I remember the first time I ever ate at a Nordstrom Café. We had a 6-hour layover in LA and my dad wanted to get out and stretch our legs after endless hours of airplane travel home from Asia. Although I was only a young teenager and hadn't quite grown into the 'foodie' I've now become *sarcastic grin*, I still remember our lunch as being pretty special. Fast forward 1 1/2 decades later, and my second lunch experience at Nordstrom's Cafe was just as pleasant. The ambience is upscale yet still very warm and inviting, and caters to diners of all ages. I ordered the Niçoise salad with grilled salmon. It was a generous portion and flavours melded very nicely together, although the salmon was just a smidge overdone. My husband's turkey sandwich came on fantastic sunflower bread but probably needed a touch more acidity to combat the sweetness of the cranberry chutney. This place is kid-friendly, too, and offers several dining options for that pint-sized wee one. I have discovered that Nordstrom's- in general- is extremely baby, kid, and family-friendly. There are family restrooms located on the ground floor, and women's lounges (perfect for nursing moms) located on both levels. I am a huge fan and will continue to frequent Nordstrom's regularly from now on. read more

I'm been wanting to try the cafe at Nordstrom's forever, but it seems like I always forget about it when it comes time to actually decide where to go for lunch. I was meeting a friend for lunch last week and she suggested it so i was all over it. I have been in Nordstrom's many times but didn't even know where it was, it is pretty inconspicuous upstair's past the women's clothing. it's in a great spot for browsing while waiting for friends to arrive. They have a nice selection of salads and hot dishes. Everything sounded very good and I finally decided on the asian chicken salad. The ordering system is a little different, you order and pay and then sit down and are served for the rest of the time. that meant i had to leave a tip on the table as opposed to adding it to my credit card charge. It wasn't a problem since I had some cash, but I would prefer to pay for check and tip together. my salad was very tasty. my only complaint is that for a $12 salad it was on the small side. I had no problem finishing the whole thing which isn't typical for me. It also would've been nice to have had a roll or some bread with it. It's on the pricey side for an everyday lunch, but a nice change of pace from the chaos of the food court. read more

Yesterday, my husband and I decided to go here after running a couple of errands in the mall. My husband wasn't expecting much, and kept on saying that it was weird to eat in a restaurant that is located in an anchor store. We arrived around 6:30pm and the restaurant was pretty much dead. The waiter greeted us at the front and gave us the menu's and the special's for the day. My husband decided to try the bbq sandwich special, which came with fries, and I ordered the roasted chicken with angel hair pasta. My plate was delicious and the chicken was quite large, and the sauce was surprisingly fresh with basil, clams. and tomato sauce. The angel hair pasta was also good and had a light butter sauce on the side. My husband's sandwich, which ended up being a bbq panini looked delicious also. I was jealous though because the fries looked crispy and hot (there is nothing worse than limp fries!), and also came with an olive dipping sauce as well as an aioli sauce, which both were okay, but ketchup would have been just as good! We will certainly be back to enjoy this bistro when we need to stop at SouthPointe Mall! read more

Nordstrom's Cafe Bistro is a hidden gem - and I mean hidden because I brought 2 friends here for lunch and they had no clue this place existed, despite having shopped here multiple times. A great escape for a long work lunch b/c it feels extra special. It's a small cafe on the 2nd floor of Nordstrom where you check with the hostess for a table, then when one is available you go to the counter to order and pay. You are then seated and can patiently wait for your order in cozy booths and tables. They offer a nice selection of salads, sandwiches and pizzas. I've tried the shrimp salad with cilantro lime dressing, zesty turkey and the chicken panini with goat cheese. All very good. My only complaint is they have trouble seating parties with odd numbers. My party of 3 waited 30 minutes for a table, while groups of 2 arrived behind us and were seated right away. So, it may not be a spot if you have a fixed lunch hour, but if your time is flexible you'll enjoy your meal at this cafe. read more

This is my favorite place to eat at Southpoint Mall. My favorite items are the Cilantro lime shrimp salad, pommes frites with aioli, and crab bisque soup. They also have some good sandwiches and pizza. I also like the fact that you are able to order half portions on many of the menu items. They don't show half portion options on the menu so you will have to make a special request when you order. Service is topnotch. Prices are on the higher side for a cafe, but that's expected. You're dining in a cafe at an upscale specialty retailer. If you feel like cheating on your diet, try the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Amazing. read more

Nice place to grab a bite to eat while at the Mall. The atmosphere is nice and not as overpriced as you might think being at Nordies, The fries are really good. The crab bisque was also good, except I didn't care for the garnish - I think it was pickels or something, The menu could be a litle more exciting I think. I miss the Blue Stove - the restaurant at Nord in Thousand Oaks, CA. It's a Tapas style restaurant. Must go if you are ever there. read more

I completely agree about this place. The salads are delicious, Its a very kid friendly place and OMG...the fries and tapenade dip are incredible. I never liked olives before having that dip. I didn't know I was eating olives. If I had known it was an olive dip, I wouldn't have tried it, but now I can't get enough of it. Yummmmm. read more

