Thanks for starting my 2016 horribly! My latte was good but took 12 minutes to get. As well for a plate of eggs and another of an omelette that took 35 minutes before we had to say something. They brought our food (the omelette and the side pancake I ordered) except my main order eggs, potatoes with sausage. I'm eating through the pancake and it was undercooked! We were originally going to go to another restaurant in old mesilla but it was closed. Driving around we saw this was open and we decided to try it out and I'm so glad we did! Finding this gem by accident lead to a scrumptious breakfast spent with my mom and sister. I ordered the breakfast burrito and added avocado to it. The size of the burrito was big enough to get me full which usually takes a lot. Everything tasted so fresh and I really enjoyed my meal. The coffee was fresh and smooth. Service was great as it is owned by a woman who also took our order and was friendly and welcoming! There weren't a ton of people when we first got there but around 10 everyone started getting hungry and had the same idea we did. Will definitely be coming back for breakfast. read more

If you're like me and usually work 9-5, then Cafe de Mesilla is one of those places you drive by wishing they were open later. From the outside, it's a cute, quaint little house with plenty of art. Inside, more art, and little knickknacks all over. Happy to have an unexpected morning off, I finally went inside and ordered a veggie omelet, no cheese (and it came out right the first time! That never happens) and sat down at a pleasantly mismatched chair. For $9, your breakfast includes your main dish, toast, and potatoes. Excellent spot for breakfast, lunch, and all your coffee shop desires. They just opened here in April 2014. Unlike many places in town they are open on Sundays! Yeah! (Hours are daily 7am-5pm at the time of this review.) I enjoyed Huevos Rancheros and a refreshing iced soy chai latte while my husband devoured delicious pancakes with--get this--REAL maple syrup. The menu is varied and offers several things for vegetarians. The ambiance is perfect and you can even buy local art and other gifts. I sincerely hope they are here to stay! read more

The prices are low, but that is the only thing to recommend this place. Maybe the kitchen staff was having an off day. The gift shop seems more kitsch than local. Quite the find in Mesilla. Terrific food and the servers/owners/managers provided very friendly service. We were a party of six and although the food definitely took some time to get out to us, everyone got their food at same time and everyone enjoyed their food. Very quaint and unique layout inside the restaurant. They had art for sale (prolly a little overpriced but definitely nice to look at!) all throughout the restaurant. My friend was complaining of being hungry (as we waited for rest of party to show up) and our waiter asked us if we would like some soup while we waited. I tried the tortilla soup and my friend got a tomato soup. The tortilla soup was THICK with chicken and sour cream. Although the cup was too small for the amount of food they put in the cup (every time I tried to get some out it sloshed quite a bit onto the plate beneath) the soup itself was very very good. My friend really enjoyed her soup as well. For breakfast the waiter recommended the huevos rancheros which one of my friends got. He really liked it. Another friend got their enchiladas and he loved his as well. The waiter recommended the pulled pork for lunch so I got that. I thought the meat was very flavorful and the bun very nicely toasted. But I def should have asked for a side of bbq sauce cause the meat was pretty dry. Side of potato salad was very tasty. Meal also came with beans, which the cook forgot at first, but the waiter quickly remedied. One of my other friend got French toast which looked absolutely huge. The last member of our group got the reuben. It looked a little plain to me and she didn't say anything good or bad about it so I'm guessing it was so so. Café de Mesilla was definitely an enjoyable experience and I would go back if I was in there area! Good initial place to eat before hitting up some vinyards! read more

Awesome local restaurant with an unexpected wide variety of scratch-made food. Start off with a cup of excellent espresso or mason jar of orange juice, then dig in. The Monti Cristo was stuffed with tender lightly smoked ham and turkey, tangy Swiss cheese and green chili's. The Huevos Rancheros was hotly spiced with green and red sauce over a perfectly cooked pair of eggs. Served with tasty beans and an oversized thin and very tender tortilla. This place is one mile off the I10 Hwy and so worth the detour. Oh and it's cheap. All of that for $24.00. There's lot of art and gifts to look at too. read more

