5 stars for the food because it's incredible. 1 star because the lunch service is AWFUL. My first experience at lunch was solo and I was there for almost an hour and a half because my server just did not care at all. I had to get up and pay at the front because I was sick of waiting. Weeks later, we go back and I CANNOT believe that this girl still works there, but somehow she does. And, unfortunately she's our server AGAIN. Only she didn't wait on us, the other server did almost the entire time. The other server was great, but do I know the terrible server's name? NO because she does not introduce herself, follow the steps of service, or even know what soup is being served for the day. Dinner service has always been pleasant but this is my third horrible lunch experience with the same server. My advice...ORDER TAKE OUT FOR LUNCH. read more

Cafe Chinois is our "go to" restaurant, and we took our daughter there for the first time. First thing we noticed was that the menu changed. Our server John Pike explained the changes and skillfully guided us through the selections. I do not give 5 stars often. I usually think there is always room for improvement. Tonight was pretty close to perfect. Arrived on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 around 6:30ish. The person on the front desk was a bit flustered and appeared to be rattled by the volume of people coming in vis-a-vis an available table. We were so lucky to have Skate as our server and ambassador for Cafe Chinois. There appeared to be only two servers on the floor, with managers pitching in to bus the tables. Skate was adorable, personable, knowledgeable with regard to the menu, and absolutely a delight. She treated the two of us like we were the only people in the restaurant. First of all, the decor is exceptional! What a visual restaurant experience! The atmosphere is calm, sophisticated and very welcoming. The service was very good with a minor glitch here and there as the staff becomes more seasoned with fine dining presentation. (I did notice the music was off for a considerable amount of time.) The dishes were amazing! And what a selection; only to tempt you back for more! The Southern Thai chicken and yellow curry are my current favorites.The Chinese Roast Duck will be my next choice!! I enjoyed a cocktail " Birds of Hanoi" very much while one of my companions raved about the "Mai Tai". Don't miss the desserts!! You'll not be disappointed! The sorbets were my favorite. I've ordered take out from here twice now. It is really pretty inside and I'd like to actually eat in one time to enjoy the decor, atmosphere and drinks. The people working are all very kind. The first time I ordered Zealia was at the front and took my order and I'm pretty sure she's the nicest person I've ever met. She was really sweet and helpful. I ordered the pad Thai with shrimp. The seafood options are shrimp or scallops for $3 extra. The food came out quickly, maybe 10 mintues. When I got home to eat I was disappointed to see only 4 shrimp. But ended up finding a 5th under all the noodles. That 5th made a big difference because 4 shrimp for $3 didn't seem right. The pad Thai was excellent. The shrimp was very good but the pad Thai was so delicious by itself I would honestly be fine eating it without adding anything. The second time I ordered pad see ew. This is normally my favorite Thai dish. Different chef different recipe in this case I guess because if this was the first place I had ever tried pad see ew I would never order it again. It just had an overall salty taste, followed by a burnt aftertaste. Not sure what happened but it was my least favorite pad see ew I've ever eaten. But again the people were friendly and food came out fast!! (This time maybe too fast? I was told it would be 20 min. I got there in 5, went in to pay and was ok with waiting but it was already done!!) With the odd taste and being done so quickly I wondered if I ended up with reheated leftovers or something. Wow!!! Fantastic food, fun art and outstanding service. Nancy, our server, greeted us right away, was spot on with recommendations and took great care of us. After spending most of a month in Thailand I have high hopes for my favorite dish, panang curry. I'm often a bit disappointed with versions served in the States. NOT the case here. Fabulous thick curry with plenty of sweet potato, green beans, onions, etc. My husband loved his Drunken Noodles. For dessert we decided on the Thai coffee cake. My first time here and I was looking for a pho soup near me for lunch. I was hopping they have boba tea but they don't they do have Thai tea drink. My server was a nice guy and friendly. My initial thought was to go to Indochine, but my niece suggested Cafe Chinois which is closer to where they live. Found out later that Chinois is a sister restaurant to Indochine, so all was good. Seating is a little tight, but comfortable. The place is well decorated and beautiful inside. I ordered the Choo-Chee Salmon Curry which was supposed to have a fiery red curry. The sauce was somewhat bland and more brown in color than most red curries I've had. The salmon itself was cooked well. The five treasure rice it came with was delicious, although I did bite something very hard which I thought might have broken a tooth. The steamed broccoli was inconsistent; some of the pieces were cooked fine, some were actually cold, and some were under cooked. The service was good, but at the end we all felt they were trying to get us out fast. Most everyone seemed to like their meals, unfortunately I thought it was underwhelming. read more

