Nice home place, great shakes and brunch spot. Across the street from the Castillo.

I wanted so badly to love this place and give it an awesome review. Unfortunately, the food wasn't great and the very uncourteous and downright nasty worker made the entire experience horrific. First things first I was excited because this place had veggie options and that just makes me happy. The woman who took care of us (pixie cut blonde) even "veganized" a good option for me which was super nice. The wait for the food was about ten minutes.. I'm on vacation so I really don't pay attention to time frames when enjoying myself. What was disappointing was getting my meal after quite some time and it looking VERY mediocre. The salad was black around the edges and slimy towards the ends. I'm not a complainer AND I have been a waitress for many years so I simply requested to have some "fresh" lettuce if available. I was told by the same woman who took our order that she would check. She never returned. I left it alone. Honestly I didn't want to be bothered. I didn't get an apology or other options. Whatever. When I received my bill I was being charged $10 for the meal and I was annoyed because the lunch special was around $8 and now I was being over charged for something I actually hated. I asked the woman if I could get a discount for my meal since I didn't touch the salad portion and I was so unhappy with it. She gave me a nasty look and said she'd take $1.50 off then proceeded to the register huffing and puffing about my request saying she didn't have lettuce. Unbelievable. So I say "you should've returned to my table and said that or offered something else that's what I would've done" Did I mention I was a waitress for 10+ years? Anyway. She was not happy. Gave me my money and then wished me a great afternoon. Which I'm pretty sure meant "go to hell" I wouldn't return to this place if it was the absolute last restaurant on the island... and if I were you and you're still reading this review.. save yourself the trouble.. dine ANYWHERE on this street.. there are so many wonderful options with very polite lovely people you can give your money to who won't treat you like trash. Enjoy the island!!!

    Fresh empanadas

I read the first 3 review on this place and decided to try it. Omg, it was the best choice I made that morning. The empanadas were freshly made and delicious. Needless to say me and my partner ended up eating here 3 days in a row. If you love empanadas you def need to come try this place. The people who run this business are friendly and will def come back next time I'm in Puerto Rico

AMBIANCE Parking: Old San Juan rules--come early or be ready to walk. Seating: Multiple seating areas for individuals and small groups but it's also a cafe too so there is seating in the back too. Vibes: Clean, modern café with a mix of locals and tourists. You can tell people come here for the coffee, not just to pass through. It leans more intentional and coffee-focused rather than just aesthetic--which I appreciated. FOOD / DRINKS Coquito Frap (Recommend) When in Puerto Rico, Coquito. Creamy, coconut-forward, and lightly spiced--like a frozen coquito with a coffee twist. Sweet, smooth, and definitely more of a dessert drink than a regular latte. CUSTOMER SERVICE Friendly and efficient. Even with a crowd, things moved quickly. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Solid spot. Great drink options at a reasonable price. They know what they're doing. Whether you're a coffee person or just need a reset, this place delivers. Salute to the Munoz family for sharing their coffee to the world! TIPS * Try their house coffee if you want the full experience--that's what they're known for.

We loved it so much we actually went twice during our trip - and even made a final stop before heading to the airport to go home. On our first visit, Hector (the roaster) happened to be there, which made the experience feel even more special. The staff overall were all so kind and attentive. The coffee is absolutely excellent - velvety smooth, rich, and delicious. I could easily drink more than one cup. I had a latte, and my husband had a macchiato, and both were great. They have a cute little outdoor atrium seating area, but we preferred indoors where all the comfy pillow seating was. Just a note - they don't offer decaf - but for regular coffee drinkers, it's a must-visit. Such a gem in Old San Juan!

I've bought them at the grocery store for my mother over the years when I couldn't find Menier. I was hoping to see some unique desserts at Chocobar Cortés. Let's just say that the chocobar at this location was not what I was expecting. It's like an express version of their original one in Old San Juan. This is located in the lobby of the Condado Palm Hotel. There are 2 entrances. Don't make the same mistake we did by trying to access at street level. That door is locked. You'll need to enter through the hotel lobby. The service is very slow here. There was only one other person there. We ordered a box of 6 chocolates and payed for it. I'm guessing he was making a drink for the other guest because he asked us to wait a few minutes. It ended up being longer so he told his colleague (who just came back from a break) to make up the chocolate box for us. Unfortunately, it took even longer as this other guy was more interested in the 2 young girls who just walked in. The chocolate bonbons were good, but nothing unique. It's the same artisan chocolates that you see everywhere for the same high price. Perhaps this location is better for their specialty cocktails in the evening time. I was looking forward to trying the choco-latte at some point. I doubt there will be a next time.
