    Pork chop rice
    Ann C.

If you are craving Taiwanese, fast food, QQ Kitchen is definitely a place to check out. Friendly service and yummy food. We ordered their pork, chop rice, fried fish, rice, and popcorn chicken. I love that they're rice. Dishes includes a green tea or black tea. Prices are definitely reasonable. Check this Mom and Pop place out.

Is been over 12 years since I been here and I keep trying to remember the place and finally found it!!!! Exactly like I remember good food ... Ok service, but it's a mom and pop operation so I understand they were so busy with to go and pickup orders... There isn't a ton of sewing y in there maybe 3 booths for 4 and 4 for 2 people .. Overall exactly what I remember and they have a very large Vegetarian selection on the menu

Been on the lookout for the best Taiwanese pork chop rice in the area and found this spot on Yelp. Looked pretty legit, it's been around for 15+ years from what I heard. I called in my order for pickup and they threw in a free green or red tea, which was a nice bonus. The pork chop rice was solid. Not the best I've had, but still good. The pork chop isn't battered so it's not crispy, but it had good flavor. I liked the meat sauce they drizzle over the rice. The green tea was a bit sweet, but hey it was free. Overall, pretty solid spot. I'd come back if I was craving this kind of pork chop rice again.

I've been on a Taiwanese food binge lately and have been searching everywhere for some good, authentic Taiwanese dishes. This little mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall spot really hit the mark. The food tastes just like what I'd expect from back home or from the night markets in Taiwan. I tried the stinky tofu (a must-have for any true Taiwanese food lover), the pork chop rice, and a few other dishes--and every bite was delicious, flavorful, and comforting. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the seasoning is on point. The owners are super friendly and welcoming, which makes the dining experience feel even more like you're visiting family. The restaurant shares a plaza with other shops, so there's plenty of parking available, which is a big plus. A couple of tips: it's best to bring cash, as not everything is set up for cards. Also, they do have a restroom on site, which is always nice for a small place like this. Overall, this is the kind of spot you want to keep coming back to--and the kind of hidden gem you almost don't want to share so it stays special. Definitely one of my new go-to Taiwanese comfort food spots!

I drove by QQ occasionally and finally had a chance to try its food. I ordered the pork chop rice, which was very tasty. The pork chop was tender and full of flavor. It comes with a free drink (you can choose between an iced green tea or red tea). The shop is a bit small, but the service is attentive. Although I got the food to go, the lady (I believe she is the owner) still kept me updated on my order.

My parents used to take me here all the time 10-15years ago! Their tea jelly is really great and refreshing, and so is their shaved ice for the summer. I made a lunchtime phone order for a pork belly rice with brown rice, and I skipped the free green/black tea bc the worker said they add sugar to it. (If you like sweet, then go ahead and get it! I've just become a grandma who does no sugar these days lol.) Picked it up super fast, and the lady who rang me up was really nice! And ohhhh my god the pork belly fat was rendered SOOOO soft and the meat was so tender ... ugh, so yummy. You know how sometimes you get pork belly and it's a little tough or gelatinous? not the case here at all !! My meal came out to 13.16, solid for a good lunch!

I've been coming here since I was young because they have a mirror vegetarian menu and a lot of authentic Taiwanese homestyle dishes. The price was also super affordable with big portions back then. Since childhood they've gone full vegetarian at the encouragement of the owner's temple then back to only half vegetarian. During COVID, they were only take-out and I am SO happy they have dine-in again! They definitely prefer cash only and it is a small mom and pop with the same staff from years ago. It's nice to see a familiar face. Since an owner change, some recipes were tweaked but overall it's very similar. One of my favorite things to get is the mushroom omelette that is a parallel to the oyster omelette street food. I also really like to get stir fried udon. The vegetarian beef noodle soup is also hard to fine at other vegetarian restaurants and is very flavorful. Shaved ice is only 5 dollars (fyi condensed milk counts as one of the four topping choices). The staff isn't super friendly but they are busy trying to do their job as cashier, help with dishes. There is a station on the side where you can get your own water and extra utensils, plates, cups if needed. No frills just nostalgic, comfort food.

Huge shaved ice with your choice of 4 toppings only $4

Old hole in the wall, no A/C 4 tables but tell me where you can get a 4 item shaved ice for $5 in today's world. Don't expect glamour or great service just 2 aunties and 1 uncle behind the counter.

    Slash ice!

Great yummy place if you're looking for Taiwanese food and slash ice treats! Hidden gem in San Gabriel valley must try!

Is it just me or does anyone else get bothered by cash only places that charge tax? I guess I'm getting more sensitive to the rising cost of food. I mean, you only take cash for obvious benefits and force customers to pay tax because you can mark up the food cost. Asking customers to play by the rules but you're not? If you're only taking cash, shouldn't you not charge tax?! Is it just me? Popcorn chicken 5/10 Honey lemon 8/10 $10 for popcorn chicken in a small Togo container. Not much value here. Chicken was bland. Got some garlic flavor, but very little of anything else. Probably won't be back.

