Cute ube themed cafe in Union City! Their drink deals are a great discount, we got the hibiscus calamansi and Thai tea. Of course, we had to try something ube flavored so we went their crinkle cookie, it was the perfect chewy texture and I loved the vibrant purple color. We went on a Sunday afternoon where the service was quick and most tables were full. I am happy to see they are open later than most places in the area too. Definitely need to try their halo halo next (:
Had seen this place on IG and had to stop by once I was in the area. So many options and goodies to try. Ordered the flan ube cupcake & upside down halo halo. YUMMY!! My first time trying halo halo- so many flavors packed in one sip/scoop. New fav dessert spot. I'll have to come back to try more things out.
Boyfriend brought me here for dessert after a birthday lunch. He told me to pick out wherever I want to go, and I chose Cafe 86 because the halo halo sounded good and I was in the mood for shaved ice (one of my fave desserts!), and we both enjoy ube desserts. I got the upside down halo halo, which instead of vanilla shaved ice topped with ube ice cream, it's ube shaved ice topped with vanilla ice cream. They were out of tapioca pearls/boba, so I chose lychee. I was expecting lychee fruit, but got lychee jelly instead. Once I dug into the halo halo, ngl, I was VERY disappointed. I expected shaved ice. Instead, I got a disappointing, mushy, soupy, melty mess of ube that tasted like a war broke out between pathetic attempts of shaved ice and heavy ice cream and exploded into a melted massacre. How does one even get shaved ice wrong? Boyfriend got the ube cheesecake and ube truffle. His choices were much better than mine. You know how things can leave a bad aftertaste? Honestly, the halo halo left me with a bad AFTERTEXTURE because it was so slushy in a bad way, so I ended up buying an Ube crinkle and Ube cashew brownie to get the lingering texture out of my mouth. The space is a lot smaller than expected. When we first arrived, all the seats were taken, but we got lucky when a party left after we made our order. Staff was incredibly sweet. My boyfriend wants to come back and try more Ube pastries, and said if he could, he'd buy every Ube pastry on the menu so we could try them all. I'm never getting the halo halo again here, but it's definitely worth coming back for the pastries. The ube pastries and seeing my boyfriend enjoy them so much with me is what saved this review from 3 stars, and gets 4 stars.
This is tough because I've been on an ube kick and I've been wanting to try Cafe 86 for the longest time, but I think it fell flat for me. Located in a plaza, there's plenty of parking and free. The inside of the cafe is a decent size and I appreciate them using a self-order kiosk. Their menu is extensive, but during my 10-15 mins of being inside, most people ordered their upside down halo halo. We opted for a couple pastries and their ube matcha latte to go - the ube bar was a tad too sweet and the ube pop tart was dry. The drink was okay, but nothing worth stopping for in my opinion. The pastries looked good, but the ube bar was too sweet and the pop tart was dry.
What a delightful treat! We've been coming here ever since they opened in Union City, and it's been so nice to see their menu continue to expand. On this visit, we tried the halo-halo bread pudding after it was recommended by the cashier--and I was instantly sold when he mentioned it comes with a scoop of ube ice cream. It was the perfect balance of flavors: not too sweet, incredibly rich, and honestly addictive. Let's just say after the first bite, I had zero interest in sharing. My go-to, of course, is still the ube monster--an ube shake topped with Oreo crumbs. I do wish it came with a bit more Oreos, but next time I'll just ask (even if there's an extra charge, totally worth it!). The staff is always friendly, the shop is cute and cozy, and it's the kind of place you keep coming back to. Can't wait for my next visit when the sweet cravings hit again!
