The lao sausages were nicely textured and a flavor explosion perfectly spicy, sweet and savory. Going during a game is kinda crazy, but the next time we went it was calmer and we sat outside (a little chilly though). Here's what we ordered: Artist Steak: delicious!! I love steak on a hot plate and the flavor is fantastic. I also like the fries. So good. Yellowtail: or is it Hamachi? Sooo good. The fish is so soft and I love how it's like a DIY handroll. We ordered two for four people, so you can tell we really liked this. Xoi Chien: I always love a xoi chien and the lap xuong is on point! The dipping sauce is good too. We went on a Saturday evening around 5pm. A lot of their dishes I would consider "Vietnamese bar food." On that note.. the food is soo good!! I tried several dishes and loved all of them! The steak is really flavorful and cooked exactly the way we asked (medium rare). I've been going to Artist for the last three decades, and let me tell you, it's been my favorite spot since the '90s. So when my teenage daughter casually mentions she wants balut, I thought, "Why not?"--and next thing you know, I'm hauling all three teenage girls here before the place even opens to make sure it's still family-friendly. Cuz... the later it gets, the rowdier it gets. If you know what I mean..... The food? Never disappoints. It's like Vietnamese street food, but without the risk of getting hit by a motorbike. Small restaurant, can accommodate large and small groups. Vibe reminds me of a dive bar, they only have beer and wine. Great place to hang out with your friends. Cajun Crawfish: 5/5. Big oh boy! What a delight that they offer live crawfish this season. We were here last week and super happy they had live crawfish. Scallops (raw) on the shell: 5/5 it's a must have with a touch of the wasabi soy sauce. Red Surf Clams Salad: 5/5. It's unique and with the herbs and onions in this salad, it should deserve 6 stars. The clams are thinly sliced so the texture is not chewy at all. Sizzling Platter Steak: 5/5. It's a nice hearty cut of a fatty ribeye that comes with fries on the side. I had mine medium rare and it was to perfection. (Forgot to take a photo of it. I dove right in and was done with it after I wanted to take the pic) The servers here are prompt and are so sweet! I scheduled a visit here for the crawfish after a friend said they were fresh and amazing. She was right. Super garlicky, piping hot, and so juicy! The reason for 2 stars is because this place is disgusting. The walls are covered in mildew, oil, and grease buildup. People are smoking indoors ( the workers and even perhaps owners). The tables are dirty, the bowls came out with black stuff in them, the chairs were sticky. All the employees are coughing and the elder man preparing jalapeños or fresh herbs (snipping them) was coughing inside the bag full of them. As for the food - ordered the basil clams for $16. I removed all the shells before eating bc I like to drench it in sauce. Only counted 12 clams. Like I mentioned, crawfish was amazing. Some of the best. Would I come back? Absolutely not. This place is screaming a positive covid test and some other infectious diseases. I went home and immediately hopped in the shower.