ATTRACTIVE LITTLE CAFE The Cafe de Mesilla is located just a block or so away from the Mesilla Plaza where the El Comedor used to be. This is essentially a breakfast and lunch place. The building is a classic looking old adobe pueblo-style one. Inside it is colorful with a Southwestern rustic sort of look. The furniture is eclectic and paintings adorn the walls (some for sale by local artists). Outside they offer patio dining. It is all quite comfortable and attractive. I found the air conditioning working fine on a very hot day. Inside the front door there is a counter where you order your food and drinks. A waitress will bring the food to your table. The female owner seems to be omnipresent and often waits tables herself. While others have cast negative remarks her way, I have always found her friendly and personable. Generally, the overall service is ok for a casual place. They offer breakfast burritos, quesadillas, ham and turkey sandwiches, wraps, omelets, hot cakes, French toast, paninis, blts, Reuben sandwiches and salads. I have tried their huevos rancheros which came with two fried eggs, a flour tortilla, whole beans and country potatoes. The presentation was somewhat novel. The red chile sauce served over the top was really bitter and this ruined the meal for me. I did have a good apple strudel with the meal. More recently I ordered their Southwest Chicken Panini with a side of potato salad. The potato salad was a little stiff and not very creamy. Some skins were left on the potatoes. I needed to add a little salt and pepper to give it some zip. Overall, the potato salad was ok but nothing to write home about. The panini came on a dark crusted bread. Inside were chunks of breast meat....but not much....guacamole, provolone cheese, a tiny bit of green chile, some kernals of corn, and some very small black beans. I don't think the beans did anything for the sandwich. Overall, the sandwich was pretty good and I would consider ordering it again. But, it was not an outstanding sandwich by any means. It could have used more chile and seasoning. What to expect if you go: A clean, bright, colorful and comfortable little spot for casual dining, a breakfast and lite lunch menu, reasonable prices, casual service, and food that is fairly good at best and pedestrian at worst. The menu probably appeals more to women than men. Not really a "man's" kind of place. Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-A-HALF to THREE-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS......meaning well above average. read more

This place is a treat. Typical and nicely executed places to sot with New Mexican decor, nice parking lot and coffee house feel. We had their breakfast and coffees (americano) that were perfect. If you don't want the touristy-ness of downtown Mesilla this is the place to enjoy a cozy breakfast with the family. read more

I was referred to go eat at this place for breakfast and the vibe of the owner was not good at all and I felt the personality change was because of the questions that I've asked regarding her menu when I received the breakfast that I ordered it wasn't what I expected and it was number 7 the Omelette it was way over cooked and dry ...today is June 22nd 10 in the morning we had a party of three and interesting to say I was at the Mesilla Plaza talking to other people regarding this establishment they told me if you're not a regular and she feel that you're an outsider not from New Mexico which I'm from California if she doesn't like you at the beginning she treats people this way that's pretty sad that's not how to run the business especially if you're the owner read more

Neighborhood Coffee and Cafe off I-10 in a converted home. Art, ceramics, and knick-knacks on the walls, all for sale. Good sandwiches, a few salads, and a few specialties, and all-day breakfasts. Decided to try this little cafe for the first time. Turned out to be the worst experience of every and all my dinning experiences. The female owner was extremely unwelcoming and borderline prejudiced but very friendly and welcoming to every customer of light skinned color. Food was "so so" nothing to get excited about. Very charming cafe with tasty dishes made with fresh ingredients. Ventured off I-10 as we passed through Las Cruces on our way back to Texas just to grab a a bite here. We ate our lunch on the patio with our canine companion and the service was quick (though it should be noted we arrived around 2:30pm -they close at 4- and were 1 table of 2 that were occupied).
