Visited this cafe during my visit to New York. Stood at the counter for about 10 minutes while the barista was busy cutting up some baked goods. She very obviously saw my presence but just chose to leave me standing there without saying a word. No "I'll be right with you" or "Just give me one second". The she proceeded to go to the back. I was the only person in line to order and nobody was in desperate need of coffee cake, so I just found the whole interaction to be quite odd. I almost left but she finally came out to take my order. The latte was not very good at all. The location is nice, which is why I am giving it two stars. But the service and coffee was below average and I would not recommend. Came here for coffee and breakfast. Plenty of seating outside. Covid protocols are being followed. We ordered a turkey breakfast sandwich which was really good! Crispy bread and the jam that's inside was a nice touch. There's a side of salad that it comes with which was ok. My friend orders a croissant breakfast Sandwhich, pretty good! Buttery and oozing cheese. The ice coffee wasn't as strong as I'd like. But wouldn't mind going back. I came in to study and they immediately flagged that there was no laptops or studying allowed, even though I was working from a textbook and had no laptop with me. The woman was very rude and also refused to recommend anywhere else in the area claiming "there are no other places really" even though there are dozens in the area. I passed by Amrita a month ago and the vibe looked great so I was super excited to try it and maybe make it my go-to-spot for homework during the week and maybe a chill hangout for weekends because it has a bar (I love coffee shops/bars). I went in today and had to leave because the staff was so unwelcoming. I ordered a coffee and asked if I could use an outlet to do homework. The woman at the front said there was none in the shop. I asked again just to clarify because I was kinda surprised since it was a cafe. She rudely said a second time no. I was about to leave and then Someone else then said there indeed was an outlet by the TV. I brushed it off and went back inside because the food looks great and I wanted to try. I did need to do homework so I asked to use the WiFi which I was told they didn't have any... there was a sign directly behind the woman who told me no that said "computers, studying and WiFi will not be available on weekends." Soooo I guess she just lied? I'm not sure. I didn't feel welcomed and immediately left which sucks because I had been really hyping this place up for a month. read more

The inside reminds me of a dive bar complete with filthy floors, but the patio seating is definitely brunchable. Menu of coffee drinks was just okay, and the chai latte may need to be removed as it was watered down and didn't have much flavor. Service was a little odd. The only thing this cafe has going for it is that they are just about the only one in the vicinity. Coffee and food is not that good. But the worse thing is the counter person. There's this short , stocky, long-haired, sour and dour-looking lady with an "ATTITUDE" spelled all in caps. I think she was the last in line when the gods distributed their smiles. She seems like she hates being on the job. I don't know if her attitude spells owner or employee. If she just works there, I would highly recommend to the management to put her in the back scene, or 6ft social distance (sorry I meant to say 6miles) away from customers. Now if she is the owner moreso she shouldn't be acting this way to paying customers, such disrespect and disregard. Don't go unless you are ready for that kind of treatment, an unpleasant start just to get your morning joe. read more

Okay, so I want to preface this with - I got HORRIFIC food poisoning from here, and I really double checked to make sure this was the only thing I ate that I hadn't been eating previously when this happened. However, I am currently still recovering from this experience. The reason it is not no stars or one stars is that I loved the atmosphere of this place and the service. If they didn't make me puke my guts out for three hours in the middle of the night I think maybe I would have made this into one of my go-to spots. But it literally made me so sick, and I'm not surprised considering the sheer amount of roaches I saw scurrying around by the entrance to the back area and the bar. This cafe, as one of the only full-service cafes in the area, is obviously profiting from their lack of competition. The service is abhorrent, there's an older woman (proprietor​?) who works the counter and is probably the most unfriendly​ ​person in the neighborhood. Not only is the counter staff incredibly inefficient, but the food and coffee also​ take FOREVER. The food isn't bad, which is why this review isn't one star, but for the price, I don't need your attitude. Save your money and head to other nearby cafes that have popped up in recent years like Cafe Frederick or Caffeine. read more

This place is the best and true neighborhood spot. I get coffee here almost every day and am greeted so kindly by the folks behind the bar and register. Haven't had the food yet but friends who visited the city had brunch here and raved about the food. My partner tried one of the frozen drinks before going on a walk in the park and he loved it. Again, it's a true local spot in every sense of the word. And I DEFINITELY recommend it as a place to stop to grab a drink to go before walking through the park. read more

Cute little café/eatery in Harlem. They're open late which is plus. I came here around 7pm with a friend to get some work done. There were quite a few people but there's ample seating so it didn't feel crowded. Noise level wasn't too bad. There were others working, some people on dates, some at the bar watching TV or talking to friends. It took us a few minutes to get service as there was one one guy behind the bar at the time. I'll probably come back another day, maybe early morning to see what the vibe is like. read more

