because this place is packed and trust me, its packed for a reason! They know what they are doing at Cafe Luluc! I'll start with fge decor. I love the antiques in the cafe that make you feel like you're in an old french bakery. They even have the old school cash registers. (They dont take debit or credit cards) I ordered the the eggs benny. Let me tell you, those eggs were poached to perfection. Just yummy!! They are very generous with their greens which i appreciated cause i was full by the time i left. If you come here and dont order the pancakes, you will be doing yourself a disservice. These have to be one of the best servings of pancakes I've ever had. They were so fluffy and not too sweet. They can with whipped cream and fresh fruit. Just spendid!
