Seated quickly despite it being a busy weekend in Boston and in the surrounding area. Food was amazing and service was great!

Poor review based on ordering the Classic Breakfast Plate at around 8 am on a weekday morning. Eggs over easy were barely warm (and I was the only customer at the time, so they weren't exactly slammed). "Bacon" wasn't typical bacon, more like processed meat strips that were not crispy. Toast was "wheat" but more like white bread. Hash browns were rectangles from the freezer, had a kind of strange taste. Served with a little salad with 1000 island dressing--not an appetizing combo. Coffee was pretty good. Maybe their French toast or pancakes are better? I don't think I'll ever find out. read more

This little diner is in a perfect location near the Boston Common, with pretty standard breakfast and brunch options. We visited on a very hot, humid morning, and this place was super convenient for us to get to. I ended up ordering a pancake plate which consisted of some eggs, 1-2 slices of bacon, and 3 pancakes for around $14 which was the price to be expected for this area. The food was very good and left me feeling full, however, I was a bit disappointed in the service. After we received our food, our waiter did not return back to our table at all to check on us (or refill water, since it was a very hot day) which was a bit frustrating. It was also very warm and humid inside the restaurant itself, so I probably wouldn't recommend others visiting on an incredibly hot day. read more

Very good American breakfast. I ordered the 3 pancake breakfast with scrambled egg and bacon and it was delicious for the kids. Big portions. My husband got the French toast and it was dusted with powdered sugar and topped with strawberries. I got the spinach and feta omelette and it was big (too much feta for me sometimes the flavor is overpowering). Came with multi grain toast that tasted like it was from a fresh baguette. It was such a lifesaver because my boyfriend and I were tired, and thankfully, Cafe 26 was close and not packed out the door! They immediately greeted us and seated us(not sure if this place took reservations, but they were very accommodating). There were outlets to charge our phone in plenty of places. The table we were seated at was small, I prefer square tables if they're small for a bit extra room., but all our food and drinks for on there. It was quite busy, but our server took our orders quickly and the food was delivered in a timely fashion. The food itself was really good, I just wish they had more vegetarian options. read more

Cafe 26 did exactly what it was supposed to do. I woke up fairly early last Sunday morning after a bit of bourbon the night before. A breakfast sandwich was clearly in order. I was staying in an area in the middle of pretty much everything, so it wasn't hard to locate an establishment within a block that had what I needed. I side-eyed a brunchy bougie place on the corner but decided it was too high maintenance for the occasion (and it felt naughty to go in there in my sweats). This didn't require a bunch of fanfare; eggs and cheese were the only pre-requisites. This isn't so much a formal sit-down restaurant as much as a breakfast deli counter situation with a handful of tables to sit at. It's very no-frills and reminded me of a lot of the bodega/delis in NYC (I spent most of the weekend comparing neighborhoods and features to NYC - North End/West Village, etc.). I may be mistaken, but I definitely got a Mediterranean/halal vibe from the establishment, especially given some of the menu items. That said, the menu also prominently featured exactly what I was looking for. I ordered two egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches (one for my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality), as well as a chocolate croissant to split. The full order was provided in less than five minutes, and the service was efficient/courteous. No issues at all. Both sandwiches were consumed happily a few minutes thereafter. Decent portions and perfect for the situation. Most of my reviews go on for pages and pages, but this is a rare instance where there's not much to say. Work at Transportation Building for couple of years now and breakfast is either over priced for what they serve or just not that great around the building. Searched around online for places nearby for breakfast and found Cafe 26 and thought I would give it a shot. Love the cozy, casual and relaxed little nook on the side street. Was greeted and seated quickly with a very flavorful coffee. Perused the menu and decided on the poached eggs benedict w/salmon which came with salad and potatoes. 1st off, I am not into potatoes that much until today at Cafe 26. These potatoes were (in my opinion) perfectly seasoned with a little char to them like roasted and on top of the English muffins sat salmon and 2 poach eggs on each. Courteous staff very welcoming. Best Breakfast place in my opinion in Boston and very reasonably priced considering the portion sized. My now number 1 place to dine in for breakfast. We stopped by Cafe 26 while visiting the Boston Common on the weekend. It's close by and can get quite busy, so try to get there early. Parking can also be challenging. They offer a casual dining experience with a good amount of seating given the area. We ordered a western omelet, breakfast burger, plain pancakes, and plain French toast. The home fries were some of the best I've had- they were crispy and full of flavor. The omelet and breakfast burger were solid and I would order them again. However, the French toast was the highlight. It was bursting with flavor and some of the best plain French toast I've ever had. Not impressed. Pancakes were ok, a bit tougher than I like. Not fluffy, needed a knife to cut through them and you only get 1 container of smuckers fake syrup. Looks like they would have better sandwiches. One other downside to this experience, there was a rat outside our window. Yikes! read more

