First time here since Jose's closed - very disappointing - keyword: flavorless Fried yuca flavorless, mojo bland. Tostones were made from yellow plantains, not green - small, flavorless bits with bland mojo Traditional cuban and Lechon con Pan were nowhere near what Jose's served - all bread, dry, no character whatsover - had to check that the lechon was not chicken. Just enjoyed a very nice dinner at Café Havana at their new location 8799 Cortez Road. Formerly Jose's. I knew Jose for over 13 years as a friend and also selling him fresh fish from time to time. "May he rest in peace" On our arrival we were greeted by the new owner, a very nice soft spoken gentleman. The interior of the facility has been completely gutted and done over very nicely. Hopefully all of Jose's unwanted pests have been finally evicted. He showed me the kitchen which was spotless and full of new commercial equipment. Now to the meal. I ordered the fresh roast pork, unlike Jose's the pork was sliced. Very good and fresh. I had the congri "Rice & Beans" very tasteful but dry to my palate. I asked for more black beans and they delivered them in seconds. Also had a side order of yucca & plantains again very good. My wife ordered Chicken fajitas which was delivered smoking hot by the owner. They were very good and you could tell everything was fresh. Last put no least my daughter ordered the Cuban sandwich which was also very good and extremely large. The menu has 10 time the variety as the former establishment. The only thing that needs attention is the exterior of the building which I would think is the landlords responsibility. So Bradenton folks lets give this new owner a hand of applause and head over and try his taste of Cuba. read more

This clean, quiet place is a favorite of many different kinds of people, ranging from cable and telephone guys to high-ranking local politicians and newspaper people like myself. I have a special love for the meat-filled pastries they call empanadas, and here they are superb - I like to have a meal of two or three, at $2.50 each. I usually accompany them with a small bowl of black beans and rice liberally sprinkled with onions they provide separately and with Cuban toast to dip. But when it comes to a great, simple meal like chicken and rice - the good basic stuff - they cannot be beat either on quality or price. This is a lovely place with very warm, caring service, and my only regret is that it closes at 9pm, because there are many nights I would have liked to stop by for a later snack. As far as personal safety, there's often Manatee County Sheriff's officers eating there, and I have never seen any problem people at all anywhere nearby. read more

The food here is really good. There are not many Cuban restaurants in the Bradenton area. It is sad however that I will not be returning. I ordered a Cuban steak sandwich and was charged 0.60 cents for adding a dab of mayo, 0.60 cents additional for a dab of mustard, 0.60 lettuce and 0.60 tomato. Really? $2.40 extra for putting a bit of mayo, mustard, a bit of tomato and lettuce on a 5.99 sandwich? Its not that I cant afford the extra 2.40, its that I think its a rip off. I just stopped there today and it was terrible. I ordered a cuban, a stuffed potato and a deviled crab. The cuban did not have real roasted cuban pork, there was hardly any meat on it. The stuffed potato tasted like instant potatoes. I love Cuban food and I usually go to Tampa to Brocatto's, they are the best in the business for Cuban food. First time at Havana's. My wife and I had a simple Cuban Sandwich. It was least than expected. It contained about 1 once of very poor quality ham, 1 ounce of par boiled Pork, 1/2 ounce of Swiss Cheese, placed on a very old ,/ frozen bread which tasted old . No pickles or Mustard which is the kick of a true Cuban Sandwich. Very poor, inedible, I would not serve it. We saw some food being brought out in front of us ok which floated in a pool of grease. I am a natural born Cuban and Chef , and I was really disappointed with this establishment. He is very far from being Cuban Food . He should close this place down rather than mis representing the true Cuban Heritage. No good!!!! read more