I've given this place 3 tries after this year after I stopped coming couple years and it gets worst and worst, from service and food. I've tried from curry to noodles and today beef soup. Soup tasted like canned beef broth with a lot of soy sauce. Making ramen at home would have been better. I'm sorry , I'm familiar with how different food tastes, this isn't it. It took me a really long time to finally get to eat here, but it was so worth the wait. Wait. I had heard that Indonesian had opened a sister restaurant just feet from my house and so I tried to go a number of times. But they're closed on Sundays which was usually one of my days to eat out, so that was no good and then a couple other times I went they weren't open either. Either. But yesterday they were open. Small place from the front but when I went in it was more than three times. The size I expected. And the decorations and room design was awesome. Really cool colors, eclectic walls with all kinds of art and some giant pottery with beautiful plants. It was just beautiful. I had already looked at the lunch menu to get an idea of what I wanted to try. I'm not very familiar with Asian food so I tend to go for something that sounds like something I know. And looking at what my friends ended up getting. I definitely want to try that next time. We did a lot of looking around at what other people were eating and it was tough to identify but everything looks delicious. Especially this tall white cake that the people next to us had. And he said it was a coconut cake. I don't usually order desserts, and definitely not coconut things, but it looked delicious and so the whole table shared and it even came with ice cream, coconut ice cream which didn't have chunks of coconut in it and it was delicious. Delicious. Even my friend who doesn't like the texture of coconut really enjoyed it. It was awesome. The service was great. Right down to the take-home boxes were starting. My friends love it there so much that they order extra meals so they can have it the next day. I would not hesitate to recommend going there. This lovely establishment is walking distance from my house - so lunch and dinner are frequent here. Their outdoor courtyard is a beautiful little oasis. Their cocktails are lovely. The indoor ambiance is a delight with curated art and furniture (even in the bathroom!) Some of my favorite orders are the pad Thai with shrimp, any of the curries (especially the Penang) the salmon Choo Che (when I'm trying to minimize carbs). My husband is vegan and loves the yellow curry with tofu and the mango salad here. It's the little sister of Indochine. Check it out! read more

Wow! Really good flavors. I have enough for another big dinner tomorrow night. The Vietnamese Aubergine a la Chinois had a very good flavor, texture and spice. Generally speaking, we love the food from Indochine and we have been to Cafe Chinois once before. I think if you go in as a party of two, you are always going to get stuck in a corner or next to the door. I just wish they would pull the tables away from the wall a bit. Sitting at a table that's no wider than the width of your body and smack against the wall is claustrophobic. My husband ordered a beef entrée which he enjoyed very much and I ordered pad Thai which is always a favorite for me. Unfortunately, mine was so dry that the noodles were all stuck together, so I wouldn't order that again. I know they're planning to open another Indochine Xpress near Brunswick Forest so I'll try that when it opens. Hoping the food will be a better. If not, then I'm done with Indochine. read more

We stopped in on our way home and we were so happy we did. This is a great alternative to the places to eat off of 17 th ext. tired of Smithfield's, Pizza, and the other fast foods. It has a lot of seating which we were surprised because it looks small from the outside. The waiter and owner were very friendly and attentive to our questions. Very pleased! Having moved to Wilmington from Atlanta, our bar was set pretty high and they met it. I'll break my "no chicken" rule for their Thai Larb Gai salad. It's worth it. We typically order one of their Curry dishes or pad Thai noodles with extra veggies/shrimp. The Coconut Cake is worth every calorie!! Delicious, if you like coconut. NIcely decorated, good service, and quiet enough to easily hear table conversation. It is a little odd, waiting for your table outside on the sidewalk by the parking lot.