This is the only place to satisfy your Ube cravings. There was nobody during lunch when I arrived. Only a few people came to purchase takeout after I arrived. Since my Filipino friends mentioned how good their Halo Halo was, I decided to get their mini upside-down Halo Halo, which was the same size as getting a regular boba drink. I had to order without flan and cornflakes to prevent any sugar crash in the afternoon. The Halo Halo was Ube-licious, not too icy nor too melty, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a few jackfruit pieces, and colorful Nata de Coco filling. I even went home with Ube Cashew Brownie and Mais Con Yelo Bar. Both of these pastries were hard from refrigeration, so heat them in the toaster oven before eating. The Mais Con Yelo Bar was way buttery on the crust and had some corn bits inside the filling for a small bar. Ube Cashew Bar was like eating a brownie with crushed cashews. I recommend their Ube Cheesecake and Ube Flan Cupcake. This is the only location that opens late at 12:30 pm, while the rest open earlier. It gets busy after dinner. It's dim to dine inside, so I prefer to eat outside on a sunny day. Their kiosk doesn't let you tap a card during payment, so you have to swipe it the traditional way. No AMEX and cash accepted.
For all of the ube enjoyers, this cafe is for you! Their menu is filled with ube flavored pastries and drinks. Some of the enticing desserts include ube leche flan cupcakes, ube truffles, ube crinkle cookies, and ube butter bars. I tried their ube truffles and crinkle cookies and they were absolutely delicious. These purple goodness are sweet, tasty, and delightful. They also have milkshakes, lattes, milk teas, and many other drinks. If you're not an ube enjoyer, they do offer other flavors. I ordered The Rosie milk tea and it was pretty decent. It's creamy, sweet and floral. The only con about this place for me is the price. Their desserts can be a bit pricey with the small portion they give. Other than that, everything else is great. Customer service is on point and the atmosphere of the place is clean and spacious.
We ordered two halo halos (A mini and regular) and a truffle. Very good. Two adults and a toddler shared it and it was enough. We ordered on the kiosk. Decent amount of tables but they weren't clean and the inside was hot. Great for dessert It does get busy on weekends. We like Ube flavored things so will be back at one of the locations. I used to come here quite often when the location first opened up and there was a line out the door. Now there is barely any line and a self-order kiosk. My family and i really like their upside down halo halos. We havent ventured too much into the other items on their menu but we do occasionally try their ube pastries. I remember their ube crinkle cookie being to die for! I wasnt sure why i stopped coming here, but then i looked at the price and remembered why very fast! Honestly... worth it for a sweet treat every once in awhile!
Stopped by Cafe 86 to try their popular Upside Halo-Halo, which I've heard a lot about. Presentation-wise, it definitely looks fun and Instagram worthy with the ube soft serve flipped upside down over the mix-ins. Flavor wise, it was decent but didn't fully live up to the hype. The ube ice cream was creamy and not overly sweet, which I liked, but some of the toppings felt a bit underwhelming and unevenly mixed. A few bites were great, while others tasted mostly like shaved ice without much flavor. As it melted, the texture became a little watery, which took away from the overall experience. Portion size is generous, and it's a solid dessert if you're craving something cold and different, but for the price, I was expecting a bit more balance and punch in flavor. Worth trying once, but not something I'd go out of my way for again.
Such good halo halo/ube desserts! It is hard to find a spot that does Halo Halo, only time is when you make it at home. I am so happy a spot like this has popped up. I am a big ube fan and this spot hits all those places. It did take a while for them to make it but, I did come before closing which is understandable.