    Iced green tea

This time, I not only ordered my usual but also ordered a stir fried veggie (A-choy). Needless to say, it is very good...just like all the other dishes I tried. The veggie was fresh and crisp, and I like the fact it had lots of garlic. Definitely a good dish, not to mention I met my veggie quota for the day .

The pork chop was very tender but would have liked them to put more meat gravy over the bowl of rice with the combo. But, all food here is legit and if you've not tried Taiwanese food, you should. Your other friend's uncle was the VP to Terry Gou founder of Hon Hai Precision's (the company that makes all the iPhones), your friend's dad was locked up in Taiwan because he was the head of the United Bamboo Triads. Every Taiwanese person in LA and the West Coast probably had a 2 degree of separation with everyone else. And so like the Italians, you needed family restaurants to congregate at, and Aghoo precisely is that type of restaurant where Taiwanese Boomers and their children go sit down and have comfort food. This is a school of cooking that many chefs from Mainland China simply cannot replicate today. And there were only a few restaurants in Los Angeles 30 years ago capable of doing it: Happy Family Garden Pacific Plaza 新園餐館, Dumpling King 老夫子 Hacienda Heights Vons Plaza, Sin Bala 新芭樂 Arcadia, and Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 Arcadia Location One. That being said, I've always wanted to go back to Taiwan and apprentice under an old school chef and learn this school of stir-fry, you know, carry on the torch. In Taiwan, you used to be able to go to a street stall and order 100 different types of stir fry for dirt cheap, and so the chefs that had the grit to do it became masters at stir fry, authentic green onion beef not that fake Mongolian Beef created for the American Audience...although I equally like the American version. So yes, it was a sigh of relief when I discovered Aghoo. One of the remnants of a lost art form in the diverse world of cuisine. It was survival for the Boomer generation to stand next to a wok all day, to support the business and to support the family. Unlike Italian food, you can't premake Lasagna, Meatballs, marinara sauce and just assemble everything last minute with fresh cooked pasta. No, Taiwanese stir fry is bittersweet hard labor....very mechanical in nature, and the chef needs to understand all the inputs. So these days, Jurassic Restaurant has closed, Uncle Yu's 印第安啤酒屋 had shut down. Leaving.....Aghoos? And yes, Eat Joy in Rowland Heights. Come to think about it, if you take out Din Tai Fung from the picture, these are the last of the Mohicans..... I'll end here with my walk down memory lane. You want the Taiwanese version of that Italian style Family sit down restaurant, this is it. This is where you will find all the Taiwanese Aunties and Uncles that probably own 10,000 shares of TSMC, 30,000 shares of NVDA, and Jensen Huang eating quietly in the corner.

Grab a basket of the fried sesame scallion bread and get something saucy to dunk it in. Green Onion Sesame Pie: This prized basket of northern-style flatbread is probably what most people here are waiting for. The fried bread is cut into wedges with a crispy crackling exterior topped with fragrant sesame seeds. Inside, the bread layers are soft, pillowy, and bursting with green onions. Of course, it was the first thing that arrived, so we each voraciously ate a wedge on its own. Fish Filet with Bean Sauce: If you have enough self control, wait until they bring out the fish. The sauce is thick and savory. There's so much flavor from the minced garlic, fermented black beans, and scallions. The silky sauce seem to find a way into all the nooks and crannies of the stellar bread. Fried Red Yeast Pork Belly: The cooking technique of this dish is pretty cool. This is like a crispy char siu. The rich pork belly is marinated in red yeast rice wine for its aromatic flavor. It is coated in tapioca flour and then fried. The edges are crispy and kind of chewy while the meat is juicy and tender. Tofu Skin, Soy Beans, and Mustard Greens: The super thin tofu sheets and soy beans are a Shanghainese classic. With finely chopped mustard greens, the dish is a delightful study of textures: crunchy greens, chewy soy beans, and snappy from the tofu skin. The flavor is neutral and nourishing. Parking: It looks like there are only street parking spots, which there are plenty of. But, they have a lot in the back accessible through the alley by Alessandro Avenue.

SinBala - Arcadia…read more SinBala is one of the rare Taiwanese restaurants that has stood the test of time. I grew up eating here. There used to be several locations across Southern California, and I'm glad the Arcadia location is still here. Every visit brings back memories. I come for the Taiwanese classics that are becoming harder to find. The popcorn chicken is still one of my favorites--crispy, fragrant, and seasoned the way Taiwanese street vendors do it. The Taiwanese meatball soup is comforting, and the Taiwanese sausage always reminds me of night markets back home. What I appreciate most is that SinBala doesn't just serve street food. It brings those familiar flavors into a warm, home-style setting. It's nostalgic without trying too hard. Before you leave, save room for dessert. Their shaved ice is a must. I always recommend the brown sugar shaved ice topped with five mochi or boba. It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending to a meal. Taiwanese food is often overshadowed by other regional Chinese cuisines, but places like SinBala remind me how unique it really is. Simple, comforting, and full of character.
