Picked up order...;got home....no salad dressing for the salad, ordered the Seafood Pasta....found 4 canned shrimp...6 crawfish about the size of a pea and crabmeat was no where to be found...but there was pasta and sauce. The garlic bread was sitting in the sauce and it was WET BREAD...The hamburger that we ordered was about the size of a Jr. Whopper. For the money we spent if was awful. Called the manager , Eva and she was so helpful...... it was one excuse after another.... Absolutely horrible service. Waited on drinks, no refills, had to walk to bar to get refills. Was I correctly told I couldn't order my meal a certain way and had to get the dinner portion. Only after bringing to attention of manager did a part of it get fixed, but the server was still incredibly rude. Then was overcharged for two separate items. The worst. March 29, 2021 Today, my co-worker and I entered into the restaurant around 12:25 p.m. and sat ourselves at the table. Our order may have been taken 15 minutes later. It is now 1 p.m. and no food, not even a salad. We sat and watched as people who came in after us were being served and even some who were finished and left. Still no food. I called the waitress (the restaurant was full and only one waitress on the floor) over and asked about our food and she finally said my salad was up and she was going to bring it to me. I asked the waitress for more parmesan cheese for my salad and she told me it would be extra. You think after sitting there that long she would have accommodated me! I asked my co-worker what time it was and she said 1 and then my salad appeared. I asked how much longer for the food and she said a few minutes. Remember customers were served who arrived after us. So, I requested to go plates and our checks so we can take it to go because our lunch time was over. At this time there were no entrees. I asked for the owner/manager Bryan Blackledge. He had come out in a very quick manner and had an attitude as he approached the table. I started to express my concerns and before I can finish my sentence he said not in a so nice voice that the kitchen is full and backed up and really wouldn't listen to what I wanted to say. My co-worker expressed to him that he wasn't listening to what I was trying to say and he went into telling us that his people don't want to work and as we tried to respond he asked us to leave in not a nice tone. One table was shocked and another table just looked at us. He was not considerate to what we had to say or even tried to comp us anything. Mind you he did not ask us to leave he told us to leave! I went here for a date night with my boyfriend and was not expecting the food to be as delicious as it was! This is a little hidden gem. We did the restaurant week menu. I got the broiled seafood stuffed mushrooms (4 very fully stuffed baby bella mushrooms), grilled redfish which came over a bed of spinach with a side of asparagus and a sweet potato hushpuppy, and the cheesecake (which we took to go). My boyfriend got the boudin balls (6), eggplant jefferson (fried eggplant rounds topped with lobster and crab meat in a white sauce) and a large side of mixed vegetables and a sweet potato hushpuppy (also cheesecake to go). I have to say I was very impressed with the food quality! Everything we tried was flavorful and cooked to perfection. When we received the check, the owner was standing near us and my boyfriend struck up a conversation about the hushpuppies with him. We had never had sweet potato hushpuppies before and both thought they were incredible. The owner was very nice and talked to us about his plans to patent the recipe and how they are usually served with a chocolate sauce. He even ended up bringing us out some more complimentary ones to try with the chocolate sauce! I would come back for these alone! Overall, we had a great experience here and both said we will definitely be coming back. I only docked one star because the service to get seated was a little slow. We had a reservation and it took a while for us to get a table and then we were seated at the table closest to the drink area/kitchen/register/bathrooms when there was a better positioned table that a couple that walked in after us was seated at. read more

I decided to try the fried green tomatoes a few weeks ago and was disgusted by hair being on the tomatoes. Was very excited to try as it just opened close to home. We EXTREMELY disappointed. Food was horrible. I got a seafood platter (who in the south does not devein shrimp before frying??) not to mention half the batter wasn't even on the shrimp. The catfish was a whole filet that had about 1/4" thick breading on it and was cold in the middle. My wife had the "Shrimp Orleans". Also cold in the middle and tasted like it was "pre prepared"(frozen). I should have been suspicious when we ordered the fried green tomatoes with shrimp for an appetizer and the waitress delivered it to the table in about 90 seconds. Service was impeccable! I ordered the sweet potato pecan pancakes. This includes 2 pancakes, 3 eggs (cooked any way), grits, hash browns, and bacon, ham or andouille sausage. I was a little disappointed because the pancakes were not as large as I expected but they were thicker than I expected. For some reason, we did not get hash browns with our orders and received no explanation of why not. But that was okay because the amount of food we received was tremendous and we would not have not been able to eat them anyway. While I may have been a little disappointed with the size of the pancakes, I was happily surprised with the amount of food. Another disappointment was the lack of flavor of the sweet potato pancakes. My expectation entailed the taste of a sweet potato pie in pancake form. Maybe my expectation made me negate the real taste of the pancakes. Actually, the pancakes tasted better once maple syrup was placed atop them. Additionally, the eggs were nicely scrambled and the grits were not lumpy. The atmosphere, the amount of food and the impeccable service warranted the 4 stars from me. One star was deducted because of the small pancakes (I expected them to be larger (wider diameter). I came here for brunch today with my daughter. We were quickly sat. shortly after being greeted by our server we got our drinks. We had the shrimp omelette and a side order of pancakes. The pancakes were tasty, but tough. The omelette with the tastiest thing on my plate. The toast was cold and the potatoes were burnt. I know noticed The little black specs but you could taste the burnt flavor throughout the hashbrowns. I sent them back and 10 minutes later my server said they were out and offered smothered potatoes instead and I had to wait another 5 to 10 minutes for those which were piping hot and also burnt. The manager took off my drink since I didn't order a side of hashbrowns. I noticed we were the only table eating breakfast everyone else ordered lunch. I should have gotten the hint. Food is good here and if they could get quality servers here they would be better. We walked in on a Saturday night in between rain showers and seated ourselves at a high top in the bar. It took longer than it should have to get a server, even though they were both standing less than 20 feet from us. My son had a shrimp poboy and I had the BBQ burger. The burger was great, except the shredded cheese was straight out the bag and not at all warm and then I somehow got BBQ sauce on the side and not on the burger, odd since I ordered a BBQ burger. I can tell you for a fact Larry treated my son and I way different then the couple that came in towards the end of our meal. Like we were gonna be a hassle. Really? I hate to say it but I believe I have food poisoning. I ate a Fried Green Tomato burger for lunch and within 30 minutes my stomach was churning and I have been running to the restroom on and off for the last couple of hours. It's a shame because I have eaten there many times in the past and never experienced anything like I have been going through today. I decided to give this restaurant a try one Saturday night after stopping by some of the restaurants in Towne Center and refusing to wait over an hour to eat at a chain restaurant. In trying to think of places nearby that aren't chains, I remembered that I wanted to try this place out. I was feeling a little grumpy and picky because of the hassle of trying to find a reasonable place, but I had a good feeling about this place as soon as we walked in. However, I was a little disappointed when I looked at the menu. There is a LOT of fried food. The onion rings were really good though and so was the remoulade sauce it came with. My salad was tasty and so were the sweet potato fries I stole off of my date's plate. He loved his gouda burger and the fact they were able to cook it rare, which some places won't do. (I understand the ground beef thing, but I'm suspicious of places that simply won't do it.) Overall, if I'm in the mood to indulge a bit in more fattening foods, I'll totally be back. We went from here to another steak house for drinks and actually got what we paid for. Yeah, we had a $80 bar tab by the time we were done, but there wasn't a doubt in our minds or our BAC that we'd been served drinks with full pours and more. It's not a matter of "you get what you pay for," but rather a matter of really poor bar tending coupled with mediocre steaks. To be honest, if I get a gift certificate to go here again it will be my "regift" to someone else who I don't especially like. There's no page for the Cafe Americain at Juban yet, so I'll leave my review here. I'll start off by saying I had no problem with the food or the service. But I did have a problem with the restaurant's "rule" of not being able to substitute dirty rice for anything. As a Catholic, I don't eat meat on Friday's during lent, like thousands of other Catholics in the area. Being forced to keep a side containing meat in my meal is just inconsiderate. I would've gladly paid extra to substitute the rice for something else, but was told I could not. I just told the waitress to tell the cooking staff to not even put the rice on my plate, because it would be wasted. Not only is this "rule" inconsiderate for Catholics, but also to people whose dietary constraints don't allow them to have rice. Hopefully someone from the restaurant sees this and can make a change. read more

My family of 3 had an awesome time out tonight. There were two large parties happening in the restaurant, but the owner made sure to seat as as fast as possible. We were offered drinks on the house before we were seated which was very nice. Once we were seated, we got a spinach dip for the table. It was amazing...lots of artichoke and a good, smoky flavor. My mom ordered the reddish and my dad got the stuffed flounder, both of which were delicious. The lobster bisque was also great! Can't wait to be back here. Went here with my brother and best friend on a Saturday. They didn't appear to be that busy-nothing special; just a hole in the wall. Looks fancy on the outside but looks can be deceiving. Service was VERY SLOW, even though she had like 2 tables. We never received our appetizer, and I think they tried to charge me for it at first. The manager wasn't very professional. He dressed down, and you wouldn't even have known he was a manager by looking at him. He didn't seem to care that we had a bad experience, and just made an excuse. This place was wonderful!! Situated in a kind of strip-mall setting, but do not let that deter you...this is a gem! There is outdoor seating, which we did not take advantage of because if the humidity, (this was in June) but I'm sure would be great on a nice day. Large bar area...there was a large party in one of the private rooms...a cooler right up front with goodies you can take home... We had our large party of 16 or so, a little overwhelming for our one waitress, but she was SPOT ON!! She was friendly, feisty, and fast! She had the best stories! I wish I could remember her name she was so much fun..... The food was so good, that my husband actually ordered salmon, and he is not a huge fan of fish...he ate the ENTIRE thing! Meh. It was okay. I saw that sashimi grade tuna was on the menu. Normally, I am leery about ordering that, but Cafe Americain had a picture of their tuna on the website - it was seared about a milimeter thick, then nice and red, cold and raw the rest of the way. I ordered it and was very specific to the waitress. It came slightly reddish in the exact center and cooked all the rest of the way through. I sent it back; the chef come out to argue with me, then he threw the server under the bus and blamed her. I eventually got another tuna steak. It was definitely NOT sashimi grade, but was cooked slightly better, although it was still not cooked as they advertise on their website. I had 5 dining companions, all of whom were also in the "meh" category on this meal. It was acceptable food, but not great. In a town like Baton Rouge, you can do better. read more

