I ordered three things this afternoon. Amala and Ewedu soup. Pounded yam and Egusi soup, and Jellof rice. The Jellof rice was really good 8/10. Egusi was 5/10 . Ewedu 2/10. The Ewedu was served without stew. I asked and was informed they only give stew with rice. Ewedu is always served with stew.Their beaf comes on the side with a tablespoon of stew. I love this place. It's super clean, professional and great customer service. The food is DELICIOUS. It's my go to restaurant when I'm craving African food. It's ran by a husband and wife and they put their hearts in it. You can feel the passion in the food and service. Don't waste your time going anywhere else. They also have a Igbo menu as well. Me and my fiancé went to this restraint for the first time it was a Saturday, so the place was packed. I ordered the jollof rice, however was informed they were out of it. I ended up with some bland rice. We order the snails for appetizers. The sauce over them was nice but they were over cooked and dried out. We were barely able to chew them. My fiancé ordered amala with gbegiri and ewedu. After waiting over an 1 and 1/2 Hours I was served not my fiancé, the waitress came then came to inform us that the was no more of his dish to be served. They did bring out various foods for him to have instead, but the fact of the matter is that we waited 1 1/2 hours for food he didn't order or want. They gave him a fish and said in was on the house. However the food we ordered and didn't receive was still on the ticket. Our meal was over 70.00 and this being our 1st visit to Cafe Abuja it was extremely disappointing. When we finally got our food we had to pick it up and leave because they were closing. The manager made verbal apology, and mentioned he would take care of us next visit. I still feel that them being too busy is not a reason for your customer should suffer. read more

Very expensive for the food quality. Pepper soup was incredibly salty and 50% of the chicken was skin and cartilage. We were overcharged on several items vs the menu price. All told, there was a lot of heat overlaying what was otherwise bland, expensive, food. I won't go back. read more

The anticipation of Cafe Abuja opening within 10min. driving certainly was a factor in my decision to stay in the Energy Corridor. FOOD: The food is good - I believe it could definitely be a bit more consistent with the quality. And there's the general Nigerian restaurant issue of not having certain food items that are listed on the menu. But quite familiar with this, so no biggie. On my last order, the amala (yam flour that's pounded) and ogbono (soup made w. ogbono ground seeds) were good - no complaints whatsoever. DECOR: I definitely like the set up, it's quaint - probably not for a large group but certainly max a party of 6 or so. There are some tweaks that could be done to some holes that were covered up. I wouldn't necessarily recommend as a very romantic date venue, but to introduce someone to Nigerian food, it's a go-to! SERVICE: This is where the bulk of 3 stars lie. Because of the all-too-long wait time common at most Nigerian restaurants, I decided to order in advance to take out. Against my better judgement I agreed when the gentleman on the phone told me NOT to order via phone since the Amala takes about 5 minutes to make. I arrived at the restaurant to place my order, expecting to be out in 5-10 minutes as promised. Again, the gentleman reiterated that this is a very quick turnaround time. ...almost 30 minutes later, my food was ready. I understand that things happen that are beyond our control, but what vexed me was the gentleman that made these promises stayed in the kitchen, and it was as though the wait time was as promised. There was no acknowledgement - apology. The hostess, Edna (I believe), apologized on his behalf when I mentioned this to her - but even then it's the lack of responsibility on the owner's end that's so frustrating. To the owners, please treat customers in a manner that would encourage a return visit, and not because of geographic location. If there's any issue (especially circumstances beyond our control), it certainly helps to keep the customer informed and not just left idling. Again, the food was tasty! Decided to try this place out today. I called to place a to-go order and ordered the jollof rice with beef and rice & stew with beef. Amazingly, the food was ready for pick up by the time I got there. Normally with Nigerian restaurants you have to wait for an additional 30-60 mins on arrival to pick up food so, I was impressed that the food was ready for me. Got home and my order was NOT messed up! Hallelujah!! Lol also, the food tasted fresh and yummy :) Additionally, I liked the ambience of the restaurant. It's a small, cute restaurant and it does not have that stale smell of egusi soup that you experience with most Nigerian restaurants. The girl who attended to me was fairly new, but she was polite and gave good customer service. I definitely will be back!!! read more