I really love this breakfast place. We stayed in Boston for a weekend and ate there twice. The service is excellent the food is phenomenal. I'm not sure what spices they use but it's so flavorful and delicious. I wish I would've gotten a picture of the crêpe I had the first day and then the western omelette the second but the food was just so good I never picked up my phone to even take a picture. The staff was attentive and circulated frequently. The food was solid, but nothing extraordinary. I enjoyed the chai latte, but it was served lukewarm. It was snowing outside, so was in the mood for something hot. Ordered the roasted eggplant and the Moroccan tea sounded unique, so gave that a try too. FYI, you order at the counter and grab a seat. Everything was ready in a few minutes. I'm not a big fan of roasted eggplant but this sandwich was mind-blowing good. It had a different spread on each side of the bread, both tasty. The sandwich was wonderfully warm. And it also came with pickles, the perfect accompaniment. Coming to the Moroccan tea. It's served in an exquisite kettle and you can let it steep as you eat. Yelp says 4 stars and I fully agree with it! It was my first time at Cafe 26 and I felt good vibes as soon as I entered the restaurant. On a busy Saturday morning, I got the seat pretty quickly. The waitress was guiding another waitress (probably a trainee/intern) which was a bit amusing. It's a simple restaurant with a clean floor and basic furniture. You can see the busy staff taking orders and cooking them. Everybody seems to be enjoying their work and paying close attention to the customers if they need something. The service is fast. They have a simple menu with lot of options. I ordered Triple Melt Sandwich and loved it! Also had their special moroccan tea. It wasn't on the menu but I had seen some pictures on Yelp and really wanted to try it. I just asked the waitress and she came back with it in 5 min! Loved this mint tea. We were meeting family and got a 4top so they would have seats and the waitress asked us 4 separate times if they were coming and was very rude in the 15-20 minutes we were waiting. She even guilt tripped my girlfriend while we had food on the table saying that other people were waiting for our table. When we ordered coffee for our family she cut us off and said she would make them all to go. Walked around for a while looking for a place where we could order from the table and wasn't so jam packed that you could even stand inside the door. We happened upon this little gem and we are glad we did. It's a small deli cafe looking place. It was busy but had a table ready when we walked in. They guys behind the counter were very attentive. They came right over to take our orders. We both ordered a coffee drink cuz they looked awesome. My husband got an iced coffee and I got an iced mocha latte. Both were really good. For food I ordered the Cafe 26 special. Omg it was so good I could have licked the plate. The sausage was great, the eggs were cooked perfectly, the sautéed peppers and onions made it. So good. This place is extremely busy during the morning rush. They have a few tables. The staff here are extremely busy so you have to be firm when requesting service. If you drive here, good luck finding parking on the streets. Better off taking the subway. Don't order their authentic Mediterranean breakfast. It's barely enough food for 1 person. It's basically veggies on the bottom with protein which is then topped with salsa (felt like it came from a can) and placed an eggs on top. Came with a slice of bread. They managed to take that single slice of bread and cut it into 3-4 pieces. The food was tasty, just wished it was more of it especially given that we waited in line for such a long time. We also order a kettle of their authentic tea. We asked for small cups to share with a party of 4. The tea was really fresh and tasty. Wished their food was better. I got a savory crepe; chicken, spinach, and carmelized onions. The flavor was really good and it was a large portion. The service was good, but I found it odd that they only had plastic spoons and cups and the one server didn't seem to know what he was doing, but the other one was great. I ordered the hibiscus tea which was very red, it was good, but was tough on my stomach that day so I couldn't finish it, but they did offer me a to-go cup. I ordered the ham & cheese crepe and the grilled chicken sandwich. The ham & cheese had the right about of ham & cheese, melted with green on the side. The crepe mix was very great. The grilled chicken sandwich was AMAZING. It has pieces of mixed vegetables with grilled chicken with egg. Nice soft texture sandwich. If you like spicy, this is for you. I asked for extra hot sauce on the sauce but you don't really need it. Perfect amount of spiciness. The iced coffee was good too. I just loved every bite and sip. Shashuka, one of the servers explained, is Egyption in origin. Tomatoes, sourdough, veggies, soft eggs and feta created a symphony for my mouth and tummy!!! Yummy. My other half enjoyed a lovely western omelette, home fries, salad and toast. Also enjoyed a "party cocktail" yogurt smoothie. Everything was fantastic. So grateful we happened upon this place.
