Thanks fellow Yelpers for guiding me to this gem! Who'd a thunk a liquor store would front such a great sandwich counter?! Popped in for a quick bite, then a treat at Mr. Softee, just down the street before hitting the outlets. I knew Hubs would be keen on just a plain hot dog, which he ordered and enjoyed, but said the bread - THE FRESH BAKED BREAD! - is what really elevated it. He wants to return and get a sandwich on THAT BREAD! lol I hadn't seen any photos of salads on Yelp, but let me clarify they are fresh, delicious, yummy, HUUUUGe and fairly priced! Service does, indeed, seem to be handled by a Mama and a Nona. Be patient, speak clearly. I think I talk really fast when I order, so I got a side of oil & a side of vinegar when I had requested ranch dressing. No biggie, just took it back in and they got me the ranch. Inside has A table and 2 chairs, but was a bit warm, so we took advantage of the patio seating with lots of shade, plenty of room and a fresh sea breeze. Perfect for people watching as well! It's located inside a market , employee was very nice and gave some recommendations, I decided to go with the Sausage sandwich which was pretty good! The stand out here was the bread ! Nona's Italian Deli is an excellent small deli located inside of Cork & Bottle Liquors on Ventura Boulevard in Old Town Camarillo. They make huge, great sandwiches and hot dogs with fresh ingredients at great prices. One thing I really like is every time I make they always ask if I want everything on it or not. Another great thing is since they're inside a liquor store they have a great selection of drinks and snacks to add to your sandwich order. Please note that there are just two small tables inside and five picnic-style tables outside so seating is limited. However, I've never had a problem getting an outside table. And when the weather is nice Nona's is one of my favorite outside dining places. Also please note they're only open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In summary, Nona's Italian Deli is great place for delicious sandwiches and hot dogs. Highly recommended. read more

I'm terribly disappointed with the food here. The bread was awful. The pastrami was extremely bad, perhaps the worst sandwich I've ever had in my whole life and I can only hold myself back so much but I would not eat the food from this place if it were free. My apologies for coming off harsh. I think they need to know this. The only reason I'm giving them one star is because it truly only deserves one star. I think one star is even too much. They were kind. My opinion doesn't matter so much and I would like to think I'd try anything twice. In this instance, I personally would avoid eating here and I think anyone with self respect and compassion for themselves would also. read more

I implore you to look through my Yelp history when reading this review. Know that I very rarely if ever give 1 star reviews. It doesn't bring me joy to give a bad review. I love to eat and I love to celebrate the places that make food for me to eat. You should not visit or eat at Nona's Italian Deli. When entering into the location I was pretty excited. A sandwich spot inside a liquor store? Very cool. I feel like it gave it some street cred that was about to mean these sandwiches were going to be great. The counter looked kind of run down but that's okay. Maybe this place is all about the sandwiches and the counter is just the easel that the works of art are made. I ordered the sandwiches for my group. One Uncle Vito's, a Dennicce, and a Pollo. The lady behind the counter repeated the Uncle Vito's and then asked for my order again. No problem. Gave her the sandwich names again. She asked me to repeat my order again. Okay, everyone has rough days. I repeated the order once more. She started making a sandwich and asked if everything was okay on the sandwiches. I said yes. I will interject with something I have read on other reviews, they do not wear gloves while making the sandwiches here. I am not a fool. Most places that make food in the United States don't have their chefs wearing gloves. If this bothers you because they are making the sandwiches in front of you, just know it will happen here. She made one sandwich the Uncle Vito. She asked again what the other sandwiches I ordered are and I told her. I got my sandwiches prepped and also got some potato salad and left. Let me say without a doubt the Uncle Vito was the worst pastrami sandwich I have ever had and maybe the worst sandwich I have ever had. The meat was super tough and rubbery to the point where I couldn't even eat it. I gagged slightly while trying to swallow a bite or two. I removed some meat and figured that might help. It didn't. Even a single sliver of pastrami was too tough and rubbery to stomach. Without the meat (yes, I figured I would just eat the sandwich without meat) the whole thing tasted like nothing. Not bad, just nothing. Below Kroger brand cold case sandwich level. I tasted the dennicce that my wife had and it also tasted of nothing. The daughter's pollo was fine but once again, maybe Kroger cold case level fine. The potato salad was hard. Like hard to bite through and the flavor was somewhere between nothing and bad. Since none of the taste was offensive I wasn't worried about food poisoning but my stomach hurt a bit after eating here. I would rather eat at Subway than eat here and I think Subway is low tier fast food. read more

SHOCKING that this little place isn't bursting through the seams with people waiting in line to grab a sandwich. Call me impartial but I'm a sucker for super soft breads for sandwiches and this one nails it! The only pitfall is that they don't use a lot of meat in their sandwiches it seems like. I wouldn't mind paying an extra dollar or two for this sandwich if that means getting extra meat! Simple, Italian sandwiches are super underrated! I loved the quality of their sandwiches here. Truly a hidden gem! I'm not kidding! You'd never know it's there because it's a liquor store haha with Nonas Deli off to the right just inside the entrance! Don't the picture of uncle Vito pastrami sandwich fool you. When I sat down to eat there were only 3 small pieces of pastrami in my sandwich and it was not hot. There sign does not say anything about lettuce and tomato's in the sandwich just mustard, onions, and pepperoncinis. Not worth the $11 for a sandwich with 3 small slices of meat. read more

