Delicious! Stumbled upon this place as it's right by the courthouse. Busy place for lunch but it definitely packed a punch of flavor! I ordered the chicken kabob plate and it came with rice and a salad. Order at the counter and then find a seat. Staff were super friendly. Waited about 20 mins for food but I imagine I stumbled upon their lunch rush. I took a bit into the chicken and it was so soft and tender it was delicious. He advised that it pairs well with my entree and will be refreshing. Ok I was a skeptic, but it wasn't based on his delivery. I'm just a skeptic at heart. But he was right. The hot mint tea was refreshing! Very minty but not artificially minty tasting, genuine flavors. It was served in a small colorful glass tea cup. He poured the first glass with a quick but steady up n down motion. Not a drop splashed. The tea definitely paired well with the stew. The meat was fork tender. Packed with flavor. Sweet n savory. It came with a substantial serving side of rice and side of stewed vegetables in a type of aïoli form, each served on its own plate. Even the rice had flavor. Everything was delicious! We came in around noon on a Saturday for a quick breakfast. I have been wanted to try this place and just from walking in I knew it was going to be good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have made this tiny restaurant into a cozy spot with lots of Moroccan decorations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the atlas sunrise and lentil soup with their Moroccan bread. I worked in downtown Sac, this was my closest lunch spot. I had to have the Marrakech Chicken sandwich at least once a week in house or to go. The salads are good too. They accommodate order tweaking. Get there before 11:30 AM. Several times I ordered sandwiches to go and brought home dinner for the evening. They would separated all the ingredients to keep the bread fresh so I could reassemble at home later. Addicting flavors in all their dishes. With initial high hopes, must be forthright that I wasn't too impressed with this spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While the service was friendly, the location is right next to the County Jail, there was a lot of odd traffic, and even reading the menu (smallest font in the world on the display screens) was difficult.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That last piece was such unnecessary inconvenience. In addition to these points, the food was just okay. I had the Baba's Veggie Omelette, which had no cheese at all in it - just sprinkled Parmesan on top. Very, very lacking in flavor as well. Also had the Moroccan Dessir Salad, which is noted as a favorite, but it was mid at best. Added chicken helped the salad just a bit as that alone did taste good, but that costed nearly an extra $5. Further, the salad hardly had dressing, so it didn't quite come together as well as it could've. I wish I had better to say here, but honesty is policy, and this cafe just didn't hit the mark. I had never heard of it before, which honestly shocked me, because I'm Moroccan, and I've been craving an authentic taste of home for a very long time. I live about two hours away, so before making the drive, I decided to call and confirm what I was seeing on their menu. I noticed they offered multiple types of tagine and msemen, anyone familiar with Moroccan food knows these dishes take hours of dedication and hard work to prepare, so I was genuinely surprised to see them on a restaurant menu. They confirmed everything was available, and I decided to head out. While driving, I ran into traffic. Around 2:15 pm, I checked their page again and realized they closed at 3:00 pm, and my ETA wasn't until around 2:45 pm. I called back and explained that I was coming from far away and had been craving Moroccan food for so long. Without hesitation, they told me it was no problem to still welcome us in, and kindly asked if we could order over the phone so they could start cooking ahead of time. I ordered the chicken tagine, lamb tagine, msemen, bastilla, fries, and Moroccan tea, and they said no problem at all. When we arrived, it took a few minutes to find parking, but once that was sorted out, they served our food within just a couple of minutes. We came in close to closing time, yet they were so kind and welcoming, and that alone already meant a lot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The moment I walked in, I was so happy. The restaurant is spotlessly clean, and the smell when you walk in is incredible.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is absolutely beautiful, filled with Moroccan décor that feels warm, comforting, and heartwarming. That almost never happens, and it made the experience even more enjoyable. Then came the food, and it completely exceeded expectations. The tagines tasted authentic and full of deep, rich flavor. The bread was fresh, warm, and perfect. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The bastilla deserves a special mention it was so, so good. In terms of fine Moroccan dining, I have never experienced anything like this. While we were eating, we noticed that an older couple had their sleeves rolled up, doing everything, cooking, serving, cleaning, with the help of a younger gentleman. They were all incredibly kind, welcoming, and hardworking. They stayed open for us for an extra 30 minutes or so and never once made us feel rushed. The food, the atmosphere, and the hospitality were all top-notch. This spot is at 7th and H and was bigger than I thought it would be. They have a bunch of tables inside and it was nice and cool compared to the heat outside. I was greeted right away and offered ice cold water and was able to place my order at the counter. I ended up ordering the strawberry lemonade ($4.75), Marrakech Chicken Sandwich ($10.95), and the crispy harissa chickpea Caesar salad ($10.95). My order was ready quickly and I took it to go. At home I unpacked everything. The lemonade was refreshing and had a lot of flavor. The sandwich came with fries and I would highly recommend going halfsies with the sandwich and salad. Both were a great portion and I ended up having half a sandwich and some salad. I was really excited to try this place. My coworkers and I tripped in for a quick lunch. My sister and I like to try new cuisines so after an event in midtown/downtown we went here for late lunch. The staff/owner was on his own in front of house but is very efficient. He gave us the menu and told us we can sit anywhere we want and when we're ready to order just go to the ordering area and pay. We got the Moroccan mint tea, Atlas Sunrise, Almond Cake, and Chicken Tagine. The Chicken Tagine is sixth in my chicken series. He served us the mint tea which was the perfect temperature and was sweet. We didn't wait long for our food. The Atlas Sunrise is eggs cooked in tomato sauce and spices served with Moroccan bread. They cook their eggs through and would love it if the yolks were runny, just a preference. The bread was good and complements the dish. They serve breakfast all day which makes sense with their limited menu. The Chicken Tagine was so good. The chicken is fall off the bone (leg and thigh part) and the gravy is delicious with all its spices. The dish is not spicy. My sister mentioned for her the breast part was on the dry side. We finished our meal with the delicious almond cake drizzled with honey. It's so good we brought another one home. All in all a great experience. I found what I wanted and went to the register. Placed my order for dine in and was given a number. Found a table and sat down. No water or utensils were offered. I sat there watching as other patrons came and gone with little attention to me. After waiting about 20 mins I was going to get up and go ask for a refund so I can leave. The owner brought out my food. A simple plate of a few pieces of chicken kabob with rice and a side salad. ($18.70) No water was offer and still no utensils were provided. Owner quickly left my plate on the table and snatched his number and left. After a few more minutes I had to waiver him down to ask for a cup of ice water and some utensil to eat my food. I was really hoping to enjoyed my food as now I have been in the restaurant for over 35 mins. Took my food pic for social medias and ate my food.