Tried this out cause my favorite African restaurant Trinity was too far a drive tonight. I was in for a pleasant surprise. Abuja Cafe is a quaint clean and inviting place which offers excellent customer service. The food arrived in a timely manner and exceeded all my expectations. The suya is a must! So glad a great restaurant is right around the corner from me, no more to driving out of the way. Hopefully they keep up the good work! But so far, so good. I highly recommend this place! read more

i Want to start by saying how much i love a good customer service. Its is almost impossible to find good customer services lately. Cafe Abuja gets a 9.7 on customer service i love how nice and sweet everyone is the .3 is for the time and waiting. The restaurant is so beautiful and cozy on the inside. compare to the other Nigerian restaurant in the city it is very well kept and designed i love the lighting and the vibe i do wish it was a little more spaces between chairs and tables. For the food the price is absolutely fantastic. If you are Nigerian, yes you can cook the same food at home but this place gives you the home made meal taste and the clean space to go with it. I had the vegetable soup and Lafu and my friend had the egusi and pounded yam. My friend said it was the softest pounded yam she as ever had and i have been here 3 times before very consistent in services and taste. Food gets a 8 because i can make the same thing at home. customer services get 9.7. The restaurant decor lighting and space gets a 10 because i love it. The most important thing that set them apart is that they DELIVER, DELIVERYYYYY gives them a 10. Must go. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. The manager wife I'm assuming, is VERY unprofessional and rude. We are regular costumers and come here VERY often. The waiters already know our names and what we usually order, that's how often we come. So today, my boyfriend decided that he wanted to order something different off there new menu. He got the food, took one bite and did not like it. We called the waiter back over to tell her that he did not like the food and she was able to exchange the order after discussing with the manager I assume. We were ready to pay and noticed that the dish he did not like was still on our bill. I call the waiter over and asked why the food was still on our bill. The manager comes over and begins to have a NASTY attitude. She said "We are not a taste testing restaurant, you can't order something and expect for it to be exchanged" "If you go to other restaurants and ask for something to be exchanged, they won't allow it" Like what? If I did not like a dish, other restaurants would kindly say I could exchange it and call the manager over to apologize for the inconvenience. I've never in my 24 years of life heard somebody say something so foolish. She than began to insult me saying "It's African costumers like you that are the problem". So because my boyfriend did not like his food I deserve to be insulted? I will NEVER return here. The manager needs to show his wife what costumer service is. I usually always go to trinity and i decided to try Cafe Abuja, which was my biggest mistake. I ordered jollof rice and stew and fell sick within the next few hours. Oh and not only me, my friends and I, fell sick to our stomach!! The things that came out of my body was not normal!!! I hate to even get so personal, but that food did not react well with my body whatsoever. Even as I ate the food, I didn't enjoy it because it didn't taste like anything compared to Trinity Bar and Grill. I called the next day to file a complaint with management. At this point, I didn't even want a refund or my money back, I just wanted to at least be heard. The manager was already in defense mode and was not trying to even hear anything I had to say. It is important that I can have a go to authentic Nigerian eatery that I can pick up something for my family on days I'm just to tired to prepare a meal. My husband being the true NIJA guy he is, is very difficult to please when it come to eating out. I ordered 2 moi moi, 2 beef meat pie. The fact that my husband grabbed the Gari to eat along side the moi moi, lets me know it's a winner, I haven't tried it yet because I can only take moi moi in the morning alongside tea. But that meat pie was banging. Very flavorful. Although I'd like to see more veggies in the meat pie. The owners wife is sweet as pie, as an American it gives that down south small town feeling that I can converse with the owners. Went to this establishment last night and I must say the customer service was terrible, the lady who served me was very rude and when I asked for a glass of ice she slammed it on the table and walked off. Also my food came out piece by piece like meat then the rice which was very irritating all in all I must say my experience was not pleasant and I'm not sure I will be returning again. read more

me and my family came to this place looking to try new foods and oh my god... this food was so freaking delicious. i got the pounded yam and egusi soup. the fufu was soft and wrapped well and the soup was mildly spicy and the meat was soft and amazing. the car ride home was torture as the fragrance of the meal was irresistible. it did take a while to come out only because its a smaller restaurant with large demand. i 100% recommended this place and if your willing to try new foods this place is perfect to start! read more

I was very excited to hear abt the new African restaurant as I go to Trinity all the time. So, I try Cafe Abuja and the food was AWESOME, it was so good that I told everyone abt it (My new found favorite place so I thought)I went again and BOOM just like that the best restaurant turned into the worrsssst. I decide to go again tonight so I called ahead and ordered so when I got there the food would be ready right? Good. I got there and had to wait another hour, so that's an hour and a half in total. I think everything is fine till I get home and 1 there's no vegetable which is supposed to come with the rice and 2 the stew is different. Very inconsistent! First of all this is not fast food, so get a drink, relax and enjoy your company. The people here are helpful and friendly. I'll admit it's a little pricey, but worth It! The ambiance is very pleasant and the music is great too. Most of the dishes are spicy but packed with wonderful flavor. My husband and I shared the rice with goat and rice with oxtail. 10 adventurous foodie friends wanted to check out this restaurant. We like Ethiopian, Indian, Thai, etc. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with this "Excellent" Nigerian restaurant. The service was slow to help us. We found the meat to be fatty, the flavors off in the vegetable side, and the pounded yams tasted like nothing. A beer is $10 and a glass of cheap wine is $9 (the whole bottle was $9 at CVS). Overall, the food was overpriced and we don't recommend to anyone unless you know you like Nigerian food. read more