So I've visited majority of Cafe 86 in So Cal but not in the bay area. Once I saw they were offering Ube Crack Pie for Thanksgiving, my head twisted and said I need to order that! Pre-ordered and pick up was quick. Located in the city of Union City. I will drive anywhere for sweets! Results? Winner and a crowd pleaser. read more
Beware of the Ube milk tea. I only took about 5 sips around 8pm and stayed up till 230am. It was pretty empty around 745, but a huge lined started forming after putting in our orders. We got an Ube MT, truffles, flan, cookie and the upside down halo halo. All of the pastries we got had a nice chewiness and flavor to them, but didn't taste super fresh and was probably made hours ago. Ube MT didn't seem like anything special but the upside down halo halo is a must. I believe it's their most popular item and for good reason. It has a lot of ingredients, but everything just works. Crunchy, soft, chewy, creamy, every spoonful is different and I never got tired of it. Def recommend the upside down halo halo. read more

I live far from this place but I will travel here whenever I'm craving one of their desserts. I've tried their the crinkle cookies, ube flan cupcakes, truffles and their upside down halo halo. My favorites are the truffles and the upside down halo halo! The truffles are really decadent and buttery. The upside down halo halo is soooo good! Ube ice cream, flan, and Frosted Flakes! Quick rating 5 out of 5! THE GOOD * Service was great. Very polite. They were moving quickly. * Both drinks and food was what we expected. High quality, great taste. - Ube Latte (3.75/5), it tasted great, don't get me wrong, but I was expecting caffeine to automatically be in it. Thankfully the server warned me there's no caffeine so I asked for a double shot. - Matcha Latte (5/5) my wife really enjoyed it. Had plenty of matcha. - Turon Pop Tart (5/5) Strong Turon taste while also tasting like a pop tart. - Ube Butter Bar (4.5/5) halaya on top of a cookie essentially. A bit heavy but very good. * Interior has lots of character. Lots of possibilities for photos near the bathroom entrance. * Napkins, straws, utensils all easily available in the front. Came in and the cafe was not as busy than I am used to. Service was quick and fast. We were in and out with 10-15 mins from ordering. Desserts were immaculate per usual. Can't wait until the store opens closer to home. read more

Cafe 86 is perfect for anyone who is a fan of ube. It not only has a gorgeous purple color but is creamy almost coconut cream like texture and flavor it seems to give many Filipino treats. Therefore, when I saw Jaane's IG post about the Union City location earlier in the month, I knew I wanted to try it for myself before month end. Hard to choose so went for 3, the Halo Halo Bread Pudding, Ube Crack Cheesecake and Ube Tres Leche. I was not a fan of the ube tres leche and the bread puddnig was just okay for me. The one that did shine for me is the Ube Crack Cheesecake, living up to its name as I am addicted. read more

Food is amazing! Quick excellent service! The guy that helped me was very friendly and made me feel welcomed upon arrival. I asked for his name so I could give him the proper credit he deserves. I wasn't sure what I wanted to order but JC quickly gave me a couple of recommendations. Which was super helpful! Food was amazing as well as the drink. I ordered for a large party and was able to try a several goodies, but the photos do not reflect how the item actually looks because it was divided into halves or quarters looool #sample sizes Ube Crinkle Cookie - 5/5 yum, cookie was moist and soft, a pretty big cookie (3.5 inch big and about 1cm thick) so can easily be shared, I highly recommend this as I probably could've eaten an entire cookie myself Ube Cheesecake - 4.25/5 mmm yum, a less less rich version of the butter bar and the graham cracker bottom you can taste, ube flavor is good, about 2.5 inches tall, I'd recommend this and would be ok to eat this myself Ube Truffles - 4/5 not bad but a little rich for me, consistency is like dense cake, about 2inches the entire truffle, I'd recommend this too but say it could be shared if you don't have a big sweet tooth Ube Tres Leches - 3.25/5 I thought this item was OK, not my favorite but I can eat some of it, 3.5inches x 3.5inches so definitely shareable Ube Butter Bar - 3/5 too rich for my liking, I'd say skip it but if you would like to try, could probably share it with 3+ ppl because it's so rich (didn't want seconds for this item) Will be back since it's a nice sharing platter for Ube desserts, will post cuter photos next time too haha read more

Here with a friend yesterday to get a little pick me up before dinner. It's such a cute little cafe with a nice vibe! Definitely a nice spot to chill and maybe get some work done if you don't mind a little background music. I ordered the Mahalo Mango tea and the cashier told me it was a hibiscus tea with mango puree. I honestly couldn't taste the mango pure all too well so it just tasted like a sweet fruit tea... I also got the ube butter bar! This was definitely full of ube flavor and a huge serving! It tasted similar to a ube pie If you like ube I would get this. Helpful tip: all of the teas only come in 1 size, which is the bigger cup. read more
