Perfect buttery, flaky pastry, heavenly decadent truffles and quick, accurate service was the order of the day from Jean-Jacques and his staff. I cannot wait to come back and enjoy the spacious patio this spring or summer for a scoop of gelato. Stop into one of the oldest establishments near the Plaza in SFE. Cute coffee, pastry and lunch spot on the Artistes (Art Galleries) street. We popped in here and had a very nice freshly prepared sandwich for lunch. The sourdough bread was freshly baked and very tasty. Freshly brewed ice tea was great. Was tempted by the lineup of French Wines by the glass, but it was too early in the day. Service depends on how many customers. There is only one Frenchman behind the counter and he works hard and fast to get each order out, but sometimes the crowds make the wait a bit longer. It is worth the wait. Freshly baked cookies were tasty as well. Inside the seating space is small but feels spacious, with a few tables to sit. Glad I tried this place as there are many things to remind me of Paris, where the owner is from. read more

Came after visiting the museum across the street for a quick cuppa tea late afternoon. 4:30 PM when we walked in. Although the posted hours say they're open until five they literally kicked us out at 10 till. The pastry sucked. The service was nonexistent, and since they were piling all the chairs and tables inside, as we arrived, one could say the ambience was also nonexistent. My 1 year old nephew made a little noise as he was waving to the people next to us (as babies often do) and we were approached by the waiter and asked "is your baby usually loud?" And then the waiter told us that if the baby is loud we should move and sit outside. It was not a warm day, it was very windy and not weather fit for a baby. There was also only one other table there and they were waving back at my nephew and did not complain. We felt very unwelcome. We immediately left and went somewhere else. Best described as just ok. I had the daily quiche which was ham and cheese with hatch chile. Not only did It take a long time (only two people there) but there was no chile flavor at all in my quiche. None. And the ham tasted old and dry. The side salad was good. Sadly, after the owner of the cafe chose the side of a waiter because he kept using ma'am on me... And told me that life is too short to be upset about mis-gendering.... That patronizing behavior is something I can't enjoy even if the food is good and life is short. In that case I much rather go to Tres Colores (where my mural is still up and it's right next to this cafe I'll never visit), Agapao, La Mama or Iconik , or any other business that takes time to appreciate that it's 2024 and a trans and non-binary paying customer should be as respected and not told to be quiet. I left without demanding the return money since they clearly didn't care if they lose a paying local customer. If you are non-binary trans and local, you probably know how hard it is to be respected. Unless you can have a good conversation with the owner and help him become more respectful of trans and nonbinary crowd - expect the disrespect. The staff and the owner also were using wrong pronouns on me the whole time. Another excuse was that everyone is foreign. I'm from Siberia, this is my 3d language and the concept of respecting trans and non-binary people goes beyond language. LGBTQi+ people exist everywhere. Deeply disappointed, awful read more

A lovely cafe near the plaza in downtown town Santa Fe. The owner is very nice with a wonderful sense of humor and the workers always are helpful. The architectural design is very nice and the plants out front and the new patio is a great new addition. Coffees of course are amazing and the iced chais are exquisite. Very tasty. The chiles weren't hot at all but I may be a partial judge on that front. Perfect for a beautiful cool August day. Stopped in during the Pride parade. They need to teach the barista what coffee is however it was prepared very quickly. The food takes forever (which is only sandwiches and salads you could make at home) and the owner employs young individuals with no sense of service or quality food preparation. Some old bald guy was creeping in the background while I was there which made my visit quite uncomfortable (turns out he works there! Lol) And the floors were completely dirty which made them slippery. The only saving grace is a public restroom with no purchase required. I would love if this establishment took their business seriously but until then I won't be back. Pay a visit and see what I missed. P.S. Our guidebook had recommended a lovely stroll up Canyon Road to see the various galleries and Cristo Rey church at the end, so when we set off, we had no idea how hungry we'd end up upon our return. Luckily, Cafe des Artistes is at the western end of the street, so on our way back we stumbled in on a very cold Monday, sat inside, and ordered our food. Either I was very hungry or their food was very good, but one way or another I forgot about how cold it was outside when I took my first bite of my veggie sandwich with fresh green chili peppers and avocados. Pure heaven! It was just the right degree of spicy, perfect size, and very filling. I admit, I was a bit disappointed that the sandwich didn't come with any sides. Maybe I'm just spoiled, but in my opinion, a sandwich should always be served with at least a pickle, some chips, a salad, or some fruit on the side. Regardless, the sandwich hit the spot after our trek. The cafe itself is very beautiful, with some indoor seating, plenty of outdoor seating. It's appropriately titled given its location on Canyon Road, famous for the art galleries, and the map of wine regions in France was very fun to look at.
