Love this place! Came here on a Monday night for some sweet treats. They have various options and tons of Ube! Personally love the Milo milk tea with boba and the milo cupcakes. If you like chocolate, I'd highly recommend! We also love the Calamansi juices they offer if you're looking for something more refreshing! The staff is really friendly and welcoming and same with the entire cafe. It's a cute, smaller sized cafe, maybe enough to seat 20 people altogether. It was topped with a cashew crunch which added a bit texture that just made it better -pop tart turon: this was good, but not my favorite. I am a sucker for filipino flavors so I had to check this place out! This cute little cafe is the perfect sweet treat spot for ube lovers, or "ube nerds" as they would say. This trip, my boyfriend and I decided to try the ube poptart, turon pop tart, and the ube flan cupcakes. As far as sweet treats go, these were all amazing choices. I thought that the pop tarts were such a unique way to showcase filipino flavors in a pastry. The execution of the poptart was on point, I just wish it had a little bit stronger of a flavor in the filling! I loved these though, and I'd definitely get them again. The ube flan cupcakes were by far the star of the show. They were super moist, rich, and decadent. I thought these were perfect and I wouldn't change a thing! Love the drinks I've gotten from there so far but my only gripe is they never have boba ready. I've gone there close to when they open and have been told the boba isn't ready yet twice. I have been wanting to go back to cafe 86 since I went in socal. We came here after getting some dumplings at din ding dumpling house which is literally right across the street. They have a variety of drinks and ube goods. We got an ube cheesecake, ube butter bar, and I got the milo milk tea drink. The ube cheesecake here is great, super fluffy cheesecake and yummy ube flavor. The ube butter bar is like ube halaya on top of a shortbread crust. I really enjoyed the milo milk tea! Delicious and refreshing drinks, but I will say the calamansi flavor isn't as strong. Can be overpowered by the berries pretty easily, the mahalo mango one also wasn't super "mango-y" but it still tasted good! This was my first exposure to halo halo. I gotta say it was a very sweet experience too!! I remember coming here when it was night and also when there wasn't that many people. For around $10 after tax, this is pretty worth!! Service was standard. Just ordering with a cashier and they'll call you whenever the order is ready. My friends and I visited on a Saturday night to find a fairly large crowd at Cafe 86. Luckily parking was not too tough even though the lot was small. I ordered a Chamoy Mango Slush. This drink was okay. The mango flavor was a bit light; and you couldn't really taste the Chamoy spice. We also got an Ube Butter Bar. It was "not-too-sweet" which I appreciated, but the flavor was too light. The bottom crust was not as crunchy as I had hoped it would have been. The first time I tried Cafe 86 was in Pasadena years ago. I was surprised they had expanded to the Bay Area. They probably have one of the best halo halos in the area. Don't expect a traditional halo halo though. I like the touch of Frosted Flakes as it adds a nice texture to the dessert. There's also some boba, which isn't in your traditional halo halo. I noticed they didn't have the sweet beans - which I think is a pro and a con. Some prefer it, some hate the thought of beans as a dessert ingredient. Other pastries are not too sweet. If you're an ube lover, you're in luck, especially if you enjoy leche flan as well. Do keep in mind that just like with all other dessert, too much of it can get tiring. This is the second time I've come to this place. The first time i had a Thai tea with some Ube crinkles. The Ube crinkles are so amazing!! Very soft and tasty, i was in love with them! This last time i went, i decided to try something new, i tried the Cookie Butter Blended Latte, which is cookie butter mixed with vanilla ice cream and a shot of expresso, let me tell you, the best drink I've had in a long time!!! I finished it in just a few minutes! The barista recommended this one and he did not lie, it was the best one! I also tried the Ube leche flan, I'm not a big fan of this pastry, the cupcake was a little too moist for my taste. Moist is usually good, but the cupcake kept getting stuck in my teeth. The flan tasted a bit dry. Next time i will order the crinkles, absolute favorite. I also saw a lot of people ordering the Halo Halo drink, i will order that next time as well, looked delicious. The place didn't have AC or maybe it wasn't working that day. The place is always busy, a total hit. It's a good ambiance over all, the baristas are friendly, it's clean and very well decorated. They even have games that you can play. You can also order through an iPad if you don't want to wait to order. I really enjoy the drinks and the workers there are friendly, i give this spot a 4.5/5, but overall deserving of the 5 stars. This place have the best halo halo. Instead of using shaved ice for the halo halo, they use ube ice cream. The place always has a line and some times we had to wait for 15-20 minutes but the upside down halo halo is worth the wait. One of the most delicious and unique desserts in the area! This place made me dream about their Ube drink for days! This location is inside a plaza and parking was easy. The staff is friendly and the decor is fun. The drinks here are