This place seriously sucked. I came in quite awhile ago, so I'm not too sure exactly the details of it. I'm Taiwanese and wanted to show my friends some food from my people, so we chose this place. The interior decor was nice. This lady at the front (looked like the manager) came to talk to us. She was very friendly, but so damn pushy on trying to get me to order more, and expensive dishes. I asked for a veggie recommendation, and she kept trying to get me to order something supposedly good for periods. It wasn't on the menu, and I was too hungover to argue and fake smile, so I just went with it. It turned out to be pretty gross and overly expensive. We also ordered the milkfish, whose Yelp pictures were what attracted us in the first place. The woman kept trying to convince us to order more expensive fish, but bichhh nah. It was alright, a little dry, but was what we remembered to be our favorite of the three dishes we ordered (which is saying something). I got the feeling that she was looking down on us b/c we were poor college students, but no way would I bring my family in, where they could spend more freely on this damn place. The plum juice that came with the check-in tasted exactly like the ones from the bottles. Overall, I'm surprised at how damn pushy this bougie ass woman was (but with a smile on her face so it's pretty subtle), the food was very very okay, and the price was too high. The food and entire experience really disappointed me and my friends. 100% would not come again. There are way better places, and Taiwan is known more for its small, street-food style dishes anyway. read more

The hot and sour soup here is on point. Everything else we ordered was just eh. Really truly mediocre. The milk fish that's on all their yelp photos was really not impressive at all. The kung Pao chicken, stir fried vegetables, smoked chicken, fried oysters, were really not great. I didn't even like the sesame ball dessert. The flavor is on the mid-heavy side, but if we want regular home cooking, we could just stay home and prepare them ourselves. The service was also friendly and nice. The chicken is good quality wild chicken (instead of caged chicken). If you do not know the difference, then there is no point ordering it. This is one of a very few authentic Taiwanese cuisine (non-snack style) restaurants in LA. I think the only other restaurant comparable or better is Bebe Fusion in Alhambra. If this is your first time coming, it may be a little hard to find as it's located in an area that is somewhat dark at night and neighboring mostly residential area. Here are the dishes we order from time to time: * grilled fish * squash * vegetarian kidney with wine and sesame oil * fried noodle with pork or uni * hot and spicy peanut with anchovy * tong-po pork * stirred bamboo slices with pork meat Service is ok. The owner seems to take a lot of pride in his food. I think one time my friend made some so-so comments, he had a poker face. If you want to host a unique banquet, they can come up with a list of dishes that are authentic and hard to find anywhere else in LA. Since husband went up to pay I never saw the check. I was shocked that it was $80 + tip and should have questioned it then but my poor math skills caused me to assume they were right and the food is just outrageously priced. After calculating it when we got home, there is no way what we ordered was $80. He basically short changed us by $15-20. Not cool. Mmm great Taiwanese food here!! Don't come expecting Taiwanese snacks.... but actually legit, Taiwanese "good food." The marinated clams were a great appetizer. We also tried their sesame oil + rice wine + ginger kidneys (sounds kinda gross... but its amazing!!!), some kind of veggies (called dragon whiskers in chinese), hakka style stir fry (mm salty and delicious!!), and black chicken braised soup (omg so hearty and amazing). The portions were really really generous and the service was quick and attentive. We got the eggplant beef dish, which was really good, as well as the fish. The fish is HUGE. Could definitely feed 4 people with another 2 dishes. The steamed fish was delicious though. Good food. Bad service with slow cooking time. Only the owner himself can take the order and you might have to wait long on a busy day. We had a group of 7 people last time, arriving at 6:30pm and was asked if we are able to finish eating before 7 so the next reservation can have their seat. We reply back, well, can u have the food out before 7 at least? If you can,then we can finish on time. I don't understand the arrogance and there are plenty of empty table in the adjacent room. If you desire Taiwanese food (non-deli dinner or banquet style), you should try this place. This is a very popular restaurants for Taiwanese immigrants. It is very crowded and hard to find parking during dinner time. Make sure you go early or order to go. Ask the waiter for suggestion of some unique Taiwanese dishes, sesame oil chicken, pan fried fish, oyster beef with spice, Buddha pot, etc. Small dish like mini-anchovies with fried peanuts is also very good. My friends and I decided to eat dinner at this cafe after a girls' spa day, since it was conveniently located next to Ann Karen Day Spa in Arcadia. The place had plenty of tables and we were seated promptly. We tried to order most vegetarian dishes, as one of my friends is a vegetarian. The dishes we tried were the pea sprouts, the fried tofu, chow fun, and a fried pork chop plate. I think everyone's favorite was the pea sprouts and the fried tofu. decent taiwanese restaurant... best part is that their food is not super greasy like other chinese places. my family and i tried the lamb soup... pretty darn good. we also had some clams with garlic (which was excellent, but half of the clams weren't dead yet so we couldnt eat them...). sea cucumber was also delicious (based on my family's opinion-- i am personally not a big fan). Like everyone else wrote, they really need to change their name. There is nothing "fusion" about the food, it's all classic Taiwanese dishes. It's not Taiwanese junk food like salt-pepper chicken, etc. that you'll find at Sinbala, but real cuisine dishes. However, they almost always have some bulk fruit for sale, located near the counter.
