    Leek pie. Delicious
    James L.

I've known about Yung Ho for many years, as we came here to grab some handheld foods before driving to Vegas. This is my first time dining here for some Taiwanese breakfast items. The inside is small, dated and resembles an eatery from Taiwan; meaning they don't focus too much on decor and ambiance. Where they lack, it's balanced out by the nostalgic comfort food. We went with some familiar items: Chinese donut was fresh, slightly crispy, fluffy and a decent size. Perfect for dipping in sweet soy milk or on its own. Ginger soy milk was surprisingly good. It's a perfect balance, you taste the ginger and the sweetness of the soy milk without one overpowering the other. I'd get it again. But is you order plain sweet soy milk, you'll have to add your own sugar to taste. The beef pan cake (not pancake) had good flavor but the pastry part was a bit dry and hard on the edges. The texture seemed like leftover from the previous day, then reheated. The leek pie was very good. Fresh and flaky shell stuffed with the right amount of leek. I also got a giant almond cookie before leaving. It was a bit dry and crumbly. They're displayed by the counter near the entrance. Besides serving simple breakfast items, Yung Ho also have lunch items like rice and noodles. The people here are friendly with a warm smile, and it has that family owned small business vibe. We will definitely be back. The parking lot is small and shared with a few other businesses, but I never had problems finding a spot. Side note: Yung Ho located next to Arcadia Donut, another family owned small business that I like to support, and who happened to be survivors of the Monterey Park mass shooting.

XLB... very X (Xiao-- the X in XLB) or small and not juicy which is just fine for my seven year old

This is my new go to spot for traditional Taiwanese (Chinese) breakfast. Four Sea(s) AKA Sihai is good but I prefer the atmosphere here at YungHo as it has better seating, more extensive menu, and not to mention way better service. As always I like to start with the great history of this place. Even if this particular restaurant doesn't have direct lineage to the original brand YungHo, its menu and main dish reflect the founding and philosophy of YungHo. YungHo was founded in 1955 by a retired Chinese soldier from ShanDong. Its original location is at one end of the bridge at the cusp of YungHo District in what was once Taipei County (now New Taipei City). Its exclamation point in establishing its prominence in food excellence was when Madame Chiang visited the place since she was a food enthusiast. Back to present times, this YungHo may not be spot on with all the original flavors but the main items of soybean milk and Chinese donut (YouTiao) are solid. The hardest dish to master is the rice roll (FanTuan) and they came through with that as well. Last but not least I cannot leave out my younger son's favorite, Xiaolongbao (XLB) or steamed buns. This is definitely not a YungHo dish but it's a popular item here. Don't expect them to be the juicy XLB at DTF because they are not exactly juicy. Rather they are homemade and still quite tasty without the juice. So be aware if you like lots of juice in your XLB. Until next time I see you, YungHo. Of course I cannot wait to visit the original location in YungHo, soon!!

What is this??? 3 pieces of lamp for an $18 dish? Makes me sad to see this place. Try harder.

Wow, I missed this place when I moved to the East Coast. There's a bunch of poser Taiwanese fusion breakfast spots in NYC, and they're overpriced and subpar. There's no line here on a weekend morning for brunch. Meanwhile, in East village, you'll have to wait like 3 hours for Ho Foods, and their food is twice as expensive and a fourth the quality. The fried dough here is fluffy on the inside and cripsy on the outside. I don't have to order a set menu. My favorites are the egg pancakes. Probably each dish is under $7. The service is no frills and quick. If you order the normal soy milk with not the "salty" version( that one has tofu chunks and sesame oil, etc. to make it savory), then you control your diabetes level. There's a sugar glass on the side and you can pour as much as you want?!?!

Food is great as always. Now they offer mobile ordering with QR code. So nice. I will use it next time.

Made to order, extremely fast Taiwanese street food style service, with classics like gua bao, meat balls, vege buns, and hot soy milk

Was craving Taiwanese breakfast and decided to check this spot out for the first time. The menu is quite extensive! I got a number of dishes including shao bing (plain and with egg), you tiao, soy milk, scallion pancakes with egg, beef rolls, beef noodle soup, xiao long bao, and stinky tofu. Overall the food didn't taste fresh. The shao bing was more tough than crispy. The XLB was not juicy at all and the skin was thick and a bit dry. One item that was made well was the radish omelet, which had a good texture and taste. The staff was friendly. The restaurant is in a small plaza with easy parking.