I hadn't dined here in a long time so we decided to eat here Friday night. We ordered the broiled seafood platter and the grilled catfish and shrimp plate. We each got the sensation salad. My seafood platter consisted of grilled catfish and shrimp, one stuffed shrimp, some oysters, a stuffed potato, and what I presume to be some small crab claws but they were overdone and too chewy. I also had a hush puppy on the plate but I don't eat fried foods. Also, I don't care for oysters, so I didn't eat those, but the rest of my plate was okay. My dinner date had the grilled catfish and shrimp with a side of sautéed potatoes and a house sensation salad. The potatoes were pretty burnt so only a couple was eaten. I was kind of disappointed that the waitress brought out a plate that was so burnt and didn't say anything or attempt to apologize. Overall the food was good, but I just wished my plate had more stuffed shrimp and minus the scorched potatoes. My plate also came with a nice size bowl of seafood gumbo that had a good amount of shrimp in it. This place is so close so we will be back again in the future. read more

If they are unable to serve both their restaurant and catering customers, the should stick to one clientele. The wait time for an appetizer was over 30 minutes, and we didn't even get the right appetizer. In addition, they didn't even take the time to cook the burger to medium as requested. The servers repeatedly told our table as well as others that the kitchen was backed up with a catering order, which is not an excuse to neglect your customers. My lady friends went to lunch today at Cafe Americain Juban Shopping Center in Denham Springs, La. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the food was outstanding. Disappointing dinner during Restaurant Week We have been to this restaurant many times and have never been disappointed...until last night. We arrived and there at approximately 6pm and noted there were few customers in the restaurant. We were seated immediately and the waitress took our drink orders. About 15 minutes later, we had to call the waitress over to bring us the drinks we had ordered. She got the drinks and then took our dinner and dessert orders. All six of our party ordered from the BR Restaurant Week Prixe Frixe menu. No one made any substantial changes in the order. We all received our appetizers quickly and that were quite good. About one hour later, after asking several times when we would get our dinner. Finally five of us received our entrees. The sixth person in our party was told that the kitchen ¨lost his ticket¨and they were working on it. Then, those of us who had entrees served with baked potatoes asked for some butter and cheese as the potatoes were served completely dry! Our waitress explained that she would bring us some butter and cheese but there would be an upcharge applied to our bills! Who has ever heard of a baked potato being served completely dry. Later, the waitress returned to ask us for our dessert orders. We pointed out to her that the sixth person in our party still had NO DINNER. At that point we asked the waitress to put the last dinner in a to go box and also pack up all the desserts (included in the menu) as to go orders. The waitress then returned with six desserts all in one bag. We explained to her that we were three couples and needed the desserts split up. She went away very displeased. Then we realized that three of the desserts were plain cheesecake. Upon ordering these we were told that they would come with chocolate rum sauce. When we asked for this with out cheesecake she acted disgusted. We asked for the menu to come to the table and comp the meal for the person who did not receive a meal. The manager came to the table and said, ¨he ate the appetizer and got his dessert, he´ll have to pay for that¨ We were all so tired of dealing with all this, we agreed to pay for that portion of his meal and left. Had a really dreadful dinner here; the entire meal was just awful. ! I used to love their food, and always looked forward to their homemade fried onion rings and fried shrimp. This time, everything has been changed, for the worse. The onion rings were obviously something frozen from a bag - so bad, I sent them back, which I rarely do. The shrimp batter was just not good, I couldn't finish them. And the pie for dessert was not nearly as good as a frozen grocery store pie. Went for lunch thursday and truly did not anticipate what I saw---arrived shortly before noon and it was packed---no tables available, a couple ahead of us and a lady waiting on her date. Interestingly enough looks like most people eating there were older than me and I am no spring chicken. Waiter whose name I forget found us a table in the bar---was thoughtful enough to make sure we were okay with the bar table, which we were. Our server was a different gentleman but just as polite and thoughtful---only misstep was he forgot to bring me butter for crackers however he realized that and apologized later. The menu looks great and there are many lunch items for the week plus day lunch specials. Thursdays was seafood pasta which comes with a generous salad. The seafood pasta did not look like it would be something I could not finish however I was unable to do so and had a doggie bag.