Yes I do recommend this place!! The inside is so cute! I do only wish the upside down halo halo had the sweet beans in it. It only has jellies so my kid loved it. The treats were yummy and still yummy few days later because I don't eat all the sweets in one day unless it's stuff that melt. They do get busy but the wait isn't bad. Parking is available and in a busy area. I think during weekdays after the school close by they are probably really busy but for a Saturday early evening we were able to sit enjoy our treats all after taking pictures in the photo op area towards the back where the bathroom is. The restroom door is part of the art but finding the handle to open isn't hard. Great place to bring a friend or 2 to catch some yummy sweets. read more
Ube heaven? Yes please! Interior is super cute! I got their popular drink which was the "upside down halo halo." First time trying halo halo! It was soo delicious! The boba was soft and chewy. The jelly was good too! The scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yumm. The frosted flakes toppings reminded me of a sweet cereal dessert. Everything worked so well together. Very filling dessert. I also ended up getting the Ube flan cupcake! What a beautiful creation! I will be back to try some of their other items! read more
I love coming here! Was in the area and decided to stop by and get halo halo. I like their halo halo because it doesn't have beans. I'm not a fan on beans in the traditional halo halo but that is just a preference. I ordered the ube cheesecake with their skyflakes crust. When I read skyflakes I was confused because I never associated sky flakes with a dessert but it paired really well with this cheesecake. Also, they ended up giving us a few ube truffles and flan ube cupcake for free as they were trying to get rid of what they had so that was nice! I really wanted to like this place because everyone posts about it and there's not a lot of places that sells ube or flan but it was meh? The cupcake was dry and the flan was a bit hard. Not sure if we didn't get a fresh batch or what. I just felt like I could've made a better cupcake. Their drinks were good and super sweet! read more

Location: 100/10 because it's a 4 minute drive from my favorite Chinese restaurant: Din Ding Dumpling House. There's a parking lot but it's not huge. Ambiance: Nice cafe with a big menu on the wall. I saw a few people just lounging around reading or working on their laptop - a good thing! Food Ube ube ube. Everything kind of tasted the same (amazing), but the medium was different. ie: cheesecake, cupcake, bar etc. I recommend the bar. Drink Hibiscus Calamansi - so good and refreshing. It was not too sweet, which was great because the snacks were definitely sweet. read more

I love finding new cafes in my area. I appreciated the variety of drinks they offered here (cookie butter latte! jasmine calamansi tea!) They also have a whole display of unique ube-centric treats! I'm not a fan of ube personally so I can't speak to those, but I will speak to the drinks. Overall, overly sweet and heavy-handed. It's good to have a lot of flavor in every sip, but it can be overdone. I wish we had the option to customize the sweetness level of the teas. The jasmine also had a very strong floral flavor. I don't mind it personally, but I'm sure it would be too strong for many. The Nutella/cookie butter drinks had a good mix of the flavor in each sip but it was not entirely homogenized, so just know what to expect if you order it. Not sure how their coffee is as I didn't get any, but I'd still be willing to come back and try it. The place was also stuffy and humid, so I wouldn't prefer to dine in or do any work here. Probably not ideal, considering you should want to hang out at a cafe. read more
Came on a Tuesday afternoon 4 ppl ahead of me and only two ppl working the front. Waited 20 minutes total and finally had a third person working the front when the line was out the door. I think they were unprepared for the hype that it would become and hopefully are going forward. The Ube crinkle was soft and not too sweet. I was a little disappointed that it didn't have that warm fresh off the oven taste. Also got the ube truffle- just my type of dessert, not too sweet and just the right amount without feeling too overwhelmed. read more
Beautiful ambiance, cute everything, cool art with generally good background music. I had the hibiscus calamansi drink with boba and lychee. This one was slightly sour for me, but it was mostly OK. There's also a number of desserts there that I had to say no just because I already had a ton of sugar. I totally forgot. They also had food on the menu and was tempted to buy the pastrami sandwiches which smelled delicious at the table across for me. Generally a good space to work with the Wi-Fi and it gets a little bit crowded towards the late afternoon. read more

