We enjoyed a nice breakfast here after having a bit too much to drink the night before. My friend ordered a ham and cheese breakfast sandwich and some toast which she enjoyed. I got a savory crepe; chicken, spinach, and carmelized onions. The flavor was really good and it was a large portion. The service was good, but I found it odd that they only had plastic spoons and cups and the one server didn't seem to know what he was doing, but the other one was great. I ordered the hibiscus tea which was very red, it was good, but was tough on my stomach that day so I couldn't finish it, but they did offer me a to-go cup. They had lots of great sounding coffee drinks and teas. Nice casual place for breakfast. read more

I was visiting for a day so I wanted to make sure all of my meals were on point. after carefully reading the reviews and studying the photos and the convenient location, I chose Cafe 26. I ordered the ham & cheese crepe and the grilled chicken sandwich. The ham & cheese had the right about of ham & cheese, melted with green on the side. The crepe mix was very great. The grilled chicken sandwich was AMAZING. It has pieces of mixed vegetables with grilled chicken with egg. Nice soft texture sandwich. If you like spicy, this is for you. I asked for extra hot sauce on the sauce but you don't really need it. Perfect amount of spiciness. The iced coffee was good too. I just loved every bite and sip. I ordered ahead and the food was ready within 10minutes. It was an amazing way to start the day. read more

Shashuka, one of the servers explained, is Egyption in origin. Tomatoes, sourdough, veggies, soft eggs and feta created a symphony for my mouth and tummy!!! Yummy. My other half enjoyed a lovely western omelette, home fries, salad and toast. Also enjoyed a "party cocktail" yogurt smoothie. Everything was fantastic. So grateful we happened upon this place. I also meant to go to another restaurant nearby, but decided to stop by here after seeing the line outside. Food I've tried: - CHICKEN MOZARELLA SANDWICH ($9): the ciabatta was nice and crispy. Stopped by here on a whim and it was 100% worth it. Service was fast (though I went on Monday morning so take that with a grain of salt) and attentive. I got an orange juice and the green Supreme sandwich which had egg, arugula, tomato, avocado and a Cafe 26 sauce/aioli on sourdough. I would've preferred the outside of the bread to be a little bit more toasted like the inside was but it was still a tasty sandwich. It was also served with a small salad and breakfast potatoes, both topped with the same cafe 26 sauce. If I were to make one recommendation it would be to GET THE ORANGE JUICE. You can tell it was actually squeezed fresh and it is some of the best orange juice I've had in my life. I enjoy pulp in my oj so beware for those who don't, but I'd still encourage you to try it. I came here for Saturday breakfast after viewing the line waiting to get into a rival brunch restaurant up the street. It was no sloppy second! Best tomato, spinach, and feta omelette I've had lately, and the home fries were spicy with onions and pepper (spice). Reasonable prices for the location. read more

Cute little place n the middle of downtown. You walk in and order at the cashier. The team cooks delicious and it's all about the presentation here. Definitely a hidden gem. I walked in since my mother in law raves about a sandwich she loves from here. They serve omelets, crepes, breakfast pastries, regular coffee, upscale lattes, etc. They have two people tables and benches. Hands down recommend, it's not pretentious like some cafes in the area. Just a down to earth time. I would recommend adding artwork at different angles only because I sat in a spot that I had nothing to distract me with. They are offering Dine in, at least at the time of this review. Doesn't look like much on the outside but when I tell you everything was SOOOO GOOD!! I couldn't decide between the lox and cream cheese sandwich or the shakshuka (which I've never had before) went with the shakshuka to try new things and OMGGGG I was not disappointed. A great hole in a wall place. The cafe is located near downtown crossing & Boston commons. There's a variety of food on the menu, including croissants, omelettes, crepes, and even shakshuka. I had the strawberry chocolate crepe and it was of amazing quality. Pros: Decent prices, good location, cozy atmosphere, menu items that offer you the options to either grab your food to go or stay in to enjoy a plate of warm shakshuka and savory crepes. I can see why this cafe is pretty popular despite its small size and morning rush. The only con is that the place is a bit understaffed so you might have to wait a bit before the server comes around. I really wanted to like this place. I ordered some lunch to go (Turkey club, no mayo add avocado). I get back to my office and I guess they ran out of panini bread (which is understandable) but instead of communicating that to me while I was there, they decided to throw my sandwich together on regular wheat bread. I called them and they were apologetic and asked me to come back and they'll remake my sandwich. I leave my office for a second time for them to correct their mistake and what I got in return was a pathetic excuse for a sandwich. One slice of deli turkey meat, 3 slices of tomatoes, brown and black wilted lettuce, and NO BACON! Also, you shouldn't be advertising 'avocado' on your menu when it's NOT, what you serve is an avocado spread :( read more

