What a pleasant surprise! After walking to try and eat at Richard Walker Pancake house and the line was very long to be seated, we found this place online and they had a short wait to set up our table. Its a super cute place that had the most amazing breakfast food! First off, everything was delicious! We especially loved the gluten free blueberry cornbread waffle which i had never had before, absolutely delicious! And the sausage was so tasty, not sure if it was grass fed, but it certainly tasted healthier and better than your traditional breakfast sausage. One of our favorite breakfast stops for the past 20 years! The food is incredible! But it's even better when we luck out on a Saturday that Chelsea & Kelsey are working! The service is over the top when these 2 are working. They know our order each time & whenever we want to try something new their recommendations are right on. Cafe 222 is such a hidden gem! Just down the street from the Convention center this small breakfast spot has limited seating and even less seating right now. You can get on the YELP waitlist to make sure you don't have to wait too long to get a seat by the time you get there though. We didn't wait too long once we got there and were able to have a nice outdoor seating. The food is so fresh and filling. So many great options to choose from. The service is absolutely out of this world. Our server kept us happy with condiments and full coffee the whole time we were eating. He took such good care of us during our breakfast here. The food alone would be enough for me to come back but the service just puts this place over the top to make you feel much more welcome to come back for next time. If you are looking for a smaller place with some tasty breakfast options try and sneak away from some of the chains around San Diego and give Cafe 222 a try. Ate breakfast here four days in a row since I was in town for the Mets v Padres series and staying down the street. Day 1: Saw on the menu that the Peanut Butter and Banana Stuffed French Toast was listed on the Food Network as "One of My Favorite Things". I asked the waitress if it was one of her favorite things. She said no. I tried it anyway. I should have listened to her. The French toast was not toasty enough and was overwhelmed by the peanut butter and bananas. It was like a warm peanut butter and banana sandwich. I could not finish it, and mind you, I can eat....... Day 2: I ordered something off menu, one of my New York favorites. An egg white sandwich on well-done rye toast, with turkey bacon, raw onions and raw tomatoes. Add some black pepper and a splash of hot sauce. Perfect. Just like home. Day 3: As we were seated, the waitress informed us we just missed Josh Thole, the Mets catcher. Oh well.