absolutely delicious! They also have several desserts but we didn't try them...yet! Our favorite drink was the Upside Down Halo Halo. It comes with Ube base Halo Halo, Coconut Jellies, Jack Fruit, Boba, Frosted Flakes, Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream and Flan. This drink was perfect. Very well balanced and flavorful. It is big and my husband and I shared one. It was perfect for us! We stopped by another location the following week because we had been dreaming about the drink and got to try the regular halo halo which comes with the same ingredients above but not an ube base. Came in for an after dinner dessert. The parking at the place where this is located is pretty small so I can see that finding parking can get difficult at times. Once you enter, you can either order with the cashier or through a tablet on the right side wall. The menu is surprisingly robust for most things having Ube. We got ube milk tea, milo milk tea, and Ube leche flan. Everything was good but nothing memorable. What I liked: - Ube! - There were a lot of unique drinks on the menu. What I didn't like: - There's only one size for the drinks. - The cost of substituting soy or almond milk is almost $2! - The Ube leche flan was pretty dry; both the flan and the cupcake. It was ok. I think my generations version of halo halo is definitely different from a Fil-Am version. First what I liked, I really liked the Calamansi cooler! Refreshing and you get it for $3.00! Nice! It's a small coffee shop with treats that are very ube forward. Now to the halo halo. It was ok. The mixing part was already done for me in that they pre blended the condensed milk, ice and I think they put ice cream in there too. The lech flan on the top was tough. I mean so tough that my plastic spoon couldn't even cut through it which alerted me that either this was not water baked correctly or it had been previously frozen. They put boba at the bottom and jackfruit too. Both new things that I have never encountered in a halo halo. The jackfruit flavor really overwhelms and the other ingredients just as an FYI. On Sunday, I learned they had opened earlier than on Saturday (6-10pm) and had longer hours. I decided to try it out on Monday. I got their before it opened and was second in line. Soon a line developed behind me which stretched down the plaza. Soon the doors opened and I placed my order. The staff were friendly and helpful, and my wait was short. The interior had been renovated with an entirely new decor. My order was ready. After a few snapshots, I took my goodies to go. The drinks and desserts were good. I've been waiting to try some Halo Halo & I finally got it a few weeks back. The taste, flavor & presentation was perfect. I'm quite impressed that it wasn't overly sweet. This is a review for the booth at Filipino Island Fest in Alameda. There were long lines but I really wanted something to drink in the heat. We decided to get the strawberry calamansi cooler and the dragonberry calamansi cooler. They were 16oz and $6 each. I never had dragonberry before so I wasn't sure what to expect but it's supposed to be similar to melon or kiwi. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor as it mixed well with the calamansi. You could taste the dragonberry really well. The strawberry was a little harder to taste, maybe it needed more syrup? It was tart but didn't taste much of anything but calamansi. Poor customer service. I went to get a drink that is supposed to come with 3 toppings, jackfruit, jelly and boba. I refused the jelly, they only gave me one small piece of jackfruit and no boba. They said they ran out of boba and was low on jackfruit, but instead of substituting both the jackfruit and boba, they decided to give me the drink without the items instead of asking me. I noticed the error after I got home and then called them to bring the matter to their attention, they then told me to come back to the store, I then drove back 10 miles to the store, I asked the cashier if they could please remake my drink because the drive back and forth caused the drink to melt but he refused to do it. He claimed they can't remake the drink because I already drank from it. This is absolutely ridiculous, how will I be able to tell if the toppings are inside the drink if I don't drink it to find out.... If you like ube, they have cheesecake, flan, and drinks tailored around that flavor. I LOVE Cafe 86's Ube Truffles so when I was in the area, I HAD to drop by! I first had them in San Diego and ever since then, I was hooked. Just something about all their ube sweets gets to me. This Cafe 86 location is decked out in art or some people will see it as "graffiti," but it really does add some flavor to this establishment. I think it's worth checking out when you're there. I've only had Ube Truffles from this location so I will only review that. The truffles were no different from the ones in SoCal. Same ube/ oreo taste with that cake-y with crumby texture with every bite. Size was also the same. You can either eat it right when you get one or some, or you can heat it up in the microwave for like 8 secs. It'll be heaven in your mouth! I live in San Leandro, and believe me when I tell you that Cafe 86 is ALWAYS worth the drive! I make the little treks down to Union City just for their delicious hot ube lattes. If I'm having an extra sweet-tooth kind of day, I also order their ube tres leches cake, which is soo delicious. The tres leches cake is not overly sweet and bursting with delectable ube flavor.
