A real disappointment. We had an omelette, scone and pecan pancakes with coffee ($36). Both the scone and pancakes were extremely dense and dry. The pecan pancakes were full of pecan slices, but their heavy texture made it had to finish the stack. The two-egg omelette was sadly overcooked. This place was recommended to me by a local friend, and they suggested that I get the breakfast burrito (x-mas style) and blue corn pancakes. I did peep the reviews before going but I didn't let a couple of disappointed folks sway me from seeing for myself. I came in on a Sunday morning (9-ish), and the place was pretty chill--just a handful of tables and 3 people in front of me. The staff was really friendly and while I waited to order at the counter, I picked up on their Spanish. So if you're bilingual, or maybe not as fluent in English, you've got options! Once I had ordered, I picked a spot to post up, but it didn't take too long for my food to come out. I definitely over-ordered, but it was nice to have leftovers for the next day. Both the burrito and pancakes were fresh and delicious. It is up to you to bus your table and if you need a box, just ask and you'll get one. There isn't much to say about this after thought of the Original Baking Company. First, the price definitely does not match the quality of the food. Secondly, when you order the breakfast croissant sandwich and get a very over cooked; flat with no ingredients omelet between a dry croissant..so disappointed. Not worth the money. read more

I used to come here when it was the Santa Fe baking co- and that I would give 5 stars alone in their organic Mexican coffee that was soooo good. While a lot of the business has remained close enough, I don't love the food or coffee quite as much. The crowd is great and filled with locals and visitors alike, probably taking up a much needed brunch spot that Tecolote used to provide. I went for the vegan breakfast bowl today and the last time I was here- and while I remember it being mostly the same , I don't remember all these potatoes. The New Baking Company is located on the same spot as the old one. It's clean and streamlined, and the food came out fast. Good service, but the food wasn't particularly impressive. I had the carne adovada breakfast plate. The carne was decent, though its taste was strongly reminiscent of Taco Bell. I requested extra lettuce and tomato garnish, which worked well. The potatoes were kinda meh, and the chile was disappointing. My girlfriend had the "ranchero bowl," or something to that effect. Tasted good, but she thought it was way too wet. She said there was too much of the fluid that the black beans were cooked in. The atmosphere is nice, even though the parking situation is still a mess. Im a long time fan of the nice people who work there and the breakfast burritos, which may be the best in town. Good vegetarian options and love blue corn pancakes. However the $3-4 a plate price increases lately bring the value and quality of a visit into question. Also the parking situation is really dumb. I stopped into The New Baking Company for a quick lunch during my workday. There was plenty of seating inside, and it looks like in warmer months there is outdoor seating as well. You place you're order at a counter at the back so you have to walk past a case of delicious looking baked goods to get there. I ordered my food and was given a number, and took a seat at a table while I waited for my to go order. The food came out pretty quickly, and the server brought it to me. I ordered a coffee and the chicken salad wrap, and unfortunately I was pretty underwhelmed by what I got. I'll start by admitting I'm a coffee snob, but I wasn't expecting anything fancy from here. I filled my cup with the morning brew, a light roast coffee, and it was bitter and burnt tasting. I was really disappointed considering so many other reviews mention the great coffee! My chicken salad wrap was not at all what I expected. It was more of a green salad with grilled chicken in a tortilla, rather than chicken salad in a wrap. And while a green salad with chicken in a tortilla could've been fine, it was drowned in chipotle mayo. It felt like every bite I had was more mayo than anything else. The best part of my meal was the fries. They were shoe string style with a really yummy seasoning. Not sure I'll be back for food or coffee, but maybe someday I'll stop in for a pastry. read more

I have been coming here for years when I'm in town. The place is simple and predictable, but I mean it in a good way. If you like simple places with charm and warmth-and, which also serve super good food, this is the place for you. The entire place is decorated in art work from local artists, which I think really sets the mood to make it feel a little more rustic and hip, giving it an overall authentic vibe. The food is always fresh and hot. Their self-serve coffee is always good. I'm mostly vegetarian and a healthy eater and this place has plenty of options (for me, anyways). If you prefer something more hearty, this place has plenty of that too. This is definitely my favorite place in all of Santa Fe. I prefer it to anything else! read more

This was my first visit to The New Baking Company. I remember eating here when it was called The Baking Company. The décor is much as it was before. There's outside seating. I watched a couple guys playing chess, while they nibbled on their lunch. I had the Santa Fe Burger with a side salad. Boy, was that BIG! They offered an avocado ranch salad dressing, which I chose, because hey, I've never had that before. :) It was delicious. In fact, I couldn't finish it all. Doing some business on Cordova Road in Santa Fe. Stopped into this place for a quick lunch. Strange business model. You stand in line to order at the cash register where you have your first opportunity to view the menu while other customers wait impatiently behind while I try to read the small print. For drinks, they give you a glass and point you to a self-serve fountain. When I got my drink, I found that the glass had a hole in the bottom. It leaked all the way to my table. When my burrito arrived it was laying lonely on the plate. Every other burrito I have ever ordered in Santa Fe was surrounded by beans, potatoes and salad. When I finished and stood up to leave, a man at the next table informed me that I was supposed to bus my dirty dishes. I presume he is a regular customer. I put a few bucks in a tip jar when I paid my bill (BEFORE I found my table and got my food). For the life of me, I have no idea what they did to earn it. read more

It's been my quest, since moving to Santa Fe this past September (from 22-yrs in Albuquerque) to try all frito pies in town in search of the best! The new baking company has a great frito pie, it's fresh gigantic and $8.50 (as of Oct.27-2017) the Chile con carne is what I always choose in a frito pie rather than green so I can't speak to the heat of the latter. I have to agree with another poster who expressed skepticism regarding Yelp reviews in Santa Fe. This place had a lot of good reviews and we're not entirely sure why. We do appreciate many veggie options there. We had the breakfast burrito and the vegan bowl - both consisted primarily of potatoes. While I love good potatoes as much as anyone, when it's the majority it feels a bit like cheating. It would be nice to fill the vegan bowl with another grain or more veggies rather than mostly potatoes. We also had the cinnamon roll which was okay but a little dry, and the croissant which had good texture but was really plain. I agree with others that the price point is better than other breakfast places in Santa Fe, and the customer service was great, but personally it wouldn't be worth returning. read more

The newly renovated baking company seems to have kept some of the good stuff, but also some of the bad stuff (i.e. that old guy who is always singing way too loudly--he's not very good and the volume on his mic should be lowered). This was our last meal in Santa Fe before hitting the road, and we were treated to brunch by a dear mentor. We shared the Greek omelet and the huevos rancheros and had a couple coffees. The coffee was excellent and we loved the huevos, which had a nice kick from the green chile. The omelet was a bit of a disappointment because it didn't feel particularly cheesy and all the vegetable components didn't have much flavor. Meh. Something to understand about Santa Fe is that it is filled with old people. Lots of old people. Think retirement home in a city. Anyway, older folks tastebuds don't work very well and a lot of said old people are from places that are not known for spicy food (this place was filled with older Caucasian people). I ordered the Cowboy bowl with red and green chile and chorizo. You'd think it would have some bite. It didn't. At all. Nothing. My wife also ordered a New Mexican dish. The New Baking Company is known for their NM food. Let me put it this way, if you think milk is spicy then this is probably the place for you. The muffin we ordered was good but not great. My husband and I had breakfast here this morning, everything was delicious. I ordered the BLT it was served with scrambled eggs and avocado. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the tomato was red and fresh. My husband had the cowboy bowl it was equally as good. We took a large cheese danish to go.
