Typically the service at this location is absolutely phenomenal. Today was no different for my daughter and I. My biggest concern was that someone came in with a dog and felt it was OK for their dog to put his paws up on the table. We are a huge animal family and have a number of pets. I don't however, feel it is sanitary to have dogs in a restaurant where I am eating. Our coffee and food was fantastic today. I live in Camarillo so I frequent this cafe a lot. My usual is an iced butterfly matcha and their fruit and yogurt bowl. It always comes in a bag (to go) with a container of yogurt, container of fruit, container of granola, a package of honey along with napkins and utensils. Last Saturday was completely different. I ordered my usual yogurt but chose an iced latte instead. While waiting, the cook gave me a bowl and utensils and said "For Erica" and walked away. I thought that was weird because I normally pick it up in a to-go bag but I didn't give it any thought. Got home and was disappointed with what they served me. There was hardly anything in it...At almost $15 with tax and tip I was really upset they thought this was satisfactory. I usually come every Saturday after my farmers market trip but this incident makes me want to go pick up my coffee and breakfast at another shop up the street. read more

Cafe Ficelle is located in Old Town Camarillo and offers great French-based breakfast/brunch meals, bread, pastries, desserts, coffee, and tea. For breakfast and brunch they have both sweet and savory meals. I particularly love their sweet crepes and their savory Croque-Madame. The staff is also very friendly and attentive. Although they usually run out they sell day-old grab bags of French bread for just $5. My only complaint is that I wish they didn't close at 2:00 and were open later like their Ventura store. However, having lived a long time in Camarillo I totally understand why. So, I highly recommend Cafe Ficelle, which is now my favorite place in Camarillo for breakfast and brunch. read more

Whilst visiting Camarillo, I was searching Yelp far and wide for a remote work-friendly coffeeshop in order to have a brief Zoom meeting. Thanks to Ventura County's own Community Ambassador, Jara S., she led me to Cafe Ficelle. It is hidden along the up-and-coming Old Town Camarillo Main Street Business District as the second location (the original is in Ventura city proper). I ended up ordering from their Summer Drinks the least "summery" drink: A S'Mores Latte. To me, it is more fall or winter special, yet I suppose you can go camping on the West Coast almost all year round and make S'mores over a fire. Of course I requested it with oat milk and an extra shot is espresso. The latte came out Instaworthy with a perfectly charred marshmallow on a skewer and an inviting foam. From the first sip, I was sold--not overly sweet or hot, yet nicely balanced and comforting. This happened to be one of the few rainy mornings California had seen this year so it was even more appropriate. I had also ordered a circular loaf of sourdough bread which I took home for later. That same evening we sliced and enjoyed it with an Italian pasta dinner. The bread was superb given it's crispy yet not jaw breaking crust and soft, doughy center. It was the happy start and ending to our dinner topped with some salted butter or sopped up marinara sauce. Once my meeting was over and I was ready to leave, every seat in the house was filled. Even the rain clouds had moved on so I knew it was time to make the drive home. The staff opened up the L-shaped outdoor patio which was absolutely necessary given the cafe's popularity. Meeting friends for brunch and needed outdoor seating. Cafe Ficelle came highly recommended so we gave it a try. You order at the counter and they bring your meal to your table. I went with the English Muffin Breakfast sandwich ($15). My wife chose the Croissant Sandwich ($14.50). The English muffin is not your Thomas' English muffin. These are clearly made in house.They are super thick and look nothing like a store bought English muffin that I have seen before. The sandwich has a slice of ham, Brie, and what looks like a poached egg (they call it a "boasted egg"). Delish! However, my wife's sandwich was even better. It has the boasted egg with goat cheese, bell pepper, and avocado. The croissant was super flakey and delish. Each sandwich came with a small side of seasonal fruit. While the outdoor seating is in front of the restaurant on Ventura Blvd, there is head in parking that separates the eating area from the street so street noise and smells were not an issue. The only minor gripe is that the bathroom is outside of the restaurant. Not a big issue (and it was very clean). We will definitely return to try some of the interesting items on the menu. read more

