The place was quite busy and the line was long. A table opened up, so I grabbed it and waited for my friends to arrive before getting in line to order at the counter. I ended up ordering the half Fuji salad and a half BLT turkey sandwich. The salad was phenomenal, but the sandwich was a bit disappointing. It was fairly dry and seemed to be lacking any mayo or mustard, which would have helped bring more flavor to it. Our daughter gave us a gift card for Cafe Dantorels. We were downtown and decide to stop in. You may order from the counter. The staff were so friendly and bubbly. We decided on 2 Turkey Burger's with fries. At which time they hand you a number. The ambience is so inviting. There's an outdoor patio where you may be seated. We had a great time visiting friends in Sacramento, on the way out of town we were looking for a deli style lunch site, our friends suggested Cafe Dantorels, what a great spot, located within the Curtis Park neighborhood. The Tuna Melt was good sized with provolone, mayo, tuna salad, roasted red peppers and red onion on wheat bread, my wife raved on the taste, on top of this it was served with fries (In-in out like) the dish was very good. I had the Cheeseburger, well done with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and onions on a soft bun, also served with fries (In-in out like), so good. The burger had amazing flavor, it was a large patty fyi and also served with a pickle. There are so many other food options this is the type of spot that you can visit over and over and not grow tired of their food. The setting is unique, built on a corner of a main road, its surrounded by an amazing neighborhood, the interior of the cafe has many table size options, they also have a wraparound outdoor seating area facing the neighborhood or you can experience the covered back patio, it has a large outdoor seating section, it looked like they had ceiling heaters or heaters of some type. The entire location is well decorated, one of the most eye catching were the various planters along the outdoor seating area, not only do they give you some privacy, but they are also very appealing. As far as the service, it was fair, most employees were nice, but they seem very busy and focused on their task's vs the customers, overall a good experience. Cafe Dantorels is a great place for a leisurely meal! A friend and I met there today and sat outside on a perfect Sacramento morning. With lots of greenery and on a cute street, we luxuriously wiled away close to three hours! With free coffee refills, ordering at the counter, and plenty of tables, we could really take our time! Street parking was easy. Order at the counter like Cafe Bernardo. Would I come back? Yes, they make a delicious home made veggie burger, not just a doctored up Impossible or Beyond patty. Home Made Veggie Burger ($22, Grade A) - Chickpeas and white bean patty, chipotle mayo, lettuce, onion, jack cheese, tomatoes, dill pickles, and peas sprouts. The bun is toasted so you get a bonus textural component. The patty may look like a boring Garden Burger, but it is nothing like the frozen patties you find at a grocery store. It's hearty and packs a lot of flavor in every bite. The fries appear house cut as well and were nicely salted. Add a pickle wedge and this is a burger to definitely come back for. Bottom line. Lively, festive environment. Staff is very friendly. They were accommodating enough to reserve a large table for us on the covered patio. They have order-at-the-counter service and then bring your food to your table. My go-to is always the Sacramento Scramble which has chicken apple sausage, mushrooms, spinach, corn, onions, and jack cheese, and it's also served with potatoes and toast on the side! As you walk into the restaurant menus are in a slot along the wall. The menu is very extensive and has breakfast and lunch/dinner options. The menu items have thorough descriptions so it took me a little while to decide what to order. You place your order and pay at the counter. A number will be given to you if eating in, and they will bring the dishes to your table. I got the tuna melt with the French fries but you're able to substitute mixed greens at no cost. The other person in my party chose the Fuji salad. There is a lot of sitting inside and outside on the patio. Today we chose to sit inside. Lots of other patrons were enjoying the shaded seating on the patio. My tuna melt was toasted on the outside so it had a nice crunch. The sandwich has a roasted red bell pepper inside so that was something different for me. The sandwich was good and so were my fries. The Fuji salad was tossed nicely with the vinaigrette dressing. The toppings were generous because there was plenty from the first to the last bite. The salad was a refreshing option. Café Dantorels makes some solid burgers. They do not skimp out with their topping portions, especially their guacamole on the Spanish Farm Burger, which is what I ended up going with. They also have a wide variety of IPA beers on tap. The place is relaxing with sports games playing on the television, making it a great spot to watch a game. The staff is great, super friendly people! The only downside would be the limited parking around this restaurant, but it is something they obviously cannot control. We've been trying to find a brunch spot that serves traditional eggs benedict with Canadian bacon, and we stumbled upon Cafe Dantorels. We walked in and ordered TWO eggs benedict dishes, paid, and sat patiently. One dish came out, and we assumed the next would follow. After nearly 5 minutes, I wondered what was going on because they didn't take our table number away, so I figured they were still working on the other dish. Well, it turns out the woman who took my order only put one in. This ended up being fine because it was not good at all. The flavors were off, the eggs were way undercooked (not just runny yolk like it should be but very runny whites), and the potatoes were so mushy. Service here is subpar. It just seems like a bunch of kids who could not care less about good customer service. They'd rather just walk around, lazily do the bare minimum, and just laugh and joke with each other. This was a cheat day for my besties and I, lol. We were not expecting to have burgers, but also, who doesn't want burgers?! My bestie had been here previously and wanted us to try their Brie burger with candied bacon. I'm skeptical about Brie because of the rind, but my bestie told me to give it a stab, and thus I did! But when a server came to check in with us and discovered she hadn't received her tea yet, the server brought her two cups of tea as an apology for the long wait! Totally unnecessary but very much appreciated! There was also some miscommunication in the kitchen, and more tea kept coming our way too, lol. In the end, we had four cups of tea delivered to us, but the server told us to drink it all if we liked. Very sweet! The ambiance of the restaurant was very casual and seemed like a nice place for family and friends to get together. I had a dinner of a spicy and