Great place for quick home made breakfast. I had the shakshuka mediterranean breakfast and fresh squeeze orange juice fyi no refills. My only complaint is that you shouldn't expect restaurant service the waiter will not visit your table and I had to wait awhile for my ticket and to pay. The desserts looked delicious and I plan to try other fresh juices they offer. The place can't get busy on the weekend so finding a table could be difficult. Prices also did go up at least for my plate. Definitely a great spot to visit I enjoyed my meal. read more

If I save even one Yelper from the disappointment of a fruitless trip, my own such trip will not be wasted. I had a goal today - pop by Cafe 26 to try the "pillows of heaven" coconut bars as lauded on Heidi Z's review on 12/22/2014, and swing over to pick up some pre-ordered mac & cheese at another stop. Task 1 - failure. Sure, they had chocolate chip cookies, brownies, tiramisu, a number of cakes, but no dessert with coconut in it. I asked the guy at the register when it might next be available, and he said that they don't carry any dessert with coconut. Sadness... Their space is rather nice though, with a small dining in area up front. Sandwiches are primarily in the mid $7 region, with savory crepes not far ahead at about $8. Perhaps I'll give their savories a chance sometime when I have time for a walk and stay. read more

Decent spot for breakfast in Boston. Very clean (I'm getting a sense that business are very conscientious of cleaning these days, outta of all this pandemic: that's a positive) Unfortunately there is an atmosphere of homelessness and purposeless roaming these streets, which makes society in general uncomfortable and it's bad for business, so be aware. Over here they don't serve pork, so bacon and sausage substitutes on the menu which taste good, well I liked it. The was served in a nice glass bottle, only the taste wasn't too good for me. I ordered 2 scrambled eggs and sausage, it comes with hash brown and toast. I like it, the hash brown reminds of Mcdonalds, only double the size. I also ordered strawberry nutella crepes, they were the high point of the morning, nothing crazy spectacular but I like it. read more

Tasty and low key. Just what we needed before a day of touristing. Son had the loaded crepes and I had a pain au chocolat. I managed to snag a piece of Nutella covered fruit before he attempted to lick the plate clean. People around us had a variety of egg and meat dishes, all of which were a hearty serving. I didn't hear one complaint from anyone. Side note: they are halal so no pork products, but that didn't seem to slow down any of the diners eating their sausage and halal ham. read more

I picked this place out for breakfast in Downtown Boston based on good reviews-- especially ones mentioning the Mint Lemonade. I was a bit surprised when we arrived how much this place really is a cafe. It's small in size and was pretty busy when we came. Our waiter seemed frazzled the whole time with his tables, but we was very attentive and friendly for our entire visit! Price-Wise, it's not bad at all for a meal. Under $10 can feed you here, which is pretty affordable in my book. Portions aren't huge though, but they are plenty for a meal. If you split it into two though, you might be snackish right away. Atmosphere-wise, it's heavy on that casual, cafe part of the name. The tables are that cheap looking cafe style. Water came out in Styrofoam cups. Just know what it is and you won't be disappointed since they don't claim to be a fancy place. Now, the most important thing, the food. First off, that Mint Lemonade that brought me? It was 100% worth the $3 and the visit. I love mint, so that's part of my fan-girling, but they actually blend the mint in so the drink is green. The portion is ample, it had to have been around 16+ ounces, I'd guess 24? It was cold and tart and refreshing in the surprising spring heat. Food-wise, I had the shashuka since it sound great and it was well-documented here on Yelp. I was pleased with it, though it's not the best I've ever had. The best part of the dish was the flavor in the tomato sauce itself. The cheese was very blocky and had that sort of bland flavor of a cheaper variety and the eggs didn't incorporate great into the dish. I might be mistaken, but I expect eggs in shashuka to have been cooked in the sauce so they really meld into it, but there seemed like they were added on top after cooking separately. But, the spice and flavor was good, I left happy, just not blown away. Overall, add it to your Downtown Boston list for when you need something fast casual or a snack/drink between other stops. read more

