Haven't been to a Firehouse sub in years. Restaurant is small, but clean. Service was fast and friendly. They have a neat little hot sauce bar that I need to take advantage of someday. Ordered the steak and cheese sub and it wasn't too bad, I enjoyed it. I would say my one issue is the price. Some of these sandwiches are tipping towards the $20 range. That seems pretty steep for a submarine sandwich. Not sure why the premium price when the food doesn't quite match that.

My favorite sub's name says it all, Turkey, Bacon, Ranch! It doesn't get more American than that folks. That threesome is sure to satisfy, but will definitely leave a dent in the wallet as these sandwiches are not cheap. Though slightly pricier than other chains you're definitely getting a better quality bread at Firehouse. I have yet to get a sub that doesn't have a soft fresh baked roll. The cheese melts atop the turkey, coating the sandwich while the ranch adds some zest. Just writing this review has my mouth watering and now I'm thinking I need another sub for dinner. It is a small place, with limited seating, but I get my sandwiches to-go. The place is decorated in firefighter decor, hence the name. Kids meals get a firefighter helmet, and first responders get a free drink with their sandwich by showing their ID. Overall I recommend this place over any other sandwich chain in Camarillo. That's this critic's review, until next time I'll be eating.

    The difference!

I hate giving poor reviews, but I think it's the only way to get anyone's attention. However, and in the spirit of fairness, it could be just my expectations are set pretty high being used to NY and Chicago deli's. I already know that sandwich joints here on the West Coast have some sort of phobia with meat and are afraid to put more than trace amounts on your sandwich. Unfortunately, they don't have that same phobia when charging you. Knowing this, I always order double meat. Some deli's get it and load you up pretty good, but others don't and leave you wondering if they even got the memo. I don't think Firehouse Subs ever gets that memo. In closing, I paid almost 20 bucks for a sad looking sub that was begging for more meat. Very disappointed!

Their daily sub special for $9.89

This new firehouse sub popped up in this area and I was excited. Coming from Orange County, I was familiar with this first responder friendly restaurant that delicious subs and drinks. The service was as nice as can be, with the cashier being attentive to every detail, including making me aware of promotions such as first responders discount, as well as explaining the menu. This was the redeeming 3 stars for this establishment due to the service. Sadly, the food did not reflect the same enthusiasm as the cashier did. I think I either got the hero's sandwich or the steamer. Regardless, the sandwich was devoid of taste and I dare say, ranks behind subway. It was warm, and rather-- not inviting. It was difficult to finish the sandwich as each bite did not compel me for more bites. I was disappointed as the firehouse subs in Orange County were very tasty. They do have a daily medium sub deal which is posted outside the door on a standing sign. However, after this poor culinary experience, I don't think the daily deal can get me back to try the other sandwiches. :/

I want to start by saying the highlight of this location is definitely the staff. The gals that were working here the day that I came were super nice! The hospitality was there and everyone was kind. One gal took my order at the counter and was engaging, nice. Even once my order was completed the other gal hand walked my to go sandwich over to the table I was sitting at instead of calling it out and having me get up (which would have been totally fine) but the added touch of service was super nice. So for that I'd say please don't change your customer service approach and my expedience with your team was A+. The reason for the lower review is I just didn't find the price point to match the quality of the sandwich and like some of the other three star reviews and lower ones, I just wasn't a huge fan of their sandwiches here. Maybe it's this location, as I've had other decent firehouse subs at other locations. Agreeing with other reviews, the sandwiches here have a weird lukewarm temperature. Kind of unappetizing in nature. I am totally fine with a griddle pressed sandwich or a melt - those are flavor profiles I can understand. But here is a little off somehow. The bread is soft but doesn't get any kind of mark or griddle press with it being a warm sub yet the sauces are kind of over heated which like another said, made the mayonnaise a weird flavor being warmed up. It all just didn't make sense or taste appropriate but at other locations I've gotten the same sub and didn't have that problem. Maybe you are safer sticking to a cold sandwich here but I didn't enjoy mine enough to give it another go anytime soon. Also with so many sandwich companies around I don't find firehouse to be a good value. At $11 a sub I would expect something a little more WOW or even just edible compared to my experience and some others. I'd rather support a mom and pop deli charging $12 a sandwich then a chain who's struggling with execution. At least some people like it here but it wasn't for me. Overall conclusion is that the staff are super friendly and great. The restaurant is newer and very clean and welcoming. However, price point and sandwiches just aren't where I'd like them to be to be a repeat customer.

Really great and affordably priced sandwiches. Even during a busy lunch rush, service was still great and efficient.

Pretty good options! Kids loved it. They even have a "less bread" option. They scrape out the middle of the thick bread.

My Italian sub came warm and with mayo. It really was gross. Soft, not anything like a nice Italian roll

Back then I was younger and on a budget, so I mostly stuck to a few lunch specials and never really explored the rest of the menu. That location has been gone for years, but recently I started going to the Old New York Deli in Camarillo. And now I'm realizing what I've been missing all these years. This is a real, old-school New York Jewish deli and bakery, and I've barely scratched the surface. Let's start with the everything bagels. They're in another class. You really can't compare a good New York-style bagel to something from the grocery store or even most of the bagel shops around here. The chew is different. They're moist, flavorful, and absolutely loaded with everything seasoning. I've been back several times now just to pick up a dozen. I used to think grabbing the double pack of bagels at Costco for six bucks was good enough. Nope. I'm ruined now. These are too good. I'll gladly pay more and actually enjoy the bagel. Then there are the apple turnovers. Astonishing. And the dessert counter is ridiculous. It's overflowing with pastries and desserts, and everything looks like something you want to take home. The staff has also been amazing every time I've been in. And I'm really just getting started. There are blintzes, all the deli classics, and a whole menu I somehow ignored when I was younger. Corned beef and pastrami are very high on my list for the next visit. My only disappointment is realizing I could have been enjoying this place for the last 25 years. I'll be back many, many, times.

Since we were already starving, we pivoted and just ordered drinks and baked goods. The drinks: I got the White Chocolate Mocha and it was delicious, perfectly sweet and smooth. My husband tried the Blended Mocha and said it was just okay (nothing special). The baked goods: The banana slice was really good, moist and flavorful. My husband grabbed the M&M cookie, but it definitely wasn't freshly made. It was still decent, just not amazing. On the plus side, we had no idea this bakery was so close to where we live! We'll definitely be back to give their breakfast and sandwiches a try, just next time we'll come with more patience and more time. Bottom line: Great drinks, good pastries, but factor in a long wait if you're ordering hot food. Worth a second chance for the full menu!

The restaurant itself is fairly small and feels intimate. With so few tables, I think a reservation is a god idea. Ely, our server, came by right away to get our drink orders and answer questions about the menu. With a warm smile, she makes you feel very welcome. The paella is only served on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Three of us decided to share the shrimp tacos ($17). The dish has 3 small soft shell tacos with shrimp and tomato slivers (see photo) and a sauce - delish! Then came the paella ($55). Brought to the table in a hot skillet. Terrific presentation (see photo). Saffron rice covered with a ton of pork, chicken and sausage, a cut open cooked lime, and other goodies. WOW!!! Terrific dish. The menu describes it as feeding 2. We were 3 hungry diners and didn't come close to being able to finish it. My friend, the non-paella eater, ordered the salmon ($30). Huge piece of salmon over a bed of what appeared to be sautéed veggies. Beautiful presentation (sorry, forgot to photo) and he said it was delish. Lovely ambiance, excellent attentive service, outstanding food at reasonable prices. We will be back. Definitely for the meat paella.