flavorful kabob with rice (good) and a blood orange cider (good, interesting too, and with wonderful color). The veggies skewer looked very colorful, but in fact had essentially no seasoning and were not the highlight. On the other hand, the salad was quite good. I had a smoked salmon benedict for breakfast with Earl Grey tea -- a good breakfast. The eggs were poached well, the salmon was tasty - though the potatoes were a little crunch/underdone (a minor quibble, but worth mentioning). Obviously popular with the locals, and reasonably priced (probably because they keep their staff costs low by having you order at the counter). I couldn't access the direct site because my phone said it wasn't secure. ‍When I got there, the cashier told me it wasn't on the menu anymore and said they wouldn't make it on request. We had the chicken pesto crepe, crispy chicken club, kids chicken strips, kids cheeseburger, and our other family members also got soup, steak and eggs, Nutella crepe, salad, and drinks. We loved most of the food. The chicken crepe was a bit dry, added some pesto and it was a bit better. The chicken strips tasted exactly like 1990s McDonalds chicken nuggets - but twice the size. The missus and I popped over to Dantorell's today for soups, salad, and a couple cold ones. She ordered the squash soup, I went for the chicken gumbo, and we split a Fuji salad. I was hungry, like "I could eat the table" hungry, so I ordered a baguette and an extra. First bite? Stale. I politely asked for a fresh one (or focaccia if they were out), assuming "fresh" was a universal bread-truth. ...It was not. Round two: stale again. At that point, I felt like I was in a carb-based prank show. And the chicken in the gumbo? Think "cotton ball that went to the desert." Sad times. For context, we decided to give the place another shot today after a hit-and-miss history, hoping this visit would remind us why we liked it in the first place. Instead, it just... landed flat. Their welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, and incredible food are what they are known for. I love meeting my family here for brunch! As you enter, you self order at the front register and are given a number, you seat yourself and they deliver your food fresh to your table. This occasion I ordered the banana bread French toast. With mascarpone cheese, banana, chopped bacon and topped with strawberry sauce and roasted honey almonds. I also ordered 2 sides of bacon and a small freshly squeezed OJ. This combo was perfect and large portions, I ended up taking half home. The freshness of produce and the quality ingredients keep the crowds coming back again and again. They have cocktails and beer for those that want to enjoy them with their food. Service is always pretty quick, even when they are busy. Seating is first come first serve after you order which can be a bit difficult during busy hours but I haven't really had any issues when I have come here. Chill, welcoming, a little upscale but still very comfortable. It has that local, community feel that makes you want to come back. I have been coming here for about a year now, and it has been consistently good, especially compared to places like Crepeville. The quality is just a step up across the board. For me, the La La Land crepe is the move. I pretty much get it every time. It is flavorful, well balanced, and just hits. They do a great job with their crepes in general, and you can tell there is more care put into the food. The coffee drinks are also excellent. Whether you are getting a latte or something more specialty, they know what they are doing. It pairs really well with the whole brunch experience. Another big plus is that they carry pastries and cake slices from Freeport Bakery, which is a huge win. Those desserts are legit, and it is nice being able to grab them in the same spot. Menu-wise, there is a good variety. Crepes, breakfast options, coffee, pastries, a little bit of everything. It is the kind of place where you can come back multiple times and not get bored. The only reason it is not a full 5 is that while it is consistently good, it is not necessarily mind blowing. But it does not need to be. The food doesn't do much wrong but also doesn't leave a lasting impression. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming enough, with plenty of seating. I ordered a regular egg breakfast which included 2eggs+potato and toast...but does not include Bacon? It's disappointing that a breakfast order doesn't include the bacon...I had to order a side of bacon, which I never have had to do in any other breakfast restaurant. The menu has a decent variety, with all the standard brunch staples--pancakes, omelets--but nothing really stands out. The sourdough toast was okay, though a bit hard. There is a very small, private parking lot in the back that could fit 6-7 cars at most. Otherwise, you'll have to do street parking which most around is 90 minutes only from Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm. I found some street close street parking that was 2 hours from 8am-6pm. The first impression as you walk up is it's very pretty as it's decorated with lots of plants. There is so much shaded outdoor seating along the sidewalk and a large outdoor patio. The weather was still hot so there were water misters to keep it cool on the sidewalk seating. For the patio, there are ceiling fans. There is so much seating indoors from booths to cushioned chairs, all very comfortable. The music is moderately loud. It's cool and conditioned inside I even put on a jacket. The ambiance was nice and casual to bring friends, families, or dogs and hang out or even study for a long while. Note that none of the seating seemed to have outlets. As you enter, there's a menu at the door and when you're ready to order, you pay at the counter. Then, you grab a number and can sit anywhere in the restaurant. The service was very nice, conversational, and provided my food in a timely manner. There is a self-serve water station. Besides providing your drinks/food and picking up your dirty dishes at the end of the meal, no one really checks in as it seems more of a self-service style. The tables are kept clean. I sat by one of the many tables next to the windows and there were some flies on the windows but they didn't bother my food. I don't blame the establishment, it's hard to control for bugs when there's a lot of plants and there are multiple large doors constantly being opened. For drinks I ordered an iced Matcha Latte with soy milk. Per the sign at the counter it looks like partnered with Temple Coffee to make the drinks. Personally, it does not taste made with authentic matcha powder as it is very sweet but I still loved it. For food I ordered the Brie & Candied Bacon Burger (comes with regular fries) that was a perfect mix of sweet and savory. It was delicious and you can choose how cooked the patty you want. I also ordered the Curtis Park Fries which were not too spicy and deliciously saucy. I think the food was delicious and will definitely return to try other items such as the crepes.