    Egg pancake with Chinese donut

I was born and raised in Taiwan!! Growing up with traditional Taiwanese breakfast and this restaurant warms my heart with their food-- the taste of home. The parking situation is quite easy and there's always no issue to find a spot on weekdays and weekends. They accept cash and card and I usually place phone orders and pick up, it's quite convenient. No outdoor seating only dine-in. ⁣ ⁣ Here I present my favorite Taiwanese breakfast item- Egg Pancake stuffed with Chinese Donut (You Tia)!!! The outside is crunchy with a slight savory flavor, inside is the freshly deep fried dough, nice a warm and very crispy. Every bite is full of flavors and layers of texture. ⁣ ⁣ If you are hesitant about trying Taiwanese breakfast, this is the place to fulfill your appetite and cheer up your tastebuds.

You tiao. So light and crispy!!!!
    Helen F.

Sometimes you're just in the mood for some taiwanese breakfast, soy bean milk, fried you tiao, so thats what i came for. When i sat done i heard the man from another table talk about the you tiao and i asked him, "is it not good here? Then i'll order something else" he replied "no it's the best here! Light and crispy not so doughy.." he was right!! Soy milk was super flavorful and not watered down. The you tiao was probably the best that i've had in a long while. I ordered the meat stew soup and man! Packed with flavor! Fantuans were so good too! To be honest, i was really full by the time i got to the turnip cake. Reheated later it was really good too! I ordered alot, so i had alot of leftovers to pack (on purpose) .. i think they thought i didnt like their food. It hit the spot and brought back memories when my mom took me to yung ho in taiwan...

    Vegetarian rice roll with egg
    Judy T.

As a vegetarian, I was happy that they had vegetarian options. We got a rice roll with egg, salty soy milk, and a vegetarian fried rice cake. It was all very delicious. I liked that they added seaweed for a little more umami. Staff was friendly and not overly attentive. The flavors weren't too salty either. Pricing was decent for what we ordered. I would definitely go back. for some comforting Taiwanese breakfast.

Glad I found a new Taiwanese breakfast joint nearby our home! I've always gone to Si Hai in San Gabriel and Yi Mei in Monrovia in the past but I recently tried Yung Ho and the quality is pretty much the same among these restaurants. But I think Yung Ho is less expensive than Yi Mei. They are still operating as takeout only, no dine in, as of June 2021. Their indoor dining space inside is pretty small so I don't know if I would feel comfortable dining there yet even if it was open. Every time I pass by the restaurant, there is always a line of at least 3-4 people outside waiting. Their fan tuan (rice roll) portion is huge! Good value for the price. While I was waiting, I could see each party ordering a few of these rice rolls. The pan fried radish cake was okay. If you order it, it taste better if you order it with egg. Their sweet tofu soup was good. It's already lightly pre-sweetened with the ginger sauce.

The lady at the cashier was so sweet and friendly. She patiently introduced me to their menu and food, made recommendations. I'm very pleased by her customer service. It is a small to medium restaurant, nice and clean throughout. Very welcoming like a family restaurant. It was a to-go order and they packed the food pretty well so the noodles don't get soggy. But I ordered the pork intestine noodle soup because I don't see this on many menus. The flavor was average -- tastes familiar, but not something I would go out of my way for. The soup was weirdly lumpy -- I know it's supposed to be thickened with a corn starch slurry, but this was lumpy like someone didn't properly dissolve the starch in the slurry before adding it to the soup. Didn't really affect the taste but was not as smooth as I would've expected. I also ordered a side of braised kelp, which was ok but a bit sweeter than I like it. The staff was friendly and they were playing a Taiwanese song from 1989 that I heard when I was young, which adds to the nostalgia. It's not the best Taiwanese food I've had in LA but I'll probably come back to try their beef noodle soup. You know, for science.

I ordered the pork chop rice and the pork chop had a great crispy exterior and was very juicy as well. The dish came with sauteed cabbage, half a tea egg, sauteed corn/peas/carrot mix and a bean curd. Portion was large and I was able to eat half for another meal! My friend got the chicken chop rice and the portion was even bigger than the pork chop rice! I will come back to try that one. Our group also ordered the popcorn chicken and that was juicy as well.