If you need your sweet tooth satisfied.... You have come to diabetes central!!!!! Awesome service. My sisters were fighting at the register who will pay and the guy just patiently smiled while they caused a scene. So I sat my ass down and just watched. Of course you have to try the upside down halo halo....You craving savory? They have sandwiches too. Great spot for a bite to go or to chill and enjoy. Maybe not a great place for large groups unless you arrive when the spot is empty. Ample parking and an after school favorite location for the high school kids to hang out at. If you have a sweet tooth, this place is right up your alley. Diabetic's beware bring your insulin lol. Sampled several of there options every single one was a definite must try again. On a Sunday morning me and the family headed down to this venue we got there before the after church rush lol. Here is everything we sampled and how everything faired Upside down halo halo - a traditional Filipino drink that has red beans, clear gelatin, shaved ice, condensed milk, scoop of ube ice cream and the creme de la creme they add a slice of slice of leche flan, all the rumors are true it is LEGIT!!! Order this if there is a long ride back home order another for the road, literally order this Ube milk tea - sweet, full ube flavor if you have a sweet tooth you will want to try this Ube Monster Milkshake - heavy thick full flavored you can get boba with this drink but why it doesn't need it, sample this Thai tea monster milkshake - heavy, delicious, opt out of the boba you won't need it Cookie butter milkshake sprinkled with oreos - don't need to describe this more it has everything mentioned and is delicious The mermaid milk tea - sea salt and sweetness oddly mixes well the sweetness overpowers the sea salt but it meshes well Mocha blended latte - if you like your coffee extra sweet this is your choice if you dont care for frap type drinks this is not for you White mocha blended latte - sweeter then the mocha counterpart, again if you don't care for fraps this is not your cup of joe, for me it was delicious Ube latte - served hot, must try slightly grainy but delicious Chai latte - I do like chai sample their offerings it is good And on to the desserts Leche flan cupcakes - your going need a bigger tray of these cupcakes, flavorful, did I mention sweet, everything from top to bottom is delicious definite must try Ube cupcakes - full flavored ube tasting perfect sticky and moist combo Ube bread pudding - they got me on bread pudding with ube ice cream on top definite must try Sampled 2 other desserts but I don't recall names but I will be back to sample more for sure Definitely a spot for sweet tooth folks, must try of almost everything they offer Drinks ***** wow upside down halo halo for the win Pastries ***** all sweet all delicious Price $$ Service **** helpful staff Ambiance ***** clean, wall art definite plus, music also good read more
The staff was very friendly in taking our order. For a long line we were able to get our food/drinks fast. We had to order the upside down halo halo, ube Leche flan cupcake, ube truffles and ube crack cheesecake. It was so good! We enjoyed the update with cornflakes and tapioca. So glad there's a location in Northern California now. luckily for me it's not too far from where I live. I no longer have to go down to SoCal, to get my hands on these yummy treats. Now my favorite things from here are always the Ube cheesecakes and the Ube butter bars. The Ube flavor isn't too prominent in either of the pastries, but has just enough to give u a hint of flavor. I even let me little desserts sit out for an extra day in my fridge and it was still just as yummy. Def give this spot a try if you're into ube flavored things. I'd recommend, and I'm actually looking forward to coming back in again. Maybe I'll stray away from my usual faves and try something else. read more
Everytime I drove by this place had a very long line. I wanted to wait until the hype cooled off before I have them a try. Never had the ube that they advertise but I had it in a small desert amd it was delicious. The salted caramel ice coffee was also good amd had a unique flavor. The service staff was nice enough to explain everything to me and offer their personal recommendations. I will return to try something else read more
Been to cafe 86 a handful of times and haven't been disappointed yet! I usually go for the upside down halo halo which is amazing!! So ube-y and coconutty and it has delicious coconut jellies at the bottom and crunchy flakes on the top! I actually didn't care for the boba this last time I went, it didn't have any flavor this time. I went when it opened at 11 and the boba wasn't ready yet, so beware if you go right at opening you can't get boba right away. At least you know they make it fresh! I also tried the ube crack cheesecake this time and it was so good! The crust was crunchy and the ube was creamy. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It also looked like they re-designed their menu in the store, I'm not sure if anything's changed but this menu is easier to read read more