Food wasn't bad but the service is. Very slow and sometime you never know if the lady is in a good mood or not. Stopped by here with a group friends while walking through the area. Our friend who appears white ordered an alcoholic drink to go and was not told that she must but food. Our friend who is black shortly afterwards by the same man behind the counter, who appeared to be the manager and owner, was told that she must buy food with her alcoholic drink to go. She was confused by the difference in his treatment and al he questioned her asking if she was new around here when she simply was surprised that she would be asked to buy food when our other friend was not. After making the purchase necessary, a couple of us approached the man explaining why we were confused by the inconsistent treatment and he became very defensive. Comfortable place to study at during the day with wall seating and mistmatched chairs and tables. Coffee is ok but they lack a variety of pastries at night. Had the guac with chips (sm $5) and it was good but not exceptional. I think the menu is pricey but on par with NY. Sandwiches, salads, wraps about $8. Coffee about $2. No table service which is nice but they should bring the food to your table instead of having to keep getting up to get it from the counter. Also you need a code for the bathroom door, makes you feel like you are a gas station bathroom. They are open late but not a good place to study after the sun goes down= tooo dark. They have dim lighting with candles, while this ambiance is good for drinks, not good for studying so I had to leave early as I could not see anymore. Wonderful neighborhood cafe with yummy sandwiches and salads. Incredible lattes and usually really, really good iced tea (depending on who's working!). The brunch is awesome - try the pancakes or waffles. Don't expect super fast food service when they're busy (like on weekends) cause there's just one cook. But it's worth the wait to me. Really good happy hour. They recently added traditional Sangria to the menu too, which is delicious and will definitely give you a buzz after one glass. Love the vibe. Music varies depending on who's working, but I've loved the mix of things every time I've come except the one night when it was randomly all reggae all night! One reggae song, great, two, fine, ten... a bit much! :) This is definitely a coffee bar/sandwich place by day and a chill bar at night. It's hard to give a review for a place like this. It's true that the people working at Amrita aren't the most warm or welcoming people. But don't take it personally. Also, I don't always need people to be. The coffee drinks are good, but what really draws me in is the QUICHE. The quiche is always excellent and delicious and I have dragged people there just for the quiche. Lots of tables, always a hodge podge of people there. read more

This is a really cute and cozy cafe. We came here a few times for some drinks since we were staying nearby. It didn't matter if it was 8pm or 9am, this place is always packed, filled with people chatting, on their laptops or reading books. They have all sorts of sandwiches for lunch, breakfast croissants and bagels for breakfast. On the weekend, they serve pancakes. It's also right off the 110 st. station. This cafe really feels like what a hipster/NYC version of Cheers would be like. The restaurant has a vibe of it being a place where everybody knows your name & the staff really does know all the regulars names. Their wine is around $6 per glass and their food is delicious. They have a surprisingly large selection of Mexican apps which I will be back to taste test - guacamole, salsa and tacos. Their sandwiches are a favorite among the regulars. The grilled chicken panini was ordered again and again. There is also beer on tap, espresso based drinks, teas and pellegrino. As well as an assortment of baked goods. A real neighborhood cafe. The food is good. It's comfortable, and the staff is friendly, and there's a full bar with Happy Hour from 4-7 pm. The wifi is pretty dependable, but I wish they had more outlets. Try the peanut butter cookies. They're fabulous. read more

Im highly disgusted of how the Owner Rob handled a situation with me earlier tonight. I started going to this cafe in the beginning of the year and established relationships with the employees there. Tonight around 8:30PM I get there & sat at a table and within minutes comes in Rob (Owner) with a local hockey team and asked a woman if she can move to make way for the large crowd. She did, however when Rob (The Owner) asked me I respectfully refused. As a patron I didn't feel obligated to move as I am a paying customer like everyone else. However, Rob kept nagging the situation and I stated that he should have a sign up notifying people that he's reserving seats for a large party. Rob than says "I've own this place for 15 years, and I've been doing this for a while" LIKE I DONT GIVE A FUCK. He should treat every Patron with respect, if you want to have reserve seats for your boys club that's great, place a reserve seat notice on the tables as a way to notify paying customers. Don't just come in and demand people to move around to accommodate your friends. I will no longer be coming to this establishment and will possibly buy the building and remove him. read more

I came here on a weekday evening to get some work done on my laptop. The lights were dimmed and the atmosphere was dive bar-like, however; this didn't bother me at all and I didn't feel out of place or unwelcome. The place is spacious, so there were plenty of tables available; some people were drinking at the bar and socializing, others, like me, were working, and all seemed to be coexisting fine. The food was ok. I ordered a meatball sandwich with a side salad. Standard bar food, good portion, average value for the price. You have to order your food at the counter and pay for it there, too. My only issue with this is, when you pay your bill on the ipad, you're pretty much forced to tip at least 18%. This seems a little absurd to me, given that you're not even really being served. I would still return to do some work over a beer or coffee, although I would probably not order a full meal again. In summary-- Pros: -you can sit here for a long time doing whatever you like (socializing or working on laptop) without being bothered by the staff, at least during non-peak times -reliable wi-fi, not spotty at all -friendly, relaxed, casual vibe Cons: -understaffed; not much service available -you still have to tip a high percentage even though you're not being served -average quality food -not the greatest value (not expensive, but not cheap either) read more

I actually got a lot of work done. It's not too bright and isn't too dark. Perfectly lit to comfortably study, read, or pound some keys on your laptop. I tried the chicken tacos and they were delicious. The area is large compared to most coffee shops which can feel cramped at times. This place isn't, can easily be converted to a lounge but serves the purpose of casual, get into a new space, relax environment. I appreciated the service. read more