Cozy little cafe that serves crepes, either savory or sweet. I think I wasnt a big fan of the banana almond crepe. The crepe wasnt great and it was just basic. I believe their savory options are better. Mocha latte is good, could be better (dunkin donuts taste better). Prices are decent. Just a tip, if you get moved in the back of the shop, theres a chance you will have no LTE reception. There is a wifi for the cafe but they dont post the password anywhere. Service is slower than average, especially on peak times. It seems because only 2 people are serving, taking orders, billing, etc. Took about half an hour to check out. Overall I am giving one star less because students work here and im not a complete monster. read more

This eclectic little joint was fabulous! For starters, the staff was friendly and so helpful. Per the staff suggestion, we started with Moroccan tea and Saudi coffee, both very good and very different. Tried the western omelette, good and plentiful, as well as the Mediterranean breakfast.... This is a casual, self serve breakfast spot that serves a variety of breakfast items such as breakfast sandwiches, egg platters, and crepes. It's self serve in that you order at the counter and then when your food is ready, you go back and pick it up. You also clear your own table when done. I ordered the breakfast sandwich- bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel. It was fine except the bacon was a little strange. It was not bacon. It resembled a thin slice of ham with a weird texture in the shape of a bacon. It tasted strange too. The crepes were pretty large but even though we ordered the strawberry crepe, there were very little strawberries inside. The chai latte was aromatic and very good, albeit a little too sweet. Maybe they can adjust the sweetness level if you ask. read more

Crêpes are a finicky business, and are quite easy to mess up, I realize this. However, when I go to crêpe experts, I hope for mastery of this art... what I got was a high level of ineptitude. When I took my first bite, it was soft, hot, and almost too gooey, there were some bites toward the end where the crêpe was a tortilla chip wannabe, and was even kind of crispy! These are the two extreme ends, there was that middle ground where it was cooked just right. I will give them that the sweetness of the batter was on point! However, crêpes are only half the story... the other half is the fillings and toppings. They don't have a whole lot of variety in terms of these, but sometimes a shorter menu is better. I ended up having bananas, strawberries, and Nutella. While I can't complain about the Nutella, the other fruits were executed quite poorly. These felt like they were added after the fact, and not at all cooked with the crêpe. I also would have liked the pieces to be a little smaller. Finally, there's the Moroccan tea. I loved the teapot and tiny little mug it came in/with. You get quite a bit too, as there is at least enough for two people to have a full, standard mug full of the stuff. The use of mint was delicious and refreshing, however, the tea itself was a little weak for my taste. It was also screaming hot! Not a bad thing per se, but be aware of in a hurry. The location is small and cute, and service was good, took about 10-15 minutes to get everything. Only comment is that they need a better system if letting you know when your stuff is ready. If you tell me I'm going to get crepes today, I'll assume it's going to be a good day. That being said, this past Wednesday morning, Cafe 26, despite the promise of crepes, gave me a pretty rough start to my day. I'll say for pros: the location is very convenient if you're playing tourist in downtown Boston. And, the crepes we had were tasty - Nutella/strawberry and the lox/cream cheese combo. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to thoroughly enjoy because of two things: poor service and a bug problem. When you arrive, you're given a menu and order at the counter. We ordered: two crepes, an iced coffee and a cinnamon roll from the bakery case. After our crepes were ready, they called us up and we went to the counter to get them. While I sat down, my boyfriend went to inquire about his iced coffee and bakery item, which we had never gotten (note: it was NOT busy). It was at that point that two girls jumped up near us and ran out: a cockroach had fallen down from one of the ceiling vents. My boyfriend returned to our new table (as I had rapidly relocated), with just his ice coffee. The woman at the counter had plated his cinnamon roll (after she finally got off her cell phone to help him), so he assumed she was heating it up. I told him about the roach, and we both agreed to shake it off - there are bugs in any city, and we were starved. (I know. I'm insane when I'm hungry - we should've left immediately) While eating, they were bleaching the open kitchen area - the bleach smell was potent, but oddly made me feel better about the situation. That is, until the woman from the counter shrieked as another cockroach came scuttling out of a different vent. Instead of trying to hide it or kill it, she made a bit of a scene (in front of customers no less) and ran to have someone else kill it. It was at that point, as they swept a roach away from my foot, without even an apology, that we left the remaining half of our food and swiftly left. We never got the cinnamon roll. read more

Worst breakfast ever. Waitress very obviously wasn't happy to be there and needs to find another line of work. Dropped our food off and never saw her again until it was time to pay. Would have liked some Jelly, butter, salt and pepper, but nope wasn't going to happen. Food was liken to what you would get at a McDonald's.(McDonald's is actually better) Hash brown was a greasy premade frozen disk. The cinnamon roll was served cold and was stale.