Cafe 86 opened a location in Norcal, specializing in ube desserts and drinks. I usually order an upside down halo halo to share with friends. Delicious with traditional and modern toppings like ice cream, frosted flakes, and boba, it's a nice treat to share with others (or eat it by yourself to satisfy a sweet tooth). Great cafe! I tried their sandwiches, which were fresh and flavorful. The dragonfruit calamansi drink was refreshing 10/10. I was a huge fan of the upside-down halo-halo. It had great presentation. Definitely worth a visit for anyone in the Union City area. read more

I have been meaning to come to this spot for awhile now and it did not disappoint! I made great conversation with a staff member Daidrian who helped me with my order. Heads up! Their drinks are not too sweet, and just perfect at reg. sweetness. My friends and I got the House milk tea but I wish I grabbed a dessert because they had a couple of treats i've never seen before. I will be coming back to try more of their drinks & snacks. This is also the perfect place to study since it offers that mellow ambiance. read more
It's giving a 3.5 star rating We waited a little while in line for 4 mini desserts. We heard they had flan cupcakes and I have been craving cupcakes and hubby loves flan so best of both worlds for both of us xD. We got: - Ube cheesecake: mushy.. Ube flavor was faint. The gram cracker on the bottom was just not going along with the cheesecake portion - Tres Le Che cupcake: fresh flan on top BUT was very hard. Not creamy flan.. cupcake was a little dry as well. Finally happy to have a good Filipino dessert place near me!!! So many desserts and flavors and drinks to try! I tried their popular ones and I was very happy with the upside down halo halo, all the calamari drinks, Ube butter bar, and coffee crunch. The Ube flan cupcake was ok and the truffle was more dense than I expected. Overall a cute little place, a bit pricey but the customer service is good and so many things to try. Def will come back to try more. read more
I've been meaning to pay a visit to this popular new spot, but I wanted to wait until the crowds died down. We came here on a Sunday afternoon on Mothers Day, which was good, because everyone was still at brunch and the line was only up until the door (it sounds bad, but the whole place isn't that big at all). Long story short: Ube latte: super sweet and very Ube! It was good, but I'm not used to having so much sugar. Wish they had sugar adjustment options. Ube butter bar: the most subdued of all Ube treats. Didn't have a strong Ube taste but it really did taste like I was eating a stick of butter! Yay!...? Milo Cupcake: I don't think they packed the right cupcake. We got the one with flan on it. In any case, the flan was hard, and the cupcake was cold and not moist. Thats gonna be a no for me dawg. Ube Crack Cheesecake: the WINNER. You can't go wrong with cheesecake! It was cool, creamy, and dripping in Ube goodness. If the whipped cream were softer, it woulda been perfect. Ube Truffles: came in at a close second. I forgot how much I loved Oreos. The insides were ooey gooey Ube. Would get again because the size is great for a mini snack. Overall: good! But glad I didn't wait too long in line for it. Good for something to bring over to a party (albeit a little pricey), but not anything I would crave on any given day. read more

How long are the waits now? Is it still a line out the door or has it died down?
Lines are not as long as the grand opening. From my experience- I arrived 10 mins before they opened. I was the 4th person in line. I went around 2pm and waiting 15 mins in line.
Do they have a separate line for online order pickup?
If you place an online order, you just head to the general pickup area and let them know.
What's the difference between the the Halo-halo and the Upside down Halo-halo shake?
The difference is that the halo halo has a vanilla ice cream base. The upside down halo halo has a ube ice cream base.
Honest, is that Filipino called right? UBE, Halo Halo, and some I saw it. If answer is yes?
Yes, Cafe 86 serves Filipino desserts like halo halo and ube flavored drinks
What are their non-dairy milk options? Also, do they have any vegan desserts?
They have soy and almond milk however any of the Ube drinks contain milk in the powder they use. You also can't get any of the milkshakes vegan. There is one vegan pastry but this location doesn't carry it right now.
Do you have any dairy free options?
I was able to order my drinks with soy milk :)
When's the best time to go for less people? How much is one ube flan cupcake?
I came around 5pm...less people but still a wait