This was one of my favorite places to eat when I was at Duke. It's a bit pricey but the sandwiches and French fries are filling and highly addictive. The service is always excellent although the system of walk up ordering, paying then sitting down and tipping a server is a bit odd. Everything on the menu is wonderful. Yes, this place is hidden in Nordstrom, but it's not as much of a secret as you might think. This place gets very full around lunch. The steak w/frites is a good bet, as well as the cilantro lime shrimp salad. You'll eat well here. I just am not a big fan of the concept: Order at the counter, with waiter service after the fact is a somewhat muddled implementation of what I like in a restaurant. If I order at a counter, I am well capable of getting my own drink, along with refills. The waitstaff seemed wholly unnecessary. I take that back. They did manage to break up the flow of my conversation. The round dining room is uncomfortable to me, and it's just not my thing. I don't want a full view of everyone eating around me. Just no. 4* for food. 3* due to the fact that I just don't care for it. I'm sure this is the height of class and elegance for some. It just doesn't work for me. 3* for value. read more

Ok, Nordstrom Bistro... We are breaking up. You changed the recipe of the Salmon Caesar salad and it's just not worth $20 anymore. Maybe it's my fault for ordering 10 minutes before closing but I'm heartbroken. The salmon tastes freezer burned and way too fishy. What happened to the cheese crisps? The final deal breaker.... Stale croutons. I know I don't need the carbs but those croutons used to be worth it. Past tense. You get one star for old time's sake. I've been eating here for years, use to be my favorite, would have given it 4 stars, however with the current staff I rarely visit. The staff in the department store are quite amenable, yet in the bistro is not up to par. There is one ray of light in of the bistro serving staff, Thomas, an excellent waiter, polite and ready to please. If the management upgrades their servers with more like Thomas, I would make this bistro my regular once again. With this said the food is usually tasty. However, they changed the menu early this year and removed some of my favorites like, salmon with gazpacho. The menu offers me less healthier options currently. read more

I look forward to coming here every time I come home to visit my family. Their fries are really crispy, shoestring fries seasoned to perfection. I usually get the citrus turkey sandwich which has actual turkey, not deli meat, with this super delicious chutney that I wish they sold in a jar. I enjoyed this place 4 years ago when they had a different menu. They used to have this amazing flat iron steak sandwich that was to die for with gorgonzola cheese and arugula. The past few years I frequented their Paramus location and noticed Durham now has the same menu. Prices are the same but the Paramus location is more upscale in terms of service, decor and has a bar. I had the special today which was a rueben sandwich served on thin lightly toasted pumpernickel bread and on the salty side. A week ago I had the chicken and goat cheese panini which was served on thin white bread. Maybe they don't have focaccia bread in the south? Great concept inside Nordstrom as I've never seen in NY. This cafe is more than just a cafeteria and serves up a decent selection of gourmet dishes, ranging from individual sized pizza to hearty pasta dishes. You first order upon entrance to the cafe and seat yourself to be served your food orders after a short wait. The margarita pizza looked simple yet tasty, thin crispy crust and not much grease on top. The Swiss & ham sandwich was warm with melted cheese, a standard sandwich choice but also looked very tasty from my friend's reaction. The French fries looked DELICIOUS, they were the French style thin fries (like in steak & frites) with sprinkles of herbs on top. Almost as good as McD's! (kidding.) I had the grilled chicken & Roma tomato angel hair pasta with oyster mushrooms and spinach, and with some lemon cream sauce on the side. This dish was also light but flavorful enough to make you want to lick the whole plate clean! The Roma tomatoes had a rich flavor and complements well with oyster mushrooms, which was a creative combination. Lemon cream sauce was not heavy and goes well with the grilled chicken. Now I just need to find this cafe at the Nordstrom's in NY!!! read more

My sister and I were on a shopping trip at Southpoint and decided we didn't want to eat at the food court nor was I up for walking to any of the restaurants outside(too prego and tired for it at the time). When she suggested we try this place I was pleasantly surprised upon seeing it was upstairs and not the cafe I was thinking about downstairs. You stand in line to order and the menu was fantastic so I was very excited. However I grew more and more disappointed as the wait for the food was sooooo long. I know that I am a ravenous pregnant person, but even for a NORMAL person it was too long. My salmon and risotto came out cold but by that time I was so hungry I just ate it. Then we asked our waitress if we can order fries. She assured us they'd be right up but we were almost done eating when I asked about them the last time. The fries ended up never coming and when I asked about it she wasn't the least big apologetic. She really didn't seem to care to be there and that was more off putting than not getting the fries lol. It was really terrible, spotty service. The food was actually pretty good so it sucks my experience was really not up to par. Not sure I'll give it another chance. Oh well. read more

For a little bistro, it is 5 stars. The service is great and the wines by the glass are a fabulous quality--much better than I expected. They made a mistake on my pizza and corrected it completely. I can't comment too much on the menu because I tend to order the same thing every time: the citrus turkey sandwich, with those inimitable fries and the kalamata olive aioli, which is to die for.