I used to frequent this deli during my lunch breaks with co-workers, and that was over 30 years ago. I remember the deli sandwiches were nicely made and tasted great! 30+ years later, I made my way back into this deli and brought my family. It's still a combination liquor store with a walk up deli. We ordered 3 sandwiches, each made with detail, and not just slapped together. The bread is just as I remembered it. Very soft. I was told they make their own bread. The Nona's sandwich was delicious! They do not skimp on the meat or cheese, and the soft bread along with the seasonings that made the sandwich tasty. The meatball sandwich was a bit dry and could use more sauce. Otherwise, the meatball flavor was good. The Dennice sandwich I think could have used a balsamic type vinaigrette, but the amount of veggies they put into it was good. My daughter loved the soft bread. I would definite come back and try the other sandwiches. I think this place is better than subway and Jimmy John's, and I feel you get a better sandwich for about the same price you'd pay there. I still like Jersey Mikes because of the Mikes Way sauce that just adds so much flavor. I wasn't a fan of the potato and macaroni salad as I thought it had too much mayonnaise. But, that just could be my pallet. The macaroni salad had a green ingredient where the color rubbed on the macaroni and I couldn't figure what that was. The worker's are nice and it's a family run business and think overall they do a great job with the sandwiches. read more

Where do I start? Do I start with the sheer disappointment that comes when new ownership has ruined a CA treasure? Or with the terrible customer experience? Or with the disgust I felt when eating what can only be described as slop? I guess it's everything everywhere all at once. A true confluence of tragedy. The change in ownership means Nona and her recipe's are dead. Too bad. The bread is no longer the bread advertised. The sandwiches have a new bland taste. The customer experience means getting nothing you requested. The ingredients on the sandwich and hot dog were not as described. Missing the pepper spread, and the olives on the sandwich. Combine that with the low quality Parmesan and meats. A true disaster. The chili dog was bland especially with the missing jalapeños. Nona's recipes are long gone now. Avoid this dump and don't waste your time. So sad that new owners ruin these places all the time like this. read more

Nice little convenience store that also has a sandwich spot on the inside. Very much like coming here as well, couple tables outside to sit at. I usually get the Nona, they are bigger sandwiches but still very good. The service is always quick as well and you can count on these sandwiches being solid. I'm always torn between here and another spot, but due to drive time I usually go to the other. But that's not to say this spot loses out, love coming here and when I have time I make sure to stop by. read more

I was really excited to try this place out because of the reviews and an old menu I had seen posted on yelp. I went in and asked if they could do a couple of different sandwiches hot and was told no. I asked why and didn't really get an answer. I'm pregnant and can't have uncooked deli meat so that really limited my options. I ended up getting a hot dog and trying their meatball sub because my husband loves meatball subs and figured I would try part of his. The hot dog is made with the same bread bun as their sandwiches and even though the hot dog itself is large, it's eaten up by all the bread - I tore off more than half the bread while I was eating. The meatball sub was even drowned out by bread sadly, though the marinara is very good and flavorful.  I think of their bread was much thinner -- about half the size it would make a big difference. I was really hoping to discover a new yummy spot in town but sadly won't be going back. read more

It has been almost twenty years since I have had a sandwich here but it is as good as I remember with the same freshly baked bread, generous meat, crisp lettuce and tomatoes, and the perfect sprinkling of parmesan with dressing (light on mayo, mustard, and oil and vinegar). Our favorites are the godmother and godfather, We haven't been able to find as good of a sub sandwich since and look forward to our next visit back! read more

I would recommend taking my review very seriously because I'll be the first to say that I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches but Nona's Italian Deli hits the spot every time and my sandwich-loving husband feels the exact same way. This deli is located in a liquor store and stays busy! Every time I've visited the staff has always been friendly. They are not talkers or extremely welcoming but they definitely treat their customers kindly. We were grateful to the man behind the liquor side of the store for letting us know that we should purchase our drinks at the deli along with our sandwiches to avoid the extra transaction fee that comes with paying with a card. The sandwiches here are large and definitely filling. The bread is perfectly soft and the combinations of the fillings are delicious. My go-to is the Nona without pickles and less mayo, something about hearty Italian cut meats and cheese with olives just makes my tastebuds happy! My husband loves the godmother and godfather. We've tried the mac and potato salad but aren't huge fans because of the amount of mayo in it, but I've seen other customers rave about it in other reviews, so give it a try yourself! Overall a great place to grab some sandwiches for lunch and go to the beach! There are two small tables inside and some tables outside but I would say these are to-go sandwiches. I saw the 4 star review and thought why not try this place. Went in and saw they had Vienna hot dogs. Typically you don't see those around here. So my husband and I decided to get a chili dog. Sounded good. WELL I'm not sure how long those dogs had sat waiting to be sold? Only the very middle of my hot dog was pink all the rest had turned a rubbery brown color. Bad taste and texture. I only had one bite but my husband ate his. He was hungry. That choice was poor, he was soooooo sick last night. Up for over an hour getting it out of himself. I had tossed mine out. Only a bad stomach ache from my bite. No I would NOT recommend this place. Anyone who would sell this old food just to make a few bucks is not trustworthy at all. Please steer clear of Nona's deli. I would not give this place any stars. I would close it down. read more