First time at Cafe Ficelle Camarillo- smaller than OG store in Ventura but still had the neighborhood French cafe vibe inside and lots of tables outside. I was dining solo and feeling a decadent pain au chocolate and perfectly crafted coffee to savor at the inside window table with French Bistro tunes for ambiance. The pastry section was almost nonexistent at 11:00 so I pivoted and ordered the grilled cheese sandwich to go with my coffee. I saw the sandwich being constructed for another diner and the toasted sourdough, Gruyère and pile of carmelized onions sold me. The woman at the counter taking orders was lovely and suggested the honey lavender latte which was a great option - not too sweet with a botanic hint. I had a fabulous experience and the grilled cheese had an heirloom tomato which reminded me of the sandwiches my British friend would serve. The bread stayed crisp and the tomato, cheese and onion were a perfect combination of flavor- subtle but excellent. The salad was fresh and delightful as a side - the acid in the dressing cut the fat from the cheese and butter. The only part of the experience that annoyed me was the woman serving the coffees loudly yelling out the names of the orders in such a small space. She had a very loud voice and it created a stressful vibe instead of a lux experience. When she went into the back room, it was peaceful again. So 4 years after my bad experience I decide to give this place another shot. I stop by and the inside still isn't well ventilated, I came out smelling like I had been burning breakfast after just a minute inside. I get to the cashier and ask for a mocha in a ceramic mug as I was having it there. I was informed they now only have paper cups. I cancel the order and walk out as the song "This is the End" by the doors plays. A cafe that doesn't have ceramic cups for coffee is not a proper cafe but rather a quick stop. I really wanted to like this place as so many others do, but after the first bad experience, the lack of decent ventilation, and now no way to properly enjoy a latte, I won't be going back. Was looking forward to this spot but unfortunately missed the mark by a landslide. I got the french dip sandwich and french onion soup and both had their own issues. The french dip came out and it genuinely was the worst smelling dish I've ever been served. It smelt rancid and I'm surprised the staff were able to serve it themselves. The flavor was just as bad and the tri-tip bit was extremely slimy and plain gross to eat. I absolutely regret putting it in my mouth. The french onion soup had a slab of cheese that was not melting and it just made the consistency unpleasant, and the flavor was off as well. The sourdough that was served on the side was decent but that was the only edible part of the meal. Will not stop by this place again which is a shame as the place itself and staff were nice. I definitely should've said something but opted not too as I wasn't sure if they would've given my money back, regardless don't order what I ordered. read more

Warning! Horrible manager "Dana" who is rude and inappropriate, and not only are they all poorly trained, but the health department cited them on many violations, some are repeated (apparently they dont learn from their prior similar citations). I suggest you avoid this and any of their locations because the *owners* clearly dont care about their customers . Owners took days to respond to me and I was told at the time that the owners said I had to leave or the police would be called. Because they served me wrong food with dirty silverware and I sent it back. Then Dana cussed me out and flipped me off. Im not the bad guy- when they dont use standard safety and food handling precautions repeatedly. As proven on the health dept report. Guess what? The sheriff visited THEM today with a cease and desist for the nasty young woman Dana who presents herself as a manager and who contacted me directly with harassment. You were all wrong and it was witnessed. There is no other place in Camarillo that's got pastry like this. The family traveled to Europe, loved the French pastry experience and came back here and decided to create two locations one in Ventura, and one in Camarillo. I prefer the Ventura one simply because it has a larger selection and it's a bigger place. But the taste is still the same. If you have not tried their pastry you owe it to yourself. So many spectacular pastry and breakfast sandwich options: where to start? Had their own version of an English muffin frosted with corn nuts...yup and it was delicious! I had it toasted wand filled with an over easy egg and Machego cheese. Added a double espresso to test their offering as well as a cup of coffee, black. I took my wife here for Breakfast yesterday because she wanted to go to Camarillo outlet on our way back from Santa Barbara. I was able to find parking right in front of the place. When we walked inside, there were a couple of tables open for us to sit. I got the English Muffin Sandwich and my wife got their Strawberry crepes. It didn't long for our food to come out and when I was putting in our order, I had small talk with the lady servicing us and I told her that we were on our honeymoon. So when she came to give us our food, she sang for us which was appreciated by us. I enjoy my Muffin Sandwich and my wife really loved her Strawberry crepes. Cute little coffee shop.! Has parking right in front of the location. Masks are not mandated so if you prefer not to wear one upon entry it should be okay. Aside from that Staff does get distracted easily where it does take a while for someone to acknowledge you but I guess it's worth the wait, can't complain when you end up with a great cup of coffee! I enjoy coming here for breakfast. I usually get the Croque Monsieur which is excellent, there are few places where this dish can be ordered in the area. My boyfriend got the waffle breakfast. It is nice that there are different waffle toppings available, he got the blueberry and ricotta. The waffle is nice and crispy. Also, the bacon is thick and of higher quality than many breakfast locations. In addition, I ordered a matcha latte which was great. I like mine on the sweeter side so it fits my preference. Love their Lavender Honey Latte! Usually get the Harvest salad with sweet potato that seems to be seasoned with cumin, Baby Kale, Quinoa, roasted Red Bell Peppers, thinly sliced apples, Smoked Gouda and I add shredded chicken. It's so yummy! I've also had the half order of the Avocado Tartine and add bacon, which is delish! My husband and I always share the Kouign Amann which is buttery and quite good! The staff is friendly, and even though it gets crowded, a table always seems to open up before your food is ready. If you haven't tried, it's worth a visit. read more

I have been a huge fan of Cafe Ficelle and was happy to see them open a smaller bakery with much less selection in Camarillo The last three times I visited I have been very disappointed in the breads and pastries. One of my favorite pastries is kouign amann. Theirs was always very good but the last few times it was undercooked and more doughy than flaky. Another favorite has been the pain au raisin. Again these have been a bland underdone yellow instead of the shiny glazed golden brown. Finally, their breads have always been outstanding. The last two loaves I bought were completely tasteless. This cafe is warm and welcoming to all. As a regularly returning customer I can not recommend them enough. This has become a favorite spot for Coffee dates, meetings, friendly gatherings and one of the best remote offices around. The coffee is tasty and all the pastry's are dangerously delicious.
